We have been here few times and it’s always fantastic here the is food delicious and the service is excellent … my daughter had a fantastic birthday dinner on February 26th . I would like to thank all the staff for the cake with the candles and the great singing which made it special

The staff were friendly and helpful the wine was good n the coffee was good dessert of creme brulee was ok The main course of BBQ chicken was absolutely revolting ,bony squishy the sauce was sloppy n tasteless the skinny fries were ok n the coleslaw was ok ....my friends soup n salad were lovely . I had this main course 5/6 years ago when I went there n this dish was delicious I couldn't believe how bad it was today ,the staff offered to change it but I couldn't face the same meal again . I had 3 lots of friends have Xmas dos here n they all said they'd had a terrible meal so I was prewarmed.

As locals we have visited wood grill many times and the food and atmosphere are always good. I am concerned about the cleanliness. After a visit last summer sitting in the conservatory area I was shocked by the dirty windows and clearly months build up of dead flies. The toilets are very unpleasant with dirty floors and general grime. We like wood grill and want to continue visiting, but these things do need to be addressed.

Takeaway orders appear to be only started once you get there. Often told twenty minutes and then once you get there end up waiting another 10-20 minutes. Happens everytime. They are other food places nearby so often other orders end up cold. Poor service. Tonight even half the steak had to be binned as too tough. Will Not be coming back.

Kids menu a bit limited but adults is fine

Perfectly cooked medium rare steak, Fish cook to perfection lovely and moist. Reasonably priced. Great service polite and attentive but not overpowering

Had the ribs in Bourbon sauce. Really large portion, was divine. I had the skinny fires but the large fries so looked amazing. Crème brûlée to finish. Really good. Staff were all very attentive.

This restaurant is one of the best restaurants in the region. It needs no introduction. The food there is very delicious and the treatment is very good.

Best vegetarian burger option within at least 10 miles. Deep fried Brie is a game changer. Love this place

A short drive from Stansted airport is this little gem of a restaurant. On the main road through Stansted Mountfitchet village, there is ample parking and access for disabled. The staff are friendly and can’t do enough to accommodate. The food never disappoints and is good value for money. A family friendly venue with a lively atmosphere, I would highly recommend a visit.

The food was exceptional and the service was great. The prices are fair. I recommend this restaurant and don't forget to tip the staff 😉

It was ok but expected better. The food is reasonably priced, as is the wine. I had the pulled pork, which was completely overwhelmed by the sickly sweet sauce. My daughter had the spinach pizza which was “ok”. My granddaughter made the best choice with the sea bream was delicious. Service was strange. The chap who served us was over us like a rash at first, not giving us nearly enough time to choose after we arrived. He came back few minutes and this became annoying as we weren’t in any rush, having had long drives that day. After our food had been served, he then didn’t come to check if everything was ok. This didn’t happen until we’d finished, when a lovely staff member called Lyn noticed we’d been left alone for a long time. She was really nice and took time to ask us how the meal was, and whether we’d eaten at one of their restaurants before. We had a lovely chat with her and left the restaurant feeling really appreciated. I’d definitely go back there if in the area, but would probably order the fish, or a steak.

Couple of years since we have visited. Had lunch on Christmas eve, delicious food, great service, lovely atmosphere. Will be back soon!

This restaurant has become a tradition coming here after a visit to Audley End with a party of 13 and each year we are so impressed. They look after the kids first so they are not waiting for their food which is so helpful when the adults food comes out. The food it’s hot, delicious and caters well for my gluten free intolerance. We have been lucky enough to have Lynn serving us the last few visits and she is so helpful, friendly and personable that I felt she was worth a mention. We will be back soon.

Brilliant food and amazing service from Lyn, who made the evening extra special. A great start to Christmas

As a family we visited on a Friday evening for our daughters birthday meal. Our daughter and partner have eaten at the restaurant previously whereas this was my first experience. The welcome was friendly and our server for the night, Lynn, took our drinks order in a timely manner. Lynn was professional, friendly and super accommodating throughout the evening. Our daughter has certain food intolerances and Lynn did everything in her power to ensure my adult daughter enjoyed the experience too, including the ubiquitous, but nonetheless enjoyable, staff rendition of singing happy birthday and presenting her with a suitable dessert a la candle. The menu has a strong meat bias, which wasn’t unexpected given the restaurant name and theme, but also catered for other diets too. I thoroughly enjoyed my spicy chicken wings starter, just enough heat to give a pleasant buzz without numbing the palate. My Fat Pat double burger was, for my liking, grilled to perfection being medium rare and the vanilla crème brûlée ended the evening very pleasantly indeed. Each member of our party enjoyed without reservation the food presented. The final bill was reasonable based on the food quality, the staff interaction and the general ambience. Lynn is a credit to the restaurant. Thoroughly recommended and another outing already in the planning.

