Xanders in Mendip

Ordered fish , chips , mushy peas and mild curry to take out . The food was inedible . The fish was dry and overcooked the batter tasted disgusting like it had been fried in dirty oil . The chips were dry and looked like they had been cooked and warmed up about 3 times . The peas were so green they looked nuclear . The curry was so mild it had no taste . Now I have been here before and not had a problem but the ingredients are definitely cheap and nasty and the cook needs lessons . I will not be going back .

The fish at our usual go to fish and chip shop has become very small so we decided to try elsewhere. Staff friendly, cleaning our tables was immediate and thorough. Good choice on the menu but all three of us went for the regular special which includes Cod, chips, peas, bread and butter and tea or coffee. Well priced at under ten pounds. Food arrived in good time and looked really good, fish was a very good size. All tasted lovely. Would happily go again

We arrived for a fish and chip takeaway - after waiting an hour - we asked where are food was - they had forgotten, we reminded them of our order - they brought the food to eat in - not take away. They did apologise and offer a free drink - really I should have been offered a refund. Once home, the take away was cold, over done, no peas - just a very poor experience. I won't be going again.

We had a meal and ordered to our home now we have used these for period of 3 years so whether the boss is on his monthly I don't know We ordered fish chips peas and gravy and milkshake that cost 6 quid for my wife When it eventually arrived the gravy and mushy peas were all over and so was the food looked like it had been mountain biked to us across snowdon and now and behold milkshake not with order. Phoned xanders to be told have to contact southport eats for the refund of milkshake so said fair enough explained about the food to which female member if staff explained to someone else on the phone to hear carlos has done it again to which they apologised and offered to refund everything which was really nice of them. However manager said to southport eats no refund, when left reciew on southport eats it was denied but they do offers for them so clearly aligned somewhat. Since the owner blames the customer and calls the customer a liar after 3 years we will no longer be using and if anyone wants to go to a decent proper chippy on southport I strongly reccomend embassy never a bad service their amd avoid xanders, I've been to many restaurants across the UK as see my profile never experienced a chip shop like this

Looked up gluten free in Southport. This is a great find for anyone who is coeliac. A short walk from the station. Nice, clean dining area. Lovely staff. Ate a beautiful gluten free large cod with chips & mushy peas, complete with gf vinegar. Other gf items on menu I've never seen available elsewhere. Definitely an eating place to return to.

foods alright, service not good, nipped in for a quick fish and chips and the woman who served me was abit obnoxious, and was eating sweets while i was trying to pay. however food was quick and was served with an obsurd amount of vinegar and for the paper ,which it was served in, had leaked all over. also the woman made jokes and was abit weird.

Great value fish and chips ('Special'), good service. We opted for the 'special' fish & chips, which included tea and bread and butter. The curry sauce comes in sweet and spicy versions. We opted for the spicy. However, unless you are used to volcanic heat, the sweet version would probably suit more people, and we would opt for this next time. Perhaps we should have watched the raised eyebrows of the server when we ordered spicy! One of the best value plates I have had. The fish had in all likelihood just jumped off the boat onto the plate, the chips were good, and the portion size very generous. Eat in (as we did) or takeaway. One of the best chippies in the area.

After leaving a bad review back in aug 2023 i felt it was the right thing to do and update on the service recieved yesterday 17.2.24 (claire, tina and izzy) I thought we'd try a 2nd time driving from Manchester for fish and chips and glad i did. The 3 ladies mentioned went above and beyond and were very attentive. The food was gorgeous and even the brew 🤣 Will defo return 5*

We ate in. This fish and chip restaurant was quite clean. The staff were friendly and thorough. The fish and chips were pretty good. If I could make a small suggestion it would be to serve the curry sauce in a separate container rather than pooring it all over the chips. I ordered hot curry sauce and although I was fine with it I think to many it would have spoiled it as the curry sauce was indeed, really hot. Ok for me but the option of putting your own curry sauce on would have been better.

Used for first time for delivery. Good value 30% off offer, arrived hot, tasty. Would advise to request individual items though as fish dinners have peas served within the tray making the fish soggy, no crispness. Otherwise good.

Ordered on line but one hour and phoned, they had lost order. Reordered. Kept phoning and was told it’s on way, driver had left. 45 minutes later phoned and order was still at restaurant. Arrived 30 minutes later cold and inedible. Absolutely won’t go there again.

