Came as part of a group of approx 17. We had pre booked for a Christmas meal, and had also given our meal choices ahead of time. The service was terrible/slow in the extreme (As in we were waiting over 1.5 hours between starters and mains - we had booked for a 2pm lunch, our mains came out at 4.30pm). Some dishes were missed, one pre- booked dish they didn't have. The food came out somewhere between completely cold and lukewarm. Unsurprising really when we were told they were plating 45 mins before the dishes started arriving. Some of us had finished before others even had their food on every single course. Even dessert took 20 minutes to arrive after we were told they were ready and on their way. Nothing was particularly tasty either to make the wait worthwhile. Awarding 2 stars as opposed to 1 as the manager(?) didn't charge us full price as we were so unhappy with our experience.

Was on holiday & went for an evening meal . We all had a whitebait starter. When it came out it only consisted of 3 pieces on some lettuce which was very disappointing. We then had a long wait for our main & we were the only ones eating. However our barmaid / waitress was very friendly

We booked the Yew Tree last minute, they were very accommodating and fit 7 of us in. From start to finish the staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble for them. They took our drinks orders straight away and followed this by our food orders. The food was absolutely amazing and so much of it, the beef was perfectly cooked and was so tender, a variation of vegetables, a huge homemade Yorkshire pudding and as much gravy as you required. Will definitely return to such a great place. Well done again to the staff.

We visited here for a family Sunday dinner and we was not disappointed from the moment we walked in we was greeted with friendly smiles and happy staff who kindly showed us our table, took our drinks and explained to us all the important information we needed - all staff was outstanding, ensuring we was happy, had drinks and nothing was ever too much to ask for. Especially thank you to Carly, Fred and Matt who was brilliant with our little boy, always checking on us and asking if they could get us anything else! 5* customer service!! We had garlic mushrooms for starter and these was delicious!! Followed by the AMAZING roast dinner! This is the best roast beef dinner we have ever eaten. Served and Cooked to perfection with melting in your mouth meat, really good portion sizes, variety of veggies, topped with homemade Yorkshire pudding and the gravy is gorgeous! Half way through we got asked if everything was ok, did we need anything and if we wanted anymore gravy - it really is all these little extra bits that the staff go above and beyond for to make sure everything is perfect. Thank you for a fabulous roast dinner, we will definitely be back! It really is a derbyshire hidden gem; definitely worth a visit!!

Table booked for 6 for Sunday lunch. After a wait for our drinks order to be taken & another long wait for the drinks to arrive, we waited again for our meal orders to be taken too. Then another incredibly long wait for our meals to arrive!! No apology! Apart from the Turkey, which was lovely, the pies had very little chicken in them (3-4 pieces in each pie with lots of sauce) The gammon was bland. The honeycomb sundae was minus the honeycomb, apart from a sprinkling on top. The two chocolate fudge cakes arrived with jugs of cream instead of the ordered ice cream. There was a wait while the cream went back & the ice cream arrived, it did come with an apology. The custard that came with the crumble was really thin, the consistency of hot cream!! I told the server who just said, Sorry about that!!! In between us arriving & waiting ….& waiting, another family at a table nearby arrived, ordered, ate & left!!! We were still waiting!! An extremely long ( two & a half hours!!!) disappointing lunch…..& not even a thank you as we left! Sorry Yew Tree! We won’t be returning!!

We were visiting heritage wood and booked a table for 1pm,, we arrived on time and showed to our table, a waitress came to see what drinks we wanted, before we even sat down, so asked her to wait a bit,, then we were sat for about 20 mins before she came back, even some guests who arrived after us got served first, once we'd ordered, we had to wait again for our meals, after the mains, again, had to wait and had to ask about puddings,, some of us wanted puddings and a waitress bought the napkins and they were just put on the table, not set tidily, we left after 3 45pm, so it was a very long lunch,

Booked a table for Sunday lunch. We’d driven past a few times since moving to the area and it looked nice, but only recently had chance to try it out due to the Covid restrictions. Heard good reviews about the food and location.Ednaston is a quiet, idyllic hamlet in the Derbyshire Dale’s, close by to Brailsford and Shirley. So as you can imagine, we were expecting a synergistic, quaint countryside pub. On the approach, there’s promise of baroque rurality, nicely situated on a quiet lane with plenty of outdoor seating. Almost a classic English pub setting. When we pulled into the car park I have to say I couldn’t have been more wrong. A DJ, at 2 o’clock on a Sunday afternoon blasting house music. We tried to locate our table and asked a member of staff, she gave the impression she was a manager but I could be mistaken. Either way she couldn’t recollect our booking but found us a table right next to the speakers. Not exactly the setting for a relaxing lunch and drinks. Needless to say we left straight away. The atmosphere really surprised us. Maybe we went on a bad day? This is even pictured pride of place in the parish newsletters and “Keep Brailsford and Ednaston Beautiful” flyers. It obviously holds some cultural significance in the area and maybe the new owner and managers are trying some niche gentrification tactic, but wow, what an absolute shame. I’d give it zero if I could.

