Disappointing, ordered a ploughman’s that arrived with rock hard sourdough bread, this was changed to a soft slice of bread when we brought it to the attention of the staff, wasn’t asked was everything ok at any point, we were totally ignored by the staff in-fact, Although they were extremely friendly to other tables.

Cosy tea rooms, welcoming and friendly. It had a good choice of daily specials and standard items. I opted for coffee and delicious cake. St Clements cake was so full of citrus flavour. The building is beautiful too.

This is a small, cosy cafe. There wasn't anything specifically on the menu that was indicated as vegan but you could order the jacket potato with hummus (though they had sold out by the time we arrived) or the sourdough with hummus and sundried tomato. The soup of the day was also vegan when I ate there. It was a tasty Moroccan tomato soup and came with toasted brown bread. There weren't any vegan cakes but the tiffin and a blueberry slice had been made vegan. I was told that they wouldn't be able to do vegan afternoon teas to order. What a pity, as the afternoon tea looked like it was a very nice treat. The food we had here was tasty but it's a shame they aren't getting on board with more vegan/plant-based offerings. It also wasn't that cheap.

With a long drive north ahead we took a slight detour to this pretty little village tea room. Greeted with a warm smile and attentive service we ordered eggs royale and the sourdough with beetroot hummus, avocado and poached egg respectively. We enjoyed a pot of lemon & ginger tea, coffee and apple juice. Raspberry frangipane complimented our meal. Seating options are outdoors and inside, the interior is simple, clean and welcoming. The service was just perfect as the staff are friendly. The dishes were exceptionally tasty and beautifully presented. The little touches were much appreciated such as chilling the glass of apple juice and providing an appropriately sized pat of butter for the sourdough. The menu is more than sufficient with a pleasing range of drinks. The lunch menu was available from noon. Highly recommended. Five stars!

Tiny, unassuming tea room in Felsted with the best afternoon tea for miles! A hidden gem. We have had afternoon tea at some of the best hotels in London, and this tea was equally good without the huge bill or the travel! Good social distancing, service was faultless. Delicious food with sandwiches, tarts, bagels all with lovely fillings. Great selection of patisserie - very tasty, no style over substance here! The Honeycomb cheesecake was amazing. We managed to squeeze in freshly baked scones, cream and jam. The tea was flowing, the service attentive and the food gorgeous. Go to this tearoom - you won’t be disappointed. Make sure you book.

I decided to go for a long walk, coming from Dunmow, and was told about this place by my sister. When I got there, around lunch time, I was asked if I'd made a booking. I completely forgot to make one but they were very accommodating and the staff rushed to clear a used table for me. I had to sit outside, as they werr fully booked, but it was a nice day, so I didn't mind. The table was sanitised and I was asked for my information for track and trace. I stupidly ordered off the breakfast menu by mistake but one of the staff members, Emma, asked the kitchen if it was okay and they let me have it anyway. I ordered the avocado on toast with beetroot hummus and it was amazing! They seem to be taking the government guidelines very seriously but are still very warm and welcoming. I would recommend this place to anyone and can't wait to come back! :)

Visited with my three children to take advantage of the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme. I booked a table in advance. Staff strictly adhering to the coronavirus regulations which is reassuring. Food choice on menu excellent and a great range of drinks. Food was presented exceptionally well, especially mine which was smoked haddock with a poached egg which was cooked to perfection. Children had desserts which included two cakes which looked and apparently tasted fantastic! All food came out at appropriate times without feeling like you were either rushed or waiting too long. Staff were as friendly as you can be with a face mask! And very professional, good service.Staff were a little disconcerted that I wanted to pay cash which I fully understood with the pressure and fear of virus but again very professional wearing gloves and I placed cash on tray. Sorry lovely staff if I offended you but we must keep a place for cash in society for the elderly and disadvantaged.Overall a lovely meal, one of the best we have had in a long time, excellent presentation and service. Thank you.

