Yi-Ban - Royal Albert Dock in Newham

This place was very busy so I would recommend booking a place beforehand. The ambience was good, staff were not too friendly (maybe because it was really busy) on the day however the food was really high quality, flavours were authentic and we were soo stuffed we were unable to have desert in the end! We would surely return for the riverside feel and great flavours.

Very high quality fresh food, my particular favourites were the Roast Pork Puff Pastry, Deep Fried Squid, Meat Croquettes, and the Cream Custard Buns. For someone that is rather fussy and particular with texture, I was impressed and love a visit here.

Too busy at peak time. Try late lunch maybe better with service

Like every year we come to eat here, but this year I have something on my mind. We have made reservations 5 times via their website and 5 times you arrive at the restaurant and they don't know anything about it. We always got a table, but something went wrong somewhere. And the toilet is really a disgrace. One smells it heavily from the stairs below. They are dirty, worn out and the walls don't look good either. Please do something about hygiene because I don't dare go to a toilet like that. But otherwise, as always, delicious food and friendly staff.

Best to drive here as bus and docklands rail involves a bit of a walk. Paid parking only but reasonable. Food was good, service needs improvement and atmosphere was lively. Works out about £25-£30 per head at lunchtime. Evenings is more expensive.

Outstanding dim sum! If you're in the area, it's worth the visit: Better Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings) than Din Tai Fung, in my opinion. Short walk from the Excel (less than ten minutes).

My boyfriend and I went here on a date, food was great, service was quick and the staff were kind, and the cocktails were so good, I had an apple martini. I’m coming back on the 8th of next month and will definitely be a long term customer.

I loved the LCY view, quite a unique experience, dining while watching planes taking off and landing. The dim sums were also good, no complaints from me. We spent about £80 for 4 adults and had a sizeable meal!

Food is delicious, can also put requests in for dishes not on menu. Sometimes slightly too oily for my liking and too much salt.

Welcoming atmosphere and a lovely view. Lovely Chinese food that hit the spot, especially in a location that doesn’t have many (if any) great spots to eat, this is a consistent winner to go to!

Interesting location, especially late at night. The Bolt driver was a bit concerned he was bringing us to the wrong place. But don't let that fool you! Great food, large portions, and very quick service. Being right next to the airport and the water creates a great view, but it does get very loud.

My favourite dim sum place... Anywhere. This is a true hidden gem, well worth a special trip to go find. Make sure to have the xiao long bao!

The is okay but not as good as it was 5-7 years ago but then again i suppose it must be the change in food recipie and chefs too . Good Atmosphere good view especially in the summer times as its located besides city airport and service is friendly and okay.

overall it's a fun experience. quirky location best for drivers, overlook city airport. the garlic shrimp and fried squid were terrific, portions are great for sharing amongst 2, and food arrived in less than 5mins!!! the downsides : service was quick to take orders but slow to check in after (waited 15mins to pay). NOTE: dim sum menu is lunchtime only. we felt prices were too high ... £85 for 2 mains, 2 rice (£8 for egg fried rice, no meat???), 1 veg (£16 for pad choi???), 1 tea. no drinking, appetisers or dessert. i see loads of comments on the affordability but would err to say this is a £100 dinner for 2 normal eaters. £200+ for families.

Cracking Chinese. I especially like the Dim-Sum. The food is a lot better than Royal China, and about 2/3 the price.

The day after we ate here we got really ill from food poisoning. Such a shame because we thought the food was really good. The service is quick and efficient. We ordered the set menu, and we suspect it may have been the sweet and sour prawns that did a number on us. We are still ill as I post this.

