Wing's in Powys

The last time I had food from here was about 20 years ago, and it wasn't good. Despite living locally, it was bad enough for me to avoid it for all that time, and learn how to cook that cuisine myself. Surely they must have got better over the space of two decades and deserve another chance? The answer? No. They haven't. The "stir fried vegetables" showed no evidence of being stirred, or fried. Whilst at least retaining some texture, they seemed to have been warmed through (lightly poached?) in a rather bland gravy. The stir fried noodles were VERY greasy. The onions were not at all charred, and not even a hint of Wok Hei. Bland and seemed to lack ANY seasoning. In desperate need of white pepper, soy sauce & sesame oil. Egg fried rice. Greasy again, although not as much as the noodles. Again, no seasoning. Nothing in the way of soy sauce, oyster sauce or sesame oil. Really REALLY bland. I'd love to support a local business, but it looks like I'm still cooking my own Chinese food for the foreseeable future. I've been generous and given them a two. The food WAS at least edible, but really not good. It's a real shame, and I hope they read the detail I've given as being constructive criticism.

Being out of town, sometimes you just want a comforting Chinese takeaway. Wings does this. Being tucked away in a small welsh town, I understand you may have your doubts, unsure whether you’ll get that old school takeaway taste but you need not worry, Wings has your back! Reasonably priced with all your favourites. Get yourself down there!

Stayed just outside of Rhayader camping and fancied a takeaway on the final night. Couple of pints opposite at the Lamb the over to Wings to collect Beef in Black Pepper, Chicken balls, sweet & sour sauce, chips, egg fried rice. Was reasonably priced and tasted great. Quick friendly service, would definitely recommend.

Food was delicious, piping hot and good portion size, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Egg fried Rice, Chips, Orawn Cracker’s and House Special Rice. We ordered Plain Chow Mein but it did not arrive. Not blaming Wing’s May have been Me.

I’ll start with the rather bizarre service. Customers are restricted to a small zone inside the front door, barricaded by old bar stools and pieces of card with hand written notices to stay where you are. The staff are hidden behind a Perspex screen some 4m away receiving shouted orders. When they appear to get your money they done a pointless face visor. Anyway ‘covid paranoia’ aside, the food is appalling. Prawn balls uncooked in a thick stodgy batter. Pork balls over cooked to a powdery crisp. Egg fried rice was not egg fried rice but a brown greasy fried rice. The meal was binned as it was to far to take it back. I may never eat Chinese food again. Disgusting.

Note that although listed as a restaurant, Wing's is a takeaway only. We ordered food on 2 occasions during a stay in Rhayader. Portions and prices are good, but the food is not. The cook seems to be heavy on the soy sauce - whether fried rice, chop suey or stir fried noodles. 'Roasted pork in batter' was chunks of char siu pork in a spongy and oily batter. The 'dry' stir fried noodles were swimming in sauce. I have had Singaporean noodles many times and it is always rice vermicelli noodles cooked dry with chilli and a little curry powder but at Wing's it is made with chow mein-style egg noodles in a claggy, brown sauce. This is not Singapore noodles! The one thing they got right (according to my Asian wife) was the boiled rice! Avoid!!

Absolutely disgusting food. Really shouldn't be in business. Ordered egg fried rice, sweet and sour prawn balls, plus four other dishes. On opening boxes every dish looked exactly the same. Totally cremated. Just awful. If it wasn't for the fact we were staying miles away and just passing through we would have taken it back. I know how difficult times are for everyone but these people need to know you cannot survive in business serving up this appalling rubbish. The worst meal I've ever tried to eat. Shame.

We had chicken chow mein, crispy chilli beef and banana fritter. The chow mein was quite dark, had hardly any chicken and only veg was onion and peas!?? Chilli beef lacked flavour had loads of chunky slices of onion with it, but was a good texture. The fritter was more stodgy batter than banana with plenty of syrup. Was edible but won't be rushing back

We visit this Chinese every time we visit Rhayader. Great food. Friendly service and good quality food.

I would describe the food as ok but not good. I found the chow mein had a rather unpleasant taste. It was very dark. Perhaps that is just the way they prepare that dish here. There was a distinct lack of mushrooms and other fresh vegetables. The chips were ok but nothing special. We also had the Kung po chicken which was good. A good pancake roll. Portion size pretty standard. We wouldn't return and found the experience a little disappointing as have other reviewers. Maybe that's what happens when you don't have any competition in the area. They wouldn't survive serving this standard of food in our local town where you have 5 Chinese takeaways all of which provide better food than this plus offer free delivery.

My favourite Chinese go here all the time, their special fried rice, pancake rolls, sweet and sour chicken and chow mien dishes are all brilliant, my family travel 14 miles to go to this 1, keep up your fab cooking

Received wrong order owner adamant we ordered a shrimp curry for a vegetarian shut the door on us no money given back, we wasn’t going to use again as last time we used them we all had sickness for a few days, AVOID AVOID AVOID we only made the mistake as it was local and we had been working all day! Won’t make that mistake again!

