When booking let them know of any dietary requirements as the choices are unbelievably wonderful. I’m GF and DF and enjoyed every mouthful and of course a couple of cocktails 🍸 doesn’t hurt 🥰 will be back very soon x

This is a beautiful pub/hotel. We had had a horrible experience the night before in a hotel down in Carlisle so to arrive in beautiful Scotland and to this absolute gem was most welcome. Our room was lovely, cosy, clean and warm. It really felt like a home from home. The owner and the staff were all so welcoming and the food tastes fabulous. We had the most generous breakfast each day and the price is such great value. Great drinks and a lovely atmosphere. We enjoyed every moment here. Highly recommended and we will absolutely come back. Thank you to you all.

We had a really great experience at this restaurant. We were seated quickly and staff were immediately attentive, they were knowledgeable about the menu and I have to say, they are some of the sweetest, friendliest waiting staff I've came across. They were attentive enough throughout our meal, recognising when our drinks needed topped up etc, but not overbearing as some waiting staff can be in other restaurants. They really are a credit to their manager. They complimented their manager when we were chatting to them too, and we just got the feeling of a lovely overall work force. The food was excellent. The portion sizes were large and the value for money is incredible. I had the chicken curry from the menu and it is without a doubt one of the best pub curries I've ever had. I am very fussy with my meat, but the chicken was excellent cuts of meat that just fell apart in your mouth. We had 2 courses each, and 3 soft drinks, and were £30 each which I personally think is amazing when you consider the quality of the food, service and environment. We both agreed we will be back on a regular basis. Thank you all. 😊

Went to Ythanview for a funeral tea it was absolutely lovely after such a stressful day this was just what we all needed.Friendly helpful staff food was great price was very reasonable. Would highly recommend.

We were last here in 2019 and thought it was a lovely and cosy place. Definitely a disappointment today. The staff didn’t make us feel welcome at all and the service in general wasn’t great. The food was edible, but the immensely over boiled carrot and neep, with hard, squeaky green beans was a struggle. Sadly we won’t be back.

A midweek treat. Steak night at the 'View' is quite something, definitely book ahead. Shared a starter of Chicken liver pate, just a wee suggestion, melba toast would be better and h/m sauce please, otherwise excellent. We had to have steaks, so a rump and a rib eye were ordered m rare. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, maybe a longer rest could have helped as they cut easier as we ate. Home made chips are such a treat these days, but great to see..Pepper sauce added a kick of flavour. Really struggled to finish the meal and a pudding was impossible. Despite the restaurant being packed, the service was exceptional and food served in good time. Great range of real ales are available, Scapa was the choice tonight. Great to see a wee country pub in deepest Aberdeenshire doing so well.

A hidden gem of a place. Stopped in for lunch when dropping a pony off- easy parking across the road for lorry. Specials were all tempting - absolutely delicious food and very friendly staff. If we are passing we will definitely be back.

Cannot fault the service or the food here whatsoever. Have been before but not for a while .Decided to go forvthe Shepherds Pie special and it was delicious. My wife went for the Jays Curry and thoroughly enjoyed it .My sister went for the monkfish special and said it was excellent. The Ythanview was as good as ever and we are looking forward to returning in the near future.First Class 👍

Booked this hotel for the specific trip to photo Red Squirrels, Upon arrival Jay, his staff and the locals all made me welcome. Conversation flowed and the Talisker Whiskey tasted divine. Jay took time out to show me some red Squirrel hot spots, even getting out a OS map to point out the exact location. Once talking to customers it was soon apparent that the area was the right place to see this fascinating creatures. Early door adventures out to the woods did not disappoint, as long as you were quiet ( portable hide and seat) they came within 2 meters of you and simply got on with their day. Back at the hotel, the room was basic (yet had everything you would require - TV, Coffee, Tea (even Twix bar), very tidy and smelled very clean; the linen was nice to sleep on and the bed reasonably comfortable too. I was the only one staying over that weekend, however there was a special coach party in to support the local football field charity so the bar and restaurant was very busy. I retired early that night and Im pleased to say that the double glazing and distance away from the main bar area meant there was little noise coming in to the bedroom.. I fell asleep and slept like a log. Jay and his team support the local community and have helped them to gain access to some fabulous recreational facilities such as football field, Cricket pitch and even a bowling green. I wish them well and will be back again to take more pictures of the little and getting rare Red Squirrels. Thank you

Been our local for many, many, many years. Absolutely fantastic. Great real ale from fabulous Scottish breweries. Excellent food. Fantastic welcome from the brilliant staff.

