The Commercial Hotel Restaurant in Aberdeenshire

Great food, steak and fish cooked to perfection, served with really good chips. Went for deserts too, which we don’t normally go for, butter tablet ice cream hit the spot.

This was our first meal out together since the Coronavirus outbreak started - and it was just a wonderful experience; a really enjoyable meal in a relaxing setting, at the end of a week spent exploring the beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside.We shared an excellent Seafood Platter as a starter, and our main courses (Duck Breast, and Lamb Tagine) were both superb - they flavours were wonderful, and you just got the impression that they had been prepared with care, by someone who wanted you to have an enjoyable meal. Desserts were just as irresistible - the gingerbread cheesecake can be recommended! Service was friendly and helpful, wines by the glass were very good value, and it all added up to a really enjoyable and memorable evening.

Came here for lunch for my mum's birthday. We have been wary of going out for food, due to Covid-19, but we felt extremely safe and enjoyed our experience. I had the Louisiana Chicken, was delicious. Will be back!

This is super tasty and great table service great place to go. Great £10 off per person🙂🙂 we are on holiday and found this place not knowing what it was and was blown away☺️☺️ toilets are clean and easy definitely the place to go!!

Fantastic food. Best beef I’ve tasted in a long time. Everyone including two fussy kids thoroughly enjoyed. Spotlessly clean and a great covid setup. Totally recommend.

We went for a family meal with children. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and the food was fabulous.

Came here for lunch on the way home from Crathie as it was getting to the end of lunchtime and was hungry. The decor was nice but the food was not particularly tasty unfortunately and I didn’t enjoy my meal much - I had the buttered chicken fillets with fries and garlic mayo but there was far too much batter, it was too greasy. Maybe a different dish would have been better but hard to say. The coleslaw had a lot of mayonnaise in it too. I’m not sure if I would return here unfortunately but perhaps a different dish would be tastier. I was also charged an extra pound from what was advertised on the menu for fries which I didn’t understand because the fries were meant to be included in the meal by the look of it.

Cosy restaurant, courteous staff, delicious food - just recommendable! From Haggis over Burger to Fish and Chips and the dessert ... Sticky toffee pudding - a dream!

We came here for a meal whilst visiting Aboyne and were very impressed. My wife had the mezze platter & I had the tex mex burger -- both were fantastic. The menu here is amazing -- so much interesting choice. The beer too was excellent (try the Due South!). Our waitress, Charlotte, was lovely. The only slightly irritating aspect of our visit was a billing error - having to ask for certain items to be removed & being treated by the woman behind the bar as if I were trying to pull a fast one! Apart from that, perfect.

Stayed nearby and tried a new place each night. I had a satisfying fish and chips and my wife tried the battered haggis fritters- when in Rome....Cute little square of a "commercial" district, easy parking and we were seated immediately. Food delivered promptly and while I did try the haggis, I think it is an acquired taste. Nothing fancy, but friendly staff and good food.

we loved this Inn, food was tasty and generous portions. Staff were friendly with a great sense of humour. A perfect place to eat if a solo traveller as not only the staff but all the guests seem very friendly indeed...lovely atmosphere, lots of laughter.

Staying up the road at the camping site and a short walk to the village this is the better of the two, good Ale and food and in winter more than likely a nice fire, used by the locals and a friendly place to rest , quiet area all around as well as a few shops to buy your food and a Post office to get some money and other goods

We visited the Commercial for dinner. The menu choice was varied, the food very good quality and we were made to feel most welcome. Would certainly come back

Dined here while touring in motor home and what a lovely meal we had, lots of gluten free options! Well stocked bar also!! Staff friendly and attentive would recommend!!

I live locally so have had the pleasure of eating at the commercial on a number of occasions and it's been great every time. The staff are friendly and professional, the food is fantastic and good value for money and the restaurant is warm and inviting. The commercial is a credit to Tarland that for such a small town we are very lucky to have. Keep up the good work!!

Have been to the commercial a few time. Unfortunately I’ve had more misses than hits.

