Wong Kwei in North West Leicestershire

We came here on Friday 25th October for my sisters 18th birthday meal there was 15 of us upstairs. I wanted to write and say what a fantastic experience we had I’m so glad I chose Wong KWEI. We had a couple in the group with severe ADHD, and on a couple of occasions it got a little heated. We struggle to go out to dinner because of this as a family but wow the staff were incredible. So professional, they handled the situation fantastically. There was a lot of different tabs but the drinks and food all came on time there was no errors. The food was amazing!!!! But it was the young waiter. A male dark hair, he really made the experience, he couldn’t do enough for us, he didn’t make us feel uncomfortable when the children were playing up. Overall he made what is usually a stressful situation for us really wonderful so thankyou very much 🙂

Absolutely astonishing!! It was the best chinese food we have ever had. We have never had such a fresh, tasting, beautiful meal. Ordered online ready within 15 minutes for collection. We stopped having chinese for a long time due to other places around melbourne Derby area being so greasy poor quality in food. We thought we would take a risk, and my gosh, it was worth it!!!

Disappointing. Odd tang to food. Poor choice of vegetarian meals. Only two type of noodle, vermicelli or udom with extra cost for alternative. Hand drier in Ladies did not work, mentioned to Madam with response 'it sometimes does not work' no alternative but loo roll! Has not worked properly for weeks.

Disappointing. Poor vegetarian choice, then with very limited vegetables. Only vermicelli or udom (very thin or very thick) noodles with extra charge if exchanged within menu choice. Odd tang. Hand drier didn't work in Ladies, (loo roll only alternative) when mentioned was told 'doesn't always work'. Hasn't for weeks!

Lovely food, fantastic service and reasonable price. Couldn't fault it at all, thanks.

Two friends and myself went along Tuesday the 9th of July we got there a couple of minutes after they opened and thought we may have to wait a while but was all good Draft beer was served perfectly the starters where out fast and the duck was amazing we were given time to digest before the main meals came that was good as sometimes you can feel a little rushed mains came and were just amazing Thanks for a lovely evening

Had our first takeaway from here at the weekend and the food was amazing, quick delivery and the food was hot. Will definitely be ordering again.

Had to question if the fillet steak was actually fillet in the Cantonese beef as it was chewy. Amazing flavours though.

Collection of order. Items missing and food quality was sub par. Shame as haven't ordered for a long time and remember food was amazing but this time was awful and definitely the last time.

Not great - dried out sweet n sour crispy chicken and egg fried rice clogged up. Feels like it as reheated left overs.

Normally order from dragon i measham, unfortunately closed on a Monday ordered by phone for delivery lady on the phone very polite and knowledgeable. Delivery was extremely quick but the big but the food is bland very bland would not order again would rather have to wait a day until the dragon I is open

Lovely little place in Ashby town, staff very attentive and speedy delivery to table of each course we ordered. Food was piping hot and really tasty. We’ll definitely come here again and can recommend it.

What a fantastic restaurant with very helpful and friendly staff. Great prices on food and drinks. The food was very good with large portions. The staff was polite and quick with any requests. Did book for a Saturday evening and glad we did , can't wait to go back !

Ordered 4 dishes, sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style, shredded chilli beef, chicken chow mein and egg fried rice. Dishes were absolutely delicious except for the egg fried rice which wasn’t to my taste (bland and more like boiled rice with egg in). Service was quick and they followed dietary restrictions well (no onions). Images show containers after plating a service but we’re very full when they arrived.

Very disappointed after spending £30+ on a delivery and it was rubbish, no taste at all in the prawns no salt or chilli at Al in the dish, satay chicken was no flavour, runny water sauce and just full of peppers and rubber pieces of chicken! Very very poor!

Food is great with lots of choice and the staff are all very nice.

Poor managerial skills girl who calls her self a manager is a laugh....food is warmed up from left overs second time on the trot food is really poor avoid is a must....better food else where...

