White Swan Inn in Kirklees

Sunday 1st September 2024 Today, I visited this beautiful old-fashioned rural pub near Kirkburton. This old tqlashioned coaching house today was well staffed and had a good local following. There was an ample range of real ales on, and we had a fantastic pint of Abbeydale moonshine, which was,,spot on,, I would gladly come here again if out this way

Really good pub lots going on nice atmosphere lots of corners to sit in and have a nice drink. Just a shame they called last orders so early

Visited a friend yesterday with my sister and his Mum. We were treated to a lovely Sunday lunch. Really good food and the chef should win a prize for roast potatoes! Great freshly cooked food and a lovely pub with good service. Thank you to all the staff for making such an effort for my sister, who is a coeliac. Much appreciated 👏

Great local pub. Just held my leaving do there. The food was excellent, nicely presented and good value. Service can't be faulted.

Very 1st time in this establishment, absolutely amazingly gorgeous food, where u can enjoy each tasty morsel from start to finish and the pork belly and black pudding for starters was so divine. We will definitely be back here again in the quaint decor for the amazingly cooked roast beef and chicken dinners, even the staff couldn't do enough. Perfect hospitality.

5 of us were dining early evening.. one vegetarian dinner 2 chicken dinners a gammon dinner and a beef dinner.. Every plate ..besides being really full.. was empty ... Even our Norwegian guest had two extra Yorkshire Puds.. Spot on

Had Sunday dinner today...5 different meals & each one was excellent. Norwegian brother in law was blown away with the roast beef & yorkshire pudding. Highly recommended 👌

Lovely and friendly, nice choice of beers and ciders. The outdoor seating area is nice and plenty of space.

Great burgers! Especially enjoyed the blue cheese burger. Also cracking specials on the weekends. Comfortable, inviting environment and lovely accommodating staff.

Visited today for tea expecting standards to be similar to previous visits but that was not the case under the new management. We arrived slightly early and our table wasn’t ready. However the guy behind the bar apologised for this which we were happy with. Once seated we were given one menu to share but found the choice very limited and that there were no starters!! We ordered our meals - one of which was a steak. We had quite a long wait but when the meals eventually arrived there was no steak knife or the offer of extra drinks. The food itself was mediocre at best - roast potatoes were soggy, mash was dry and gravy likely made from granules. The lady who took our plates didn’t offer us the dessert menu so we paid and left. The staff really need to up their game to ensure customers feel welcomed and that custom is valued if the new management are to succeed.

Such a lovely village pub. Me and my family was passing by and called in for some food this afternoon, the staff was really friendly, especially the girl with the black hair which served us ☺️ food was very very tasty and really good value for the money ! Me and my husband both had steaks which were cooked to perfection ! I will defiantly be back !

Coming for years, with good quality ales and food. Recently been taken over and gone down hill rapidly. Flat beer, but worse of all the food took nearly an hour to arrive, and when it did, it was disgusting. Black chips, burnt chicken, and they dared to serve it. We will not be going ever again. So bad...

A proper English pub, lovely bar staff, excellent beer, and friendly locals. On top of that the food is excellent, cooked to order and great quality. Long may proper pubs survive.

Old world type of pub with a brilliant Sunday lunch

Lots of veggie choices, good customer service too!

It is rare to come across a place run as well as this. The key here is quality and value - no rip-off prices, shoddy standards or poor quality. A good range of very well kept beers, a menu that is big enough without over-stretching the kitchen (how many places try to be fancy but fail to deliver?), topped off with exceptional service from all the staff. The White Swan is a gem.

Gorgeous food. I had the mixed grill and it was cooked just how I liked it. The venues location is tucked away in a beautiful rural area of Huddersfield.

Went in on a Wednesday afternoon. Good few people in. Good selection of real ales. Had a pint of Timothy Taylor's boltmaker. Don't see it too many places but it was an excellent pint.

Had a wonderful evening, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Will return on our next visit.

