Yi-Ban - Royal Albert Dock in Newham

Nice restaurant with linen tablecloths, very attentive servers, and a picture menu so you know what you're getting. I visit every time I fly into London city airport. The restaurant is on the second floor and the entrance is on the parking lot side on the east end of the building.

Amazing food, super quick and always so busy. Reservation recommended. Great views

The long queue at opening was a good sign this place was legit! Grumpy waitresses are also a right of passage for a busy dim sum place. The food was great and the view across the water to the LCY airport runway kept our young son fascinated throughout our meal. Be sure to grab a piggy custard bao!

This was a well hidden gem and so glad we found it. We were staying in the Holiday Inn and just a short walking distance away. The staff were so friendly and the food was delicious. My daughter particularly liked it as it was over looking London airport and she could watch the planes landing and taking off while having her food. Would definitely visit again.

Doesn’t open on Sundays due to “private events”. Lady said they “don’t do Internet”. Best to call every time. Food is okay, some dishes good. The view is nice.

I've visited Yi Ban Restaurant & Bar twice so far, and it's the only option nearby besides hotel food. You will need to walk up the stairs to find the sign. The Chinese cuisine at the restaurant was impressive, not resembling typical fast food. The takeout vegetables were a bit overcooked for my taste, but the variety pleased me. Most of the staff were great but one didn't come across welcoming. I did need to ask for utensils despite ordering takeaway for the second time and there is only hotels around and hotel rooms don't usually have utensils in the rooms. The steamed pork was a standout, a unique twist, reminiscent of shumai without the wonton skin but with a salty fish kick. It's conveniently located 15-20 minutes from the convention center or a quick 5-minute train ride. Dinner around 8 pm tends to get busy, and the ambiance varies in sound level each visit. They offer dim sum alongside the regular menu, providing a classic Chinese restaurant feel. The staff's ability to speak Cantonese was a plus for language practice. The restaurant offers a view, but its visibility might be covered depending on the time of your visit. This venue accommodates a large group of people for events or gatherings. Overall, I had a positive experience and I recommend trying their big selection of food.

Located in a location uneasy if you do not drive

I've been here a few times in the past and it's never fallen short of a great experience. It's definitely a bit of a hidden gem, but absolutely worth going to!

The price has increased by 20% to 30% compared to last month, but the food is average.

Went as part of a group booking which mentioned there were dietary requirements. I was told very loudly "No, we can't serve you" when I said I was intolerant to gluten. It was unnecessary and blunt. This should have been explained when making the booking or I wouldn't have come. It was mortifying. Do not go here if you have dietary requirements!!!

Ordered food, barely finished, bill delivered rapid and was ejected before I had finished my meal - totally disgusting and unacceptable - avoid at all costs go elsewhere

This place has so much potential but fails on so many levels. Food is average at best and overpriced for the quality. Staff were really busy but had almost no interest in me as a solo diner. Such a shame but the place is almost always full so I guess it must have something going for it. But it’s so handy for me when I stay at the travel lodge opposite so I will be back in the hope of a better experience next time.

Very decent Hong Kong style dim sum. I have been eating here for many years. Whenever I want dim sum, I come here.

What a great night. Veeeeeery expensive but the food was absolutely perfect, and the staff friendly.

I'm genuinely shocked that this place is currently rated as 4.1 on Google reviews... Firstly, you have to pay for parking, no big deal I guess, but then you enter the building and notice that it's incredibly run down, dirty and worn out. On entering the actual "restaurant" I genuinely couldn't tell if I had entered a buffet or an actual restaurant due to the chaos in the main area, and constant noise of plates being thrown around in the kitchen. The food was overpriced, and it all looked and tasted like buffet food, no quality at all. The drinks tasted off, normal coke tasted like diet, and I don't think it was branded as they brought it already poured into the glass, no fizz, no flavour. The first attempt they made at my sweet and sour chicken had a massive hair in it, which the waitress tried to hide by curling it around her finger, hoping we didn't see it. Everything else that was brought out was lukewarm as if it had been sitting out for ages, with some dishes coming out completely cold; again, adding to the buffet vibe…I'm honestly shocked that this place has any customers.

