Ying Wah in Liverpool

We visited the restaurant on Easter Sunday and the food and service were excellent. However, the evening was somewhat spoilt by a man who was sitting by the window having a drink and watching football on his laptop which was quite loud. A couple who were sitting nearby and having a meal politely asked him to turn the volume down at which point, he became very aggressive and an argument ensued for about 30 minutes. Shortly afterwards, they finished their meal and left. His raised voice and continued persistent arguing made everyone in the restaurant feel uncomfortable and the staff did absolutely nothing to intervene. We have encountered this type of behaviour in this restaurant before with groups of men sat by the window using foul language and drunken behaviour which is unacceptable. This experience has left us reluctant to return and the management need to address this issue.

Went to the ying wah for the 1st time in maybe 20yrs the place has been renovated to a good standard, went in was greeted by a big bloke who was really friendly, however the skinny chinese bloke who served us shouldnt be dealing with customers I'm not sure if he was having a bad day but he gave the impression he didnt want to be there, not friendly almost like arrogance, 1 word replies like as if dont ask me anything, we was taken to our table (very small) the food on the other hand was fabulous faultless, I would have given 5 star if the service from that member of staff would have been as good as the food

This night was atrocious, we was in a group of people and ordered food yet didn’t receive all dishes and still had to pay the full bill

Nice location and pleasant inside with a modern feel, staff friendly, we had the £25 banquet that they call a platter….soup was okay, duck was good , ribs okay but not a lot of taste, sweet n sour chicken, chicken was chewy, beef n green pepper was tasty but again chewy meat, cut to thick.rice was average,pot of Chinese tea was on the expensive side at £6, but nice, so £56 bill, 1st time visit and last -probably won’t go back .

Starters and mains good. Chicken and sweetcorn soup was bland and has an unpleasant taste. The rice was the worst I have ever had in a Chinese restaurant. It was clear it had been cooked in advance and was vile. It was like takeaway rice that had been sat in a plastic tub in the warmer. Sweaty and overcooked. Urgh. It was expensive too. We won’t be back.

This family restaurant is consistently good no matter what time you go! The food is very tasty, well presented and always hot. The staff are very knowledgeable and on the ball. Good work guys!

Lovely food lovely staff always come here with the fambo never had a bad meal out off there. The taste bud will be back

One of the best chinese restaurants outside of Chinatown. The food is superb and of the highest quality. Portion sizes are perfect. I highly recommend the Beef in Black Bean sauce. The Dim Sum starters are amazingly good too.

Amazing food no more to be said thanks Simon and team family take away kids loved chicken nuggets adults loved chickrn chow mein chicken and sweet and sour chicken everyone happy you must try highly recommended

Came here with my family for years but this time took my boyfriend for his birthday meal. Perfect for Chinese cuisine lovers: good food, speedy service, nice atmosphere.

Yes its worth a visit its welcoming relaxed with a pleasant atmosphere,food was very nice ,will visit again.

This looks nice outside in woolton village. We ordered the food. I felt I insulted at the food, it was passed to us on school children plain cheap tiny plates. Nothing special and a complete rip off to what you get for your money, a family get together ruined!!

Food is gorgeous, abit expensive but expect that in woolton village, staff very rude and not very attentive.

Went for a meal party of six 3 couples. Food was really nice and the service was also very good. All 6 said it was really nice and would definitely eat at this restaurant again

Really poor effort! Not Chinese food, not very fresh. Cod in spring onion & ginger - more like overdone, rubbery fish fingers in gravy! Dry, over cooked chicken, tasteless siu mei. Very disappointing, won't be back

Food was very small portions. We had a Banquet. ribs were tough. pancakes so thin they fell apart. Crispy duck was cremated. Beef and green peppers ... we had one piece of green pepper, beef was tough. Used to love this place. Will not be returning.

The noise and atmosphere is shockingly bad, kids running wild in this place. Seated right under stairs that are constantly being walked down... made us almost deaf. Couldn't have a conversation. Portions are extremely small as well, however the food was cooked well and tasted ok.

Never again, raw chewy Sui Mai's, they looked like offal inside. Curry beef, sauce was horrible, beef chewy and barbecue ribs, chewy and tasteless!

Really disappointed ordered wartips, crispy duck, fillet steak Cantonese, wartips not good, , fillet steak Really thin and very dry, to chew, will not be returning, always found food lovely but not this time, 🤬

We went to celebrate my mums 80th birthday on Saturday night the staff were rude when we entered food wasn’t that nice bland would not go there again

Emory when we arrived so thought yes get great food and attention. Not so. Staff not very welcoming. Won ton soup very bland and so was chicken fried rice either which really shouldn’t go wrong. No soy sauce on table to add flavour. Best thing was prawn crackers. Usually very good but will not go again.

I never leave reviews but this was seriously awful. Do not go. We had a banquet...£25 pp. Portions so small and food quality not great. If you'd have had a better experience in your local chippy for less than half price...then its not good.

We dined as a large party and it was an ideal place. The food was nice, service was great for a large party and they have clearly managed large number before.

This restaurant is lovely, the staff work extremely hard to ensure your experience is the best it can be. The food, service and price is amazing. You need to visit to see what I mean. Lovely evening had by all.

Went for my wife's birthday meal.... so disappointed menu selection was minimal, not a great choice, set meals not great. But the biggest disappointment was the actual food spring rolls were greasy, ribs like leather with not much meat & sauce very bland, prawn toast was also greasy. Not a great night at all, and it was a bit pricey for what we had.

Beautiful restaurant in Woolton Village. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. Simon, the owner, always makes you feel welcome.

