Lovely country B&B, Pub is closed Tuesday and Wednesday but that did not interfere with check in or breakfast which was fantastic. The staff we met , a man at check in and breakfast were very friendly and helpful. Great place to explore Forest of Dean and surrounding attractions from.

We didn't go for anything special on the menu, just fish and chips and the pie but they were both so good, particularly the pie which was next level melt in the mouth. The specials sounded great so will for sure go again, a lot of the produce is locally sourced and the menu is seasonal. Even though we live in Bristol we may have to make a special visit just to go here

Location great for me as working locally for a couple of days. Service was excellent communicative and responsive. Rooms were nice size, clean and good decor. They are going to have all rooms refurbished in June so this will be even better standard when completed. Didn't get to try the food in the evening as the restaurant isn't open currently on Tues/Wed which is a shame as from reviews looks to be excellent. Breakfast however was great with variety of treats to have from traditional to healthy.

Large and well-appointed rooms with lots of lovely little amenities and a large bath/shower with daily changed towels. With the included breakfast, the Miners is an absolute steal and reasonably walkable to Puzzlewood or Perrygrove (though a car is always helpful since local taxis are sparse). Come for the fantastic breakfast, stay for the sheep-watching and private grounds!

Can highly recommend The Miners at Sling, we have had a short break in Forest. Had a wonderful meal on Saturday evening and went back for a great Sunday lunch. Sunday lunch is meats are served on wooden board so that you help yourself, with plenty of potatoes and veg for everyone. Really worth a visit if you are in the area, best to book. Went here with a little trepidation given some of the reviews However the food was excellent and without doubt the finest Garlic Bread I've ever had! The bread was made with local wild garlic and dripping with cheesy butter. The garlic continued with a chicken kiev that was at least three times the size of what you might expect and I couldn't finish it. The flavour was wonderful and it was served with broccoli and some fries (their thick cut chips were better suited to it). Overall, really recommended!

Walked in and asked for a table of 2, hopeful as pub didn’t look busy, met with a frosty ‘we’ve no tables’ , not even offered a drink or even attempting to try & squeeze us in! Definitely would not recommend! As a business owner I understand going out of my way to accommodate a customer, but obviously customers are not important here.

We've just had Sunday lunch here with friends having driven past it many times. It was excellent! The food was fantastic and served in a novel way in that you can carve your own meat at the table. The quality of the food was top notch and portions generous, the service was great without being pressuring and the dessert menu was excellent. There is nothing negative to say. Had a party of 15 or more, the food was good and the service coped fine. I had a shared starter (fish), which was fine and a decent size for 2. The tomahawk steak was excellent - again, enough for 2 (45 quid is very good for that piece of meat). Well cooked (remedies rare) and well served. We had lots of wine and beers and the bill was around 650, but again, for 15, this is good. Generally really pleased, thank you Denis

Room basic but absolutely to requirements and sparkling clean. Nice addition was Nescafe Dolce Gusto (I think) - hadn't a clue how to use it, no instructions so used the google squad. No milk in the room, just about to call down when I found a note in one of the drawers explaining fresh milk was in a fridge at the end of the communal corridor - fridge located and several pints of semi-skimmed, spring water and fresh orange juice all chilled and gratis - very nice. Dropped star was because I reserve that for a walk-in 'wow' moment. I had room 1 so others may be far more decadent. Had three course meal at restaurant, tipped to be a gastronimic delight and it didn't disappoint. Had battered Haddock with chips and home-made curry sauce. I have never had batter that light and crispy in my 50yrs. Outstanding. My three courses, a pint of draught and a chocolate liqueur - £50 with 10% tip (voluntary). Serving staff very pleasant though the menu could have come with some explanations about some of the more cryptic items and the room (shown to room by serving staff) could have come with a few bits of information first-hand rather than having a mini escape room type feel - how does the coffee machine work? and where is the milk? Didn't have breakfast as had to be out at 6am but no mention of time either when taken to room - when I asked I'm not sure they knew. BUT, 10/10 for sincere welcoming nature and pleasantness from all staff. Room with breakfast on a Friday evening was £75. Large car park and a remote enough feel to know you're away from home and possibly - some of you, having a Forest of Dean vacation. I'd definitely come back - even if just to eat if I were in the area again. Last thought would be 'How nice it must be that the restaurant at your digs isnt just convenient but it's probably serving some of the best food around'. Si.

