Popped here mid walk with the family. We had 2 fantastic “light” fish and chips. Which at £13 is the same as the chip chop. Big fresh fish, hot and crispy batter (not oily) and a big plate of real potato chunky chips. Kids meals were a great size (big enough for a young teenagers) fish for the boy and chicken goujons for the girls. Both ate the lot and it was very good value (also the option of chips or fries for the meals). Nice staff and relaxed comfortable vibes. Would definitely go again. I have no idea what the bad reviews are about the people posted. Also good Lilly’s coffee and the pot of tea was massive with 2 tea bags so happy to sit and chill.

Where do i start with this hovel!! The food was atrocious. I ordered the gammon and I got a chicken? I’m not sure what sort of idiot in the kitchen can’t decipher the difference between a pig and a chicken but it’s ridiculous. I was then given a blue wicked rather than a red wine, appalling! I raised this with the bar staff as I was concerned about their hearing or eye sight. I heard one of the barstaff call me a ditsy b**** , disgusting way to treat a customer. No toilet roll in toilets so i had to improvise (i won’t go into further detail). Me and my respectable family will not be returning to such a pig sty again.

A big shout out to Ciaran! Last Saturday whilst out solo hiking I lost my mobile, and as we know, we rely heavily on these small devices. I managed to find my way back to my car, a short walk away from The Wilson’s Arms. I walked in and I was in panic mode, could barely get my words out. Ciaran went above and beyond to help calm me down. He even gave me his personal mobile for me to communicate with friends and family back home! The pub became very busy, in fact all the tables were taken; Ciaran, despite being busy still came to check on me. As I sat waiting for a call back, I looked around and the food being served looked 5* quality; as a foodie myself I know quality when I see it! Everyone was saying how amazing the food was and I saw many going up to the bar complementing the chef. As a frequent Lakes visitor I will return to sample those dishes, for sure. Thanks again Ciaran, you were amazing. I’m looking forward to visiting again, under less stressful times.

We visited the Wilson's on two occasions and left disappointed both times. On our first visit we booked a table for Sunday evening and were promised over the phone that roast would be available. When we arrived our table was not clean and no one was able to clean it for us. And we were greeted with a long list for dishes that were not available including our promised roasts. This meant there were only 2/3 options left to pick on the menu. When I have worked in pubs previously we would always prioritise booked tables over walk ins and ensure there was food left for the bookings, so was disappointed with the lack of food left to choose from. When we ordered drinks we were asked to show ID (understandable) the girl then took our driving licences off us and took them into the kitchen for 5 minutes with no explanation given. We were totally confused why she was taking this information down and what they were doing with it, did not feel comfortable with them noting down all of our personal details and how they are storing it (GDPR??). The food was of an okay standard but definitely overpriced. We visited a second time as we were staying nearby and wanted to give them a second chance. We sat in the garden and when we ordered drinks at the bar we were charged £45 for 5 drinks this seemed expensive so I went back to question whether we had been overcharged and the girl at first said she had undercharged us. I then asked the price of each item and she realised I had in fact been charged for a bottle of wine instead of a glass, so she begrudgingly refunded me £15. The girl that served me then went into the kitchen and made a snarky comment to the chef. We then ordered food from the outside menu, when we collected food from the bar it was presented in takeaway boxes. The portion size was drastically smaller from the eat in menu but they are still charging the same over inflated price. £20 for a burger and a dozen chips seems excessive, when you have to eat with wooden cutlery and collect the order yourself. Overall disappointed with the rude service and overcharging. Interested to hear what they do with the recorded information from my driving licence.

where do i begin we were sat outside because we had a dog so dont come here if you have a dog , we waited over an hour for our meals and they were presented in takeway boxes when we whent to collect our meals we realised a meal was missing so we whent back to the bar to question what had just happened and they hadn’t even put the meal on the order even though we repeated it twice when we finally got to our meals they were awful i orderd hallumi fries and a mozzarella and tomato salad my hallumi was cold and the salad( i will attach a picture)was definitely not worth £8 , after waiting another 20 minutes for the missing meal it was completely wrong as my friend orderd a beef burger not a chicken burger all in all this was a painful experience and definitely not worth the prices they are charging , they also failed to mention that you couldnt order certain items of the menue if you were sat outside so my other friend had to re decide whilst stood at the bar i wouldn’t recommend this to anyone!