Had the haddock and chips last night and struggled to finish, 2 large pieces of fish. Should have gone for the smaller portion option. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.

We stopped in here for dinner one night, while staying at the local campsite, and I had what I would consider the best meal of my entire holiday in the UK here! My husband also enjoyed his meal very much. The food was so tasty and good sized portions, with plenty of choice.

Have been a few times, and never disappointed with our food, friendly service, good for vegetarian, usually a couple of choices.

Great place for a draft beer, fresh soup, and a veggie burger. Excellent and friendly service. We walked down from Douneside House. The place was dog-friendly and there was a park down the street for our 13 year olds

Fantastic 3 days/nights short break at The Commercial Hotel, Tarland!! Situated close to nearby villages/towns & a fantastic place to stay!! Very clean, modern room, cleaned on a daily basis during our stay!! Staff are extremely polite, helpful & very friendly, nothing is to much for them!! Superb range of meals from Breakfast to Evening, very well presented, good sized portions, good value for cost!! Nice warm atmosphere with a beautiful Beer Garden!! This was our second visit to this Hotel & would without a doubt fully reccommend & return again!! Thank you to All Stafff for excellent service x

Staying nearby we came upon this great little pub for lunch. The menu was solid, the staff friendly and food good. The village is cute and worth a stop.

Popped up here for a meal on a Saturday night. Lovely dining room - met by very friendly efficient staff. 2 of us had the Bonnie Prince Charlie chicken - chicken pan fried with apples & drambuie in a creamy sauce - delicious- also served with generous amounts of vegetables. One had Curry which he said was the best he’d had for a long time - lovely chunks of chicken and potatoes all served with rice, nan bread and chutney. Only regret was that we couldn’t manage a dessert! Next time! Although they serve all day - I’d recommend booking especially for an evening as we noticed most of the tables were reserved - that speaks for itself. Delighted to have found this gem & look forward to going again very soon. Waitress Mo and her colleague ( sorry didn’t catch her name) made us feel very welcome.

Had a lovely lunch here once more and could not fault it. Selection of 3 courses was from a good variety of dishes available on the menu, all perfectly cooked to our taste and well presented. We ate in the bar lounge which was very comfortable and the table service was excellent. Will be returning.

Enjoyed birthday treat here with friends and we all liked our food. A bit more expensive than some places. Women seem to run it. Are they ex RAF or services like a lot of people in this village.

We booked an evening meal here on saturday eve with our dog.We were told it would have to be in the bar but when we arrived the seating area although in the bar its more the lounge area.the only difference was the clientelle was working class.

staying in logie coldstone for the week we intended visiting the commercial one night before we left. glad we did. Charlie looked after us and made us welcome before everyone else arrived. we passed on starters so we could enjoy a pudding 2 course. mains we had Louisiana chicken, pork belly, beef with couscous. and for the youngest sausages. - nothing got left behind , every plate emptied...puddings were chocolate brownie, bannoffie pie and ginger cheesecake. - again nothing left but the bit of sauce on the plate. thoroughly enjoyed and couldn't fault a thing. don't let the plain exterior put you off coming in, it's such a contrast inside...great

Lovely place. We did not stay at hotel, was just passing through and called in for an evening meal. Very good service, very good food at reasonable prices. A nice atmopshere to the place. Would happily go back

I had a lasagne and my husband had the steak with pepper sauce and we demolished it all. So delicious! The prices were average, but the meals were worth it. Recommend to all.

ate breakfast, lunch and evening meal on different days when staying in the area. Efficient friendly service, very nice food and not overpriced, preferred sitting in the lounge/restaurant to the front bar, overall a nice atmosphere, would return if ever in the area.

Best food in our entire stay in Scotland. Fish n' chips a must have! You can eat in the pub, in the dining room or - weather permitting - in the lovely beer garden in the back.

The Commercial Hotel is a great place to catch a meal if you decide you want to eat out on the spur of the moment, or as a treat. The menu is varied and reasonably priced and the food is always excellent.