Service was fantastic. Food was great. Hearty portion size, lovely golden chips and quality beef. Does exactly what it says on the tin. The only thing for me, and it’s purely down to personal taste preferences, is that the homemade ketchup that came with the burger was a bit too sweet and the star anise flavour was a bit overpowering.

We were attending a wedding at Clearwell Castle at the weekend so chose Miners Country Inn. Our room was lovely! Much bigger than expected, and it was really nice to find a fridge full of water, juice and milk just outside the room. It was a winter wedding and the Inn had put some extra standing heaters in our room which helped keep it nice and cosy! My only complaint was that the bathroom was quite cold as you couldn't have a standing heater in there also, but I'm not sure what the Inn could have done about that! The area was nice and quiet and the bed was comfy so we slept like a rock both nights. Only a 4 min drive from the Castle which was ideal for attending the wedding! Breakfast was great, all the ingredients were locally sourced from what I could see and there was a nice choice of cereal, fruit and pastries to go along with the cooked breakfast. We also managed to have dinner there the first night and the food was absolutely amazing! Biggest portion of fish and chips I had ever had! The staff were kind and attentive also, it felt like they couldn't do enough for you and there was always someone to help with a query or a request. The price was great too compared to other places just 4 minutes away. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be staying here :)

We dropped by The Minors at Sling for Sunday lunch with friends This is one of those traditional country pubs that is so hard to find these days There were four of us and we had two good sized Sunday roasts; beef and pork with crackling, Yorkshire puddings, gravy and mountains of fresh vegetables. It was delivered to the table and we carved it ourselves which was rather fun. The staff were delightful, so courteous and welcoming. The food really was excellent, cooked to perfection and there were so many charming and thoughtful little touches which told us that the staff really cared and wanted to produce very special meals for everybody We didn’t have room for pudding but we had them anyway. Each plate was a masterpiece of beautifully presented food. This was a truly delicious, very special meal and I can’t not recommend The Minors more highly.

Thought we’d try it for an evening meal and it is hands down one of the best if not the best meal we’ve had out for a long time. We had a rump steak, a venison pie and childrens meal of sausages. First of all the ingredients used were clearly excellent, but also someone had cooked that food with experience, skill and love. The steak was cooked perfectly and very tender, and we cook steak a lot at home and are quite picky on it being right. The suet venison pie was a delight, British classic at it’s best, full of rich hunks of meat that were juicy and tender and with a beautiful sauce. Even the sausages on the child menu were good quality and perfectly cooked…no catering rubbish in sight. Chips, potatoes and vegetables were great and, woohoo, a dressed salad instead of a pile of dry leaves! Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and oh my days they nailed it. It was glorious and rich but not overpowering. The pudding was moist, spongy and full of flavour. The ice cream balanced it out as it wasn’t too sweet, and the biscuit/crumbs and sauce complimented everything. Getting a dessert like this right is not easy. Having worked in the industry myself, if I had a very slight niggle I’d say the service seemed to lack a little warmth. It felt like it was more about getting us sat down, taking our order etc but not really engaging with us so much. It wasn’t super busy so I’m not sure if it was staff preoccupied with other things or perhaps a little inexperience as people new to it can be a bit shy to begin with. I must emphasise it wasn’t bad service, it’s just that a bit of proactive extra warmth would make it perfect. As I say though that is a very minor thing, overall our experience was fab and this is our new local favourite place for food and it is hands down the best local place we have eaten at, but actually better than most places we have eaten at more widely (Bristol, Gloucester, etc), and we do eat out a lot. Thank you and we will be back.

Called in on the off chance of finding somewhere to eat as we are staying in the area and boy what a find. Monday night it turns out is " pot luck night" all food on the "pot luck menu" is half price and what a choice, a great selection of starters, mains and dessert. We had the duck swag bags to start, followed by 9oz sirloin steak (superb by the way) and a gourmet burger and finished off with "the trio of desserts". Now some of you may be thinking as I was. ..1/2 price food = small portions...but no.....proper size portions with bags of flavour too......
