Whittakers Fish and Chips Marple in Stockport

This place is a gem. First visit here but would definitely come again. The fish and chips are so fresh and tasty. and very good sized portions.

We have tried a number of chip shops in the area but have found Whittakers to be the Best.The fish & chips are always fresh &very tasty & a good price.We would definitely recommend them.

This is one of the best fish and chip shop I've ever been to. The fish is quality, not too much batter, tasty and good value. The service is good too.

Nice counter staff. Friendly and hard working. The fish was nice but the chips were white, limp and very greasy. I was about to throw them away when I got home but my husband had a brainwave and put them in the air fryer, they came out crispy and non greasy. The peas were too green and a mush rather than looking like mushy peas. I’m not certain but I don’t think the polystyrene is particularly non eco friendly but it makes my skin crawl and the grease was swimming in the bottom of the carton. They use palm oil which I do know is a major cause of deforestation. It’s a high street chippy I understand and apart from the chips (and peas) it was nice and I would love to see possible changes, and will go again.

Just had some fish and chips around 6 pm Truly some of the worst we have had. Oil obviously not hot enough as the fish soggy and full of oil. Batter very poor and chips very similar. Frier could do with some training.

Excellent service and delicious food. I always have fish and chips or curry chips and peas. It sports a decent selection of soft drinks too and you can sit in. What’s not to like? The only criticism I have is that the staff like to close on time but I like to camp out with an array of tasty flavours. Oh well, till next time 🐠

I’ve eaten here twice for lunch as it’s a few steps from the office. The chicken kebab salad was super tasty and then this week I had a small portion of chips and gravy. They were delicious! I’m quite fussy on chips and these were perfect. They were super fresh and made with quality potatoes. I didn’t have that sick feeling you can sometimes get with chip shop chips. Will definitely be trying out more food from this place.

Ordered medium chips no vinegar. They got covered in vinegar. So I asked for some chips with no vinegar. Rather than replace them they just put them back in the fryer. Not even an apology. And nearly two pound for the smallest portion you can imagine. Politely I took them, binned them, went someone else for a proper portion. Don’t go here.

Love the fish and chips here, always fresh and gorgeous, but they never answer the phone and there’s no delivery service. Would always order from this chippy but they don’t deliver so thumbs down!

We ask for light batter fish us delicious always cooked fresh. Large portions and lot of choice if you are not so keen on fish .

No complaints here had a lovely portion of chips to share with my love very friendly very clean highly recommended

As far as chips go - You might as well go and farm a potato and start eating it. The fish was also poor, very small for the expense. Place also needs some proper ventilation as I felt and smelt like a chip walking out.

Not great. Chips not cooked enough and soft. Puddings not cooked enough. Taste funny.Not hollands. Very clean. Shame I didn't enjoy.

The best chip shop in marple. Portions are just right and the fish are cooked to perfection. It’s become our first choice since the new management took over

Visited this chip shop last week and sat in for a portion of fish and chips. The chips were reasonable but not crispy and they were quite greasy and this was the same for the fish. The fish was large but thin. All in all i think its OK but I cant say I would yearn for them like I do for great fish and chips.

Went there for the first time for lunch and I had the fish and chips. I asked for the haddock but they didn’t have any so had to have the cod. The place is clean with a seating area for eating in or have the traditional take away. As you can see by the pictures it was ok I had as an extra the traditional English curry which wasn’t the best but you can a another curry sauce if you want. They also do an OAP special see picture. You can’t miss the location it’s on the left as you approach Marple coming from Dan bank across from the petrol station. Would I go again yes but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

While I cannot fault the quality of the food it's very disorganized if you are getting a take away you can walk in and nobody seems to know who is next to be served

Called in for lunch today, three perfect fish, huge portion of chips and the best mushy peas I have had in years. The fish are cooked to order and the batter is light and crisp. Great chips too, I think they are only cooked in small batches so they are not sat around for ages. The place is spotlessly clean and the owner is really friendly and helpful.Overall a proper chippy serving proper fish and chips - well worth a visit.

I often go to Whittakers and look forward to it every time. The fish is fresh and the batter is not greasy and really tasty. Great portion sizes too. Also very clean and pleasant atmosphere. I’d recommend it to anyone!

I go to Whittakers every week if possible and always look forward to superbly cooked fish and chips sometimes I add a portion of proper TRADITIONAL peas.

Asta la vista, best looking fish and chips in years, not been before despite living in marple for 19 yrs. Now planning on making it our regular, do know it's changed hands, WELL DONE

We had fish and chips, good sized portions the fish batter was nice and crispy and not greasy. The food is nicely packaged and placed in a paper carrier bag so all can be recycled.

This place was a saving grace for us recently with family staying and no desire to cook after a long day out. Whittaker’s is open on Monday which our local chip shop isn’t and is open later (till 9pm). I arrived at 8pm with a fairly large order which was accommodated without any problem. All of the fish and chips were cooked fresh which I was impressed by. The food was really nice and our family commented on the quality and quantity of the meals. It was clean and the staff members were friendly. I will definitely be returning.
