Slow and surly service. And to make matters worse the bartender could not even pour the drinks properly. Wonder why it was empty.

Had a casual cycle out to HF Broadoak and I fancied coming here for a drink served by the lovely gentleman behind the bar that told me about the ale I was buying because I have not heard of it I had the guest ale from wantsum brewery called 1381 which was the session IPA I highly recommend coming here as I have just seen the negative review before hand I clearly think this is a nice casual social place to have a drink as I don't have the green man down the road in takeley as a proper pub anymore which is now a Thai restaurant good luck to the new ownership here i have just found out from a local below that the pubs gone under new ownership and will give support to this place and I only do volunteer work down the road at HFF

Rude and unfriendly bar staff. Was made to feel v uncomfortable and unwelcome. Took our drinks outside to the deserted and shabby outdoor seating area. Surrounded by dead plants and peeling decking paint, it was unattractive and unappealing, and would explain why there were no other customers Will not return or recommend.

Visited tonight and met the new landlord and manager, who have only taken over this week. A warm welcome was received. They are clearly passionate and intent to provide good beer and food. We're looking forward to returning soon.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch at the last minute. We haven't been here for at least 4 years but we were greeted with a friendly and warm welcome. The food was lovely, tasty and in good portions and the service was excellent. It felt as if you were in a friend's house.

Never had a bad meal here. Sometimes can get busy but it's worth the wait.

Visited this lovely village pub on Saturday 11th December for a meal and night of singing with Vintage Ruby. A great night with a friendly crowd Ruby got the whole pub singing along with a fantastic repertoire. The included meal was served promptly by friendly and efficient staff. Fantastic night look forward to the next one

Thursday night visit about 8:30 after a 10k HBO run. We sat out in the back garden area for an hour, chatting & enjoying the drinks. Nice selection of drinks & we all had different ones. Would recommend a visit to here when in the area.

We were very pleased to be back inside this lovely pub on Sunday for lunch. Service was great as always and the food was lovely. Look forward to visiting again soon.

We have visited before and today was no different. A cheery welcome and excellent service. My little girl was made very welcome and even a change on the menu offered was accommodated for her. Sunday lunch was delicious and we will be coming along again soon

Lovely home cooked food, we had the mushroom and goats cheese burger with chips and salad. The pub seemed very friendly, lots of locals, many returning, some from even the previous day, always a good sign. The food was very tasty and well cooked. The service was friendly and prompt. This is really excellent pub grub. Whether you have the scampi, fish, or home-made pie you are going to receive a simple, but delicious plate of food. The beef & ale pie is simply wonderful. Packed with tender steak and coupled with a excellent gravy. Nice desserts too; especially the rum & raisin ice cream and the two cheesecakes. Service is friendly and efficient and prices are reasonable too. Well worth a drive.

Great food and staff very friendly

Stopped at The Cock Inn on Monday for lunch. We had driven past before so decided to give it a try. Good choice including plenty of specials. We both decided to try the beef burger which was very good. The chips were also nice they reminded me of the ones my Mum would make years ago! Great friendly service. It was very busy with all the tables taken, considering it was a Monday lunchtime. I think we will be back soon to try some more of the menu!

Booked a family meal for eight of us. Menu had plenty of choice, all the usual pub food favourites (steaks, pies, fish, gammon), and a few extras as well. Good to see a choice of vegetarian friendly options, I can recommend the veggie lasagne which was very tasty and filling. Everyone was extremely happy with the food, the service was good and all very reasonably priced.

My partner and I had never visited The Cock Inn before, and we were looking forward to a good lunch and a drink or two in pleasant surroundings. However, after ordering two drinks from the wordless barman/landlord I began to feel as if the lunch part was not a good idea, so we left after one drink and on saying good bye to the barman/landlord was met with total silence. An odd experience to be sure. However, if you are in that neck of the woods, I should try The Dukes Head instead.

Good brisket! Service was excellent as always. Brilliant local.

Ordered simple fish and chips and got presented with a very poor effort. Only half a portion of tasty fish but terribly dry peas and the smallest portion of not very nice chips . No difference between kids size and adults yet adults cost £12.95 and presented on the same kids plates. Scampi (9 pieces) was much the same effort. Pizza was also not good quality much the same as a cheap supermarket oven pizza. Didn't leave with any satisfaction even after complaining still being presented with full price bill, hence the need to write this!! Definitely won't be returning soon.

Nice local pub, good selection of beers on tap. Shows international rugby games. Nice tables outside to watch the bikes rumble by on a weekend afternoon.

My wife, my son and his family and I, ate here recently on a Sunday - the food was very nice and the staff lovely - will eat here again.

Traditional country pub with cosy inside for Winter and lovely beer garden, with good wine list but underwhelming menu and food. £5 for a small bread roll and small jar of olives starter-come on, that’s taking the mickey.

cousin took us here for lunch and we were not disappointed . The meals were so large and food lovely In fact couldn't eat it all so the waitress packed the remainder up in a lovely box and gave it to me to take away There were five of us and we all had something different on the menu and we all enjoyed them they were baked stuff potatoes, Aurbergine stack Burger, Ham,egg and chips, and Pulled pork the menu had a good selection to choose from.

Spent two weeks in the UK and this was the best meal we had. Super friendly and welcoming staff, the food is phenomenal across the board, and the experience was great. We would’ve eaten here everyday if we could. We especially loved the Brie and Peppercorn chicken, the fish and chips, and the steak and stillton pie! The only regret we have is we didn’t save enough room for dessert, because they sounded wonderful! A special thank you to our wonderful waitress with the beautiful eyelashes, we just wish we had caught her name! I would recommend this to absolutely everyone!