We visited on the back of a recommendation from a work colleague and we weren’t disappointed. Having been seated beside the cosy fire we ordered 4 mains from the specials and main menu. The quality of produce and portion sizes were great and very flavoursome. The bubbly owner even talked us into ordering 4 desserts with the strawberry Eton mess living up to its billing. Great value for money and this first visit definitely won’t be our last one - great home cooked food

We stayed in Methlick for a week, and ate as a family at the Ythanview Hotel twice. Both meals were excellent, and the service was friendly and prompt. I highly recommend the haddock and chips. Fresh fish, crisp batter and great chips served with garden peas. Lovely. The whole family enjoyed the shared platters as starters as well.

This is the first time we have been here since before lockdown and it certainly didn`t disappoint. The staff were polite and helpful, the food was delicious and everything was clean.

Last Saturday we both had Covid and fancied something different for supper. Very kindly the Staff from the Ythanview cooked and delivered our supper. Just what the doctor ordered. Big thanks to all. Great community spirit shown as usual🤩🤩

As always food a delight and fantastic service, staff so friendly and welcoming, nothing to much trouble. In fact the dessert of the day the waffles with strawberries was so good we had two!😋 Can’t wait to come back.

Just love this pub, come monthly from Aberdeen to meet up with friends, food is always fabulous with an extensive menu and yummy puddings, great portion sizes. Staff have always been super friendly and bend over backwards to ensure you have a great dining experience. Can’t wait to come back.

We were passing through Methlick at 13:45 on a Saturday and dropped-in for a bar lunch. Great pub grub, good service from chatty staff and two real ales on draught (which are changed regularly). We'll definitely go back if in the area again.

We have stayed in Methlick for over 2 years now and have visited the Ythanview on numerous occasions just as a couple and with family and friends. The menu choice is excellent with different weekly specials. The food is always fantastic with generous portion sizes...

Met a chum for lunch on Sunday. Lovely fire, great atmosphere and prompt service. Place had lateral flow tests available outside, was very clean and the staff were clearly following the rules/ hygiene policies properly.

Best homemade food since we moved up here in 2004.Steak night on a Thursday. Which was beautiful. I'd far rather line the pockets of this pub that a big organisation. Plus the food is far superior Thanks to my neighbours mentioning it last Wednesday.Will definitely be locals from now one

Returned here after visiting last year.On entering we were instantly recognized and made to feel extremely welcome.We were glad to see that menu was the same and the specials board was still available.Fortunately my favourite,dressed crab,was on the specials that weekend and was absolutely fantastic.Fresh and wonderful taste.Our table of 5 all enjoyed their starters and mains we spent an enjoyable afternoon there. Will definitely be returning when visiting the area again

Being new to the area, we went to eat here to try it out. We arrived around 12:45, milled around for 2 minutes as no one was there to greet us and show us a table. We seated ourselves at a table and 30 seconds later a lady appeared and asked us to move because that table and area was set up for evening diners.....No hello, no welcome, just move. We obliged and noticed that a curtain was there to separate the 2 areas so why not use it?. Right off the bat we now feel unnecessarily awkward. Now, I don’t expect a suited server being it a country pub but trainers and an untucked stained t shirt is quite off putting when you are trusting someone front of house bringing food to the table.I ordered fish and chips. The menu stated ‘homemade tartare sauce’. This wasn’t delivered with the meal and I was asked if I wanted it after the plate was put down. Don’t know if this was an oversight or standard practice. My fish was average but the chips were outstanding. Definitely hand cut and cooked perfectly. The server was abrupt throughout and never engaged once to ask us if the meal was ok during or upon paying the bill. Overall, food would have us revisit but because of the service, we will not.

When ever we are in the Methlick area we visit here. Good honest pub food and the bar has a lot of character and characters!

Good price and great food! The pub is very clean and the staff is kindful! We enjoyed it. In the weekend after 7.30pm maybey you have to reservate.

Always when I return home I have a multiple dinners here. The fish is really good and served with a friendly Ellon atmosphere.