We went for dinner and had a great time. We took a table in the restaurant although space was available in the lounge too. Atmosphere seemed very nice in both so it wasn't easy to choose. The menu was extensive offering 'pub favourites' as well as many international meals- some of them quite unusual. We were a group of three and everything that we tried was excellent. Will definitely go back again. Highly recommended.

We visited here after walking from aboyne. We sat in the pub area which was dog friendly. The staff were very friendly and attentive. It was an ideal lunch location for muddy walking boots and a wet dog.

Came here for some chips and a drink after a walk - the best chips I've ever had and super friendly service, perfect for a refuel after walking around the beautiful Tarland landscape

Stopped off for a quick pint and some soup after a walk. Very friendly service from young guy, good soup and amazing chips. Looks like it has been done up recently...well worth a visit...

The menu is varied and the food is really good and the staff are very helpful. We stayed 2 nights and eat in the hotel both nights. The breakfast selection is superb. Definitely recommend

Lovely meal had at the commercial hotel tarland, booking by phone ,friendly staff ,varied menu ,willing to accommodate your needs .Comfortable seating warm atmosphere ,I had sirloin steak which was done to my wishes and was yummy ,with all the trimmings ,chips in baskets

Staying in a local hotel (was unaware this had rooms or would have stayed here) we ate here both nights of our weekend away. The food was exceptional and well priced and the staff were very friendly and polite. They maintained a very professional manner whilst serving the table of unruly visitors next to us which quite frankly would have tried the patience of a saint!...well done

We spent 2 nights in Tarland and ate all our meals at the Commercial. The staff are friendly, the food is great and the menu options extensive. There's a garden area out the back if the weather is nice.

Our first visit to the area and what a good find! The staff were lovely and very helpful. The restaurant was spotless and the food was delicious! Great choice on the menu and very fair price. We will definitely be back!

On arrival we were made to feel very welcome. The food was so good we went back the following night for another meal from an extensive menu. All together a good atmosphere, great food and good service.

We found out about this restaurant online and wanted to sample some of the menu items. My husband had the Bonnie prince Charles chicken with drambuie and I had the curry. Our waitress and her helper were very nice locals and worked very hard.

Really friendly staff. The menu was great. Lots of unusual choices which all sound amazing. I couldn't decide there was so much choice. Ended up with the Moray Fish Pie. It was out of this world. There were 4 of us & everyone of us enjoyed our food. I will be back to sample more from this menu as the standard was very high.

Great welcome to this wee pub , food is great and cannot fault it . Worth a trip and enjoy local hospitality .

Second visit to the bar at the Commercial, having popped in last year during the Tarland show we made an effort to visit purely for lunch. The food is delicious and served in a pub setting behind the main lounge - of course there is also a proper restaurant which most reviews here focus on. We ordered the gammon steak - it was huge! The photo doesn't do it justice, it almost covered the whole plate; and was almost an inch thick in places but had been cooked to perfection and was delicious. It came with a portion of chunky chips. The dessert was sticky toffee pudding; again a huge portion. We'd definitely recommend popping in for a bite if you are nearby - the food is some of the best pub grub we've ever eaten and we will definitely be back.

Have eaten here frequently over a number of years and love the food. Good, local ingredients and an excellent wine list. Well worth a visit.

Surprisingly interesting menu for what was previously more of just a basic hotel in Tarland. Starters were fine, but main very strange - sadly we all ordered the same Seafood Tagliatelle, and it just had zero flavour and near zero sauce. Full of assorted seafood so can't complain on generosity of portion (although was weird having the tagliatelle sort of pre-chopped in to 2-3" bits) but it simply tasted of nothing.

We ate here four nights in a row while visiting the Tarland area. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was so good we didn't bother looking for anywhere else to eat. The menu was varied and everything we chose was delicious 😁

We recently held a family wedding at the hotel, the service, food and accommodation were excellent and the staff very friendly which resulted in a most successful day.
