Wok experience in Powys

OMG I don't usually do reviews but having spoken to the little girl who was doing her homework while helping to run a genuine family business, one I have eaten at for over 4 years. I am moved to challenge some of the reviews. I come from Liverpool which has had the biggest and earliest Chinese community in the World, outside of China, until very recently. I therefore have eaten Chinese food my whole life and this is one of the BEST places you will EVER find. This Family can cook! The service is never less than lovely and EVERYTHING I have eaten EVERY TIME has been of the highest quality. Thank you guys for being in my little Welsh village! Much Love John Paul x

Over a hour wait for worst Chinese I have ever had, prawn balls where just cold prawns in so much dough with no crisp batter just congealed in my mouth, chicken chow mien was tasteless and cold and the prawn crackers just tasted of oil, better off driving to Abergavenny to the sing lee where the food is quicker better and cheaper

Was told an hour and 10 mins when ordering at the takeaway, which was a small simple order. Whilst waiting lots of people came ordered and got there food after we had ordered. When we did get the food it was cold and tasteless so clearly wasn't fresh which made me question why an earth we had to wait as long as we did. Luckily only here for a weekend but would not recommend.

It was a chilly day & we were looking forward to some hot & sour soup... boy, were we ever disappointed! Hot & sour soup should have very few ingredients... tofu, mushrooms, onion, & a few other things... it should b very thin, spicy & should NEVER... EVER contain shrimp, duck, chicken or other meats! It was thick, grainy, reddish-orange & actually had a few types of meat... it actually made me sick & we won’t b back... I gave the place 2 stars because the fried rice & vegetables were good

It has always been a difficult task to find consistently decent chinese food in this area. Thought we'd try Gourmet Wok Experience and were not disappointed. Excellent ribs, satay chicken, sweet and sour pork, orange chicken, veg noodles and curry sauce. Hot and sour soup was the best I've had outside of London. Really impressed 👏

Tried ringing on numerous occasions and they never ever answer the phone. How they get business is beyond me. What is the point in having a takeaway if people cannot ring to order

The set meal for two is highly recommended. More than enough and very tasty. Spent a few hours in the area and really pleased we found this takeaway

We ordered 7 different main dishes, all the family enjoyed. My favourite item was the crispy shredded beef. Would definitely recommend to friends & family

We were staying at a local campsite and phoned our order in, they took payment by card over the phone and then delivered to our campsite - great service. The food was very nice, chicken fried rice, veg chow Mein, curry sauce and chips, very large portions and delivery was really quick. This is the fourth time we have ordered from this takeaway and the food has always been nice

We used this place the first night of our holiday. Arrived late and therefore ordered late. The property was in a really narrow road but they still delivered free which was superb. Fantastic flavour, really hot and good size portions. Liked it so much that we ordered again two days later! Highly recommend

We had ear marked this as a takeaway night but pizza was our first choice - dashed at the first hurdle by f&c shop not doing pizzas anymore! Gourmet Wok Experience to the rescue. The flavours were pretty good, Singapore Chow Mein had just the right amount of kick, Chicken & Cashews was nice but a little bit wet, crispy seaweed great, egg fried rice good, and Crispy Duck Pancakes really good. Quantities amazing, so worth remembering as well aligned a meal from it the next day.

Called in for a bite to eat while passing threw what a big mistake food was vile ordered sweet and sour chicken the batter was the worst I.v ever had from anywhere bland dry no crispness at all...the sauce never seen anything like it thin wouldn't stick to anything like a syrup...chips dry cheap basic frozen ones and still raw vile....pancake roll a big soggy greasy blob hardly any meat in...would I return NO not if they paid me...

This was the worse Chinese meal I have ever had. The 'crispy' chow mein was soggy and sitting in a watery sauce. The sweet and sour pork was tasteless, just some onions and a few bits of pineapple. Both went in the bin after a few mouthfuls.

This is the best Chinese takeout I have had ever. I'm staying at the Manor Hotel and my travelling companion is a bit fussy and wanted rice dish so I looked up the eateries in town. We ordered from what is an endless menu a vegetable curry, hot and sour soup and prawns with ginger and spring onions and rices. All the food is packed with flavour, fresh vegetables and freshly cooked to order. My last takeaway they made up the order in ten minutes (another takeaway) no kidding and the food looked like it had been thrown together and tasted awful. I waited and the results show the prawn dish is full of flavour and fresh veg , the curry again packed vegetables with curry flavour, the hot and sour soup was full of tasty stuff. I will never have this experience again!