Only stay here if you are looking for a roof over your head as opposed to tent!Advise you to ask to see the room before you pay for it as you will be asked for payment on arrival, our biggest mistake especially as it was 2 rooms for more than a couple of nights!!No cooked breakfasts, however help yourself tp free small cereal variety boxes, pre-packed filled croissants, milk, bowls and spoons which will by main entrance to the lodge to self collect!! Also advise not to stay more than a night unless you don't mind returning to the room the same way you left it, use the same damp towels you used earlier, and the same dirty cups for free tea (tea bags not packed or sealed) or coffee you helped yourself to earlier, that's if you are lucky enough to have any of these extra as these had not been replenished either! In short no one other than yourselves will enter, exit or clean your room until after you have left your key somewhere where the owners can find it, as you'll be lucky to find anyone to hand it to or ask you "how was your stay?".... so that's why they asked for payment upfront!!Also fine if you don't mind stained carpets and bathroom floors, leaking taps, low pressure showers with mouldy curtains, dated decor, paper thin curtains/walls/ceilings/floors and hugely uncomfortable beds, then ditch that tent and enjoy!!!Not for my family of 5, apologising to them constantly for 3 days for being optimistic was well received but shouldn't have been necessary, and i most certainly would not recommend anyone to stay here!Food might be nice in the adjoining pub, but we didn't get to try any, perhaps the chef didn't work any of the days we stayed for, I don't know?!The star is awarded for location, easy to reach major towns and close by attractions, if you tiptoe in the ample car park you can see the glorious countryside, and you don't have very far to go if you'd rather stay elsewhere

We needed to find a place to stay en route to our holiday destination and came across The Yew Tree Inn, perfectly placed at the edge of the Peak District. We wanted somewhere budget and clean just to lay our heads for the night. We were pleasantly surprised that, for the price, we found a quaint inn with lots of charm. The room was very clean and quiet in the adjoining lodges and the inn was really charismatic. We had our evening meal there and it was of a fine restaurant standard, good menu and really tasty. They have a wood fired pizza oven for really yummy pizzas. Really cannot fault the residence and would definitely, definitely stay here again. The only reason I gave four stars and not five was because the service was very relaxed and we had to go up to the bar to ask for a dessert menu and again for the bill, in the evening. Then we had to go looking for staff after a long wait to order breakfast. Apart from that absolutely fabulous.

1st visit after re-opening , we were regulars as the pizzas were great . First impressions were good seemed to have had a makeover however after viewing the menu prices had gone up . I placed an order for 2 pizzas and two sides of chips , both pizzas were black underneath and tasted of charcoal ,chips were rock hard .Having told the waitress who didn't offer us any salt or pepper or sauces during the meal how poor the pizzas were the response was "that's a shame" having handed here a full pizza back as this was not edible . The place wasn't busy at all which was a surprise for a Saturday afternoon . Unfortunately I won't be in a hurry to return such a shame as this was a great little pit stop previously .

