Wild Wood in Forest Heath

We arrived with no booking but was greeted by very welcoming staff. I really was not expecting anything special due it being a chain. I was proved wrong. We had the steak which was cooked to perfection. Cut like butter and melted in your mouth. We also had the peri peri chicken pasta and this too was just perfect. When presented with the bill were were told that it included an optional service charge but " please feel free to remove". How refreshing that was. Perhaps also a good practise because we felt that everything was so good we were happy to leave it.

We visited here without making a booking and was immediately greeted by friendly staff who were pleased to find us a table. When ordering the food, the lady who served us made great recommendations, and when our food came, another member of the team asked if our meal was okay and could they improve anything (we had the new Christmas menu). After a great meal, we asked for the bill and the lady let us know service charge had been added but can be taken off with no issues, the service was so great, we were pleased to pay it.

When the staff nearly out number the guests in the Restaurant you would expect excellent service. The staff were more interested in standing around chatting amongst themselves at the back of the Restaurant as far away from rhe customers as possible, also includes the female manager on duty who left with two of the staff. When the cook is the one telling the service staff that you want there attention that really shows there lack of interest in there customers. One of the waitresses, to be fair was trying her best she was polite friendly tried her best. While her junior male manager just stood around chatting. Like the other manager. The food was okay but we only had starters and main and gave up on dessert. As got fed up waiting.

Great tasting food and excellent service we had a beef burger and mushroom burger which was cooked to perfection on a grill and tasted fantastic great service and the staff were interactive and helpful, customer care was second to none a great experience and would highly recommend this restaurant

Main course was very small portion we both had Risotto tasted ok but wasn’t fantastic deserts was the best part very very nice we had the Tiramisu and my friend had lemon tart both delicious and nice size. Service was great very professional and polite food was served in a good time and was presented well.

We are wildwood regulars (which probably says it all)! We eat here twice a week without fail, even on the racing days where it’s super busy we always have great service and great food, the chef is accommodating and if you need anything extra it’s hassle free. I think some of the reviews on here are unfair, it’s a big restaurant and when you sit and look around the room, everyone is trying to do their job the best they can, it’s not a case of people not trying, race days are busy and they are only human! We come back here week in week out, we love the food, the restaurant, and the staff. Everything is clean and the food is the best, we haven’t had a bad meal and nothing is too much to ask for with these guys. People seem to expect a lot, and actually this is a really well priced restaurant with good food, the cocktails are made fresh there and then and the service is brilliant. Not sure what else you can ask for. I recommend, this place is fabulous.

We were celebrating mum-in-law’s move back to Newmarket, so the experience needed to be special. The team at Wildwood didn’t disappoint. The meal was excellent and the service was outstanding. Thanks especially to Laura who made us feel welcome, made us feel like family. We are a fussy bunch but couldn’t fault it. Thank you so much!

I enjoyed the food but we had to ask for the party menu which is for a set meal it wasn't offeted The drinks were expensive I don't agree with 10 percent service charge being added, we were told this could be taken off but find this most uncomfortable I would much rather give a tip of my own chosi g on the service provided

We have been to Wildwood restaurant in Newmarket twice in the last 4 months. It is central near the roundabout close to waitrose. Plenty of parking nearby. Restaurant is very well lit, has comfortable seating. A big statue of a horse in the corner reminds us that we are in Newmarket. The waiters were friendly and helpful. Prompt service. Menu has improved. We had two starters and two mains. Focaccia bread with the pepper tapanade was tasty. Pesto pomodoro thin pizza bread is worth trying. Our penne was not overcooked. Good choice of dishes for vegetarians. Wines are reasonable. One 0% alcoholic beer on the menu. We enjoyed the lunch. Will try dinner next time. Definitely recommend.

Lovely Steak Some fries were a little overdone. Tirimasu was Delicious Much nicer than other Tirimasu I have had. Had a Berry Cider which was Nice I just wish they would ask if you wanted Ice. Flat White Coffee was nice.