After a long illness went here with my son 4 of us walking in it was warm cosy we ordered drinks & we’re kind of rushed to prefer food. Starters were ok. Then mains started to arrive 2bowls of chips & the veg burger came out waited 6/7 mins pizza came out the pizza was cold &!mushy in middle & raw but sides were well done to much so that had to go back after 15 mins still no ribs to company chips ! Meanwhile my daughter in law very uncomfortable ate bits of her food my son was not impressed as 8 mins later my re cooked pizza came out & still not his or my daughters accompanying mains if ribs Yes the waitress kept saying sorry then again pizza was raw mushy & watery in middle so only crust could be ate & it only had minimal topping with 3 bits of pepperoni on it not good. Finnaly after 25/30 mins my son cancelled all our food he was so upset as 1st time id been out in a yr. A to this then the ribs arrived omg they look like they had been thrown on plate dry unappetising not good at all but by then the happy mood had changed to just disappointment I was too embarrassed to send my pizza back again so we paid & left. £139.95 the bill was & sadly we will def not be returning terrible. You don’t expect to pay £15 for raw slushy pizza or £19.99 for dry Luke warm ribs..

We have been here before and found it ok but this Time 5 out of 7 were not happy with our meals ribs over cooked and tastes sea bass over cooked 2 steak meals not good. We will cross this restaurant off our list

Very disappointed. I join some work colleagues for dinner and secret santa. I contacted the restaurant before and asked if they sold gift vouchers. The lady on the phone confirmed it, so when I arrived at the restaurant I went to see the manager and asked him for a gift voucher, he took ages to find "the voucher" and charged me £35, so I paid for the card and went back to the table. Then I realised that there were not writen amount on the card, so i approached the manager again and enquire. He said that not amount was required as it was a discount vip card. I didn't ask for a discount card. I wanted a voucher so I requested a refund. Eventually he found the voucher, but didn't know how to fill it. All of this was so frustrating!!! I ended not getting anything for my colleague for secret santa. Apart of this the chairs were so uncomfortable as they moved around, they didn't stay still on the floor. The food was average nothing special. I ordered a cider, the waitress brought me a beer. The dessert tested like flour. All the experience was a torture!!!! I do kot recommend this restaurant. The service provided by the manager was very poor and so it was the food.

Brilliant spot. Was recommended by a friend and what a delight it was. Lovely looking place with friendly staff. Was well looked after. Plenty of hands on deck. Food & drink options are great also with amazing standard of food quality. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

Really nice place on the way home from the Audley End Christmas railway. We don’t live near and were lucky enough to get in without a booking. The food was really nice for a family of 4 with kids 4 & 10. Our waitress was new and was fantastic. She was very attentive, helpful and couldn’t have done more to make sure we were happy with everything. Really pleased we visited and will def go back if we’re in the area.

We went for my sons 18th big Birthday lunch, family, friends and children, 20 of us in total! We had a lovely time, the food was delicious, pizza, ribs and steaks very good. The service was friendly and very professional. For such a large group they took it all in their stride. Would highly recommend!

Been there a few times , always very good

We were looking for somewhere for a quick bite to eat before going to our hotel in Stansted so thought we’d try here. It was quite busy when we arrived and even though we hadn’t booked they found us a table at the pizza bar. The pizza was lovely and fresh and we watched it being made in front of us. The staff were also very lovely and professional. Would return if ever in the area again.

Booked for lunch restaurant was very quiet but food was excellent fillet steak was amazing cooked to perfection we will be back next time but in the evening next time to soak up the atmosphere. Staff were very good.

Truly amazing food excellent service all staff were smart , helpful and professional. Now the good bit the food excellent, tasty hot food . Presentation 10 taste 10 value for money 10. It’s the small things that make a difference from the jug of iced cucumber water (free) to the beautifully served pulled pork dinner. This was my first visit but will definitely choose this place above many others from now on . Thank you

Marvellous food and a lot of seating.

