Wright Brothers South Kensington in Kensington and Chelsea

Have been multiple times and feel that the food and service is consistently top notch. Disagree with reviewer on freshness and french fries. The Chips are a 10, hot, perfectly salted. I would go to Wright Bros if they only served Fries. But they don't, have not had a bad piece of fish, always fresh and if you want it done differently, they try to accomodate. Jim S

Loved the food, the service, the ambiance. The hake with saffron mash was superb. So was the best crême brulée I ever had. Service by Oliver was top class: friendly, attentive and fast. It couldn't have been better.

Excellent .. big fans of this place.. beautiful fresh tasty oysters, wonderful mussels and a delicious Provençal fish stew. Oliver was our attentive , knowledgeable and professional waiter. Great bistro atmosphere, too.. a winner

We were there on a weekend evening, place was quite full. Food was good , not outstanding. A first dish of grilled prawns was personally disappointing as they were in their shells, which I dislike, would have been nice to mention that on the menu. The fish stew was excellent but the dish was rather small, didn’t really feel like a main, more like a starter. Service was pleasant but two mistakes were made, showing insufficient attention to details, the staff did apologize. Overall - nice, not fantastic.

Had a fantastic meal here. Excellent and friendly service. The food was exceptional especially the scallops in garlic butter served in the shells. The waiter was good enough to bring us some bread to sop up the remaining garlic butter. Drinks were also done very well. Will be back next time in London.

We were staying in S Kensington and happened on this restaurant by chance. Our waitress was really friendly and efficient! We both ordered the Dover Sole with fries! Excellent really and a good price for the area. I have no hesitation recommending Wrights.

My friend and I happened upon Wright Brothers restaurant and it did not disappoint. We were in the mood for seafood and we were pleasantly surprised with our dining experience. We were able to enjoy a three course meal with expertly made martinis as well. The food was flavorful while maintaining the focus on the seafood. I would definitely eat here again and recommend it to anyone in visiting South Kensington.

I recently dined at here and was very disappointed. The ambiance was uninviting, with poor lighting and unwelcome vibe. The food was bland and overcooked – the mussels and lobster were particularly bad. Service was inattentive and rushed, and the dessert was stale. You could see the staff drinking at the back. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I won't be returning.

Superb! Baked cod special was outstanding (cod and ham hock and leek stew). Mussels were beautifully cooked in a light white wine broth that had a fantastic depth of flavour. Great service and staff were lovely. If you love seafood you must visit or you are missing out!

The staff were absolutely wonderful , great laughs with the waitress. Food was outstanding( i had roasted scallops as a starter and the white wine mussels as a main). For drinks i had a cucumber breeze, honestly it was lovely, At 6pm we went down to the mermaid bar to have a few more drinks, the signature cocktails such as the lady coco and the wight brothers bloody mary were unbelievable. Will certainly be coming back here with my family again!

Appalling service last night: I have never felt less welcome in any restaurant. We arrived at 9.00 and were immediately told the kitchen would close in 45 minutes - hardly a problem as we were not likely to take 45 minutes to order! After that, it was a barrage of NO you can't have that, NO that's not available, and then finally being harried to hurry up and pay because they needed to "shut down the system". Absolute rubbish - the staff just wanted to get rid of us as soon as possible. Also one member of staff took to pounding something on a counter right behind my host's head, no doubt another tactic to encourage us to go. It was a horrid experience. And while we were being rushed out of the restaurant, free drinks were being handed out to staff behind the bar. Don't risk going here, if you're any later than 8.30 pm!

Perfect from the moment arrived to leaving. All staff polite, friendly and helpful. Food AMAZING! Ambiance great. Just excellent in every way.

Ambiance and wine list good, food not so much. I orderd a half native lobster and when it arrived it was overcooked and did not taste fresh. Didn't smell good either. It was also the smallest lobster I have ever seen, but that was incidental. I requested another. After five minutes the waitress came over and said that the chef had said that the lobster was fresh in that morning and that it was cooked perfectly. Someone else then came to the table and suggested that I have another dish because the chef had said that he would cook the second lobster in exactly the same way as the first one. Two problems here: first, the chef needs to learn how to cook lobster; second, if I send something back, the subject is not up for discussion. This is the third time I have been to this branch at South Ken. I have also been to Battersea Power Station branch. I won't be going back. Such a shame because it could be great.

Excellent oysters.can’t say the same about the Moules frites .The mussels were big and tasty but sauce was so watery with little hint of white wine or onion or shallots and possibly of cream .Very poor dish for its high price.

We had never visited before and were only at Wright Bros because we had a spare hour before we had to attend a pre-booked event. The oysters, service, cleanliness, temperature of the wine were all outstanding. Frankly, neither of us wanted to leave. Terrific food! What a gem! Coralie, our waitress, helped us make choices for dinner. She was great! The food was delicious! We had 2 appetizers ,the octopus and scallop items. For dinner I chose the linguini with shrimp and my husband had the fish pie! We would definitely recommend this place!