Be aware there are two different menu is this restaurant- one which has a great selection of dishes and the other which is a reduced menu where the dishes are bland, uncaring and uninspired. We were unfortunately given the bad menu, but the other menu (with a brown cover) had lots of really great looking dishes written in both Chinese and English (bitter melon, eggs three ways, morning glory, crab and clams). Unfortunately we only found out about this menu from other diners after we had finished. In the dum sum selection we had the dumplings had the same filling in almost every one and we had to ask for vinegar, soy sauce and chilli oil, and my cocktail was warm. I think the dim sum service at lunch looks much better. Was excited to go here and left much poorer and very disappointed. Don’t usually write review but I would have liked this information about the two menus before going

I would give 0 stars if I could. Simply for the fact that in 2025 they do not cater to food allergies.they use the same oil all day which is completely unsanitary. If you are vegetarian or have any intolerance don't come here.

Came here for dim sum on a Saturday morning, they open at 11 but there was already a queue of people along the stairs when we walked in just a few minutes before opening time! We managed to be seated in the first sitting, there’s actually a lot of tables inside and you get a river view from all windows. Ordered the standard bunch of dim sums, I was particularly craving black bean chicken claws. Service was prompt, I have no complaints. Got what we ordered, ate and left. There was a small queue when we left so this place does get busy. Parking is right outside, pay and display or via app. There is lift access as well if you’re unable to climb stairs.

The staff were quite nice and brought everything out and put it all on the table neatly and filled our glasses up with water. The food was nice but I thought it was expensive for what it was.

Nice restaurant with linen tablecloths, very attentive servers, and a picture menu so you know what you're getting. I visit every time I fly into London city airport. The restaurant is on the second floor and the entrance is on the parking lot side on the east end of the building.

Recomiendo hacerse con el menú chino (tenía un color diferente), ya que es donde estaban los platos interesantes: una excelente olla de barro de pollo (servida en los huesos, lo que molesta a algunos) y un pescado profusamente especiado. The long queue at opening was a good sign this place was legit! Grumpy waitresses are also a right of passage for a busy dim sum place. The food was great and the view across the water to the LCY airport runway kept our young son fascinated throughout our meal. Be sure to grab a piggy custard bao!

This was a well hidden gem and so glad we found it. We were staying in the Holiday Inn and just a short walking distance away. The staff were so friendly and the food was delicious. My daughter particularly liked it as it was over looking London airport and she could watch the planes landing and taking off while having her food. Would definitely visit again.

Doesn’t open on Sundays due to “private events”. Lady said they “don’t do Internet”. Best to call every time. Food is okay, some dishes good. The view is nice.

Era exactamente lo que esperábamos! La comida era muy sabrosa, bien presentado y salió rápidamente. Era un poco más caro de lo que hubiera esperado, pero en línea con Chinatown en el centro. Hubo una espera de unos 30 minutos, que estaba bien, pero las sillas colocadas en la zona de espera habría sido ideal. El restaurante también era un poco difícil de llegar debido a las obras en curso alrededor de la excelencia y Hilton - no los restaurantes fallan en absoluto, pero algo a tener en cuenta al visitar!

The food is not as good as it used to be, maybe is not made on the same day anymore or the chef have changed. It's a good place to meet up, but be aware that it's quite pricey too!

I've visited Yi Ban Restaurant & Bar twice so far, and it's the only option nearby besides hotel food. You will need to walk up the stairs to find the sign. The Chinese cuisine at the restaurant was impressive, not resembling typical fast food. The takeout vegetables were a bit overcooked for my taste, but the variety pleased me. Most of the staff were great but one didn't come across welcoming. I did need to ask for utensils despite ordering takeaway for the second time and there is only hotels around and hotel rooms don't usually have utensils in the rooms. The steamed pork was a standout, a unique twist, reminiscent of shumai without the wonton skin but with a salty fish kick. It's conveniently located 15-20 minutes from the convention center or a quick 5-minute train ride. Dinner around 8 pm tends to get busy, and the ambiance varies in sound level each visit. They offer dim sum alongside the regular menu, providing a classic Chinese restaurant feel. The staff's ability to speak Cantonese was a plus for language practice. The restaurant offers a view, but its visibility might be covered depending on the time of your visit. This venue accommodates a large group of people for events or gatherings. Overall, I had a positive experience and I recommend trying their big selection of food.