Great meal and the lady was a lovely host. We had called earlier in the day for a quick bite and a drink, and loved the atmosphere so decided to go back at night.

6 hour drive up from S Devon. Checked TA, chose here. Superb on all counts, venue, menu, staff and value. Therefore recommended.

We were staying locally before a flight out of Stanstead the following morning and this looked a good choice for an evening meal based on TA reviews - it was! We booked online and our table was ready when we arrived. They have car parking at the rear. The car park entrance takes you past the wood fired pizza oven and they have ‘counter’ seating round it as well as seating in the main restaurant area. The decor is good and fits in nicely with the Wood Grill name with many cut logs used for decoration. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they brought us a jug of water as we were sitting down. The menu was quite varied with burgers, pizzas, steaks, fish etc so I took us a while to decide! In the end we went for a pizza and a burger. The burger came with a good helping of crispy fries and a salad garnish and was extremely tasty (it was the double beef version) so really pleased with my choice. My wife had a pizza which had a good quantity of toppings so she enjoyed it although she thought the base could have been crispier. We shared a strawberry ice cream dessert which we thought was just OK but overpriced for what we got. Overall an enjoyable meal and would come back

Lovely stop off the M11, delicious food and fast service!

Just had a delivery and missing an entire meal. Called restaurant for replacement. They said they're sorry but kitchen is now closed and to go through go getters. Who are also now closed! Be wary of making orders from this establishment especially if you have nothing to feed the person who didn't get their meal!

I’ve been using this restaurant for years and it never disappoints. In the heart of Stansted village, it is easily accessible and has a ramp for wheelchair users. The menu doesn’t change, but why should it, it’s a winning combo of dishes that locals return for time and time again. Staff are friendly and always welcoming. Meat is always cooked to perfection and the hot wings are a must. The deep fried brew is delicious and burgers are great. Pizza lovers can choose from a classic collection and sit and watch while it’s prepared and cooked in the huge wood fired pizza oven. If you’re staying in Stansted or passing through, drop in, you won’t be disappointed and I guarantee you won’t leave hungry. One of my favourite restaurants.

For years this has been one of our favourite places to go in the village but last night was horrendous from the moment we sat down we were made to feel unwelcome. When we were ordering and a little undecided on what to order, rather than make a suggestion, the lady serving, who I understand is the manager, huffed and rolled her eyes. When our food came, our shared starter was burnt and 2 of our main courses were cold. This wouldn’t have been the end of the world as all restaurants have their off days but when we raised it the manager was rude, unapologetic and aggressive. After sending back the cold food, she stood behind our table glaring and sneering and trying to intimidate our party (one of which was a teen who was terrified). She walked around the restaurant talking loudly to someone on the phone asking them to ‘come to the restaurant’ in an incredibly threatening manner and she made gestures and talked loudly about us to other tables. I’ve never before been to a restaurant worried that someone would be laying in wait for us outside. We had a genuine complaint which could have been easily resolved. A horrendous end to the evening.

It is a shame that they serve food with paper under it!! You get paper on your fork when you cut your food.

Nice place, dinner was nice but unfortunately the portions were somewhat on the small size. I had the salmon and this was far too small for the price.

Decent grub but missing the spark it used to have that made it a 5* restraunt. The crispy wings used to be to die for, somethings changed. Will come again in a few months and see if its back up to scratch.

Its incredible sad to say this was the most horrible dining out experience I have ever had. Firstly, The food was dreadful. I had potatoes with my butter soup which were inedible. My chicken was clearly microwaved and the waiter clearly wanted us to leave as soon as possible. His bedside manner was terrible which is a shame as his colleagues were much nicer. My Aunt's risotto also was swimming in butter. I still feel nauseous when I think of what we ate. I would never recommend this place, even if you were starving hungry.

Staying nearby for our early flight tomorrow. I decided to look for a restaurant for our family to have dinner at a restaurant. What a discovery. A pizza oven for my pizza loving son. My partner and I had the most beautiful rump steak, and our daughter had pulled pork. Ambience was lovely, food was stunning and so reasonably priced.

This was a random booking based on recent Tripadvisor reviews and the fact that we were in the area, and we were not disappointed. The car park is a little limited but we managed to find a space and we received a warm greeting on entering the building. The food was very tasty - my steak was delicious - very lean - and a joy to ask for medium rare and for it to be cooked perfectly. The service was very attentive and the cost was very reasonable. Altogether, a great discovery.

