My wife and I visit this little cafe for breakfast whenever we are London. Though quite small inside with just a few tables it really is a little gem of a place and, for London, not too expensive either. Importantly, you don't have to wait too long for your meal to arrive once your order has been taken, which is a great bonus especially when trying to pack as much sightseeing into the day as possible. Breakfast is cooked to order and a wide choice of traditional breakfast fare is available including Earl Grey tea! Judging by the number of people buying coffee and bacon baps to take away it is also a very popular place with people who work in the area.

We noticed wings whilst walking to another eatery and the food looked lovely and it seemed busy so we went in for brunch as we missed breakfast. We had two paninis and sides of chips with a cup of tea. My wife had the cheese and mushroom and I had a chicken and cheese. Food was served quickly and was very hot (always nice)... the tea was as good as tea can be! I would say the cheese should be more strong to add flavour. Other than that I would recommend - maybe would say it was a tad expensive but guess it’s London (we expect it). Would recommend

Found this cafe on a rainy bank holiday Monday. It was open early when other places weren’t. Ordered two full English breakfasts and we weren’t disappointed. Eggs - any way you like, sausage, 2 bacon, mushrooms and baked beans. Buttered toast on the side and a large cup of your favourite. Oddly the food arrived on rectangular plates which I hate. Just give me plain old round ones please! Staff were very friendly. The decor is tired and toilet is virtually outside. Someone else wrote “don’t expect much and you won’t be disappointed”! I’d agree. But still a decent cooked breakfast. All in less than £20 and the place takes cards.

Don't expect much, and you will not be disappointed. Good coffee, standard cafe/Italian options, and a welcome from staff.I liked it because it was a flavour of London of 30+ years ago. The decor was dated the place is tired, but far better than the sterile chain coffee shops and small restaurants.

I ordered a takeaway bacon and egg bap. The roll was fresh, but sadly the bacon and egg weren't. I've no doubt they were cooked the same morning, but they were then reheated in the microwave – and not for long enough either. The bacon was also extremely fatty (may have been just bad luck of the draw), which added to my misery. I was the only person waiting to be served, although there were a couple of people sitting at tables. The staff were friendly enough, but the food really let them down. Given how many similar places to eat there are around Covent Garden, I expect more from the food. Especially considering how quickly you can cook an egg... The price was £4.30 – fairly standard for London.

Having been working in Holborn, I have been searching for a proper no frills sandwich shop. I found it - absolute gem. A good variety of food and fillings (baked potatoes, salads etc.) and I can speak for the sandwiches because that's what I had. High quality ingredients and packed with filling for £3.70 which is not bad for a tasty and filling sandwich in central London. The guy serving was really helpful, welcoming, didn't rush me. The service really added to the atmosphere.I wouldn't be visiting any chain restaurants/cafes for a sandwich lunch again in Holborn! I need to go back soon as I spotted the coronation chicken filling which looked amazing. There was lots of delicious looked pre-made fillings. I'd walked past the cafe loads of times and not noticed it but now that I've been, I can't recommend enough.

In fact, it was just a little too much to finish completely with a little bit of the crusty bread left on the side of the plate. I chose the Tuna melt sandwich, from the extensive menu, that came with a side salad and coleslaw. This was very filling and was made using a delicious crusty bread. My wife had already eaten and only had a cup of coffee. Her large cup was bigger than expected but tasted excellent. The current hygiene rating is 2 (Improvement necessary) from a March 2016 inspection but are not deterred by that and may well chose to eat there again if we need a quick and filling bite to eat.

I ordered a cheese & ham panini from here and was asked if I would like parma ham, to which I replied yes. The ham in my panini wasn't parma ham, but just standard, which I obviously didn't know until I got back to my office to eat it. This wouldn't be a problem in itself (I'm not that fussy), but the ham I did get was so overly salty that I had to take it out of the panini. Even then the rest of the panini was inedible as all I could taste was the salty ham and the mozzarella and sundried tomatoes were really poor quality.I'm sure a standard sausage sandwich or toast with spread is fine from here, but if you're treating yourself to a cheesy panini, it'll be wasted calories!