Although the menu does not state this, it is 'CASH ONLY' I am not exaggerating when I say that this was the worst Chinese meal I have ever had!!! The egg fried rice smelled like coffee???? The Singapore noodles left a powdery aftertaste! The Szechuan was tasteless! The Curry was tasteless and powdery! A complete waste of £32

Me and my family are locals and we get a takeaway here all the time - I especially love their beef stir fried rice and we have never had a complaint! Staff are so lovely and honestly don’t know what the other reviewers are complaining about

I must say, im surprised by all the negative reviews for this place. We tried it the other day whilst we were away on holiday and found all the food to be of a very good standard. Whilst we were in the area we went to some terrible places, cant believe you think this place should be ranked lower than them (see my other review on 'Triangle Inn' The staff were really friendly and welcoming. In fact, all the dishes we ordered were really tasty. We had the Spring rolls (really crisp and flavourful, not at all greasy), Chilli Beef (again, another tasty dish), Spare Ribs - amazing, so tender with a lovely sauce and Chicken & Ham rice, which again, was really nice. Would certainly recommend ordering from here.

The worst we have ever tasted. Absolutely disgusting! I would rather stave! DON’T waste your money. Seriously!!

Not very good, pork balls were very overcooked, tough nearly burnt. Special curry was OK but quite bland. Mushroom satay was the wrong dish entirely, probably a mixed veg Szechuan. We ended up throwing a lot away, very disappointing.

Excellent friendly service and food. We use them regularly and the food is always hot and tasty. Ignore the poor reviews and give it a try.

Stopped here to pick up some food while on a weekend away , food was good chicken curry rice and a few other starters not sure why the other reviews are so bad food was tasty warm and it fill the hole.

It's fine for what it is - a local Chinese takeaway in the middle of nowhere with very limited options around. Having lived in Asia for years I can happily say it's not fine Chinese cuisine, however it's no worse than most standard Chinese takeaways you get in the UK. It's not restaurant quality but it isn't restaurant prices either.Food wasn't salty and it was enjoyable enough to eat instead of cooking in the rain while camping.Thanks!

Used this takeaway a number of times with no problems at all. Service is very friendly and food has always been freshly prepared and very tasty.

I tried to order over the phone. I told them my wife had allergies and they absolutely refused to take my order.

Before I start, a couple of things. It's cash only and it gets busy so if you're holidaying maybe pick up a menu on the first night and phone an order in for the second night. Having said that, this was a great little place to eat. We tried a variety of dishes and they were all good. The spare ribs were a particular treat and the mushroom chow mein was really tasty.It was really good value too. Piping hot and great flavours.

I've been a regular here for several years staff are warm and friendly and have often stayed open a little late for me to pick up a meal after hours when travelling home. Food is usually tasty and needjbg a few minutes uses to cool down so clearly fresh made. House special dried rice is a meal in itself but hold the gravy sauce it's the standard Chinese gravy and doesn't do the rest of the dish justice.

If you're staying over in Rhayader for a few nights you really must have a take-out from wings. We've been visiting for many years and always look forward to their spare ribs. Reasonably priced take-out and we've never had a bad meal.

I really do not know what went wrong here. The special fried rice seemed to be in a gravy, the sweet and sour was not. The duck was fatty, even for duck. I think this is the worst Chinese meal that I have had in and out of China.

We had a Chinese last night and it was the best Chinese we have had. This is our local Chinese and have never had a problem. I think it's good value for money and it's a very quick service.

WE have tried this Chinese take away 3 times. It was tasteless and greasy every time. No more chances, we won't be going back. The worst chinese food we have ever tasted.

Las paredes están cubiertas en los avisos que le informa de todas las razones por las que no te dan un reembolso que me impactó como extraño. Una vez recibida la comida me di cuenta de por qué. . . La mayoría fue asqueroso Chino que he pedido! También mal mi pedido así que regresé el plato intacto y pregunté por las 3 libras de la restitución a la que me dijeron que estaba mintiendo y que iban a checar el circuito cerrado! ! Entonces se negó la devolución en frente de otros clientes y me dijeron que era mi culpa que dieron la orden equivocada. Comportamiento extraño de los dueños de negocios. Y verdaderamente comida asquerosa.

Vimos las críticas anteriores y estaba un poco preocupado, pero pensé: "qué demonios". Resulta que estoy feliz de haberlo hecho. Zona de atención al cliente era bonito y estaba limpio y ordenado. Pedimos la comida para tres y estaba perfectamente bien. El chico joven que nos servía era muy agradable y amable. No tengo quejas y probablemente volveremos

The food was not tasty. Chicken in the Chow mein even tasted sour and didn't look like chicken anymore. Wished we had chosen the take away across the road instead!