My partner and I had been let down on our reservations at another restaurant, so we thought we'd try Wildwood. It was 7.30pm on a Friday night so we knew it would be a bit of a gamble that they would have a table free. It seemed like they might not have the space, but the manager and her team went about making a quick turn around on a table that had JUST been cleared and seated us within only a minute or two. We both ordered the steak (not really one for photographing my food but I really wish I had!), both came out very promptly and we absolutely delicious! The steak was tender and juicy, the sauce was flavourful and light, and the fries were lovely and crispy without being over seasoned or oily. When finished our steaks, we were offered the dessert menu - we did look through it but didn't order anything, neither of us has much of sweet tooth. One of the girls had come to check on us and ask how everything was partway through the meal, Karolina came over to check on us again as we asked for the bill. My one and only 'nitpick' (although by no means a negative statement, just a constructive hope) - a slightly better whiskey/whisky selection would have been great! Jack Daniels and Jamesons are decent (I went for Jamesons), but would have loved a nice glass of Glenmorangie/Glenfiddich/Talisker to be able to have with my steak. All of the staff members had been so friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere of the venue was lovely, and the food was absolutely delicious! We left there already talking about when we'd be wanting to come back again to try other things on the menu! Thank you again to Karolina and the team, you all made our night and we look forward to coming by again!

A surprisingly stylish restaurant for a chain restaurant! Food was good value. Staff good too. Definitely worth a visit if you want something straightforward in a nice setting.

We eat here as a family usually once a week. The lunch menu is fantastic value for what you get. The staff are always so friendly, professional and attentive. Couldn’t fault it in anyway. Highly recommend.

Not too busy , good receptive staff had the Jubilee menu -minestrone soup then Margarita pizza and then chocolate brownie with ice cream. Wasn’t expecting much but surprised by the fantastic taste of all the food served. Worth a visit.

My family and I absolutely loved our experience at wildwood. The food was lovely and the service was incredible. The staff were very friendly and made any alterations we wanted to our orders (because of our allergies etc). Could not recommend Wildwood anymore!

Happened to visit this restaurant on Thursday on a trip from Dublin. Couldn’t recommend restaurant enough . Food was beautiful. Restaurant stunning and the very welcoming Carolina made us so welcome . If your in Newmarket this place is well worth a visit .

Researched this restaurant long before we came to Newmarket and wow, we're so glad we did. The first visit was fantastic. We were looked after by a wonderful team and the food was delicious. The portions are large so make sure if you want dessert to bring your appetite! Despite the wait staff being young, they seemed so supported by their manager who kept them informed and encouraged. The manager, who we believe was called Helga (We're not 100% sure, however) was fantastic and it was lovely to see a manager so involved with their staff and diners.This place really came up trumps on our second night when a reservation elsewhere fell through and we were provided with a table immediately upon asking. All in all, a brilliant meal that was matched with a perfect atmosphere and lovely staff.

This was booked last minute and OMG what a meal Fantastic service great waitress made us feel very welcome the food was absolutely outstanding Three courses two bottles of wine £115 certainly worth a visit and would return and 100%. Recommend could not fault it

The previous manager and chef have returned and now once again this place is fantastic. Excellent meal, friendly atmosphere and brilliant service , would highly recommended. Covid compliance was also first class .

First meal out of lockdown 3, not generally a fan of wildwood but have to say this is the second meal in a row which has been first class. Had seafood risotto and it was sublime... Washed down with a bottle Malbec, lovely. Thoroughly recommend.

Visited as a four and had a lovely experience. Everyone enjoyed three courses and every single course was very tasty and fantastic value. The service was very efficient and welcoming and it was plain to see that the whole team had a very good rapport with each other. Great night had by all and can’t wait to return!

Came to wildwood for the 50% off and the food was fantastic! I had garlic prawns which were amazing and the staff were so friendly, I will definitely be back.

My friend hadn’t wanted to complain so only noticed half his meal left at end. Waitress said we could have asked for replacement but this is unacceptable when you then end up eating your meal when everyone else has finished theirs. Surely the chef should know when a poor cut if meat is c Sc lapped on a plate. Not sure even my labrador would have made her way through it. No offer to remove meal from bill or evens complimentary desert for my friend.