Mid-week lunch with good steak pie, flaky pastry and well cooked fries.. The downside was that the vegetables were boiled to death and tasteless. The curry was much appreciated but the service was prefunctory and unwelcoming. Not sure I would go back.

We've lived locally for many years but don't often find the opportunity to eat out, however each time we've visited the Ythanview we've had a fantastic meal at a very reasonable price. Last night my hubby and I each had 2 courses and shared a dessert, accompanied by a large wine, pint of ale and 2 lemonades for less than £50!

This was our first visit for a Saturday lunch. The food was excellent and tasted freshly made. The portions were a good size but the food was amazingly light and needless to say we had 3 courses! We will definitely be returning, if only for Jay’s HOT Home-Made Chicken Curry which was lovely.

Came here on Sunday with a friend after our walk at Haddo. We hadn't booked but that wasn't a problem. The waitress was really friendly and very efficient. I had fish and chips - I'd say the best I have had! My pal had the steak pie which had plenty of meat in it and was served with lovely seasonal veg. We both really enjoyed our meals and coffees. Will definitely return and recommend to friends and family :)

This is a lovely pub. Staff were friendly and efficient. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. We were given generous portions and it was great value for money. Would definately recommend a visit.

We were heading up to Fyvie Castle to attend a Vintage Car Rally and a family friend and (ex neighbour) was meeting up with us for our evening meal.

This pub is in Methlick on the main road and there's a free car park just across the road.

Walked in without a booking, with a bit of juggling the very pleasant server managed to fit us in. A busy place, friendly service, good food , decent helpings. Well priced. We were surprised how busy this country pub was.

Visited today with young children. Menu is very good. The food we ordered was lamb shanks (first class) kids had sausage & mash with was a good size and they ate it all. Would definitely come here for food again

Often visit the Ythanview when passing through the village and the food is first class. Opt for the curry and you won’t be disappointed, flavoursome and plenty of it. Great place, great atmosphere and very friendly staff.

Enjoyed a nice evening meal in this village pub. I had the homemade curry, my wife went for fish and chips, both were good. The service was very friendly. We are fans of Georgina McMaster so great to see so many of her prints on the wall.

We went here for Sunday lunch with two young children. There was a fantastic selection on the menu to suit all of us. Food came very quickly and was delicious. Would definitely return. Excellent value for money.

Unmemorable meal. Unfortunately even though we had a lovely table by the fire there was a very noisy crowd at the bar which totally ruined our meal. Couldn't hear ourselves think let alone talk to each other. Food ok, nothing special this time.

A good local pub with an open fire, and real ale specials. Fish and chips , and an adult portion of chicken goujons my favourites. Served with a dressed salad and tasty coleslaw. Not a bad sticky toffee pudding either. Staff always pleasant and helpful.

We passed this inn often and decided to pop in for lunch one day. First impression was good as it looks like a typical country pub and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We tried one of the real ales, which is always a good sign when available, and it was excellent. I decided to have the home made chicken curry which was very tasty and almost as good as traditional Indian. My wife had the Thai red curry and she thoroughly enjoyed it. We will certainly return and have no hesitation in recommending this lovely old inn.

Me, my wife and our 2 year old daughter went here after a Sunday had at the nearby haddo house. Such a lovely place to eat and/or drink. We were given the choice of where we wanted to sit which is always nice when you have a child. We were served warm bread rolls while we waited for our meals (everyone loves a bread roll)!! My wife had the lasagne & an apple something for pudding. I had an Aberdeen Angus burger with everything on it (bacon, jalapeños, chilli) and quite possibly the best ice cream sundae(nuts, cream, hot sauce) Iv ever had. Our daughter enjoyed some macaroni, chips and peas and a scoop of strawberry ice cream for desert. The girl that served us was very prompt and polite too. Can quite safely say we will be back again. The crack through in the bar looked not too bad aswell

Been around Ellon for a while and tried the hotel/bar for food..I’ve eaten most of the menu now and haven’t been disappointed at all...staff are lovely food is lovely..if your Driving past and hungry..stop..eat there...

Been here few times before and cannot fault the food at all a real favourite of mine in aberdeenshire, I had the homemade curry and the best curry I have ever had. The atmosphere is brilliant a real country feel with the coal fire burning in the back ground. Do not change anything you are doing as it’s brilliant. Can’t wait for my next visit.

