Yangtze Express in North West Leicestershire

My Chinese partner gives it the stamp of approval for the price so that's a good a review as any. I've been going since I was a kid and I enjoy it every time. Quick service and an easy lunch time meal, good for a break from shopping. We got the large box to share between the two of us and it was more than enough.

Price has gone up so much, portion sizes have got smaller and quality of the food is horrible now ! Used to be one out favourite places but will not be returning, the food has no flavour

Main man at the till (middle ages Asian man) was incredibly rude when ordering on the over complicated menu. After getting the food and tasting it we were repulsed after 1 bit and had to leave the rest. The food was mostly bland apart from a vomit enduring after-taste. Will definitely be avoiding this place in future, and I suggest you do the same.

Go for the large box and you’ll easily get enough food to last 2 meals. This is my favourite tasting Chinese place to go too and have been going for years… I will say the portion control for the meat items has gotten really tight while they give you LOADS of rice,noodles or chips and the price has got higher but if you get the large and ask for extra curry sauce it’ll be better overall value.

Bought the 3 item box for £7 ish was a load of rubbish had Sweet and sour chicken got 2 piece of chicken huge pile of onions Salt and pepper chicken no taste and approx 6 very small pieces Chicken fillet got one piece what happened to the nice portions???? price has gone up Massively and portions so small My sons were also so disappointed with there dish I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AND WONT RETURN EVER We use to look forward to visiting Meadowhall for this restaurant no more 😢

Called in with family while in town. 5 quid for 3 choices. I had rice, beef in black bean sauce and salt and pepper chicken. Enjoyed it all. Quick service and good value for money.

I visited Yangtze on 31/7/20 and ordered a large meal box. The cost of this was £7.50. The large box allows you to select 5 items off a huge list. You can see all the food upfront of you so if you'd rather just ask and point that is fine and sometimes the best way if you think something looks particularly nice. I opted for vegetable noodles, egg fried rice, caramel chicken, salt and pepper chicken, beef in black bean sauce and sweet and sour sauce. The food was perfectly fresh and it was a very good size portion, perfect for the larger appetite. The noodles tasted very nice, the beef in black bean sauce was lovely but if this review was based on the salt and pepper chicken alone it would of been a 5 star review... absolutely beautiful. The caramel chicken was cooked perfectly however I hated the taste of it. I won't knock these down for this as that's my personal taste and I don't usually order this item I was just intrigued. The egg fried rice was slightly over cooked and congield however don't let this put you off, very, very nice food.

A COMPLETE AND UTTER RIP OFF. The (devious) female front of house serving staff don't give two hoots about what constitutes good customer service. The prices are expensive for what you pay for the different sized boxes. The food is always the same day in day out and quite frankly its bland as all hell. And you don't get the food laden on in the boxes like you used too. You should consider yourself lucky if your box gets even half filled with food.

I ate here today for the first time in years and my god have the portions shrunk. I went for the medium tray since you pay £1 more for 1 more item to get a large which seems cheeky and I can't say I'll be coming back. It used to be that you would get a bit of everything, today I simply got a bit of rice, some noodles, few scabby bits of chicken and some chicken curry. Really not worth the price

I used to eat here regularly as a food store of preference on my shopping sprees. That has changed over the last year due to the absurdity of their portions. I used to get 2 to 2.5x more food on my box a year ago than I do now, the best thing is that it also used to cost me less than it does today. On a regular box today you'll get 3 pieces of whatever meat you choose (4 on a good day), a load of onions, chips or rice and the rest is sauce. Thank God for the German Kebab store that has opened this year, I will not be surprised if they kill Yangtzes business or force them to remodel it and listen to the unhappy customers. Avoid if you want value for your money.

Can not believe how small the portion was !!! Don't bother spend your money at the other outlets . Hit them at till and perhaps they will give decent portions.

Their portioning has got real bad over the past few months like they're rationing. Medium box is like a small.

The salt an pepper chicken is a madness but only when it’s Crispy can’t be having none of that soft Foods

decided to give Yangtze a try. very pleasantly surprised. I like sweet n sour chicken, so, had this as 1 of my choices. can say without hesitation you pay more from takeaways outside and they are nowhere near the quality. Highly recommended to anyone visiting meadowhall oasis. not using takeaways anymore unless they can up their game and "stop" pushing their prices up for inferior quality food.

Having visited this eating place for a number of years, the service and food has been on a steady decline in recent months. Our visit on Saturday was certainly our last. The staff seem to think it is acceptable to bulk up your meal with rice, noodles or chips, the curries are bulked up by under cooked onions and you are served very little meat. If you question that you get so little of the meat you are ignored or at best a shrug of their shoulders. The larger £7 box used to be great value for money, they do not even fill it to two thirds full anymore. £7 is far too much to pay for a bunch of carbs and onion with less than 10 pieces of meat. I hate to complain publicly about a business and always believe you should address issues directly with the business ; we have and they have been unwilling to do anything about the issues raised hence my review today.

Found long black hair in my food. Went back up to the counter to complain, staff weren’t bothered one bit. I think the manager wasn’t bothered either.

Spotted this place in Intu Derby. We both had 'a bit of everything' and it didn't disappoint and actually couldn't finish it,definitely go again.

