Really nice waiting staff, happy to recommend dishes (their recommendations were the best things we ordered, the Szechuan dumplings and prawn and bamboo croquettes were particularly good). Food was overall good, with half price on Monday to Wednesday, making it excellent value for money. When we went the restaurant was a little busy with a great atmosphere.I would definitely come back here again.

From the looks of the exterior of the restaurant, we weren't sure if this was going to be a dreadful experience, or a first-rate one. Surprise! It was the latter. The ambiance reminded me of an experience in a Kowloon restaurant: dim and dusty. Utterly thrilling, I might add. The food? Awesome. Every one of our five dishes was exceptionally good! Tasty, crispy when it should be, just the right temperature, a fine mixture of flavours. Vegetables done perfectly. Sauces complimented each other. What to add? I'd return in a heartbeat. (The second surprise was the modern, clean washrooms. Most unusual in Chinese restaurants as a genre.) I am so glad that the alleys at Camden Town were so packed that it was impossible for us to eat at the street stalls!

Went there with 14 of us and booked the karaoke room for the whole evening with a minimum spend of £300. The bill came to around £30 each, and that was with dinner and drinks (lots of beers, some cocktails etc.) for the whole evening. Very good deal considered that the room was free with the minimum spend. The waiter was attentive and was in and out serving us and taking orders the whole evening. The food taste fine, just like any other dim sums in other Chinese restaurants. Will definitely come back again next time for another karaoke evening.

This place was a bit run down. The food was okay, but honestly, I'm pretty sure some of it was frozen. You know how you can buy packaged dumplings in Asian supermarkets? Portion sizes were so small too compared to many Chinese restaurants I have been to. We were kindly greeted by the waiter and service was find. They seemed to have a problem with me when I went up to pay the bill. They said they will bring it over, but I said I wanted to pay it at the bar so that my mother didn't know I was paying. They slagged me off in Chinese and gave each other a look. I dont live close, but if I did this would be the past place I would visit. They have notices EVERYWHERE, on every wall about thieves. It's so scary for people who are visiting the area. I understand that Camden is a place for pick pockets, but having these notices displayed on every wall, with about 2 on each wall makes the restaurant seem untrustworthy. Total meal came to £30ish with service charge already on the bill.

We went on a Monday so all dim sum was 50% off, and to be honest I would pay full price. The steamed buns were so good, everything else was nice but they were the highlight. Service was good to start but got worse as it got busier. Asked 3 people for the bill but had to get up and hang around the till after waiting too long. Wasn't too big a problem as I think it was just because they were so busy. Worth it for the food!

I've been to Yum Cha several times, too many to count, but so many times that I now understand that the food quality varies. Mostly, the dim sum is authentic and tasty. Unlike a lot of other dim sum restaurants, Yum Cha's flavours are fresh and served attractively and with flair. Ok, the po-faced staff can be construed as grumpy, but if you're not offended easily, you'll realise they're just busy and don't feel their customers need to be reassured constantly with a smile or even to check on you. I don't mind, personally. I like to get on with eating the tasty treats! As I said, it varies. We also order other dishes other than dim sum. Sometimes it's tender and delicious, other times it's dry. I go out of my way to get there because when it's good, it's very, very good. And when it's not so very good, it's on par with most other Chinese takeaways. So not too bad. I recommend it, especially the steamed pork buns!

I used to visit the place regularly. The dim sum were really good and especially when going on a half price night, it was really good value for money. Even though the staff seemed to recognise us, since we were regulars, they wouldn't even make the simple effort to smile. Further we were often rushed through the meal on busy nights (either Saturday nights, or half price off nights, on the other nights the place is pretty empty). The owner is pretty unfriendly too. We now decided, after being so fed up with the slow and unfriendly service, not to go back anymore.Definitely recommend the place for the food, but not for the servic.