Fantastic village pub with an extensive menu of delicious food. There is definitely something for everyone. Desert Menu is a must! All freshly cooked & served by helpful & accommodating staff. Lovely little beer garden tucked away up through the archway.

Lovely country town pub, that proudly offers their freshly made food. As first time visitors we enjoyed a warm welcome and great food. The steak & ale pie and fish & chips were clearly made by a chef with a passion for good English cooking. The sherry cake desert was nice but could have been more convincing. Service with a smile. We'll be back.

Visited with my son for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon - very friendly & efficient staff & amazing traditional pub food. A starter of lamb skewers came with salad & a mint, cucumber yoghurt dip - it was lovely & an extremely generous portion. My son had the small rump steak which was also super. If you are in the area give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Food was reasonably priced but £3.45 for a lime and soda is outrageous

Went to The Cock Inn Last Nights for date night with my husband, the meal was fantastic excellent food my husband had a Steak which was excellently cooked and tasted amazing and I had the Brisket which was full of taste and very enjoyable to eat. We didn’t have dessert as meals was quite big a filling, but what I saw coming out of the kitchen look yummy. We had a young Bubbly waitress who was very professional. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this place.

Friendly staff. Lunch served until 4 pm on Saturday, which was what we needed due to late arrival. Good menu offering baguettes, jacket potatoes as well as full meals.

Unfortunately we got there before the health inspector. Overpriced, very poor quality food, incompetent waitress service and the owner doesn’t particularly care. Needless to say we won’t be returning.

This is our fourth time eating at The Cock Inn , Hatfield Broad Oak, and every meal has been delish Went there yesterday Sunday , to a packed out great atmosphere friendly staff and booked for an hour later for lunch. We had a stroll around beautiful HBO village and back into The Cock Inn for our lunch , we had roast lamb which cane with huge Yorkshire pudding! Excellent perfectly cooked fresh vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, beans and a carrot & swede mash with perfect roast potatoes and perfectly cooked lamb. I can wholeheartedly say it’s the best Sunday roast I ever tasted .

Before I describe possibly the best pub lunch ever I just want to quickly paint a picture of my previous culinary week; so had just stepped off a flight from Puglia, Southern Italy, & having enjoyed some truly fabulous meals, wine etc a humble pub lunch back in England might struggle to compete... well the staff The Cock Inn had nothing to fear!

The Cock Inn is a small, cozy, old fashioned pub with great traditional pub grub. All the food is freshly cooked (they do lovely home made chips) and made on the premises. The menu is extensive with pies, burgers, steaks, fish, baked pastas & home smoked meats such as pulled pork. There are starters such as whitebait, chicken wings & crayfish salad (also available as a main), whilst side orders include sweet potato fries which are delicious with a topping of melted cheese!! There are also good veggie options & a specials board.

Very friendly staff and good honest food. Large portions all very tasty. Can recommend as a place to eat.

Fell across this place whilst travelling. Lovely old inn serving ales and Sunday lunch. Great little village pub well worth a visit if you enjoy country pubs in great locations.

went here for Sunday lunch yesterday I had the roast rib of beef and it was really delicious the potion size was good would have liked more gravy, husband had the steak & ale pie which he said was again delicious. Service was really friendly. we will be eating here again.

My mum and I went for lunch at The Cock Inn yesterday 9th March, The food is always fantastic so we knew what to expect but this review is mostly based on the fabulous waitress who served us Natalie, this woman is a credit to The Cock Inn and from start to finish the service we received was as I have stated above 5 star quality!! what a lovely warm and welcoming lady who obviously really enjoys her job, we hope that she gets to be our waitress again as she really lifted our spirits and brightened our day.

Been here a few times mostly in the week and usually service really good - booked a table for Sunday roast had a starter and just finish our roast was told by the waitress when we were deciding what to have for a sweet that they needed us to be finished in 20 minutes as they had another customer - we had been there 1 hour and 20 minutes - we weren’t told this when we arrived - then was asked if they could move our table to get another one in

Have been coming to the cock for food for years it never fails to disappoint, superb food portion sizes are huge hope you’ve got an appetite, great menu selection traditional good home cooking with fresh ingredients! The atmosphere in the pub is cozy and relaxing a great place to be in the heart of Hatfield broadoak! Their ice cream menu is superb 18 flavours of ice cream, my fiancé couldn’t just have one he had SIX!!! The staff and waitress so accommodating and friendly. As always will definitely be returning!

This place is brilliant, I always make time to come here for a meal when in Essex. The food is spectacularly good, the pies, the fries, and especially the home smoked brisket. Last night I had the minted lamb steaks which were far, far better than anything I've been served in London for months. I'm half tempted to go there again today!

We happened on this pub by chance and oh boy what a find. Initially there was no table as it was Sunday lunch time but we were found a table and enjoyed the most excellent meal. We both had the ribs which not only huge, were so yummy . We finished off with a homemade apple and mixed fruit crumble. Excellent, attentive and friendly service. Thank you very much. Returned to HBO after 34 years to have a look round. Decided to lunch at The Cock. Very friendly, food was lovely and served with a smile. It was my birthday and my desert was served with a candle a the staff singing 'Happy Birthday'... Memories are made of this. Thanks.