Other members of our family all enjoyed there meals too. The lodge bedroom was an ok size (we had the family one) with TV, fridge, kettle etc all in. The fridge had water, apple juice, waffles, and croissants in as this is your breakfast. Also some biscuits for a late tea :). There is also porridge, cereals, milk in a fridge at the entrance. The Yew tree inn was extremely busy during my Friday night dinner outing with friends. From the outside It looks like your typical country pub but the inside tells a different story. The “restaurant” if you could call it that was covered with old square wooden tables. The Dirty Carpet floor is illuminated by large fake candle lights and the same kind of lamps my grandma used to have in her conservatory. Several of which had blown bulbs that only adds to the unkempt atmosphere of this dingy place. It try’s so hard to be, earthy with a mix of wood and stone, brown and grey but all of this only adds to the dirty feel of the place. Our waitress tried to take our order seconds after seating us – we hadn’t even opened the menu yet. We asked for some time, but she disappeared and stayed away far too long. When she returned, she lacked confidence and couldn’t answer any of our questions. Also Each time we tried to order food or a drink refill – or even to get the bill – we also have to make a significant effort to track our waitress down. This was frustrating, to say the least.Whilst waiting for our food I was watching the kitchen, where the pizzas were being prepared and cooked. As I watched I noticed the waitress who had just taken our order start to put toppings onto recently cooked pizza, placing her hands into the pre prepared toppings with no gloves, she continued to do this, in between taking orders and handling bills and credit cards, and not once did she wash her hands. After watching this it put me off the food when it arrived. After the poor service we received I expected the food to at least be on the good side if not great. As expected (and in keeping with the theme of the establishment) the pizza was TERRIBLE. Absolutely everything was wrong with it, from the consistency of the crust, to the cheese (some cheese mix, the waiter couldn't even tell me what cheese it was). To top it all off my friend ordered a Mediterranean pizza that had someone’s bodily hair in it, also my cousin who is a chef noticed that this pizza had peas and carrots in it. This seems odd as my cousin went on to explain this is not the kind of thing you would tend to find in Mediterranean cuisine. My friend ordered a Mediterranean pizza, not a vegetable pizza, but it seems along with the décor and poor staffing they also can’t even seem to get the cooking right. All in all, it is expensive for what you get, they seem to use cheap ingredients and the service is very poor. I would recommend giving this pub a miss and trying the 3 horse shoes down the road. At least then you will get the 5-star dining experience you are paying for.

Stayed just 1 night but the quality and comfort shine through. Well appointed rooms and very clean. Flat screen f/view, small fridge and lots of drinks making facilities. No cooked breakfast :¬( but you do get access to cereals, cookies and croissant 'thingies'! The pub itself is great with lots of choices of real ales etc and the food is outstanding. Would go again!!

Having read about this and other pubs in the area in the guest book in our cottage rental, we also checked the reviews on here and all are spot on.A lovely looking pub (outside and in), friendly bar staff and waiting staff. Our food arrived and what a treat... large portions of Linguini, beefburger, spag-bol and lasagne, very well presented and very very tasty. Unfortunately no apple crumble but there was cherry crumble... delicious. The chocolate sponge and cream was a very large portion and again delicious. Will be trying other pubs in the area during the week, the week is off to a brilliant start.

We recently stayed here for five nights and had a great experience throughout. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, with plentiful hot water for showering and a fridge so there was always real milk available for hot drinks. By the second night we decided that we would eat in the restaurant all week, because the food was so good and there was plenty of variety to choose from e.g. gammon, sea bass, steak, sausages, pizza. Everything we ordered was very enjoyable. The staff all share a warm, friendly and helpful attitude that makes you feel content and relaxed. Their service was excellent. Also the pricing of the room, menu and drinks all provided truly excellent value for money. This is an absolutely great place to stay. I would give it six stars for value if I could.

Very good value for money as we are a big family and needed two rooms. Clean orderly and lots of goodies plus they had a small 15" X 15" fridge. Lovely welcome and good location for us to go to Alton Towers. I will definitely book again.

We were looking for somewhere to stay for a couple of nights while visiting Alton Towers with our 3 children, resort hotels seemed very expensive, then we found Yew Tree In. After a few minutes searching, glad we did. Chris and all his staff were very welcoming and friendly from the minute we arrived, great rooms, comfy beds, too comfy it seemed this morning, we had the choice of either going out somewhere to eat but chose to eat at the pub, glad we did, great food at reasonable prices and nothing any trouble, the beer is great too! Thanks for making our stay an enjoyable one, if and when we come back this way, we'll be sure to look you up.

This is our go to pub for lunch or early evening meal.It is close to home and always provides a warm welcome and tasty food. Lunch is only served Friday-Sunday but evening meals are available all week. Proper Sunday lunch roast on Sunday and pizza menu Sunday evening. The menu is varied, well cooked and nicely presented. Favorites of ours are chicken and bacon salad, chilli and spag.bol. The chips are THE BEST in the region. Rooms are now available housed in a separate building. I understand these are proving popular but cannot revue here as I have not used them.

Wonderfully friendly and the pub is lovely with great food. We had room 1 which was nice and large but the bathroom is a bit dated but at £50 amazing value for money. The help your self continental breakfast may not be posh enough for everyone but we loved it.

Great homemade food & considering it is all made to demand the wait time was so little. Would totally recommend the homemade pie which was full to the brim and had massive chunks of meat in it. Excellent value for money. Oh and the chocolate fudge cake was to die for!!!