After looking for the highest rated takeaways this came up for our group. And either there is a different chef or their quality has massively declined. While most of the takeaway was edible at best, the lemon chicken could only be described as an affront to the chicken that gave its life for that meal, and an insult to lemons worldwide. It was genuinely inedible, multiple guests gagged, and we had to throw it away. So be warned, on Friday night this takeaway was at its very best edible.

Lovely Chinese restaurant, very polite staff and very clean too. I had a house special fried rice which was full of lovely fresh ingredients. The bar is well stocked, and there is also tea and coffee served. There is plenty of parking at the rear of the restaurant. Really enjoyed, would recommend.

Waited 2 hours 40 minutes for delivery

Very enjoyable food with good service: no complaints here. My issue is that the tables are too close together giving a rather cramped feeling which is at odds with the food quality. This is a shame. If you like Chinese food I would recommend but, if like me, you are a large Rugby forward be aware you will be short of space!

My wife and I came in after visiting the local ruined castle. The atmosphere is good. The service is good. Since we love to eat food from different nations, the food was ordered Chinese. Prepared deliciously. If my wife and I are in this town again, we will definitely come back again.

Best in the area, quality and service.

First time here, after reading all the good reviews, thought would give it a try. The staff were friendly, the food was not that good, I'd described it as edible, and lacked in flavour. Would definitely not go again.

Standard of the food wasn't great. No particular dish was worthy of complaining about but each member of our party were underwhelmed. Very expensive for what turned out to be very average food.

Booked for a collection via online on New Years. Granted it’s new years so was expecting a long wait. Stated online the wait would be over an hour to collect. No problem with this what so ever. Went to collect at the allocated time of 7:45pm after ordering at 6pm to be told it wouldn’t be ready until 8:30 as the system was giving out the wrong collection times. A bit miffed but understood as it was busy. Went back at 8:30pm to be told it still wasn’t ready and would be another 20 minutes. Ended up cancelling the order absolute waste of time. Will not be bothering to use again due to this.

Take away. Total cost £45 Prawn toast: Thick bread, frizzled to a frazzle, Not a taste of prawn Won Ton soup: Acceptable, but rather flavourless Special Fried rice: Now, this came as a pack of rice on it's own, with another pack of beef, prawn, chicken, peppers etc, which the user has to mix in separately. A truely lazy option. Crispy beef with chilli: More like turgid cardboard. Totally indiestable. Something else Chicken: Very sweet and sour. Not pleasant

Probably the best dine in Chinese around swadlincote, Burton and Coalville. The food is delicious but more expensive than your typical take away. We have been coming here with family, friends and work colleagues. Some work colleagues are from China when they visit and always want to come back here because of how nice and authentic the food is. I would always recommend to book a table if you dont want to be disappointed. The inside is nice but when busy always feels a little cramped at times. There's more tables for larger groups up stairs too. Would highly recommend it if you wanted a dine in Chinese.

Fantastic food. Ashby is blessed to have this establishment. Well worth a visit. But I would advise booking in advance for peak periods

We ordered a selection of take-away dishes on Sunday night (15th October 2023), all of which were very tasty!! To top it off, our delivery driver was also very friendly. We will be ordering again soon and a special thank you to Borthers for the recommendation. Thank you!

Brilliant place. Great friendly service and great fresh quality food. Not been in years as dont live in the area anymore but after last night's random stop I will be making a habit of going back on a regular basis simply because there is nothing nowhere as good as that in a 50 mile radius. Very relaxing atmosphere aswel 10/10.

Ordered the food at 18:30 today and still waiting at 21:00 absolutely shocking delivery service, I will not order again!!

Massively, massively disappointing long wait for a take away delivery… ordered at 6.30PM, and was advised food would arrive by 8.20PM, although that was a long enough wait, we accepted it. However the food finally arrived at 9PM, after speaking with the restaurant 4 times since ordering; we live 5 minutes down the road. The driver suggested we call the restaurant to see if they’d give us a discount, but we asked for them to call us… still waiting!!!