If you want to go for a fantastic family lunch experience you wont to wrong with Ythanview. As my son's football had been cancelled due to a flooded pitch it was a chance to go out and have a family day of fun. From the greeting when we walked in the door to the moment we left we had a lovely experience. Value for money? Tremendous. Quality of food? fantastic .Service? Excellent, fast and very efficient with a big smile. Nothing better on a Sunday than a lovely plate of broth to warm you up. I followed that up with lovely lemon sole whilst the girls had the delicious roast beef with all the trimmings. The wee man simply demolished everything laid in front of him. Somehow the girls mustered up an appetite for pudding and my daughter received 2 spoons to share her huge slice of chocolate fudge cake with her brother. Will we be back soon? already my wife is rain dancing in the hope next week's football is cancelled too! Please support lovely places like this to eat. Oh and by the way the have a lovely log fire to complete the whole experience.

A typical friendly village pub that has staff and food to suit . Very busy place which is a good sign . The menu is varied with a good selection . Jays curry special is hot and very good . The steaks are excellent . Great portions . A good selection of beers aswell . Great overall food .

5 of us popped over today for our monthly "old guys" lunch and were delighted with the variety of real ale on offer and the delicious minestrone soup and succulent chicken curry, which was cheerily served by the attentive waitress. We will be back...

As usual, lovely meal, nice waitressing, had the lemon sole today, too much but father in law are the left overs! fire wasn't on today but never the less lovely 5*

My wife and I stayed here for one night. The owner was so flexible as we weren't sure if we were staying 1 or 2 nights or what time we would be arriving/leaving etc. We arrived at midnight, joined the locals (who were all so friendly) for a beer and headed off to bed. Very comfortable bed, quiet peaceful night sleep was had.

This is a lovely little inn we arrived with bikes and were given a safe place to leave them. Our room was spacious and the bed comfortable. There's a shower and who in the room with a bathroom just next door too. Being on bikes, we used the bath at night for our sore bones and the shower in the morning to freshen up. We arrived quite late but in time to pick t in an order for something to eat. Food arrived hot and quickly and service was great. The following morning, our host had breakfast underway, served on time and was good. He also took photos for us before wishing a safe onward journey. I would use this inn again.

I ate dinner here with my girlfriend on 7th June 2017. I would class it as one of the best meals out I have ever had in my entire life. The setting is nice and quaint. The service was good. There was a wide range of specials on offer. There were also a selection of beers available. I went for the Steak Pie which was top notch. I also had Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert and it was delicious.It's not often I leave reviews for restaurants, but this experience was so good I felt compelled to leave some nice comments. Overall, I would give this place 10 out of 10, and I will definitely be heading back there soon.

A god meal out with friends. I always have the curry with chips and rice, nice and spicy. Portions are average. The thing that bothers me here is when several people at the table order chips with their meal out comes the "chip share platter". I'd much rather have my own bowl of chips, I then would feel as if it's worth the extra pound I've paid for them and then my friends ordering the fried fish would (should) have the chips on their plate.

The ythanview is my local place to eat and drink and I would recommend it greatly! Every time I have been I am always given a warm welcome by the staff and made to feel at ease. The food is good value for money and tastes great too! The bar through the back of the restaurant is great too as all the locals make anyone feel welcome. Band nights are always a hit as well as the whole village comes down to support the music talent and usually ends up a fab night.

At a funeral and the hotel was the venue for the after/tea. We were made very welcome by the staff and the waitresses could not do enough when serving us..I cannot comment about main meals etc but it looks and felt like a great place to be.

Regular visitor to the hotel, food and service have been consistently excellent over the past two years and friends I have recommended it to have also not been disappointed.

I had dinner bed and breakfast here whilst working in the area. The people I was working for had only good things to say about it, so I went with high hopes. A nice smiley welcome when I arrived, and a nice warm fire going, and good service. Better than pub grub I reckon, plenty of it, and a reasonable price. The bedroom was basic, with a shower and sink in the room. Tea, coffee, a telly, and a comfy bed. The only issue was that I was woken a couple of times by the sound the water tank filling, which I guess must have been next to, or above the room. I'm a light sleeper so I guess it may not bother other people. Breakfast was good, and again there was plenty of it. Overall, good value for money. I'll stay there again if I'm in the area.