I was very disappointed by the dim sum at Yum Cha. The service was very abrupt when I arrived and it didn't really seem that my custom was valued. The menu was pretty standard with a few nice additions like a spicy cucumber salad. When the food came it wasnt that hot and the quality was below par too; cheung fun were bland and their sauce lacking in any real flavour. The pork buns were too small and light on meat. Sticky rice parcels were fine but again a little on the small side. I really enjoyed the cold spicy cucumber though it's got to be said. I doubt I'll return sadly

The worst dim sum I have ever tasted, I came deliberately for this dish but it tasted horrific: prawns were smelly and outdated- imposible to eat. Other dim sums had ingrediants, which were not in the describtion of the dish. I had to return everything back after trying a bite ( apart from Jasmine tea) but NOTHING was taken from the bill. When I tried to negotiate to take something off waters rudely spoken to me and sent the сook ( who, I suppose, was a manager as well) and he laughing at me explained that he does ot care what I think of the food and if I had it or not, I will have to pay for everything. So I have left the place hungry and very disappointed, never have I experience such a poor service and terrible food.

I first came here a couple of years ago for a meal with family and friends and was very pleasantly surprised. I have been back a couple of times since, and most recently last month before a gig at the Roundhouse.Having grown up in Camden I know how hit and miss it's restaurants can be, and how little consistency there can be even with the better ones. For me Yum Cha is a definite exception to this rule as I have genuinely never had a bad meal here. It's not the fanciest place, or food, or indeed service, but it is tasty, well cooked and varied. The prices are reasonable and Monday to Wednesday they also offer half price dim sum which almost makes it a steal. The best thing though for me is the atmosphere. The clientele they get is incredibly varied (even for London) which makes for good people watching, and thanks to the slightly tighter (what estate agents would call cozy) table layout to the place there is a wonderful buzz even when it is not completely full.

So we went here on a Thursday night for dim sum because that was the only time of week that all 13 of us were free so we missed out on the half price dim sum on monday-wednesday.The dim sum is of an average quality, not particularly fancy nor spectacular. The prawn toast was okay, but it was so small - I'm not joking, its like a single slice of bread chopped into 4 small teeny rectangles and that was £4. The food came out quite fast surprisingly, which is quite worrying because dim sum usually takes a while to steam through and we ordered about 25 different dim sum dishes. The dim sum certainly isn't fresh, otherwise it'll take much longer for the food to be bought to the table. The staff are very very rude, especially because there was a large group of us and it took a while for us to settle down and decide who has what and if we would share etc. We eventually gave them a hankerchief with all the numbers on (from the menu) with our full order. Even asking for the toilet resulted in a pointing gesture, no smile, no comments, just a rude point downstairs. I think that's unacceptable! All they had to say was "its downstairs". The waitresses doesn't do anything, all of them didn't say hi how can I help you or anything, it's like as if they can't speak!!!!For comparison's sake, the cheapest dim sum is around £4 on the evening menu, whereas the cheapest dim sum is £2.60 in chinatown (leicester square area), my advice is to go to chinatown!!!! I suppose they charge higher rates because theres not many restaurants that do dim sum for dinner as traditionally its a midday-afternoon thing to eat dim sum...