Our 10 year old godson asked to visit Wildwood for his birthday treat. We were well received and shown to our table. The attention and service was ok not too over bearing although the restaurant was not very busy. The food was well cooked and piping hot

Reservation was easy and staff were great and friendly. Food was great as well. We have been there many times before and will continue to do so.

I ordered the vegan veg bake. It was 70% potatoes and then two roasted peppers and a small bit of aubergine. None of the promised squash and a lot of chilli ( or mentioned on the menu). Staff kindly got me a replacement, mushroom soup. Ironically full of pieces of potatoes (they clearly like potatoes here) which was weird and sadly also inedible. Kids food was good and husbands burger was fine though.

I took my daughter and some of her work friends for a 241 Sunday supper. Perfect end to a busy weekend. The menu caters for all sorts of taste and appetite. Always enjoy the atmosphere and convenient location in the centre of Newmarket

The food was lovely, We had booked a table for my sons birthday. We were disappointed at the amount of time we had to wait for firstly drinks and then the meal. 2.5 hours. We ordered desserts and waited, the waiter came over and said they had forgotten to put the order through. Such a shame as the restaurant is lovely and the food is very tasty, The time waiting would put us off visiting again.

We were a party of 8 and had a lovely meal and the service was excellent. Could not fault the evening and would recommend anyone to visit.

I booked this meal for my partner for his birthday, my parents arrived before us and asked if we could be seated somewhere more private. Straight away the waiter took them upstairs and offered them tinsel and little crackers to decorate for his birthday. We got there shortly after and the service was amazing! We couldn’t fault any member of staff. They catered to all of our needs and made my partners birthday extra special! Thank you so much!! Definitely recommend!!

We enjoyed our trip into newmarket to meet up with the family and have a nice meal together. Some of the food was a little lukewarm and an error with the dessert order prevents me giving 5 stars. The willingness to amend a menu item to accommodate a vegetarian was greatly appreciated.

I took my folks for a Tuesday evening meal and the food was very nice. My dad was shocked at how cheap it was, in light of the quality of the food. Simple classics, executed well. Highly recommended.

The staff were not attentive. We asked twice for most things. I had to get a child menu myself. Only 4 eating, but still managed to miss off a meal. Only 3 tables in the restaurant! Manager there, but spent the entire time in his computer at a table.

Chilly restaurant. Food was OK, the Calzone appear to have shrunk and had little filling. One of the meals came out wrong, but luckily the recipient was happy to have what had been delivered. The latte that was served was tepid. Service was also very slow from mains to desserts. The place wasn't even busy, but limited staff meant long waits. I won't rush back if I'm being honest. Mangiere in the town is a much better option.

I visited Wildwood Newmarket with my family during the Christmas period. Generally the food was great and we had a 50% off voucher which we redeemed so the meal was good value for money.

Despite pre booking and advising I was allergic to cranberries my food was still covered in cranberry sauce. This was sorted out quickly and the rest of the visit was ok. Food was nice.

Having read about the poor waitress Zoe, i would never eat here again. Management should be ashamed of themselves for putting so much on one person, especially at this time of year. They really don't deserve customers for treating the staff so badly, plus the food is nothing special, there are much better places to eat .

A group of 15 of us visited the restaurant on Saturday for a Christmas work party. This was the worst meal I have ever eaten. It took us a total of 3 hours to receive all 3 courses, the food was all overcooked, cold or inedible.

Last Saturday we had our Xmas meal there;after 45 min sitting and waiting we had drinks order taken and another 30 min waiting for beverages to arrive. We had to ask twice for complimentary prosecco. Starters arrived after 9 pm(table booked for 7:30 and meals pre-ordered!).food was awful,mostly overcooked and cold,near midnight we got to our desserts ,all place was empty and yet we only received 3 puddings,another three 15 min later. The worse is we haven't had manager coming to us once to say a word of apology,he seems hiding downstairs, instead poor waitress Zoe was brave enough to face angry and hungry crowd,she was lovely and done great job running around doing what supposed to be manager's job. I'm disappointed in his skills, knowing they are short of staff he simply should stuck in and help instead he just stood and watch poor girls struggling...not on.Our evening was ruined,will defo not be back again ever.