We only called in for a drink, but it seemed a very nice place.

Food was lovely but had to wait over an hour for it to arrive even though no other people eating. Only giving 1 star as the occasion was ruined by the miserable barmaid/owner behind the bar making a point of coming over and moaning that I had added a squirt of juice to my water..how very dare me, it’s such a terrible thing when you have a dodgy stomach and have to be careful what you drink, I just wanted to add a bit of flavour to my water. I didn’t think I was doing anything wrong but apparently “you just do not go to places and take your own drinks”, can understand this if we were adding spirits etc. but it was a squirt of juice for goodness sake. Ended up spending near enough £70.00 on food and DRINK and would have stayed and had more alcoholic drinks if I hadn’t been told off like a naughty child. As it obviously upset them I left my squirty juice as a tip to replace the soft drink I had obviously not bought from them. Judging by a previous review saying soft drinks cost £1.50 I feel justified. Won’t be visiting again and will stick to the Smith’s Arms in future who are more accommodating and never complain when I add my own juice as they are happy enough for my husband and friends to spend their money on plenty of alcohol…it’s called customer service by the way…KAREN!

Having spent £70 on food & drink, plus being a regular on a Tuesday for the quiz, I was astounded when the landlady 'karen" approached the table to complain about one of us dare add a touch of juice to their water..let me repeat that, a touch of juice TO THEIR WATER!!!! Not only has this petty, pathetic attempt to stamp their authority been totally embarrassing on their part, they have now lost our custom and that of the many locals we know... Note to 'karen' reign it in, get a grip...your really not that important...

Outdoor seating area in front of the pub next to main road. Not ideal but only place possible. Good to have the area to sit in. Good food and a nice pint.

Nice friendly little pub. Good meal - hearty, home cooked and piping hot. Drinks all good too... including post-meal coffee which was also piping hot...

I asked for Fish and Chips and they brought me Whale and Chips..mmmmmnnnnnn... absolutely delicious..lovely and friendly staff..recommend to all..

We booked a table for 6.00pm Thursday early evening, steak night, the service was excellent and I had a rump steak ( medium rare ) with all the trimmings, french fries and a peppercorn sauce, my wife had a suet steak and kidney pudding with mongetout, mash, gravy, we shared a chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, 3 lovely pints of Guinness, and two 1/2 lager. Yes, I agree the cheif needs to be tied to the oven, don't let him go. Just to say the proprietor and his wife are really trying, they have made the outside with decking and tables very pleasant for either having just a drink or a meal out in nice weather. Keep up the good standards and we can't wait to be back and to see the extended menu when things get more back in full swing, due to covid 19 restrictions. All the best, Steve & Linda xx

After a hot bike ride it was great to stop here for a drink. Excellent ale brought to our outside table by the landlord, safely distanced. It was very tempting but probably better we didn't stay for a second. They have invested heavily in new decking and tables, it is very smart and clean. Would recommend

I left this review weeks ago, with no supporting comment and today, myself and my partner were verbally attacked by the chef via messenger, using strong language and being completely disrespectful towards us for leaving a negative review. This establishment is an absolute joke from the management, right down to the employees. Who clearly have zero sense of professionalism or self-pride! I am well within my rights to leave whatever type of review I see fit but obviously the 'chef' disagrees. Totally unprofessional and frankly shocking behaviour!

Lovely traditional pub with fantastic real ales. The Sunday Lunch was superb, and probably the best we have had for a while. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit.

Friendly land lord and a good choise of beers and ales

This is s great traditional local pub with friendly staff and good beer. Lots of regular customer surround the bar area but always somewhere to sit. Food is served Thursday to Sunday and we've eaten here several times. Food has always been very good and portions are large and reasonably priced. I can't find fault really and is as good as anywhere local . I would advise anyone to give it a try.

Most staff very polite but some need a bit of work and chef it’s too focused on other things like making food look good on a plate and quality of food has suffered and can’t cook a steak