On 7th August I went for coffee with a friend. We were asked if we were from different homes and then shown to separate tables in the garden. There were no sanitising products on any of the tables. At 11.30 we were asked to move before lunch time guests arrived at Noon, even though it was completely empty inside. This is a well recommended venue but they have ‘failed’ to consider customers in favour of Covid19 Advice. It is possible to accommodate both without adopting policing tactics. I will be returning to Meadow hill in Dunmow - where Carol has got it right.

We stumbled across this tearoom after having lunch at a local pub (our first proper visit to Felsted). We sat outside and had hot drinks, a cream tea and a slice of raspberry frangipan. Given the small nature of the place the staff have done a great job of adhering to social distancing rules. When we arrived we were asked for our details for track and trace, and also asked how many households we were from so measures could be put in place. Menus were single use paper and staff were wearing face coverings and keeping their distance whilst still being friendly and helpful. The drinks were really good, the flat white was made very well, and the cakes were to die for. Very generous portions and reasonable prices made even better by the eat out to help out scheme which this lovely place has chosen to partake in. This will be the first visit but definitely not the last!

I have been to this delightful tea rooms many times. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We had brunch there last week and mostly this was delicious. I would point out something which is more of a plea to the chef rather than a criticism. I had poached eggs on spinach (eggs florentine). The eggs were perfectly cooked but the spinach was exceptionally salty! These days people mostly are eating less and less salt. In my particular case I prefer to add salt myself where appropriate. Obviously some meals cannot have seasoning left out. But please please go easy with it! In a simple breakfast dish it's unnecessary for a chef to add any salt in my opinion. Anyway I should have said something at the time but chose not to. Your standards are extremely high so I'm staying with 5 stars! A very professionally run place.

Plenty to choose from on the menu including gluten free options. Most of our party had the Wednesday lunch special offering pork belly, crackling and mashed potatoes. On the small side, but delicious and beautifully presented. Soup was a large portion of spicy sweet potato and the desert to go with this menu was plum crumble cake with ice cream. I was surprised that this was served cold, but was plenty big enough and a delicious combo of cake and crumble.

Came for my birthday breakfast with 2 little kids (1 and 4). No kids menu. I ordered eggs Benedict but with hard yolks. My food came well after kids and had runny yolks. So it got redone. By the time it came back the kids had finished eating but yet again my eggs were very runny. I took it back but the chef was rude and insulting saying basically that’s how poached eggs came (despite me not being told it was not possible to do them hard when I ordered- plus you just cook them longer surely?!). He did offer to get me something else but by now the kids had well finished and it wasn’t feasible to wait for it with them on my own. The kids food was delicious I have to say. As was my coffee. But very disappointing that I got no breakfast on my birthday!

We have a list of perhaps half-a-dozen tearooms dotted around Essex, Suffolk that are a class above the rest, establishments that are not only reasonably priced but, above all, consistently maintain their standards of quality and service.Wood Cottage is right up there with the very best. Breakfast, lunch or team; coffee and cakes; service with a smile . . . Wood Cottage ticks every box, and thoroughly deserves the huge ratings it has built up.I believe I am correct, but everything is prepared and cooked on the inhouse, the speciality being cakes and desserts, and the whole team clearly take pride in what they do and enjoy pleasing customers.

We popped in not knowing if we would eat in or takeaway as didn’t know what to expect. With three children we felt like the vibe probably wasn’t right for what we wanted but decided to grab 4 cakes to take away. The lady serving us (possibly the owner) was very knowledgeable about what contained dairy, she was very kind and friendly. We ordered carrot cake, Rookie (cross between brownie and cookie) millionaires shortbread and a walnut and chocolate brownie (dairy free) which came to £19.55 the quality was very good and the cakes were delicious. I will definitely return and would recommend it for couples and cosy catch up lunches with friends.

Having enjoyed several visits here in the past, sadly I shall not be returning. Whilst waiting for my friend to arrive the owner confronted me in the middle of the cafe as he said I shouldn't be parked where I was and that I had run over one of his cones in the car park (I had spoken to a member of staff on arrival who told me he didn't know what the cones were there for and I was fine to park there) I offered to pay for the damaged cones and he said quite aggressively "no, just move your car". I felt very humiliated, especially as I was on my own and this was in front of other customers. Needless to say I moved my car and went elsewhere.