Not the best chinese food I have tasted, dimsums were pretty okay, but rest of the food, especially starters were below average, like something that has come out of a freezer. Some of the most beautiful dim sum I have ever had. Take a few visits to decide exactly which dishes are your favourites. But then you will be hooked! It's simply lovely, I would recommend the Gyoza , squid, dumplings, lady fingers and soups. All of which are the best I have had. They will even give you a take out order while you eat so you have lunch for tomorrow ....genius! My only wish is that it wasn't so fast food orientated. I would love some more intimate service here, having said that they are always pleasant, consistantly accommodating and the restaurant itself is lovely and charming, and perfectly located just away from the busy centre of Camden high street. It should be written by a Chinese, or at the very least Asian. Anyway, once upon a time, i was wandering Camden market and wanted to Yum cha, we me and my wife came across this little place. We glanced the reviews both here and other reputable website, as well as seeing the amount of stickers of rewards or recommendation, i guess it won't be too bad.How wrong was IWe ordered a few things, all dim sum, because we were here for dim sum.In terms of steamed food, we ordered prawn dumping (蝦餃), pork dumpling (燒賣) and beef balls (山竹牛肉)And we've also ordered fried won ton (炸雲吞), char siu puff pastry (叉燒酥) and gluttonous pork dumpling. (鹹水角)(I threw away the recipe, they are probably translated differently)Never in my life have I had prawn dumpling that's so watery and the prawn is still packed in a tiny ball, much like frozen food straight out of the freezer and not cooked thoroughly at all. (In case you wonder, a lot of Chinese restaurant with similar price range make their own dim sum)Pork dumpling, the outer layer just slips out of as soon as you pick it up with chopsticks. Thats just plain weird... the taste is rather bland, Beef ball was alright, but tasteless, as in, no taste at all. The reason is because it is usually served with Worcester sauce, but of course they don't have any.The fried won ton had the wrong sauce, and when it was served, half the sauce was split all over the plate already. And the won ton is so small is like eating miniature food, as if dim sum is not bite-size enough already. The other two stuff was average at best.Other comments include waiter being rather incompetent, half the time she doesn't know what we are doing, and her manager don't seem to care at all. Also a Thai statue in the middle of a room, in a place serving Chinese food just don't make sense. To be fair, it should have been one of the very first clue I picked up.I mean fair enough if you are called Asian cuisine or something, but clearly you are called Yum Cha...The other clue I've picked up (or should have) is the fact they also do local delivery. I mean take away is usually fine in a restaurant, but doing delivery and phone order kind of takes the focus away from the restaurant, or just shows they are not that popular and is trying to find other source of revenue. All in all, that's my review. I wouldn't recommend anyone going there, but if you do end up there, all the best to you.Do go to a few other similar places, possibly in China town, to compare, and see though.

The dim sums are very fresh, delicious, of very very good quality and reasonable priced in this unpretentious restaurant in North London, next to Camden Town's stables market on Chalk Farm Road. I have eaten here six times now (it is one of my local Chinese restaurant) and have always enjoyed my food which is always fresh. It feels as though they make their own stuff, rather than using supermarket readymade dim sums. Absolute musts have are the slightly spicy Szechuan minced pork and peanut dumpling, the Chinese prawn and chive dumpling and a steamed dumpling which has some succulent sauce inside called the Shumai (recommended to leave resting for about five minutes for it to cool down and then put the whole thing in your mouth. The explosion of flavours is just superb). The service is quick and efficient. The waiters and waitresses are lovely people but are a bit reserve. I assume most of them are students.

This restaurant is located in North London (Camden - opposite the Stables Market) and I live in South East London, however, I travel to Yum Cha (braving the hour long journey as well as the Blackwall Tunnell and all of the congestion that goes with it) as often as possible (2-3 times a month) because I love the food so much. I am a British born Chinese, so I am therefore very picky with my dim sum and I have visited many Chinese restaurants in London (as well as near enough all of the restaurants in China Town) that serve dim sum and Yum Cha is still my number one restaurant. The quality of the food is of a very high standard and it is especially value for money when we go between Mondays and Wednesdays (I think from 5pm onwards) because the dim sum is half price!!! We always leave the restaurant feeling satisfied and happy. It is such a shame that we don't live closer otherwise I think I would visit them every other day if not everyday. The service is the same as I would expect from any other Chinese restaurant however the waiters/waitresses are efficient. The restroom facilities also needs improving but to be honest this is typical in most Chinese restaurants that I have visited. As well as a variety of speciality teas, they also do a few cocktails (& mocktails) which I love! On some occasions they are not able to make certain cocktails, blaming ingredients shortage... However, generally they are pretty good and are accommodating. I have frequented the restaurant with a couple of disabled friends and the staff have been very helpful (they also have a disabled toilet accessible from the restaurant floor, whereas their normal toilets are located downstairs). Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant for the great food and drinks.