Located in a location uneasy if you do not drive

The price has increased by 20% to 30% compared to last month, but the food is average.

Went as part of a group booking which mentioned there were dietary requirements. I was told very loudly "No, we can't serve you" when I said I was intolerant to gluten. It was unnecessary and blunt. This should have been explained when making the booking or I wouldn't have come. It was mortifying. Do not go here if you have dietary requirements!!!

El personal estaba muy ocupado, pero casi no tenía interés en mí como comensal solo. Es una pena, pero el lugar casi siempre está lleno, así que supongo que debe tener algo a su favor. Pero es muy útil para mí cuando me alojo en el lodge de viaje de enfrente, así que volveré con la esperanza de una mejor experiencia la próxima vez.

I'm genuinely shocked that this place is currently rated as 4.1 on Google reviews... Firstly, you have to pay for parking, no big deal I guess, but then you enter the building and notice that it's incredibly run down, dirty and worn out. On entering the actual "restaurant" I genuinely couldn't tell if I had entered a buffet or an actual restaurant due to the chaos in the main area, and constant noise of plates being thrown around in the kitchen. The food was overpriced, and it all looked and tasted like buffet food, no quality at all. The drinks tasted off, normal coke tasted like diet, and I don't think it was branded as they brought it already poured into the glass, no fizz, no flavour. The first attempt they made at my sweet and sour chicken had a massive hair in it, which the waitress tried to hide by curling it around her finger, hoping we didn't see it. Everything else that was brought out was lukewarm as if it had been sitting out for ages, with some dishes coming out completely cold; again, adding to the buffet vibe…I'm honestly shocked that this place has any customers.

Food took 40mins to arrive and they refused to take off the service charge reporting that it is compulsory as they clear the tables.

Great restaurant! plenty of room, nice soft lighting, quite an elegant decoration and a long balcony for you to view the river. I was here for a family gathering and the food was amazing, the roast pig with the hoisin sauce was on point and the thai style chicken feet was perfect! absolutely amazing dish. We also had lobster, although it wasn't cooked in ginger spring onion the dish was still very good. Along with all the other dishes they were all tasty. If you are going by car remember bring coins or use the parking app to pay for the parking meter.

It was my first time at Yi-Ban, and I particularly enjoyed the duck with orange, though I can't recall the exact name of the dish. It was absolutely delicious! The restaurant also has a fantastic view, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

The food here has always been very good, of this there is no question, but honestly the staff are very curt and cold and give you the impression they would rather you weren't there then have the audacity to charge you the pleasure on the bill. Food arrives at different times which is hardly ideal when your rice dish arrives 15 minutes after the side dishes. The name Yi-ban translates as first class, not quite I'm afraid.

Al llegar, había una fila pero no un sistema claro de cómo proceder (cuando caminas al frente de la fila y esperas lo suficiente, alguien vendrá a darte un boleto con un número. Salen y llaman a los números, pero no lo suficientemente alto para que todos lo oigan, de ahí el gran grupo de personas cerca de la entrada (con la esperanza de ver al gerente salir y llamar a un número). La comida completa para 2 personas y 5 artículos fue de 65 libras (rollos de primavera vegetarianos, fideos de brote de judías, verduras mixtas y 2 pedidos de albóndigas).

I've been looking for a Chinese restaurant close to us after receiving pretty shocking service from our previous regular place on three separate occasions. We don't go there anymore. It was disappointing not having somewhere close by and having to go all the way to Chinatown, but I'm so so happy we've found Yi-Ban now. There was a long queue when we arrived and I was worried we'd be waiting for a while but to my relief, there was a ticketing system and we didn't queue up for long. Our first interaction with the staff was super positive and it carried on until our last interaction with them. The food was amaaaazing too and the staff were so kind and accommodating to my two little kids. The scenery was great and I loved the atmosphere too. I'll be back with my husband who I know would absolutely love it too. Thank you Yi-Ban for the unforgettable experience, you've earned a loyal customer (and her family too!). Keep up the excellent work!