This place is a godsend if you're hungry and you've been unable to park in Coniston. Parking here is easy and the place and service are pleasant enough but the food is quite grim. I had the burger and I wouldn't have eaten it had I been less desperate and my wife was similarly unimpressed with her fish and chips. But service was smiley and good so it wasn't that bed.

Stayed 3 nights at one of the Shepherds Huts -Daisy. It’s was clean, stocked with a few days of wood for the Hot tub (extra wood was £7.50 a bag)and they provided some necessities like cleaning products and bathroom bits. It had a tv,hob ,fridge, toaster and microwave. Under floor heating kept it warm. 5 mins in car to Coniston and about 30mins to Bowness made it a decent spot for exploring the lakes Staff was great. The pub serves some good food and seems a popular place for locals to eat ,as it get busy on an evening. Shop/Deli seems well stocked or is good for a butty in a morning.

Chose the steak & ale pie. Steak it was NOT. Under the pastry crust the dish was full to the brim with very very runny gravy. Only four pieces of meat each ~ no exaggeration, the size of a sugar cube, one being very gristly which was left! The smallest portion of mash I have ever had!!! A very very disappointed regular customer, so will be finding somewhere else to go, sadly!

We stopped at this pub on our way back to where we were staying after a hard days walking. Three men were in need of nourishment! The pub is clean and tidy inside and the staff were really friendly. We ordered three drinks and three main meals. Two of the meals were pie of the day which disappointed, the meat was fine but the gravy was very runny. Accompanying the pie was a scoop of mash potato and a couple of small florets of broccoli. I have to say I was expecting more for just under £20! I was hoping for a hearty meal to replenish all the calories I’d used up walking during the day. I might be out of touch with today’s prices but this just seemed a lot for what one of my younger grandchildren could easily have eaten. I wouldn’t return which I a shame as the pub is nice as are the staff

Recently stayed 3 nights at The Wilsons Arms in Torver. Overall a very disappointing few days. We paid 50% non-refundable deposit 7 months before our stay and they collected the balance 5 days before our arrival so left us no option to haggle if things were poor. On arrival met by a woman who was allegedly the manager and she advised us that we did not get a key to the main building, just one for the room. We had dinner there on the first night which was OK. They had emailed us before arrival and put a sign in the bedroom saying guests must sign their tab each evening or settle the bill daily. I asked for a tab bill to sign and was told I did not need to. I insisted and received a confrontational and frankly rude reply from the manager. Over our 3 days we had to change 4 items of cutlery as they had dried food on them and clearly were not clean. On our last night we returned at 9.28pm to find the pub shut and we had been locked out despite being told it was open until 10.00pm. Luckily another guest heard our cry for help and came down to let us in. Overall one of our worst experiences in a pub/b&b. Emma was the only quality member of staff and the so called manager left the day after our arrival, clearly way out of her depth.

We stopped in a local campsite just across from the Wilson's Arms, we had drinks most evenings they have a great beer garden. Sunday we opted for Sunday lunch. The portions were very good and the food was excellent. Service was brilliant, it's always good to see an open kitchen, honest and up front. The staff were great, especially when a couple who sat and ate all they ordered and then complained about everything. I'd have told them to bugger off as they were obviously pair of chancers and not short of a good dinner, very childish behaviour on their part. So if there is another review that sounds similar, ignore it. It's a great place 👍👍👍

We called in for lunch after exploring the Coniston area. We opted for the soup and sandwich offering as we only wanted a 'light lunch'. The chicken noodle soup is possibly the tastiest soup I've ever had, and the pork sandwich was delicious. My wife couldn't finish her tuna sandwich as she was 'stuffed'. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and happy for us to bring our dog in with us. We will definitely seek this place out the next time we are in the Lakes and look forward to trying out their evening menu.