Supposedly one of the best fish and chips in Southport, hence why visited. Not so...fish and chip takeaway for price ...poor value. Ordered medium cod, very small and very little taste. Chips, terrible. Looked and Tasted like they'd been re cooked. Didn't eat. Mushy peas, horrible. First time we've ever chucked fish and chips in the bin. Very disappointed and will never go back.

I’ve been coming here for nearly 25 years since my grandmother first took me when I was 8. Granted it has undergone a lot of renovation changes since I first went. But the service and the food are always to a good standard every time I’ve been, today was no different. I was served by a young lad with fair hair he was very polite, granted maybe a little nervous but I’m guessing as he’s young it might be his first job. He took my order perfectly, read it back and asked if I would like my curry sauce in a pot or all over my pie dinner (some places wouldn’t think to do this) and was happy he did as wanted it all over. The food arrived within 5-7 minutes which was perfect and gave me time to not only write a review but to enjoy my food without rushing as I had a meeting later on. Keep up the good work ! And thank you again for a lovely chippy tea.

Really nice and relaxed atmosphere. Staff were excellent and excellent customer service, nothing too much trouble.

We attended this shop after looking at reviews and travelling from manchester for fish and chips, it was 730pm amd as we seen it closed at 8pm we had time to get a late tea.....BUT on entering the shop a colleague shouted to the door no more orders were being taken. I have to say we left the shop in disbelief and then reentered asking could we not order to take away and the same lady said "NO" Thankfully we got served in a gorgeous fish and chip shop that had great customer service skills. Although your reviews looked great your staff definitely need some manners in how they speak to people

Today this place was awful…..truly awful. Having googled fish and chip shops in Southport on our drive to the area I am amazed how somewhere can be so bad in comparison to the reviews posted. I can only assume that the priority on all orders goes to the delivery guys but then again, one driver was there for the whole 25 minutes we were there, loaded three of riders in to his car and was still waiting for another when we left. No wonder the just eat reviews say the food is cold. Anyway, we ordered our two meats, to eat in, and took a seat. Food arrived 35 minutes later….yes, THIRTY FIVE, and was like warm at best; I’d say cold bit my wife was being generous with the Luke warm opinion! We returned the food and gained a refund prompting another couple, who had been waiting for just a few minutes less than us, to ask for a refund too and leave. Three people were still waiting for take out orders too who had ordered seconds after us! The staff are surly, miserable and appear to couldn’t care less about the crap food, crap service or numerous refunds being asked for. Enter at your peril folks and only then if you have a good half an hour plus to kill

After googling fish and chips shops in Southport we decided to try here as it had a 4.6 star review. Arrived, one other person was in front of us, we ordered 2 fish, chips and mushy peas to eat in. We were told there would be a 5 minute wait which was perfectly acceptable. Bearing in mind that this is a fish and chip shop with a dining area and not a restaurant/bar we're you get waited on we were still waiting for our order 30 mins later. We asked how long our meals would be and got told not much longer. When our meals finally did arrive they looked good, we tucked into them and they were borderline lukewarm/cold. When I took them back to the counter I was told they were fresh and straight out of the fryer - the fryer must have been turned off or they'd been fresh out of the fryer 15 mins earlier! By this point we'd had enough so asked for out money back as did another couple who'd arrived after us. To be fair they did give us our money back although I had to ask them to give me the correct amount back as initially they gave me back £9 less than I'd paid! Our overall experience of Xander's was very poor.

Fresh, piping hot fish and chips. Dog friendly. Huge menu with plenty of choice for everyone. The chips weren’t greasy at all, the fish tasted so fresh, with yummy crispy batter. The sides of peas and curry were tasty too. Big portion sizes, even the small meal was more than enough. The staff were so friendly and made fuss of the dogs which they lived.

this place has to now be my favourite chippy ever me and my boyfriend have started going once a week now 🤣🤣 the staff are lovely and the food is amazing would highly recommend

Thanks to Xander’s Fish Bar in Southport today for taking such wonderful care with their GF chips, I even got a sticker! They’re not GF by default, but if you ask they do chips, fish, nuggets and sausage to order and even have GF vinegar....