Our local, always try to book a table in advance, there are seats around the pizza oven bar if you turn up on the night. Excellent pizzas and great atmosphere for a Friday night dinner

Visited Friday lunchtime with my cousin and uncle - we had booked a table just to be sure, but on this occasion the restaurant was not over-busy. The menu is much broader than the restaurant name might suggest. We each had a different main course (risotto, sea bass, salmon), and all were delicious - fresh, beautifully cooked and piping hot. Service was EXCELLENT - attentive, thoughtful and friendly. I paid the bill in a bit of a rush (keen to get going) and by credit card - regretfully I didn't spot service ISN'T included (I only realized this when I looked at the receipt the day after). So make sure to bring some cash if you visit, ready to leave a generous tip!

I live near Maldon my son lives in Northamptonshire. He was coming to pick a friend up from Stanstead Airport which is 10 minutes away so found this on the internet. We met up and found this to be a beautiful well appointed restaurant, with very smart, polite and helpful staff. The meal was excellent and not being a Burger lover of McDonalds etc I decided to try their Wood Grill Burger because I thought it might be different. How right I was it was excellent, thick and juicy and thoroughly enjoyed it. My Family, one had steak and the other a Mushroom Risotto both of which they thoroughly enjoyed. Starters were great as well. No complaints at all I can thoroughly recommend this place and we will come again a we pass quiet often.

This was the first time we have been to you and took some friends with us. We booked with you on recommendation and I have to say we were very disappointed. Honest feedback: Food was good but we rushed through it to get out of your restaurant as soon as we possibly could. The reason being is it was way to hot. No air circulating whatsoever. Tables to close to each other. As a result it was extremely noisy. You missed out on further drinks, desserts and coffees being ordered as the overall ambiance was unacceptable.

Unusually quiet for a Thursday lunchtime. Service was good. Friendly staff. All four of us chose fish as the main course albeit different dishes. The dishes were all good. The prices for both meals and wine are reasonable

This restaurant is okay for its food. However, not enough attention to detail with service: Menus laid out on table are insufficient as they get wet and soiled. Wasn’t explained that there was also food on the other side. So missed out on other choices. Staff are efficient but formal and not over friendly. Wrong cutlery supplied for wrong dish. So could do better with a little more enthusiasm. Need to dispose of the flys also. Nothing worse than trying to eat with those winged filth around your plate.

Food is a bit costly but completely worth it if you are ever for a few hours around Stansted airport area, then this is a perfect place to get something to eat. Highly recommend

No Vegan options. Before the snarky comments come - I understand that this is a grill house, I'm not Vegan and have enjoyed eating here in the past, but no Vegan options means that I can't come here with my partner, which I would very much like to do because I remember it being a good place to eat. I rang up and asked about vegan options and was told I could either have salad or pizza without cheese. It's not hard to buy some vegan cheese from a wholesaler and boom! There you go. Something substantial to offer potential customers. You may not realise it, but offering "pizza with no cheese on it, or a salad" is an utter joke.

We had dinner here last night and it was delicious. Staff was friendly and answered my questions re certain food. I had the crispy wings and fillet. Everything was good from start to finish.

booked by my boyfriend as a birthday treat, not sure that food poisoning is a very good present. I tasted ok, had the prawn cocktail and pulled pork, not sure which or these had me throwing up but it was not a pleasant experience. Had eaten nothing but toast that day so pretty sure it came from this restaurant - do not eat here

Dreadful service and disdainful management Can you give 0 stars? Food ordered via Deliveroo due at 18.10. At 18.40 I called, spoke to 3 different employees who gave 5 different reasons. Basically deliveroo either did or didn't pick it up, happens. However the line "we won't give you a refund as its Deliveroos problem, you ordered through their app nothing to do with us, deal with our" was as good a customer service as it got. Then they lied about remedial action they said they'd taken. Then the owner called me to say he'd had restaurants for 25 years and that was how it worked, so don't use Deliveroo and wasn't interested in helping us to get refund, what the staff had said or what I said about my customer experience. So you take your own view, I'll not be spending the £1000's a year I and my family spend there, its a shame as we supported these people through the pandemic,I guess now they are busy they don't care. Update: deliveroo refuse to refund. Don't use either service
