Willows Takeaway in Orkney Islands

Only had chips suppers at lunchtime, but everything was fine. Haggis a bit overdone and dry, so a star off for food. A basic Take-away, so no atmosphere expected. Edir: been back a couple of times since, and all has been good. 👍

Waited a hour to get cold and dry food and found weird bits of idk what in the rice. It’s not the first time this has happened. Wouldn’t recommend

Best fish & chips I've ever tasted.

Had my first Chinese Chicken Chow Mein from here on Saturday night. Disappointed with the poor Quality and small amount of chicken. I had to hunt for it. Copious amounts of Noodles. Very bland and tasteless. My husband had fish which was very greasy and the chips should have been cooked longer. ..

First off - this place is cash only!! Secondly - Both myself and my partner are vegan, on holiday nearby, and wanted a Chinese takeaway. The menu doesn't have anything specifically marked as vegan, but we saw that they had mock duck and chicken, so chose to give it a go. The staff were lovely- although we had to ask about several items ingredients (if there was egg in the noodles, etc) they were very diligent in making sure our food was vegan, taking the time to even phone around to ensure everything was alright for us to eat. The food itself was pretty good, big portions, was a good choice all in all! Definitely the locals spot, everyone is very friendly.

It's a takeaway was excellent before covid now it's nothing to speak about just wish the food was as good as service

Disappointing. Our lunchtime patties were microwaved. The Willow Orkney patties- had LOVELY flavour and good ratio of meat to potato, but sadly have to criticise this takeaway harshly because our patties had been microwaved. They defied the law of thermo-physics- they came scolding hot in the centre and cold on the outside, the batter was chewy, cold and tasted of oil. Consequently they were inedible after couple of bites. Anything deep fried should never be reheated like this, it should always be fresh. We came here after seeing some positive reviews. We didn't try the Chinese takeaway options, which looked good. We came to try the chippy on a weekday lunchtime. Would go else where in the town. We also had chips, they were fresh and decent, oil was fresh. Not the best chips but perfectly adequate chippy chips.

We have been customers for several years. The staff is always friendly. Good food. However, prices are always rising a little more. Fairly fast preparation service.

Amazing fish and chips. We came here on our holiday and we were blown away by food and service. Very kind people who take orders quickly and a very short wait time for food. Would extremely recommend as the best chip shop and Chinese in Orkney.

Excellent fish 🐟 n chips. Friendly staff. Great prices and quantity were well proportioned. Take a way only which meant fast service. Had a bit of mix up on Thai food order however it had great flavors and traditional recipes.

I visited the Willows while on holiday and I have to say best chips I have had in a long time. You must try their home made Patties. The staff are great and have a smile always. Highly recommended

I travel up and down the whole of the UK for work. And have to say this is the worst chicken curry I've ever had. Gungie slimy weird pieces of chicken that's if it was chicken I couldn't eat it. Stay well clear this place needs investigating for its meat

Food is excellent whether you are after a Chinese takeaway or fish and chips it's all well cooked and good value my only issue is with the time it takes to get your order even if it you have phoned it in but this could be a result of the quality as most people I know use this takeaway.

Wow, can't believe what I just ate compared to the price I paid. Excellent food and the staff were excellent also, very courteous. I've travelled all over Scotland for a couple of companies so have tried a lot of good place's to get some food on the go. This one is a cut above, wait til you try and bet your reviews are positive as well. Thank you willows 👍

love coming here on my visits to orkney!! never had a bad meal :) i'm a big fan of the egg fried rice & lemon chicken here!!! but everything I've had has been really tasty and well cooked. wait times and queues are a bit long, but that's a sign of a place popular for good reason!!

Fish and chips very good but I thought it was expensive.

Went for Chinese options. Constant flow of customers for both Chinese food & chippy; chippy orders appeared to turn over really quickly. Chinese food wasn't bad at all.

I am not sure where all the good reviews come from, maybe it was just a bad day. Anyway, my fish and chips were ready in one minute, which usually is already not a good sign. Both, fish and chips, tasted of old oil which is the most important thing besides the fish itself. The fish without batter was OK, but that is not what I ordered. I ended up throwing most of it in the bin - 8.50 could have been spent much wiser.

The Willows is my favourite Fish n Chips in Orkney. Actually, it's more than just Fish n Chips as it does Chinese food as well. I was curious to see how they compared to Mainland takeaways. The chips looked and tasted great, but the real test for me was the white pudding, which I had last night. The verdict? Every bit as good as Edinburgh's finest. The staff were polite and friendly and the place was spotless, looks like I'll be a regular.

Great food, busy on a Fri evening, but worth the wait

Food is always excellent. Unfortunately it's a victim of its own success, and waiting times can sometimes be excessive. It would be 5 stars if not for the waiting times.

Probably the best chips in Kirkwall. You can have quite a wait as it is popular locally. They only accept cash or I would have given 5 stars.

Food was excellent. Would definitely order form here again.

Food was nice as always, but placed an order and then had to stand in a queue for over 40 minutes to collect. Meanwhile taxi drivers were legitimately walking past the queue an collecting orders. Didn't make sense because the queue was having things made to order, hence the wait. Without the wait It would be 5 stars. No half star option. Moral of the story, if you don't want a long stand in the cold, get a taxi to collect.

We love Willows! It's great for price, quality, speed, & the staff are always polite and welcoming. It's a tucked away, well known, wee secret almost. Won't be getting our Chinese anywhere else (not when there's the salt'n'chilli munchy box!)

Ordered a takeaway to be delivered. Ordered a happy meal, had a couple of mouthfuls and there was a massive bug in my food. Not pleased and wont be ordering from there again

I really like it, it's open later than a lot of other places which is great for when you're coming home after a late shift, and the food is really good and not super expensive like a lot of places are up here.

There's a tiny waiting area and it's very busy with queues going out the door... an uncomfortable experience. The ladies who serve seem relatively friendly but the man there shouts " next " and doesn't seem friendly. The patties were good but the chips could be better.

Went there yesterday as my cruise ship I work for was docked there. I asked a local guide for a recommendation for a chip shop and she mentioned a few and but this was “where the locals go”. So yes, I took the 5 min walk from the main shopping street to go there. It is well worth it! Tiny place in the back of a flat . For £6.50 I got a HUGE fish and chips! They also sell other fried stuff and Chinese food. Well worth it if you want fish and chips. **Just be patient as everything is cooked to order and served fresh!**

WE LOVE WILLOWS! A local secret in the take away scene, often refered to as "The Chipenese" as they seamlessly fuse a fish and chip shop with a chinese take away. Thw food is delicious, probably not that healthy, but thw best hangover cure on the Island.

EDIT: THE CHINESE FOOD CONTAINS PEANUT OIL AND IT ISNT MARKED ON THE MENU. The plus side, Kirkwall A&E is really great! These are undoubtedly the best chips I have had in a long time. Fresh and crispy and fluffy. The boys enjoyed their fish as well. There is a constant stream of cars pulling up outside, so it seems to be highly regarded far and wide. We hAve the holiday cottage next door, so parking is an issue for us at frying times! After our arrival after a very long journey, fish and chips was exactly what was needed, and it didn't disappoint. One other thing: when we saw we were next to a takeaway my heart sunk a little imagining the constant smell of old cooking fat and vinegar, and a seagull issue. Well I think they must be quite scrupulous because there is nothing like that. I would definitely eat from there again* * as part of a varied and balanced diet.