Crispy duck was so dry it stopped my jaw moving. Threw it in the bin. Disgusting. Chips were gross, had a bag full of hard, over cooked dog end chips, you know all the hard pointy end bits. threw them straight in the bin. Don't bother!

My family eat here regularly (usually about once a month). We always order in advance on the phone and the food is usually ready to collect in 10-15 minutes. They are very flexible and will happily leave out/ substitute any ingredients you don't like or can't eat with ones you like. The portions are a good size and I often save half to eat the next day. The prices are reasonable and the staff are always friendly. Of all the Chinese take-aways I have had over the years, this is definitely one of the best.

Ok it was bank holiday weekend and Crickhowell was busy but a wait of 30 minutes or more wasn't acceptable. So I left without buying anything.

service was a bit slow but this was due to being so busy. Great food, generous portions and excellent chouce for the vegetarian members of the family. Pleasant staff were realistic about the wait time so no problem.

En los últimos años hemos tenido muchos tomar decente de aquí, pero no estoy seguro de qué es lo que ha sucedido recientemente. En primer lugar, no parece que contesta el teléfono, de hecho pensamos que debe ser cerrado. Fuimos a la orden en el mostrador y el asistente cuando le preguntaron dijeron que habían sido ocupados, pero nadie estaba allí! La comida era bastante pobre, me temo que no vamos a volver.

Een combinatie van friture en afhaalchinees. Niet de Nederlandse gerechten, maar wel hetzelfde idee. Op de menukeert staan allemaal verschillende gerechten gesorteerd op vleessoort. Met 2 man 4 gerechten is te veel voor 2 dagen. De prijs viel mee en het eten was zeer lekker. Blijkbaar hebben ze er ook fish&chips;, maar die hebben we niet geprobeerd.

Visited here on the 17th october as i was passing through, appaling customer service young girl at counter had no manners, took our order no please or thankyou and had a cant be bothered attitude to us and was more interested in what she had behind counter,no interest in interacting with customers, have been here before and found other staff friendly and helpful but not this time, wont be back!

I dont like leaving totally negative comments about any establishment but this place is just awful alot of it went in the bin being inedible No taste at all between dishes This is the worst chinese ever never going again

We had dinner from here a couple of times, and it offers very good value takeaway meals. Good size portions, cooked to a good standard for such meals.

My friend and I were craving something non-Welsh one night and had heard good things about Wok Experience. So we popped in, got some takeaway, and went to eat in our hotel room. We were both thrilled with our choices. Our only complaint is that it was too much food to eat in one sitting, and we sadly had to throw some out.

We visited the shop 2 days ago and ordered some chinese food. The girl who took our order was really friendly and helpful and even the cook come out too and have a bit of chat with us. They were kind and finished our order quickly. So if we going back to the area again we will come back to have some chinese dishes here :-)

It pains me a little to write a negative review having had some good takeaway Chinese meals here in the past but the one last Saturday ended up in the waste bin pretty quickly. I'm not sure who did the cooking that night but there was little to distinguish their beef & mushrooms from the beef with green peppers and black bean sauce. Both were bland and totally tasteless - £20 down the drain (or in the bin). There are plenty of Chinese takeaways around so this is one we shall be avoiding in the future. In their business you are only as good as the last meal you serve and this was really not up to the mark. I hope someone at this establishment takes note!

The atmosphere in the Bear was great, food lovely, enjoyed it but found the burger at £13 to be overpriced, shame because everything else was great.

We visited Wok experience & after waiting 15 minutes in the queue were informed that there would be a 45 minute wait (!) for chips as they had a telephone order for 18 meals. Several people including myself walked out vowing never to go back. Did they not care about their reputation? The 18 orders were from the local campsite, people who would probably never return! Wok experience lost a lot of business that day.

fish and chips were great, a little on the expensive side but not ridiculous. food took a while but we did really enjoy it after a long day walking

This place is a chinese and a chip shop. If you ask for a large fish n chips that is definately what you will get...a large fish and chips was enough for me to share with my partner. The curry sauce was lush and the batter is always fresh and nice. We have stopped by here a few times now and have never been disapointed. great value for money too :-)

I was starving and in need of an egg fried rice.Without doubt the best i have ever tasted and not over priced. Very good portions.Friendly staff as well with a smile and thats all it takes.