Modern Chinese Food.. very nice quality! Only few evergreen and much modern creations! Nice but expensive.. has been a very nice experience to try something different.. Waiters are a bit distracted.. i was painig hardly because of chilly food.. and this guy i've asked another drink took so long.. brought everything that was not needed and at last my drink.. i've hated him so hard..

Have eaten here a couple of times while in the area on business and it is great. Lovely food, friendly staff and nice little atmosphere. Small restaurant so book ahead if you have a large group. Highly recommended.

Phoned in an order with very helpful young lady, and it was ready for collection in 15 mins. Efficient and and friendly service when i called at restaurant despite fact girls were both very busy. Meal was generous portions and was delicious. Lamb and lettuce starter especially nice. Thanks.

Having visited Wongs on a number of occasions over the years, the food has always been exceptional, and we have always looked forward to returning. However, our most recent visit was memorable for the wrong reasons. Food was not as good, as it lacked the punch and flavour found previously. Prices had rocketed (probably due to rising ingredient costs), and potion sizes seemed to have been reduced. Having been sat at the rear of the restaurant resulted in a very noisy atmosphere, where we found it difficult to have a conversation over the other diner's.

1st time here won’t be the last food was amazing

Ordered for my wife’s bday tea, by far the best Chinese takeaway I’ve had! It arrived earlier than it was due to and the flavours were amazing!! Definitely our new go to Chinese!

I had the delivery service which was great. The spring rolls were great but no sauce. The satay chicken very disappointing. Not peanutty enough for me. The wonton soup again another big disappointing. No taste so had to add lots of soya sauce. Didn't like the wontons. I am used to a mince mix not actual whole prawns. So overall a disappointing dinner. Won't be ordering from them again

Food was stunning, staff were friendly and attentive. This really is first class Chinese food . Recommend crispy chicken with chilli and salt and chilli ribs but think anything on the menu will be 1st class

Excellent from start to finish, last minute booking following being cancelled at Shardlow …. Friendly staff, being trained but it’s good to see young people wanting to work! Food all great even the steamed dishes that took a little longer! All dishes were literally destroyed ! Crispy lamb excellent value and duck was great too. Will be back !

Always come in here on and off booked a table for a group of us staff very rude didn't even finish are starters and they were taking the plates away from us very rushed just felt they wanted us out to the point one of the waitresses walked passed and said gipos very racist do something about your staffs attitude 👎

Mixed experience really. Swift service and great food for most of the meals but prawn toast lacked any prawn composition whatsoever and there was a lack of seafood in the mixed fu yung. Think I'll stick to meat only dishes next time for a better experience

Food was ok, but the staff stood there watching you eat the whole time and made me and my fiancée feel really uncomfortable and as soon as we finished eating they didn’t give us time to finish drinks before putting the bill on table and literally forcing us out the door, we didn’t have a very good experience there didn’t feel like we could talk, relax and enjoy, won’t be going again 👎

This is probably one of the best Chonese restaurants in the area and the food is glorious, However, the immense queues stood over-looking you, whilst you eat and they wait for their take-aways, is very off-putting. And I suspect adds to the waiting time for sit-in diners to get their food.

This has always been a top Chinese in Ashby for a meal out.. I’ve been here countless times and food is always good. This time round I know that we have increase in gas and electric and the prices have gone up but this was expensive in the first place. Now prices have gone up and the portion sizes have gone small!!! Food is still fantastic quality but price increase and reduced portion size isn’t for me. I hope this isn’t permeant as it would be a shame to lose a good Chinese in the town. Thanks again.

Really rude customer service over the phone. Called in to order some lovely Chinese food, as I heard a lot of great things about the place. I feel there was a bit of miscommunication which could have been dealt with in a more calming manner. The woman started yelling as I couldn't hear her question, it really brought me down. Such a shame, good restaurant so I hear, rude service. Won't be trying any time soon.

1st time visiting here, absolutely lovely. We will definitely be back.