The dim sum was very good. All of dishes were enjoyable except the one that came luke warm and felt like perhaps it had been frozen. The prices are already very reasonable and then when you factor in the 50% off offer after 5pm Monday to Wednesdays it is practically a giveaway. This place offers exceptionally good value for money and the atmosphere was very much vibrant when I visited on a Wednesday evening. the bill for 4 with drinks and service came to £53 and we rolled out of there fully stuffed.

previous posters have commented that the dim sum is great but the service can be a little off. This was not the case, however, in our experience. Though we visited on one of the half price dim sum nights and the place was packed, the service was without fault and the food arrived quickly.Several dishes stood out, but the steamed lamb dim sum and the prawn and scallop dim sum were brilliant. The quality of the food even encouraged us to try the chicken feet, which wasnt too bad. I will never get how that is a delicacy, but I would urge anyone to give it a go..Definitely worth checking out!

We went to Yum Cha in Camden on Saturday 26th Jan. We were wandering aimlessly and just came across it. What a great find for us! Lovely food and service. Would recommend Honey roast pork buns, pork and prawn shamai and the stewed beef noodle soup in particular.

Yum Cha is more of a value-for-money restaurant than a great experience per se.I have just been there with a friend this past Sunday, and as I remembered, their dim sums were very good. However the atmosphere was not fantastic, and the waitress that greeted us was quite rude, despite the fact that she could not speak much English. The service was also slow-ish, although they were not that busy at 7:30 in the evening.I would recommend this only if you happen to be shopping in Camden on a week day and get suddenly hungry. According to their website, they have a 50% off on dim sums, Monday through Wednesday (5:30pm-10:30pm).

Went there today with my other half fancying some dim sum without traipsing into town. Excellent selection of dim sum without breaking the bank, the Siu Long Baos are probably the best I've had outside of Hong Kong. Definitely will go back again!

We tried Silks and Spice Yum Cha while visiting Camden Markets. We ordered 11 dishes (for 3 people, may be considered excessive) including the mandarin ribs (oh my god!) chickens feet (had to do it), a variety of dumplings, the essential pork buns, rice paper rolls, custard buns and more. We all love our feed, it was a first for my partner and his brother and they were so glad I took them to yum cha, it was a great first experience for them. Although there weren't any trolleys being pushed around so it wasn't exactly traditional dim sum, it was delicious all the same. The food tasted fresh, was well prepared and the accompanying sauces were really nice as well. The staff were quiet but helpful, marking off our dishes as they came out and letting us know how many we had left.Great restaurant, well priced (especially mon-wed between 5.30pm it's half price), would definitely go again.

We've always wanted to try Yum Cha following good reviews in the past, but before we went last week for lunch, we saw some recent reviews which did not seem good and were a bit apprehensive. We had nothing to worry about, because the food was amazing. All the dim sum were flavourful. In particular the scallop and prawn dumplings - you could really taste the scallop, which was fresh and not watery and bland like many places. The prawn croquette was so light and crispy, beef cheung fun was melt in the mouth. The only dish that we will not order again is the Thai veg spring rolls, although nice, it was just ordinary veg spring roll with a sweet chilli dip, will go for the Vietnamese one instead. The service was friendly as well. So glad we did try it and we will definately go again when we are in London.

Saw some good review about this restaurant and my husband and I decided to give this restaurant a try while visiting Camden Market. We ordered some of their Dim Sum. The Squid cake is good but the taste of other Dim Sum is kinda bland.

The last time we ate here we got a little table outside which is great for people watching during the week as camden is full of interesting people. The service was very slow but they were super busy as it was dinner time. They do a good dim sum offer during the week but none of the food is very tasy

Delivered our food to random punters in a pub and didn't bother to phone us when they couldn't find our address. We're starving we've been waiting an hour and a half for food.

Maybe best value in London, it is simple restaurant but if all you look for is a good and cheap platter of dim sum near camden, this is the place to go!