Food took 40mins to arrive and they refused to take off the service charge reporting that it is compulsory as they clear the tables.

Great restaurant! plenty of room, nice soft lighting, quite an elegant decoration and a long balcony for you to view the river. I was here for a family gathering and the food was amazing, the roast pig with the hoisin sauce was on point and the thai style chicken feet was perfect! absolutely amazing dish. We also had lobster, although it wasn't cooked in ginger spring onion the dish was still very good. Along with all the other dishes they were all tasty. If you are going by car remember bring coins or use the parking app to pay for the parking meter.

It was my first time at Yi-Ban, and I particularly enjoyed the duck with orange, though I can't recall the exact name of the dish. It was absolutely delicious! The restaurant also has a fantastic view, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

The food here has always been very good, of this there is no question, but honestly the staff are very curt and cold and give you the impression they would rather you weren't there then have the audacity to charge you the pleasure on the bill. Food arrives at different times which is hardly ideal when your rice dish arrives 15 minutes after the side dishes. The name Yi-ban translates as first class, not quite I'm afraid.

This is a definite don't go. I won't go back. We ordered five items, of which three were really bad and two were mediocre. The fried beansprout noodles were so burned, it tasted like charcoal. The vegetarian spring rolls looked like they had been fried before and refried. The dumplings made my lunch companion have stomach aches afterwards. Upon arrival, there was a line but not a clear system how to proceed (when you walk to the front of the line and wait long enough, someone will come give you a ticket with a number. They come out and call numbers, but not loud enough for all to hear, hence the large grouping of people near the entrance (in the hope to see the manager come out and call a number). The entire meal for 2 people and 5 items was 65 pounds (vegetarian spring rolls, beansprout noodles, mixed vegetable and 2 orders of dumplings).

Had a great time celebrating my son’s 35th birthday with 12 other guests. The food and were great. Service charge well earned !

I've been looking for a Chinese restaurant close to us after receiving pretty shocking service from our previous regular place on three separate occasions. We don't go there anymore. It was disappointing not having somewhere close by and having to go all the way to Chinatown, but I'm so so happy we've found Yi-Ban now. There was a long queue when we arrived and I was worried we'd be waiting for a while but to my relief, there was a ticketing system and we didn't queue up for long. Our first interaction with the staff was super positive and it carried on until our last interaction with them. The food was amaaaazing too and the staff were so kind and accommodating to my two little kids. The scenery was great and I loved the atmosphere too. I'll be back with my husband who I know would absolutely love it too. Thank you Yi-Ban for the unforgettable experience, you've earned a loyal customer (and her family too!). Keep up the excellent work!

Been back after a long time , ordered ginger beef with rice and a small bottle of beer , paid £30! Taste same as any Chinese take away, just ok. Beer is overpriced of course, poor value for the price I paid.

Our cousin took us to Yi-Ban, a Chinese restaurant near London City Airport, where you can watch planes taking off and landing right from your table! There’s a parking lot available, but you do have to pay a fee. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food arrived quickly—and it was delicious! After dinner, we took a short walk around the area to stretch our legs.

This reminded me of a real Hong Kong YamCha place. Yet the prices are a bit high.

Table for 6, managed as a walk in early lunch on a Sunday with less than 10 minutes wait. Restaurant was very busy already, so expect to have to take a ticket to que. Quite noisy inside. Service is light-speed. If you have to catch staffs attention, be big and bold with your hand up! Food is very good. Service efficient and fast. Clean and tidy from what I saw. Recommended.