Wonderful stay in the Primrose Shepards Hut. Super cosy and the wood fired hot tub was fab - just takes a little time to get going but well worth it! The hut has its own private fenced garden which was great for our dog. We had a meal in the pub the first night on 1st Jan, unfortunately the triple cooked chips weren’t on and the service was slightly lacking. However, it was the first day of the year and these things happen. Christmas is a crazy time for hospitality so this is understandable. I had meant to write a review on returning from our overnight stay on 9th November but simply forgot. Well here it is now, better late than never! We were treating our friends to an aniversary celebration and booked two rooms and a table for an evening meal. I had of course looked at the images on the website and read several reviews but still had some reservations about a night in the lakes in November. Those concerns were completely unfounded, the stay was excellent in every respect. No problems whatsoever with rooms, breakfast, evening meal and service. In fact, the rooms were even nicer than shown on the website. An excellent stay and my only regret was that we had only booked a single night!

We had this stay booked on air bnb to stay in one of the glamping pods with a hot tub. We were messaged 1 hour 30 mins before our check in time to say that the snow was too bad for us to come and so they couldn’t accommodate us. I completely understand that the weather is out of their control - however we were only made aware of this 90 minutes before our check in time , and we had already set off onto one 3 hour drive there. I rang the Wilson’s arms and asked if we could be refunded for our trip as they said we are unable to go and the rude women said ‘no, we can’t help the weather’ and was then told to ring back on Monday as she was too busy right now. We were also repeatedly lied to as one member of staff advised due to the conditions of the road this morning being so bad she was having to stay the night, when we asked why we weren’t informed sooner if she knew the roads were unsafe the phone was then passed and we were then advised by another member of staff the conditions had just turned. We were also told we would be contacted on the following Monday to discuss as there was only a single member of staff available, however when we asked further questions regarding the conditions the phone was passed to different members of staff who’s attitudes was worst than the last. We eventually had the phone hung up on us and spent the next hour stranded in a service station trying to contact the company however phone call was ignored, before finally contacting airbnb directly who when attempting to contact the company regarding our issues, then proceeded to ignore airbnb.

It was nearing midday on a Nov-23 Sunday, we had just finished at 10km walk up around the quarry. Entering the pub there was one other customer, I said ‘hi’ to the bar lady she grunted. She was making a coffee for the only other customer , so we wait to be served 3 mins go by , no acknowledgment, no i’ll be with you in a couple , another 3 mins go by still making the coffee and pottering around behind the bar, still not being acknowledged. A tradesman then comes in to look at an issue with the boiler 3-4 mins talking to him. Still no acknowledgment. She returns to the coffee making , another 2 mins , still waiting at the bar. Zero acknowledgement no i’ll be with you shortly , i just looked at my Fiancé laughed and said let’s go. 10 mins waiting at the bar in an empty pub (except) one other customer, not to be acknowledged or spoken to. Frankly comical. We left walked into town to find a delightful pub and to be treated as a paying customer. Maybe she was having a bad day! but you can’t run a business like that.

Great short break, made all the better by some really thoughtful staff who quickly solved a booking challenge. The shepherd’s huts are well-designed and very comfortable, and the food is wholesome and tasty. Terrific location for walking in and around Coniston.

Tried the drive thru...waited and waited was nobody home?, Was it closed? Reversed out and entered the shop and waited at the counter and waited and waited....3 or 4 staff just chatting away oblivious to customers. 17:00 pm on Saturday. Outstanding service.

We only wanted a coffee and a cake as it was only 11.15 AM but had to queue for 20 minutes behind people ordering hot food and spending ages deciding what they wanted at the last minute Nice stuff but it needs organising a lot better Guess as its volunteer run it depends very much on what the staffing is on the day They need a separate area for those just having coffee etc rather than a meal

Good location, pleasant staff but expensive for poor quality coffee and stale cake. Was offered a refund on the cake which I declined.
