William Gladstone in Liverpool

Updated from 4 star to 1 star. Revisited for a 3rd time and ordered the same chicken sub. This place has seriously gone down hill or I just got seriously unlucky on this visit? The chicken sub had about 3 pieces of chicken that were barely noticable, instead, replaced with a boat load of mayo while the chips had been replaced with fries that were all stuck together. Absolutely dissapointing. Review based of 2 visits Food: The food was delightful. For a pub meal, it was definitely beyond my expectations. I had the chicken club baguette with some chips. Cannot fault it at all. If there was to be any critasism, I'd say the chips needed something. Maybe a little seasoning. Staff: On both occassions, the staff have been very friendly and easy to deal with. Great level of customer service. Again, above expectations. Atmosphere: both visits had been a rather busy experience with the TVs on, playing football. You could hold a regular conversation during your meal which is great

CAN’T DO ATTITUDE Just been in. Bar staff said they’d put the match sound on when it started. Ordered cider but they wouldn’t put ice in it. Ordered steak but they had no mustard at all. Then when the match started they refused to turn the sound up, and looked smug.

Top. . Best fish and chips... Good, cold beer...

Food and wine. Ordered small plates, which were great and good value for money. Friendly staff.

Great place to spend an afternoon watching the racing. Book a table in advance with a £10 deposit, which you can then use on your bar bill. Decent drinks, good pub grub too. Friendly place.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the manager and staff who were very attentive yesterday when there was an incident that required washing my jacket..... Food was lovely and cocktails 2 for 1 were great. Very busy in here yesterday and staff hard working....

It's a pub, not much else to say, free house but few beers not on, TVs for live sport, and serves food.

Came to the Gladstone before heading to some other bars on mathew street as it’s super close. It was a great pub with a really lively atmosphere. Some members of our group had some small dishes, which looked really good and they said they enjoyed them. I did have a look at the menu and the food looked decently priced so I’ll be coming back to give some of it a try. Our group watched the footie and had some drinks, the girls had 241 cocktails. It was all well priced and we were served quickly. The staff there were really happy and smiley. The red headed manager was so nice, nothing was too much trouble for her and you could see her checking on other customers and making sure everyone was having a good time. Definitely will be returning and trying some more of the food when we come again.

Lovely little pub outside of Mathew Street!! However google does suggest that is it a Wetherspoons, it is not!

Been coming in here more often and can’t say I’ve ever had a bad experience, staff are always kind and the manager that works there always comes across friendly. Would highly recommend for anyone to pop in for a pint or two !

Visited on Monday evening 545pm so tea time We ordered using the app ......the server advised they ran out of onion rings that was meant to come with the gammon no alternative offered When food arrived really disappointing the actual good looked dry poor quality lack of flavour. We orderd gammon amd hinby ordered a mixed grill and if honest lookeld like been cooked early and left wven warmed up Poor presentation No one came to ask if the food was OK or if we were happy........ No excuse as pub wasn't busy Eaten here previously wouldn't again which is sad Staff not great amabassadors for the brand and pub being city centre expect more Not being harsh but being real . Can't say I'd recommend to anyone not when surrounding area and other restaurants are available Big shake up needed especially as not 1st poor review

Spend £40 on two meals and drinks last night....mixed grill for myself and gammon steak for the wife......was informed just before service that they had run out of onion rings ....then once meal did arrive my was dry as anything and wife's chips was burnt...... won't be going there again

Very disappointed. First time ever came for breakfast a the way from Derby to be sat in someone drilling the whole way through. No warning, no apologies, no signs and had already ordered food and rinks before it began !!

Friendly staff and average food. Great half price food offer at the moment. Heating on but bitterly cold inside

Not sure if it's a Wetherspoons, very similar, so it is OK for everyday no frills dining. Big minus is your trip to the toilets, I was expecting a certificate for completing the course.

If you like watching football this is the place to come as there are plenty of screens. Service is fast and efficient. Not tried the food recently so can't comment on the food but seems reasonably priced. Beer was slightly more expensive than normal.

Drinks are served perfectly cold! The steak is good. We really like this place. The staff have been accommodating and friendly. We've been here four times in 10 days for food, drinks, and to watch a couple of football matches. We're going back one last time tomorrow for our Christmas Eve meal...before we fly halfway across the globe to go home.

Not a weatherspoons, as suggested by Google. Sticky tables and not clean. £12 for a prosecco and pint of beer. Service was good and barlady was friendly.

Lots of people in there as a Saturday night and we had food and it was nice and came quickly

The food was terrible. We had all day breakfast and Vegan burger with very few chips.

Met friends for drinks early in the evening and then went back later for further drinks. Atmosphere great, service good.