I came here once two years ago, and I remember the food was quite delicious, so I brought some friends here to eat this time, but all the dishes were super salty and hard to eat. Forget it, after all, everyone’s taste is different. Maybe the taste of everyone at our table is too bland? But the thing that most affects my mood is not that the food is too salty, but that there is a middle-aged waitress with long hair who really has a poor service attitude. I know you are very busy and hard, so if you are just expressionless, it is understandable. After all, it is just It's not funny to bring a plate and a dish, but your very impatient expression and attitude really make the people who came to eat in high spirits very unhappy and make them feel bad even after eating. This time I came, I thought she had left, but she was still there, with the same super impatient expression and attitude (we didn’t rush her at all), which made me immediately recognize her as the spoiler sister two years ago! ! ! It's really impressive. I've been eating out in restaurants for more than ten years, and this is the first time I've seen such a waiter in a restaurant. We are all Chinese overseas. It is not easy to do business. I really don’t want to embarrass the Chinese, but this is really bad. I don’t easily Google reviews, but it’s so bad that I can’t help it.

Authentic Cantonese dishes with nice views.

Too basic for how much they charge. Hidden charges are ridiculous. A waiter was shredding a duck I purchased whiles talking over it. If this is done next to my table then you can guess what’s done away from view. Never again.

This restaurant is worth spending time to come here. Variety of Dim Sum and favorite chinese style dishes is served. Overlooking the London city airport and plenty of parking space.

Got scammed. Travelled an hour just to try this restaurant but they were closed for some wedding. Information not updated on either Google or website. Scam!

Visited just as the main lunchtime period was coming to an end so still busy but staff were not rushed. Ordered off the full menu rather than having Dim Sum and all the food was hot and fresh with great flavours. The views from the restaurant across the Royal Albert Dock towards London City Airport provide an interesting distraction with plenty of activity to watch at the airport although the waters of the Dock were quiet at the time of the visit. We travelled by public transport with the restaurant in easy walking distance of 2 DLR stations are several bus-stops on a number of different routes.

I loved this place first few times. However went last night and was really put off by the filthy bathroom. They didn’t have certain dishes and I’d love to sneak peek into the kitchen to see how clean that is.

Great place to eat and fantastic view

My absolute favourite spot to eat at. I come here at least once a month with my partner. We recently had a large family function for a 30th Birthday and the staff here were more than accommodating of our needs - many folx had dietary requirements but the range of food on the menu was perfect so everyone was catered for from the meat eaters to halal eaters to vegans. We booked in advance to ensure everything went smoothly. Staff were super friendly all night and service was top tier as always. Would always come back for more! I know 6 people had food poisoning after eating here. Sadly it caused him to miss his university final exams and he has to wait for 1yr before university will offer this exam again

Excellent food and very good customer service

I always love coming here for dim sum with the family. There's pay and display parking, step free access for those who need it, and the food and service is always good. The only downside is that the interior can do with some updating, and it can also be a bit loud during when it's a full house. Other than that, I would come here again and definitely recommend this restaurant for good and authentic Chinese cuisine.

Don't bother coming here. Food is bland and pretty tasteless. There is nothing fried about the fried rice, the sweet&sour sauce tastes a bit worse than Uncle Ben's and they brought us mayo with pineapple chunks as a sauce for the chicken. Undercooked veg, overcooked meat, all slapped together in a grand "screw you, pay us!" manner on the plates. Might be different if they think you're Chinese, might have given us the British cuisine special, we'll never know. The view is nice if you're into airports and post-industrial decay. If the owner ever bothers replying, I'll gladly swing by and show them what exactly fried rice is.

Have visited many times previously in other years to eat and have a beer. One of my favourite places. Today Mr arrogant was on duty and refused to let me sit and enjoy a beer at a non eating table. Clearly not busy but still refused my money. Big loss, I was happy to spend money. Remember the customer is king, but not today or my face didn't suit. Don't recommend anymore. Don't visit 😔

This is our routine dim sum place, nice Airport view and importantly the food quality is very authentic. If you go for lunch on a weekend, you may need to get there early since the restaurant is busy most of the time; they don’t accept advance booking for small tables.

