Yum Bowl in Islington

I had a chicken bahn mi from their whitecross street stall which was very nice, filling and not heavy. 8 pounds is an appropriate price for a filling meal that has plenty of meat and vegetables. The stall was clean and service was super fast.

Absolutely amazing, undoubtly one of the best Vietnamese Street food I ever had. All of their menu items are a must try, my favourites being Char Sui Pork and Honey Grilled Chicken.

Rude guy shouting for no reason being racist towards people

I got the honey chicken banh mi and it wasn’t great. Every piece chicken was fatty and it wasn’t great having to individually pick each bit of chicken out of the baguette to take the fat off. I wouldn’t return.

Good food but poor service. Staff did not seem friendly. I asked about a specific dumpling and immediately after responding to me they started talking in a foreign language including the word “dumpling”. While they might not have talked about me, it seemed rude to chat with colleague while serving a customer.

Best pho I’ve had in London! Tiny store but a must visit

On Whitecross Street Market during lunch time there is a pop up store open far south of the road. Here you can choose between a limited option of rice or egg noodles as a base, then a choice between soft pork, crispy pork, honey chicken and a fourth option. Regular Bowl size costs £7.50 and Large Bowl is £8.50. Moreover you can also upgrade for extra rice / noodles. Process: chose between the two sizes and your base, pay at the till, around the corner tell the chef which meats you want and collect your order. Cutlery available. Believe the regular comes with two meat options and the large three(?) but I think I missed out on a third meat option because no one corrected me when I collected. Very sad if this is the case... Note, I haven't yet been to the actual store located north of the road. But presume this is the same restaurant by the name.

Got the vegan hue noodles, which unfortunately were quite bland and tasteless. I believe that making vegan pho noodles are a toss up, but I would probably skip on this. Otherwise, I’ve heard great reviews for everything else! It might just be the vegan stuff that isn’t very well tasting.

Noodles are soooo addictive!!! All the options; crispy pork, soft pork and honey chicken are so good. Comes with a real range of veg, fresh chillis and coriander for a balanced diet :) Only £7.50 for regular and £8.50 for large

This place is the most amazing place in London, I have been to this establishment at least twice a week for the past few months. The flavours are absolutely exquisite and even if you are just a tourist you must come and try this place.

I come everyday for the honey grilled chicken! Fantastic place

Went to the stand in whitecross market and ordered the crispy pork with rice! Got none of the salad/veg with it and got a very small portion. When I asked where it was, they said it was the end of the day. Understandable but would perhaps be better to charge a reduced price if you are going to serve half portions.

Food was amazing and authentic. I order a beef Pho and veggie rice bowl and they are both delicious. It reminded me of Vietnam trip last year and excellent food back there. The team was very friendly with outstanding service. The guy wearing glasses who took order served me with a nice smile and detailed explanation about the menu. The girl pouring soup advised me very carefully about the chilly and kindly helped me to take out the corriander even though it was my fault not to tell them in advance. Cashier was very charming and gentle. He helped me bring the food to the table and offered a spring roll on the house as they forgot about my veggie rice bowl and I had to wait for a bit. Queue was long but moving fast. Definitely will come back more regularly to try out all their menu.

The best beef PHO and BUN BO HUE (spicy Hue soup) in London ever. The food was exceptional and the service was excellent. All of us thoroughly enjoyed it and there wasn’t a single complaint. We will make sure we plan our next “do” there again.

Brilliant Vietnamese restaurant with great traditional dishes on the menu. Very popular lunch place, always a queue! I’ve been a few times now and had the bún chả nem and bún bò Huế and both get a big thumbs up from me. The flavouring is on point! Recommend this place if you want authentic Vietnamese food. They have a store and also run a market stall during lunch time along the road, don’t miss out! My favourite is the bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) especially during the colder months, warms up my soul.

Delicious food at very reasonable price enjoy every time

What a find! I used to go to their market stall daily, hoping they’d add something vegan, and then I found out they have a whole shop literally around the corner from the market 😍 you can get all the vegan food you are looking for there, from the summer rolls to the pho 🍜 delicious! I have tried pretty much all the vegan choices on their menu - the take away comes in two sizes, you can get normal or large (bowl size doesn’t change, they add more stuff in the large one) the pho broth is delicious, light and spiced, a lot of veggies and fried tofu on top; you can get the bun also (warm noodles, without broth) which is delicious or the rice bowl. There’s always a long queue but the service is very quick so you never wait for too long 😉 prices are honest for the area. I highly recommend this place if you find yourself in need of a nice delicious lunch and you don’t want to get yourself into the madness of old street!

The market stall lunch of honey glazed chicken with noodles is a firm favourite. The guy chopping the chicken will scare the life out of you with his knife skills but a potential lost finger is worth the flavour.

Been in London over a year now and this is the best Pho I’ve had in UK ever!!! Bursting with flavours and was perfect for a chilly London afternoon. The line is usually long but moves fast. You could be waiting 5-10 minutes to place your order but it comes right away. I’d definitely visit again.

Fantastic lunch place. They've been excellent since they were a tiny counter-only operation in Clerkenwell, with the guy chopping out pork belly slices with a cleaver right before your eyes. They are a bit bigger now, with the kitchen out back. But the food is just as good as ever, and the service super fast, friendly and efficient. The queue out the door every day speaks volumes. Love this place!