The poor waitress was left upstairs on her own to look after 70 people, there was loads of staff downstairs that wouldn’t help her (they were swanning around unstressed!) our waitress was in tears as she was so stressed, all the other customers were awful to her, management didn’t seem to give a damn. Great staff care having your colleagues serving customers while wiping away tears because she’s so stressed! Well done for looking after your team! I was so upset for her that I even Wanted to help her out by serving customers. I don’t think I’d come back, based solely on this experience. Zoe was amazing, you don’t deserve a colleague like her!

Seated upon arrival and no hanging around waiting for your food, all staff polite and very helpful and we were the last to leave (not rushed out the door)

Newmarket Wildwoods is probably the best place to eat out for a reasonable price in the town, Nice surroundings sometimes service can be a bit too quick if you want to spend time over your meal

From arrival to departure, this was a very good experience. The food and atmosphere were very good and the staff completely attentive, but not so much so that they interfered. A really good lunch which we will repeat soon. Zoe and manager Guiseppe were both helpful and really pleasant to meet.

Better go to McDonald's. Tiny burger, beautifully served... Taste was alright though. It used to be much better.

Popped in for an early evening meal when we had a friend staying. We hadn't visisted Wildwood for a while and the menu is nowhere near as vast as it used to be. I did miss some of the chicken dishes that used to be available. That said, there was still plenty to choose from and we all enjoyed our meals. It's s lovely building and the staff were very efficient.

The atmosphere was lovely with a clean environment. The friendly staff were friendly and the burgers were good with a nice sized portion. The tap water was a miss & not drinkable as it tasted of mouthwash

An excellent evening for my sons 40th Birthday, staff went the extra mile to bring in cake and sing happy birthday.

We came in at lunchtime last Saturday on a race day for my sons 8th school friends party. The service and food was great and all the children went away very happy. The staff were adaptable to any requests and let us decorate the table and two near by. The Manager on duty Giuseppe was very helpful and a credit to the Newmarket branch.

food is amazing; it took a bit of time to grab attention to order but food came quickly and we thoruoughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended for families and couples.

Another lovely meal at Wildwoods. Nice and relaxed, no rushing and our waitress Diamond was great. Food was also nice, however the chicken strips were really just a chicken steak cut into slices so would not order that again!

Ordered a classic burger. Found myself picking a very long hair out of my mouth. Sentbit back. They gave me another but no goodwill gesture offered. Found myself pulling a very long hair out of the 2nd burger! I complained. A goodwell gesture was made but only after I pointed out they'd done nothing earlier. They said the burgers weren't made on the premises. Disgusting.

All good on this visit - as always. The waitress was very pleasant and the food was good.

My daughter and her husband had a great Sunday lunch and said they would return again. Would like to return with family. A lovely hotel just for a relaxing drink or a meal staff very friendly.

Literally finished starters and within 1 minute our main was on the table, no chance for starters to even digest a little. Steak was rubbish, especially for the price. Paid an extra £1.30 for what I would thought would be a portion of mushrooms, but it was only 1 and that was cold. Chips were really oily. Overall experience was terrible and food was really bad. Will never eat there again.

What a terrific place. Excellent food, giant helpings, lovely staff and interesting, fun decor. They even managed to contact us afterwards to say our daughter had left her phone! Highly recommended.

Rarely do I comment on service which is overattentive but tonight it was get in get out. Table in window away from the main restaurant as a single diner - think they dont cater for people eating alone much almost worse than being put by the toilets. Pleasant service but food was served on cold plates! Could do better!

After walking round the town the rest of the pubs looked like chain type venues. Spoke to a local who recommend Wildwood. Did not expect the garlic bread to come in the form of a pizza they seem very fond of using the open-flame grill. Overall nothing special just ok.

