One of the main reasons for the visit was due to the iconic name, made famous by the film of the same name.. of which my boys are huge fans Visited after a cold visit from Suffolk with my 2 teen boys after a cold visit to the Fort, wanting to warm up with some food. We definitely saw a local that we thought of as 'Blank'. 🤣 For a Saturday afternoon it was extremely quiet, which concerned me a bit. (Usually strikes me as not a good location if this quiet) Ordered drinks and food for 3 of us and food from a very limited menu. One thing was immediately noted... How damn cold it was in there, a fire, or should I say, hot coals, was in the fireplace but it was freezing on a winter day, even the staff were bundled up in winter coats. We sat at the back of the pub in the Samuel Pepys room where we were quickly joined by the local 'village council' having their meeting and glaring at us as we chatted! (Sorry.. pubs are for chatting) Our food arrived swiftly and to our delight and I have to say suprise, it was really tasty and of large portions... Fish was a tad on the greasy side, but was still edible. So, 10/10 for that. Overall. A welcome stop off after a visit to the Fort and yes, I would visit again.... It wasn't terrible.. but it really lacked the love and attention it dearly needs in order to attract more clients.

All closed up, looks like it's another pub gone. Went for little stroll with friends along the waterfront and decided on making pub our lunchtime stopover, as we have before. No signage outside for menu, or the usual sky tv/ football banners, and all the chairs stacked up inside. Shame possibly another landmark going.

Admittedly we arrived at 1pm on a sunny Friday, however, we were not told of a long wait for food. There was no bitter on pump, only bottles. I ordered a sandwich and waited an hour before I chased it up. When it arrived, the side salad was drenched in water, soaking the brown bread. I tried to pick up the sandwich, but the bread was too soggy and collapsed. I started to put the contents into the top slices and noticed that instead of chicken & bacon, I only had bacon. My friend’s wrap was in a pool of water, she asked for a serviette to dry the plate, the waitress offered no apology and just brought cutlery in a serviette, missing the point completely. We were due to have crisps as well as a side salad, however these were missing. When we asked for them, we were told they would follow. When they didn’t, my friend went to the bar and was reluctantly given some bags, but only flavoured packs. I am sure if we were locals we would have been treated better, but we were ‘tourists’ as identified by the man behind the bar.

Interesting location near the Tudor fort and the Thames ferry to Gravesend. Stopped for a couple of drinks and sat outside. Looks quaint from the front but nothing special inside and at the rear and not a very extensive or interesting selection when it comes to real ale. Shame it doesn’t have a view over the river as it’s too low down. I can’t comment on the food as I didn’t eat here.

If I could give a higher rating I would do! There is not one bad thing about this place! The food is really good quality, never had anything bad at all and reasonably priced too plus it's quick service which is always with a smile. The staff are genuinely amazing and a credit to the place, always friendly and professional! They make you feel welcomed every time you step in, there's a pool table and dart board too which is all you need in a pub. You get a very diverse group of people going in and out but everyone is always courteous of one another e.g when people are playing pool/darts. Also it's a lot better in the summer out in the beer garden and taking in all of the scenery. To summarize I would definitely recommend anyone going there whether it's for a drink, entertainment, socializing, business or some food it's the perfect place to do it.

Had a late Sunday roast and was made to feel very welcome. Food was what I would call a home made roast. Plenty of food and very tasty. A food and drinks reasonably priced. Pub has a great old world feel to it and staff are very friendly. This pub was built in the17th/18th century and has real history to it. A real piece of Tilbury history and well worth a visit.

As it was a Tuesday lunchtime, it wasn't busy and we moved on after a drink as it was a little dark and dingy and the tables needed a bit of a clean. We went for Sunday lunch. The building itself oozes history. We had read the reviews so were not expecting great food or service but actually the waitress was very friendly, polite and helpful. Food took a little while to come but not too long. There was plenty of it but that's about all we could say. My fish pie had been microwaved to within an inch of its life. Mum in law (90) asked what the funny grey stuff was on her plate. We laughed when we realised it had once been red cabbage. The rest of the food - normal Sunday lunch was average. All that said, we didn't go away hungry and the bill for 5 of us came to £60 including drinks. Worth going just to see the pub itself though.

Why do pubs not cater for drivers, the only alcohol free drinks were coke, lemonade, j2o’s etc, one alcohol free beer, no apple juice or alcohol free ciders, this pub is only really available to drivers as its distance from town is really not walkable. It is a lovely coffee place. But in recent days I have experienced very impolite behaviour from one of the staff members. I paid for a Maple Hazelnut Latte and then asked if I could get it done using Soy milk. She was grumpy about it and said it doesn’t state soy milk in the order she received on the screen. I told that I am happy to pay any extra. She was like next time you need to tell properly but this time it’s fine. People who work in customer service can be a lot more polite and customer friendly. Also what I don’t understand is since I have already paid for Hazelnut milk a swap to soya shouldn’t cost extra though I offered to pay any extra !

I love this garden centre but I felt overwhelmed entering as on the left it was Christmas decorations and on the right autumnal decorations and Halloween decorations, why all at once? Plants look really nice and healthy. I recommend this garden centre and the cafe because it has a good feel about it even with all the seasons.

It's not 18th century at all it was built in 16th century. Best pub in Essex . The landlady is a legend.