Easily the worst dining experience in London !!! Awful, awful, awful. The manager was smoking outside and then came in and took our order at the table stinking of stale cigarettes. I have never experienced anything as bad as that in a restaurant. Food was grossly overpriced, below average and basic. I wouldn't eat here again if they offered me free food and drinks for a year ! TRUTHFULLY. I went here a few years ago and had an excellent meal but i returned this Easter weekend and its impossible to comprehend how much this place has deteriorated. Its no wonder it was empty at a prime time on a prime day over Easter. Don't waste your money going here.

This restaurant does the chain no favours. We arrived for an early dinner. We were greeted graciously and our coats were taken. We were shown a table with two banquettes right by the door and were unable to move the seating at all. I asked for a different table which put us in a corner with the serving hatch from the kitchen right behind us and the service bar next to it. This is important because three times during our time there the kitchen dropped a metal pan very noisily, shocking us each time. Each time we wondered what of our food had ended up on the floor. (It didn't, but it didn't cause confidence in the kitchen either) The scallop starters were very good. At that price they should be! The fish pie mains were enjoyed by those that had them, but they looked pretty ordinary to me. A fish main was meagre portion size with a similarly small portion of veg underneath it. The thai mussels were good, but the french fries were undersized and had been sitting a bit long before being served. Clearly you are supposed to order side dishes at £6 each to make it a meal. The oysters must have been covered in gold for the prices they wanted to charge for them. Now I know that prices have increased but the current wholesale price for oysters in London is £2.53 per kg. Wright Bros want to charge £40 for 6 oysters. Sorry but much more than I am prepared to pay. We had ordered a bottle of wine, and they did something I really hate in restaurants. They kept trying to top off people's glasses, with a different server each time coming over to try and empty the bottle. Since we had two people at the table who were trying to minimise their alcohol intake, it was annoying to see the booze being forced on them. The whole purpose of course was to empty the bottle so that we bought another. We resisted. The wine was good, but at £38 we didn't want to spend twice. This restaurant needs some serious work. The tables are too close together and cramped. The staff need training in how to use the credit card machine. When we call for the bill it is pretty natural to want our coats, but this seemed to be a mystery to the staff. And put the bottle of wine on the table and let the guests manage their own consumption.

Really disappointed. We have used the delivery service during lockdown and decided to make a weekend family trip to eat at the Kensington restaurant. We deliberately stayed in a hotel in Kensington to be near the restaurant. We arrived in London Friday morning and were asked by the booking company to confirm our booking. We did. At around 11.30 I had a voice mail message to say sorry the restaurant will be shut on the Saturday! So two nights hotel booked and not cancellable in Kensington £20 + taxi cost in and out of town! We eventually found a place called Shell in Holborn Southampton row. Highly recommend it and we won't bother with Wright Brothers any more. All they offered was to transfer out booking to Battersea. Bad service.

Always wanted to go and try that little place. very cosy and rather charming, the seafood - the main feature - looked gorgeous. We were with friends, and I was particularly impressed by the warm welcome and efficient service. You can tell, staffing level was low, we could have been served more, but they were on the top of their game to pour the wine and still be smiling and fun to talk to. The kitchen was very efficient too. I can only say, if the chef treat and cook the meat very well and the t bone of veal was a delight. So, a fish restaurant that gives as much as care for the other dishes than they did - deserve to pay a visit... It is not cheap, but it is worth it for a lovely treat. For a quality and freshness of the products, you should expect to pay that kind of price. I will be back for more!

Absolutely living on past reputation, to say this place is over priced for the quality of food is a joke, steer clear of the fish pie unless you like salmon, because there is no sign of any other fish present in this offering except for salmon, our expectations were blown away and all I can say is be careful where you dine in London, don’t just expect quality portions and ingredients because some restaurants pull the wool over your eyes with what they are delivering. Yours truly disappointed u

We went to the Wright Brothers for a pre-show dinner. It is a small place with a warm atmosphere and friendly staff. Seeing it on and adjacent table, we opted for the delux seafood platter. Is it enough for 4? Yes, they said. It arrived quickly and was absolutely gorgeous, so many lovely colours and flavours. The downside was that it wasn't particularly filling (I know this is normal with seafood). So we ordered a few more dishes which were also absolutely superb. Overall a great meal with great service, but we ended up effectively paying for two main courses each, so the bill was astronomical. Would I go back? Yes, but maybe I'll be a bit more careful next time!

In South Ken, go downstairs at Wrights for space and quiet. The waiters are nice but service is slow... And the fish is okay but very very salty and not wonderful. But a pleasant dinner place.

A lovely meal, great choice of oysters and the Dover sole was sublime. The cuttlefish was tasty and portion size good. Fries with aioli were delicious and we’d recommend the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. We’ll certainly return when back in London.