Travelling from Australia we stumbled across this pub. A great place to eat, drink and watch some football. Friendly, helpful staff.

Bar staff could a bit more polite

Avoid microwave food. Went for lunch yesterday 2 steak ale pies 1 chicken and leak pie 1 Cumberland sausage Absolutely awful, all microwaved food. Mash was over cooked smash. Frozen, peas, carrot and leaks disgusting. All pies had been warmed in microwave. The only decent thing was Cumberland sausage. I telephoned the business and as of yet I am waiting for an update. Update following my conversation with the Management in November I am still awaiting an update. This is certainly poor customer service and Not best practise when running a business

Nice wee stop in the center of liverpool

Great atmosphere in the bar, enjoyed our couple of hours there. Ordered the 4 item menu, one of which was unavailable, the croquettes were burnt and the rest was poor standard frozen deep-fried offerings, that part of the business needs work

Excellent food breakfast stops at 12 but could easily serve all day. As people kept asking. Happy friendly staff who could do enough for you. Wonderful atmosphere 👏 well done

Came here on the 10th of September after the MTT bus running we ordered a caroline reaper burger and a bacon and cheese burger both meals came with a drink included so we had two pints of moretti the food came quickly and was well presented I should warn you the caroline reaper burger catches you off guard and delivers its kick when you least expect it luckily my cold pint of moretti dampened the fire we then ordered pudding which consisted of sticky toffee sponge with dairy free custard which went down a treat a nice little pub with friendly staff

We just happened to pop in on wednesday 23rd August 2023 for a quick drink and ended up there til it closed!! The service was excellent and the food was very good and served quickly. The highlight were the cocktails which were spot on and the bartenders were very friendly and professional. I would single out the Manager fir special mention as she was outstanding in every way

A very loud and noisy pub if eating in the evening but a good place for a drink. Food and drinks ordered via the app, came quickly and tasted good. Toilets ECT available.

The food is really good and the service excellent. Will always eat here when in Liverpool.

I would like to thank Sosha and Josh for taking such good care of us when my daughter had a seizure after her dinner. Thank you for carrying A'lyse up all those stairs, it really meant a lot to us. Amazing staff and thank you to other customers who came over to offer help. The food was lovely too. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Xxx

Horrible service!! We waited for ages for been served and after 20 min waiting we were advised to order by the app. The table was very dirty and in the opportunity, we asked the waiters to clean it up. After 10 min calling someone to get information about allergens, as in the app there is no option to remove any items, and they cleaned the table up by the manager. The waitress was rude and ignored us. As recommended for staff, we ordered by the app and although we were charged for the order in our bank account, the order didn't go through in the restaurant system. We were advised to repeat the transaction for the waiter and it didn't work again. He asked us to repeat the transaction at the tills and guaranteed that the money taken would go back to the account. I asked his name and he didn't want to say and called his manager who told us that the money would go back to the account in 2 working days. After 1 hour of trying to order food, we gave up and went home hungry and with less than £120. I absolutely do not recommend this place. Very frustrated experienced and disappointed. Sad to be treated like that.

Well what can I say about this eating house/ pub . As I of 8 ladies on our day out to Liverpool. We all decided that from the outside this looked a nice place for us all to have our lunch. There was only about 12 people in apart from our party . We went up in pairs for the order . Unfortunately for 2 of us the other 6 had been served and eaten before our food arrived. After 30 mins we asked where our food was . To be told it’s ready shortly. After 40 mins we went back to the bar to be told the order had not been put through to kitchen. Did we want to wait or have our money back . Well no we don’t want to wait .after a conversation we were given our money back as well as the drinks we had . No apology from the barman / manager at all . This really spoilt our day as we were hoping to go shopping while we were here. Instead we had to find somewhere quick to eat before we got on the coach home .

Rude barmaid. I politely said there was hair in my cocktail and she said “right well I guess I’ll get you another one” really rudely and just walked away from me. So I went to sit back down and after 15 minutes waiting I went back up to the bar and was ignored, I spoke up and said I was waiting for a replacement drink to a different lady in the till, she shouts over to the original bar maid that my drink needs changing. She huffs and puffs shouts what and slams down a glass she was carrying. I asked the lady on the til was she always this rude to her own staff and customers?? I got a mouthful back about how they’re busy and she forgot. I just missed the part where she apologized about the hair in my drink. Won’t be coming again.

I went in today and Frances and Lauren in particular were absolute gems. Service with a smile doesn’t cut it, really waited after me even though it was crazy busy and clearly they were understaffed will be coming back purely because of these girls

Tables dirty. Empty glasses/food plates on all unoccupied tables. Lots of staff behind the bar but nobody cleaning