Excellent food with lots of Chinese dishes bar. The sphere is great if they allow you on the balcony overlooking City Airport. Great place for bigger gatherings and celebrations as the service is fantastic. Plenty of parking but cost £3 hrs per 2 hrs. Would be great free parking

The crispy duck with lychee and velvet is basically filled with taro, which is so disgusting😭 The steamed salted fish meat pie is almost like steaming the stuffing of mackerel dumplings. The dry-fried beef river is okay.

I even had desert before this dim sum came. The table were a mix match and all over the place. We were sat on a table that was fitting for children as it was so low I could not lean or rest my arm on it. The Decor is old and worn, like you can see a nest of dead flies caught up the fish net. Oh and my partner now has the runs.... so eat at your own risk. If you don't care much for hygiene, give this place a go... I will be heading else where. The only redeeming factor is you get to see planes fly in and out of city airport. Other than that, I will give this place a miss.

We entered having average expectations. Finding a good meal in this area had proved quite hard. The walk-in to the building is unusual, but once you get into the restaurant, everything gets better fast. Service was friendly and sharp as a tack. The speed the order arrives at might suggest the quality was lacking, but this is not the case. They are that good. I am not giving the food 5 stars because it was 4. But the meal was 5 stars. I can think of a hundred restaurants that should send their owners, managers, and staff here to see how it should be done. Highly recommended.

Had lunch on Sunday. Waited for 20 minutes for seats. Only walk in. No reservations unless for people over 8. Quality of Dim Sum are fine. Very nice view with big windows. Service is ok.

Most recent visit: Came here again and in comparison to our first visit, it was much better (might have been due to it not being as busy) However I did get served undercooked chicken. It was taken off the bill, but it has put me off my favourite dish now. Visit 6 months ago: We were a group of 7 wanting to eat after a long day working an event at the Excel. Food came out hot and everyone got their dishes in a reasonable amount of time. Waiter did come out to tell us that 2 of the dishes that were ordered had run out so we said to not worry about them and just make sure they were removed from the final bill. A few of our group had ordered cocktails halfway through the meal which near the end still hadn’t turned up, so we ended up having the table cleared of everything but still waiting on the cocktails. We got them 20 mins after the table was cleared. When the bill came we found that the 2 dishes that didn’t come out due to not being available were still on our bill so we had to wait an additional 10 mins to get that sorted. It was nice to see the planes go by from our table as well, so would will come back again but probably in a small group.

Service excellent and staff couldn't help us enough. The food was 'out of this world' arrived hot to the table and the taste was magnificent. The view is fantastic.. Have booked to return in June 2024 I would recommend highly to anyone thinking of visiting

We have had amazing afternoon in Yi-Ban. We were celebrating my daughter's first communion with her favourite cuisine. I wasn't sure what to expect but with kindness and asking questions whenever you're unsure of anything, was just a thing to make this day extra special. Thank you all for a great day.

Really good dim-sum for the price, and dealt shockingly well with a dietary requirement at our table (shellfish allergy). Clearly told them what dishes they could and couldn’t eat, as well as provided a comprehensive allergy guide in both English and Chinese. Really affordable too compared with anywhere in Chinatown, and if you like airport views then the location isn’t bad at all.

Lovely view as waitress allocated us with a window facing table. Very caring and kind service. I hope the portion size of stir-fry vegetable can be slightly larger to reflect the price we have been charged.

Great place for some homemade dim sum near the airport!

Ok so this place is kind of hit or miss and here is why. They have two menus one for Asian looking people and one for Caucasian looking people. I was given one menu and my boss was given the real menu. They didn’t even ask me. The food was good but we ordered off the Asian menu not the other. The atmosphere was ok. The staff were attentive but this two menu system I don’t care for. I come to a Chinese restaurant for Chinese food not Americanized Chinese food. Bottom line if you go ask for the real Asian menu and you can tell cause it’s twice as big as the other menu.

Avoid. Came here for my sisters birthday and the staff are very rude. Flies all over the restaurant! Service wasn’t great at all. We asked to remove the service charge and they were rude about that too. Then they proceeded to charge us for the containers. Food wasn’t good either