Had a £5 small box where you can pick 3 items. Chose egg fried rice, a beef dish and salt & pepper chicken, all topped with curry sauce.

Have eaten food from this place many times over last two years. Every time food is good quality, large portions, fair price and enough types of food to choose from. Only thing to improve on is plastic knife/fork very weak and perhaps paper napkin with meal.

This was the worst food I have ever eaten. It made me feel physically ill. The chips were dry and cold. The chicken balls were absolutely vile. I’m not sure it was even chicken. Would never ever eat here again. Disgusting

The food here is dreadful! I opted for ‘box b’ which seemed like a good idea at the time until it came to actually eating the food. The chicken balls and katsu chicken were merely bland and unacceptably tasteless. The rice and chips were colder than a winter morning as well as having very minimal taste. I will definitely not be returning here, especially with how the staff were acting like they were in prison, serving prison food by just slapping the food in the box. Shambles.

Food mediocre at best, my chicken in black epper sauce contained no chicken at all. Service was dreadful the man was so rude completely uninterested you in serving me ignored what I was asking for kept looking around him you've full would never go back and would've said forget it if hadn't already paid.

I am not one to usually complain however this food was so appalling I don't know how the owner had the neck to serve it. You might consider this sour grapes however in my defence I had the most wonderful Yangtse food at Meadowhall only a week ago and was really looking forward to a repeat of what was a very positive experience at great prices.

Been here a few times now and every time it's still the same, very nice food at good value for price, we can't seem to try anywhere else it's just too good, keep up the good work Yangtze

Very easy ordering process: small box (3 items) medium box (4 items) large box (5 items). I ordered a small box which was very filling and drinks are only a £1 good value!!

Tasted good but the plastic knifes and forks they gave us are so bad we had to get new ones from subway, please sort it out. Also, It's possible my friend could have got food poisoning from your chicken balls, but we are not 100% sure of that.

Ate here on 27/10/2017 & then came back to Derby to have it again this month (March 2018). What a fantastic meal it was. Opted for the express box both times which enabled you to have a bit of everything they had out (this was around £6 something, I can't remember exactly). The box was a nice size and they definitely made sure I had a generous portion of each option available. The food itself was spot on. Amazing chicken, noodles, beef and so much more that was all cooked to perfection and tasted great. We had planned to go out for dinner later in the day but after having this we couldn't eat anymore for the rest of our time in Derby as it was so filling. You most certainly get your moneys worth here. I'll definitely be coming to eat at Yangtze Express again but I'm hoping they open one up in Leicester as I'd love to have a local!

The food here is good. They have kept the format really simple so they can concentrate on getting a small number of dishes to a good standard, whilst keeping the cost down.

best Chinese in derby, by far! The staff are brilliant, the food tastes amazing and it isn't that much to pay considering how large the portions are! My favourite combo is noodles, egg fried rice, chips and chicken balls with a large spoon of sweet and sour sauce on top of it! would strongly recommend!

Eat central derby must go! Absolutely delicious food served as a huge portion size. A choice between a three/four item or fill a box. The four item it probably the best choice for value. Fave option is noodles, chicken curry, Chili chicken and chicken balls all slobbered in more curry sauce. Definitely my favourite place in Intu Derby for food. He staff are lovely, food is always fresh. Honestly cannot fault it. Cannot wait for my next trip, hungry already!

We went to the Yangtze Express again yesterday for lunch.

My family visited the derby intu centre and I decided to have Chineese. It was £4.80 for a small box but well worth the money! The food was hot and really tasty Will definitely be eating here again

Food looked ok..fair quantity in box.. But no taste..very disapointed in a top class centre to get this served up...i would have preferred smaller portions better cooked..

Beef is chewy and the rice is like rice pudding. Chicken is stringy. The onion is in such large chunks it isnt edible. This place used to be great!

Went to Yangtze express last Sunday with my children and ordered 2 box C express meals and 1 children meal with chicken balls and fries. The express box C is just too much and although the food is tasty, nicely cooked and not too spicy for my taste the big melting pot of food doesnt really allow to taste each individual food properly as everything get mixed up ! Didn't really like the chicken balls, neither my son did. Will go back though and try different options,

I like to try different outlets rather than sticking with the well known chains but this time I wish I stuck to what I knew. The food was so bland and the noodles didn't taste right. I won't be returning and would advise others to try something else here.

always go here for lunch when visiting/shopping. Great value, excellent food, good prices. Never been disappointed. Always leave with a full tummy and a smile.

Yangtze Express in the Intu Shopping Centre, serve good tasty chinese food.They use fresh ingrediants from local sources too.Dishes include fried rice crispy seaweed, spring rolls prawn crackers etc.You can choose what you want from many dishes at one time, good value.

The Yangtze Express in the Intu shopping centre in Derby is one if the best value meals you can get.I've been there numerous times and it never fails to impress me or my wife.Why queue for some processed rubbish when you can get this type of food.Absolutely superb and totally recommended

I was going to title my review ' the dogs doodahs' but thought better of it as it may mislead some folk....... This is our fave place for lunch when we're in the city. 3 item box is plenty big enough. Love love love the chilli chicken. Choice doesn't differ much from day to day but that's good as you know what you're getting.