Been back after a long time , ordered ginger beef with rice and a small bottle of beer , paid £30! Taste same as any Chinese take away, just ok. Beer is overpriced of course, poor value for the price I paid.

Our cousin took us to Yi-Ban, a Chinese restaurant near London City Airport, where you can watch planes taking off and landing right from your table! There’s a parking lot available, but you do have to pay a fee. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food arrived quickly—and it was delicious! After dinner, we took a short walk around the area to stretch our legs.

This reminded me of a real Hong Kong YamCha place. Yet the prices are a bit high.

Table for 6, managed as a walk in early lunch on a Sunday with less than 10 minutes wait. Restaurant was very busy already, so expect to have to take a ticket to que. Quite noisy inside. Service is light-speed. If you have to catch staffs attention, be big and bold with your hand up! Food is very good. Service efficient and fast. Clean and tidy from what I saw. Recommended.

I came here once two years ago, and I remember the food was quite delicious, so I brought some friends here to eat this time, but all the dishes were super salty and hard to eat. Forget it, after all, everyone’s taste is different. Maybe the taste of everyone at our table is too bland? But the thing that most affects my mood is not that the food is too salty, but that there is a middle-aged waitress with long hair who really has a poor service attitude. I know you are very busy and hard, so if you are just expressionless, it is understandable. After all, it is just It's not funny to bring a plate and a dish, but your very impatient expression and attitude really make the people who came to eat in high spirits very unhappy and make them feel bad even after eating. This time I came, I thought she had left, but she was still there, with the same super impatient expression and attitude (we didn’t rush her at all), which made me immediately recognize her as the spoiler sister two years ago! ! ! It's really impressive. I've been eating out in restaurants for more than ten years, and this is the first time I've seen such a waiter in a restaurant. We are all Chinese overseas. It is not easy to do business. I really don’t want to embarrass the Chinese, but this is really bad. I don’t easily Google reviews, but it’s so bad that I can’t help it.

Too basic for how much they charge. Hidden charges are ridiculous. A waiter was shredding a duck I purchased whiles talking over it. If this is done next to my table then you can guess what’s done away from view. Never again.

This restaurant is worth spending time to come here. Variety of Dim Sum and favorite chinese style dishes is served. Overlooking the London city airport and plenty of parking space.

Got scammed. Travelled an hour just to try this restaurant but they were closed for some wedding. Information not updated on either Google or website. Scam!

Visited just as the main lunchtime period was coming to an end so still busy but staff were not rushed. Ordered off the full menu rather than having Dim Sum and all the food was hot and fresh with great flavours. The views from the restaurant across the Royal Albert Dock towards London City Airport provide an interesting distraction with plenty of activity to watch at the airport although the waters of the Dock were quiet at the time of the visit. We travelled by public transport with the restaurant in easy walking distance of 2 DLR stations are several bus-stops on a number of different routes.

I loved this place first few times. However went last night and was really put off by the filthy bathroom. They didn’t have certain dishes and I’d love to sneak peek into the kitchen to see how clean that is.

My absolute favourite spot to eat at. I come here at least once a month with my partner. We recently had a large family function for a 30th Birthday and the staff here were more than accommodating of our needs - many folx had dietary requirements but the range of food on the menu was perfect so everyone was catered for from the meat eaters to halal eaters to vegans. We booked in advance to ensure everything went smoothly. Staff were super friendly all night and service was top tier as always. Would always come back for more! I know 6 people had food poisoning after eating here. Sadly it caused him to miss his university final exams and he has to wait for 1yr before university will offer this exam again

Excellent food and very good customer service

I always love coming here for dim sum with the family. There's pay and display parking, step free access for those who need it, and the food and service is always good. The only downside is that the interior can do with some updating, and it can also be a bit loud during when it's a full house. Other than that, I would come here again and definitely recommend this restaurant for good and authentic Chinese cuisine.

Food was superb. Service was fast and attentive. The Malaysian Chinese waiter gave us advice on the roast duck order and we made a right decision.