First time here and unfortunately our last. There is much better asian restaurants in Liverpool. Soup was bland no flavour, main meals were ok but nothing special.

We booked this restaurant before our ski holiday and on our return to Liverpool, we got a Uber from airport travel lodge to the restaurant. The food was good as was the friendly service and all 10 members of our party enjoyed the experience.

Very disappointed customer……..I have been going to the Ying Wah for the last 38 years and have always loved the food here, but I can’t quite believe the service and food we received on 19/02/23, the staff were rude and lolling about on the bar, or just staring at us, as for the food I complained about the soup having no taste, the waitress just looked at me, the main meal was no better. When we asked for the bill it was slammed down in front of us. Customer service has gone right out of the window to what used to be a lovely friendly restaurant, with great food, such a shame.

Ok so I had read the reviews prior to visiting like I do with all restaurants before I visit. After reading the reviews I thought ok sounds good lets pay them a visit. Wow this place is awful the food is disgusting with the exception of the crispy duck which is pretty much the same where ever you visit. We ordered a banquet for two and began with chicken and sweet corn soup. Tasteless!!! followed by crispy duck 10 out of 10. We ordered sui mai as extras yuk they were the worst ever they were more like luncheon meat dumplings. Then came the chicken spring rolls again extras no comment other than awful. At this point not looking forward to the main course however let's see. Beef in green pepper in black bean sauce never had this before with red peppers? also sweet and sour chicken again left a lot to be desired. I suggest this Restaurant changes it's menu and food supplier or definitely changes the chef.

Had a lovely meal here yesterday. I was a bit cautious after reading mixed reviews on here. But the service was excellent ( no service charge on the bill). The food was delicious ...ribs, sweet and sour prawns. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was my husband thought his main meal portion was a bit small. Mine was fine. It was Monday night and it was very busy. We'll be back.

Fabulous food and service. We have been coming to this family run restaurant for years and it just gets better and better. Simon and his team always make us feel so welcome and the food is delicious...especially the hot and sour soup which is the best we have ever tasted. This restaurant is one not to miss!

Great food our new go to Chinese restaurant

Nice food but the service was shockingly bad which really ruined the experience. We booked for 7:30pm and when we arrived were kept waiting for our table until 8pm and then waiting until 8:20pm until someone finally came to take our drinks order. Once we placed our order they forgot some items and we were waiting once again for 20 minutes to be given the bill. Overall a shame because nice food and atmosphere completely ruined by slow and frustrating service. Not really worth the £150 price tag which included a non consensual gratuity by the restaurant.

Relaxed and the best food in woolton village

Nice restaurant. Food was good, although the fried rice was a bit bland and tasted like microwave rice. Banquets quite pricey for what you get. Really friendly staff and good service.

Friendly service and tasty food

Food was mediocre, customer service was basic, the table had chewing gum stuck under it which ruined my girlfriends pants. I regret going here. Scored it a two as the soup was good but that's it.

It must be 15 years since visiting here which is a good indication of what we thought the place was like, it's been transformed (what did I expect after 15 years) and is now a very modern restaurant, everything was superb the staff very polite and attentive and the food certainly was fresh and came out hot and delicious. We'll be back next week I'm sure..

We have been going to the Ying Wah for years, and always really enjoyed the food. Simon the owner is a great host and very welcoming. Since the refurbishment, we really like the bar area as well. We go in their just for drinks if we’ve already eaten.

Won't be visiting here again.Really Disappointing!!!!!

Absolutely Amazing Service. Food was delicious. Over 30 of us this evening for my daughters 18th meal and not one complication. Made our night go so smoothly. Would defo recommend for a special meal 😋

Staff were friendly. Some of the dishes were disappointing. Chicken in yellow bean sauce and the pork ribs, we've had better, but the prawn toasts and spring rolls were great.

Ok, maybe I am a little biased as I've been going to the Ying Wah for a quarter of a century or more, but it is still brilliant. The new layout is lovely and gluten free menu not bad at all. You won't be disappointed if you try it out.

Food good but habe spoiled the decor with the referb mot Chinese decor but looks like a cafe sorry about this been going there on and off for years don't think will be going again Sorry.

Great food, great staff, fairly priced, nice little building, not much in the way of parking but there is a small carpark across the road and on street parking but it gets busy so plan ahead. This place is without doubt one off the best chinese restaurants in Liverpool, worth checking out for sure.

I took wortip like a starter and roasted duck with orange sauce. It was awesome! I suggest it if you want a traditional Chinese meal!

Lacking a little bit of finesse from the old days of Ying wah

After a small delay our time at the restaurant was great.we were cellabrating a 60th birtday and couldnt have spent it in a nicer place,as my daughter pointed out,everything about it was 10/10, the food was amazing, and the staff were very proffesional.this is our second visit here,but it wont be our last.if you are in the area and want a top chinese meal,this is the place to go,and the price of the food,is brillant, for such good food. 5***** all the way..

Amazing authentic Cantonese food along with all the other oriental flavours. Great friendly staff members that are down to earth and will solve any issues you have promptly and are very attentive. Quick service. The restaurant also doubles as a bar in the evening with knowledgeable cocktail staff on from 3pm. Highly recommend for food or drinks if you are passing by.

Brilliant restaurant lovely inside was very busy for a weekday evening, we sat in, the food was great, would definitely go again, the dim sum platters are rather big but the mains are about average so both a starter and a main can be a bit to much food but didn't leave wanting more felt full after meal. Service and food was great.

Best Chinese food in Liverpool, great food, great atmosphere, great beer, great staff, just been re-decorated and it adds a whole new level of enjoyment. Well done.