We eat here quite frequently and usually really enjoy the evening. The food is usually very good quality and the service excellent, but last night several things went wrong. We ordered two of the Philly steaks, a special burger off the additional specials menu, a smoked Haddock Risotto and a childs meal (5 in total). The first problem was that the usually excellent Philly steak meal was off the menu (found out only after the waitress took the order to the kitchens). One of the two had requested the chips be switched for sweet potato chips, however, as we discovered after looking at the bill in the car later, we had been charged for the replacement Risotto (switched from the Philly as it wasn't available) but also for a portion of sweet potato chips (which obviously were not delivered as they were part of the Philly meal). So we had been over-charged!. The special meal came with a free bottle of Sol. This was never bought to the table and after the third time of asking we were bought a salt mill!. The drink eventually emerged as we were close to leaving! The children's desert was chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce, but was delivered with a scoop of mint ice-cream on the top (no mention of it on the menu). This ruined the desert as my grand-daughter hates the mint taste! She was in tears... so to sum up, the meal we were looking forward to wasn't available, we didn't get everything ordered, our evening ended with our grand-daughter in tears and we were overcharged (and found out too late to correct it!). We love the food and the service and will still go back, but this was a disaster from start to end (perhaps just one of those unlucky nights!)

I’ve been here many times as it’s quick easy and non expensive but the thing that had let it down was the slow and not so good service. This time was much improved all the staff where very good and food and drinks come out very fast. I think it’s under new management and you can definitely tell.

Pleasant restaurant and staff who were willing to let us eat considering the restaurant was due to close in half an hour.

Initial service was great! Atmosphere was very cozy and stylish. My boyfriend and I ordered the Polpette (oven baked meatballs in a fancy tomato sauce) for our appetizer followed by the mushroom risotto and baby back ribs with a side of grilled asparagus. First off, the tomato sauce served with the meatballs was absolutely delicious. I would love t o know the recipe but the meatballs were very overcooked and dry on the inside. My boyfriend's risotto was very delicious and full of flavor and so were my ribs. My grilled asparagus, unfortunately, was very soggy and had no flavor at all. I literally took one bite and that was it. Overall I'd give a rating of 3/4 due to the fact that we had to wait about 20 -25 minutes for our waitress to come back just to get our check then we had to wait another 10 minutes for the manager to come since we were paying our bill of £55 in cash. As stated before the mains were delicious but having to wait so long for our waitress and additional time for our change after paying wasn't pleasant. Apparently everyone is supposed to pay electrically.

Chanced on a Monday evening when the chosen country pub was closed. Quick look at the menu gave an initial disappointment as it looked to be a pizza pasta sort of place. However, the wonderful professional waiter suggested a couple of dishes, one, the sea bass, another the sirloin steak and we were not disappointed. Two of our party of four had pasta. Very good too. A bottle of the house red was good. Plenty of tap water. The loos were being renovated so we used the disabled one on the ground floor. Perfectly acceptable as it was clean and available. Great service. Great food. Great discovery!

Came here after Bedford lodge spa visit and glad we did. They fitted us in late and we had some delicious food and drinks. Highly recommend

Last month we all enjoyed a really great lunch but this month our dinner was not so great. Service was very slow even though it wasn’t that busy and one of our party was served the wrong dish which none of us sadly picked up on. At least we were not charged but two of our party left to eat elsewhere.

A pleasant atmosphere and friendly waiter. We ordered a starter, which when it arrived was a sizzling bowl of melted cheese which had split and had burnt nuts floating in the oil from the cheese. It wasn't very pleasant. My wife's risotto was fine, but I ordered the smaller size mushroom and truffle oil pizza. When it arrived, it was the large one. By large, I mean it was virtually the width of the table. In fairness, I was told that the chef got it wrong and I would only be charged for the smaller size. The pizza, although rather over facing, was nice though. Our waiter had sold us on the halloumi fries, which we ordered. They didn't come because the chef forgot to do them. We had noticed the chef on a couple of occasions placing food out and impatiently banging the service bell, which did become a little annoying. It was all a bit disappointing, as it wasn't particularly busy and the mistakes should not have been made. The waiter, as previously stated, was polite and friendly, but the whole experience was a little disappointing.