We made reservations for lunch on a Saturday at 12. We were the first customers to the restaurant. We were looking for good, but cheap dim sum and we certainly found it. We tried a few dumpings, with the chive dumplings being the highlight. We also had some of the custard filled buns. The pork and prawn shumai were quite nice as well. I ordered a cheung fun with pork thinking it was a bun, but it was still tasty! The wait staff was nice enough and the jasmine tea was quite good. I literally burned the top of my mouth off, but that was my own fault. I would certainly visit again. It was well worth it. £20 for 6 dishes and tea. Not bad at all!

Went to Yum Cha on a Saturday evening, was surprisingly quiet but were really impressed. Staff were helpful and advised us on what was good to order. Food arrived quickly and was really lovely - good choice of dishes on the menu, all cooked really well and reasonably priced. Overall very impressed as was our first experience of Dim Sum and would definitely go again!

My sister and I stumbled upon this restaurant on Wednesday night, which is dimsum night (50% off on dimsum!). Great authentic Chinese food, speedy service, brilliant atmosphere, great value for money. Some people are saying the staff are rude - this is not what we have experienced. They were polite and friendly, the front of house can indeed be abrupt but maybe that;s just his normal demeanor and it didnt put us off at all. I'd recommend this restaurant!

I have eaten here on a number of occasions because the dim sum is such great value (especially so on Mondays-Wednesdays when it is half price). You can stuff yourself for £15, or be more restrained for £6-10. The only downside is the service which can be very rude and abrubt - not always, but enough to make me think twice. The food always wins out for me though, and I return to let them get away with it once again...

I go to this restaurant regularly for 50% off Dim Sum, Monday - Wednesday. It's always packed full of people tucking in to steaming plates of Dim Sum. Much more authentic and reasonably priced rather than places like Ping Pong. Service is good, quick, although sometimes a little 'short' with you (no big deal though, that's normal). Booking advised!

Having spent many years in Hong Kong and Singapore, we came here foellowing the reviews in TA - were a little put off by the outside but were pleased to see the restaurant was busy on a Tuesday lunchtime and we had an absolutely fantastic meal and service - menu was great and dim sum glorious !

They do amazing 50% off for all dim sum on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Dim sums were up and down, prawn dumplings and sesame prawn rolls were heavenly good, but Shanghai dumplings (that's my favorite) were a bit disappointing. Service and atmosphere in early evening were fine. We'll go back.

Went here on a Saturday lunchtime just across the road from Camden Market. The restaurant was virtually empty but one or two more customer's arrived during the course of our meal. We were treated to a superb dim sum lunch. We had prawn and minced squid sesame rolls, char siu buns (very good), scallop and prawn dumplings, steamed chinese broccoli, dough stick cheung fun and shanghai dumplings washed down with a pot of jasmine tea. Service was pleasant if unenthusiastic and the restaurant is nothing specail to look at but who cares with nosh like this. The bill for two an astonishing £19..no complaints!

I'm a great fan of dim sum and have frequented most of the Chinatown haunts, but this place beats them all.The restaurant is nothing to look at, inside or out, but the dim sum is outstanding, from the char siu cheng fung to the Shanghai dumplings, nothing can be faulted. The Schezuan dumplings are seven little morsels of total delight in a heavy chilli, spring onion and soy sauce. Wonderful! The classics are all done well.In two visits I never ventured onto the main menu, which is largely Singoporean, but noticed many happy, smiling faces all around. And best of all, it's very, very cheap...

Went here on a Saturday night to try and experience some authentic Dim Sum. The place was busy, the service quick (though had to ask repeatedly for extra sauce), but sadly the food was awful. The squid was very chewy. the ribs overly fatty, the nasi goreng tasted of washing up liquid and the pork shubai was full of gristle. Left feeling sick rather than sated.

Excellent food, all dishes had distinct flavors but with a light touch and presentation was simple and unfussy, it felt like Michelin star quality food in a small neighborhood restaurant. The decor is equally simple but has flair. The service was prompt and efficient. Highly recommended on every level.