Yum Bowl is a popular lunch destination, situated at the top end of Whitecross Street; While its menu is simple it makes up with plenty of flavour and the repeating customers are testimonial to this. Prices do vary but are never to the point that it feels overly priced with several goyza costing a couple of ££. If hoping to eat on site, there is limited seating both inside and outside, but the food while tasty might not be overly hot so be mindful that if you're planning to eat hot, you may require a microwave to give it a bit of heat. Certainly one to visit for a lunch bite.

It wasn’t worthy the money. The noodle soup was small of a portion. I’m still hungry after eating.

No longer called Chao - it's now Yum Bowl. Menu looks mostly the same but currently no banh mi available. House special Hue was great, really good broth and decent amount of noodles, beef, sausage and toppings.

Top selection of classic Vietnamese noodle dishes. The Bun Cha Hanoi (fish) requires a little wait, but it is well worth it.

At the Old Street end of Whitecross Market, this Vietnamese eaterie serves the most authentic pho as you will find anywhere in London. Largely takeout only, there are a few high bench seating, and tables and benches outside. Bliss on a sunny day. Go for a Vietnamese street food experience. At £8.50 for a bowl of House Special pho, what is there not to like?!

A must-not-miss stall at Whitecross food market near Old Street! I came here to get lunch around 12 noon. The queue for Yum Bowl was long, but moving fast. They had 6 different options - rice or noodles, pork or chicken. Then for pork, there’s soft or crispy roasted. Small box is £6.5 and large is £8. Cash only. The taste is amazing!! I’ll come back to try the other options! Highly recommended and worth the wait (only 5-8min wait anyway).

The best beef Pho in the world, period. The spicy chilli gave you an extremely hot punch! Amazing! Totally worth to take a whole day off just to be able to be here during lunch time.

Pho is so good. Cold weather and warm/hot pho is such an amazing combination. I have tried their rice bowl as well. The spice can be increased as required so that makes up for those who like it extra hot.

Excellent service and street food

The quality has really gone down hill. The Pho is overly spiced so you can’t taste any of the flavours. It’s barely editable. The noodles they use are different now, most likely a cheaper version as I’ve seen in other places. Shame as it was a favourite, will find other places to eat Vietnamese nearby.

Absolutely incredible. Every thing tastes great and is freshly made. They put loads of nice ingredients into everything that matches well. Very reasonably priced also. I would recommend their spicy hue soup if you like very spicy things, or their pork sandwich.

This is a very simple little place on Old Street selling a short menu of Vietnamese street food. They also have food stalls on Leather Lane which are there every day during the week. The best things are the rice bowls with either grilled chicken or pork belly, served with Chinese leaf and broccoli and extra chilli sauce if you want it - I would recommend that. The pork belly in particular is excellent and perfectly cooked with crispy skin, and portion sizes are decent, which means it's a good filling lunch for only £6. People queue up for it which is a good sign!

Best market food stall in any market I've been to in London (most of them!). It's too hard to resist going to Leather Lane with the good intention of getting something different, or healthy but then 9/10 times reverting to the crispy pork noodles yum bowl. Perfection in a bowl.

Beside the fact its so reasonably priced, Banh mi is only a fiver and to die for with proper Vietnamese bread.They make their own stock, a must for their aromatic soup offerings.. Its draw back is it only opens lunch times..Make a trip to this place, there is always a queue but its worth it.. Stunning food..

One of the best broth ive ever had, but always out of flat noodles even at 1ish pm. If flat noodles r popular why not stock more, just some opinion .

Delicious tofu bahn mi! Definitely worth a visit. Staff are really friendly. And you get lots for the price you pay. The noodle soup is also really yum.

I've stopped by this place to pick up their crispy pork bowl (with rice and veg) using Mealpal. The portion is pretty decent and the pork very good. You have the crackling exterior and tender meat. Quite a surprise - happy to stop by to try another lunch.

Found 4 pieces of plastic in my bowl of noodle n grilled chicken. It appears to be remenants of a broken cap or seal..just went and returned the bowl back. Check before you eat.

I tried the lemongrass pork with rice. It was okay,not the best compared to other Vietnamese cafe that I have been. However, I did not feel that they have put MSG in the pork, which was good!

Delicious and rich broth, the best I have tasted hands down. Go for the regular size at £6 it's worth every penny.

My Banh Mi was fine. I've had better. Baguette didn't quite have the requisite crunch. Meat was fine. Spice level was fine.

I love Asian food but the Tom Yum soup from Yum Bowl is by far my favourite one! They also have two food stalls at Whitecross Street Market (Mon - Fri, lunchtime) and it's just delicious. Invest in two additional dumplings, it's definitely worth it ;-)

I feel sorry for the people of London who think this is what Vietnamese food tastes like. I had a tofu banh mi. I was expecting a fresh salad with coriander on a crispy baguette and I got cauliflower soup on a soggy roll.

Best Vietnamese fried-grilled chicken rice in London.

This place is excellent, the food is so delicious and you get so much meat! You can even add more if you like. The queue looks long but goes pretty quickly. Price is amazing for what you get. 100% recommend!