Came here for lunch with some friends. It was great to find somewhere serving what I would call "normal food". I had the special, liver and onions, followed by home made cheesecake which was superb. Clean plates all round. Great service in cosy room by the fireside. Will definately go back and recommend to others.

We eat here a lot and find its always best when it's quieter. It's quite good value for money, but you wouldn't want to pay any more than you already do for the food. It's quiant and usually quiet before 6pm

This is my local but unfortunately hadn't visited in a good while. Last night my family and I went for a celebratory dinner and it was amazing. Great range of feel good food on the menu as well as a good selection of specials! I had pork suedoise which is a firm favourite of mine, beautiful cream mushroom sauce. My father had the special spicy fish cakes and he thought they were delicious. The portion sizes are very generous, so it's great if you're looking for good feed. The staff are always very friendly, and made us feel at home. The cosy fire was on which was perfect for a cold and windy night. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

We were visiting, up from West Lothian, for dinner with our friends in the north. We arrived early & it was cold out, but the barman let us in before opening time, he had real fires & drinks, & we love him. Great wee local pub atmosphere. Everyone, staff and customers were friendly & welcoming. The staff do a great job. Loads of parking space out back too. Thank you for a delicious dinner & a very pleasant, cheerful & relaxed evening. Comfortable rooms and a true gathering place for the local community. My wife had family in the area three of four generations back and we wanted to see if she had any cousins left in the area. Jay, the Landlord, introduced us to the local "historian", had suggestions on where to look and even gave us a ride into the genealogical society in Aberdeen on one of his trips into town. We had a great stay and felt very welcome at the Ythanview. We spent 4 nights. Unfortunately, we didn't find any living relatives

I visited here with my wife for lunch after we decided the queue at nearby Formartines was too long. Good traditional pub food menu and choice of real ales on tap. The food was great and reasonably priced.

We decided at long last to visit the Ythanview, we have been ancestry hunting for the last wee while..... what a delight we had in our quality food.... the chicken liver pate my Husband & I had for our starters was first class and definitely home made, with quality Cumberland sauce with a choice of oatcakes or toast, which were both sampled. I went for the haddock & chips, which were totally fresh, I do so detest frozen chips in a restaurant (not that these were so).... my Husband went for the thai chicken/prawn curry which was recommended on their menu, which did totally come up to scratch for him, it didn't look a large portion, but he happily said the taste sufficed and was plentiful. Service was very attentive, a very happy and delightful young lady was on hand for the extra glass of wine I ordered.... we so enjoyed the ambiance of the corner we sat at & was delighted at the photos/book & other "offerings" from the Legion remembering the "not forgotten" who had sacrificed their lives for us; many photos from around the Methlick memorial, one of the names of which was my Husband's ancestor who had died in Australia..... we look forward to a return visit.....

The Ythanview is a pub genuinely at the heart of its community. Everybody locally, from every background, seems to meet and mix there. Open fires, an excellent selection of Scottish real ales.It also does excellent food. Pub food sells it a little short, its genuunely very good. Speciality is Thursday night Steak Night.

Good pub food, reasonably priced. Good choice on the menu. Nice on a cold winters evening to sit by the fire.

Good meals in a friendly village pub. Been coming here occasionally for over two years now. The main menu doesn't change much and has few vegetarian options. Several of the meals are very good. There are also specials that are excellent. The dessert menu is a bit limited and they could do with an espresso machine or cafetieres. The coffee comes in little plastic filters, which tastes okay but not excellent and perhaps not very environmentally friendly. Overall I would recommend the Ythanview when looking for a good meal in the area. Note that you cannot actually see the Ythan from the restaurant due to hedges around the play park across the road. The play park is also worth a visit of you have children or are young at heart.

I've just moved nearby. There is a very pleasant atmosphere and the village of Methlick is a welcoming place. There is a wide range of craft ales which is great. I had curry (with half rice half chips). You get a very generous portion which was great because I was famished! The curry was just right heatwise, spicy and filling. The other two had curry and fish and chips which they have both had before and finished their entire meals. We will all be back. Don't know if they have the old chef from Vale Fyvie but he does the best steaks so I'm keen to find out!