We stopped in for a bite to eat after hearing that it was under new ownership. After being faithful patrons off the pub with the original owners and being greatly disappointed with the(as then) new owners i was, to say the least, very sceptical that these new owners would ever get the place back to how it was........ i am very pleased to say i was wrong.A very warm welcome was received when we walked in making us feel very relaxed, the staff were very attentive but not intrusive, we decided on a pizza each from the wood fired pizza oven they were excellent.in conclusionFood 10/10Staff 10/10Welcome 10/10Atmosphere 10/1oWell done to the new owners and staff, keep it up and we will see you again very soon.

Had a lovely pie at The Yew Tree. Freshly made with shortcrust pastry which was delicious and filled with chicken, mushroom and leeks. Vegetables were a change from the usual and the chips were homemade and hot and crispy. My partner had the gammon steak which was thick and tasty. Very good service and traditional decor. Lovely place.

For the amount we paid £18 per person in a twin room it wasn't all that bad. The rooms were a little shabby, walls extremely thin i was up all night with banging doors and children running around, perhaps maybe locate your families on the lower level? The noise from the pub next door did disturb us but they were only having a good time i guess. If you are going to book, try to get a room away from the front of the pub. Our check in was a little strange (young lady behind the bar) however a lovely lady helped us in the door explained breakfast and told us to come and try the menu out next door- so we did we arrived at 7.05pm and was told that they are only serving pizzas?! They looked and smelt gorgeous shame we didn't stick around for one. I would enquire before planning dinner arrangements. For the money i would stay again should i need a cheap local place to stay.....

We've recently got back from our 2 night stay over easter, at the Yew Tree Inn & Lodges. I'll keep it short...Pros:Staff were brilliant. Helpful & friendly. Pub food was great, can't fault it. Pub itself was cosy, and full of character (also very dog friendly)Cons:Room was large, but VERY basic, mainly the bathroom. Shower was awful. There was literally more power in the taps. And it was tiny!I was expecting a half decent breakfast. All it was, was the complimentary croissants and juice in the mini fridge next to the bed, and a handful of cereals.Walls were extremely thin. We got kept up both nights by an very inconsiderate family above us having their TV on full blast, and their kids jumping around nonstop! All in all, it was OK for £25 a night. Within driving distance to some decent walks. Good if you just need somewhere to crash. We'd probably pay a little more next time for somewhere a bit better.

Visited last Friday and what a fabulous place this is. From arriving, just before 9 pm when food finishes serving, they were only too accommodating when I asked if I could order a pizza. This was shared and very much enjoyed by four of us. The staff were so friendly and offered to bring our drinks to the table. I enquired about Sunday dinners and a menu was brought over. Everything on it looks delightful. This place has a lovely ambiance and I will definitely be returning. Thanks for a great night!

We don't live far away but had never visited until this week. We were recommended the pub due to the landlord offering an outside bar that we were interested in for our wedding. The pub and staff were lovely, the food fabulous and all the other diners/drinkers we met were also friendly which made for a lovely evening. We'll be back and not just to discuss details for the wedding. Could not have asked for more.

The worst experience food in my life, bad service and really bad food, bad service too… burger was impossible to eat and probably cook just in microwave, vegetables really cold… No one was coming and asking nothing while we eating, just after the bill asking how was the food… Then try apologize and offer free drinks but already paid, anyway be away… Never again

After a small family gathering up at Heritage Wood on Sunday 11th October we booked the Yew Tree for Sunday lunch for 10 - I felt that it would have been rude not to write a review praising every aspect of our time in the Yew Tree Inn. We had pre ordered some bubbles which were well chilled and ready to be served on trays as we arrived, we had specifically asked to be seated in the Kitchen Bar which had been set out very nicely for our group enabling us to sit and enjoy our bubbles without feeling rushed to eat - when the food was served it was absolutely delicious, the portion size was generous, the food at perfect temperature and our group of 10 thoroughly enjoyed every course with high praise from all - the service was attentive but not intrusive and all in all what was an emotional day for the family was turned into a happy celebration by our experience at the Yew Tree - it's always difficult for pubs, inns and restaurants to get things right to suit everyone however the food is excellent value for money (please pass on our praise to the chef) and I can honestly say 10 people went away feeling very content and without doubt we will be visiting again.......

The timings weren’t great as they were unorganised, they do not understand and speak fluent English and therefore can be difficult to understand at times, however the food was amazing and the whole restaurant and cooking area was clean.