Into the back room and it is a proper English breakfast establishment, choose the number of items you want on your plate, tea or coffee, choice of toasted bread, sit back and enjoy, and do you want brown or red sauce with it.It's cooked perfectly, the plumpest sausage I've had in ages, the egg fried to perfection, it's the best breakfast I've had for a while. The coffee is good, I just wish I'd come here years earlier when I first started staying at the Fielding.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I recently attended a seminar in Great Queen Street, London. This is just off Drury Lane which is close to theatres, museums, libraries etc in the Holborn area. It's just a short walk from everywhere. The cafe presents as bustling and vibrant from the outside, being a vivid dark red colour and having a thick melee of people hovering around the entrance. Don't be fooled, it's all smoke and mirrors because the entrance itself is big enough for "the cat", but no swinging is allowed here! You could not get 2 people abreast in their entrance unless they were anorexic which would be ironic. Although technically you could get a wheelchair through the entrance and past the narrow counter area to get into the seating area it would require the complete evacuation of the entrance area to achieve this. Oh and I didn't see any signs for a toilet, (not that I required one). So anybody with ailments or older people with mobility issues might want to give this place a once over before entering. Perhaps somebody who arrived needing the loo might give us more information? Okay that's the bad bit over, everything from here on in is all positive....The back area widens out to accommodate roughly 20 people sat down. I didn't count but that's how it felt. The place is cleaned regularly, the floor was not covered in food debris or grease and the seats and the welcome were warm and inviting in a functional way. There was nowhere to hang your coats up so you had to drape them over the back of your chair which, if your coat was long, would then mean it dragged on the floor or worse might have been trodden upon by customers walking past you to sit down. You aren't ever going to get luxury here because there isn't the room for it. This place has a high turnover of discerning clients that require good food, good value, all wrapped up in a good place, without heirs or graces. My kind of place to be honest.I had bacon and eggs, (I'm not allowed carbs), and 2 coffees. The quality was good, the portion size adequate and the coffee was the highlight. This cost me £8 something and I felt like it was worth every penny. During my 60 minute stay between 12:15 and 13:15 on a typical working Thursday lunchtime I was surrounded by languages as diverse as Chinese, Dutch, French, a couple of loud Portguese or Brazilian chaps, (I am never sure between those two) but no English speaking people. So it would seem that if you are the cosmopolitan type this would suit you down to the ground. I am aware that the Freemasons use it a lot before they go into their sessions at the big Freemasons hall just 2 minutes walk from here. FYI this is where they filmed the British TV drama Spooks and some (not sure how much) of Poirot with David Suchet. I had reason to go past it afterwards and was glad the large contingency of musicians didn't feel the need for a cup of amazing coffee, or indeed a quick wee, prior to their performance. All that said, I would definitely return, but maybe on a Saturday morning for coffee and pastries whilst visiting London. It's a place where you feel they aren't out to rip you off. Which in London has to be a major bonus for tourists.

Whenever we are in London, we stay at The Fielding Hotel, just off Bow Street, in Covent Garden. I have written a separate review about The Fielding. But it doesn't offer breakfast, so on the receptionist's recommendation we tried Wings, just round the corner in Drury Lane. Look in the window and all you see is a sandwich shop (though a rather superior, Italian, sandwich shop, with all sorts of nice-looking things to take-out).But squeeze past the customers at the counter and you enter a little café which serves breakfast of exceptional quality and exceptional value. In two recent trips, we had on the first occasion the 'full English'. We choose five of the seven options - from memory, bacon, eggs, sausage, mushroom and grilled tomato. With granary toast and a big cup of tea, that came to a little over £7 each.Last week, however, he had had an excellent dinner the evening before, and wanted something lighter. The 'de-luxe' breakfast included scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, and with the toast and tea or coffee cost the staggering sum of £8. All served promptly by a charming waitress. What more could you ask? It's not the place for a romantic encounter: it's a very good caff, which I highly recommend. One tip: unless you like builder's tea, ask for 'very weak'. Or choose coffee. the coffee is excellent.
