White Lion | Pub | Restaurant | Hotel in Calderdale

Called in with friends after a few beers in Hebden, another of our friends had said the food was good. Two of us had the White Lion burger. Have to say, this is the best burger I've ever had. Ok I know it's only a burger, but it could not have been any tastier, cooked to perfection and so succulent. No hesitation, its 10/10 from me.

We had mothers day meal here, it was delicious! Very well value and priced considering it's Hebden Bridge - Prices are notoriously expensive in the village. The food was well portioned and also tasted delicious! This was our first time visiting this establishment and we'd definitely return. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly.

Today, I came to this really good unspoilt pub, which is at least 350 years old . This pub has a lot going for it 5 good real ales on a lovely atmosphere and staff great clientele and I can only have crib on the place because the pub is a well established restaurant it has 1 problem people coming here just to sample the pubs lovely real ales and to eat can't get a table to sit and drink at

Young helpful knowledgeable barman, not typical these days, lovely building and interior, in the ctr of hebden bridge. Only quibble being the beer garden was disappointing , not a great location, no view of the river behind a tall wall, I the back , a bot of a grotty corner....

Popped in on way for a walk. Lovely meal and service!. Will call again!

Don't like dogs in a dining area. Very unhygienic! Should be tied up to a lamppost, outside.

On arrival we was ignored by the bar staff lad. Eventually acknowledged and sat at our table. I ordered fish and chips and got very dry thin chewy fish and wedges and they curry sauce was clearly not homemade. Sorry guys very disappointed 😞

Popped in here for food, service was good food was poor, flaccid soggy fish, rock hard chips, £28 for an overdone fillet steak the size of a large egg. Won't be back.

Beautiful deluxe room bur poor water pressure on shower.

My wife and I stayed here for one night on our way to another location. We wished we had stayed longer. The location is excellent for access to the town. The room was amazing with a very comfy bed. The evening meal and breakfast were to a high standard. The staff were friendly, polite and attentive. Many thanks.

Lovely pub and great service, the blond girl serving us was very good. They managed to accommodate our wishes to have our booking moved forward. The Sunday roast was okay but not great - the roast potatoes were weird and the gravy was flavourless and watery. The veg selection was poor too apart from the cauliflower cheese which was nice.

Our second visit in a couple of months to have lunch at the White Lion. Lovely bar menu, superlative cheese and leek pie plus great steak version. A nice range of well kept beers and lovely service. Very calm and cosy atmosphere for a relaxed lunch.

Service very poor waited over 60mins for our food no explanation or apology needless to say we won't be going again

Always nice staying here! Open fireplace, nice beer, good breakfast, and a treasure chest of cookies, tea, coffee, AND hot chocolate, I appreciate the latter. ❤️

Great place to stay to explore Hebden Bridge. Dog friendly, comfy rooms, good food and nice staff.

The pie and chips were excellent but the gravy was like dish water, if it wasn't for the gravy I would have given 5 stars.

We didn't stay here but had an amazing meal here. They do amazing burgers! Would definitely come here again!

We had an absolutely fantastic meal at! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with friendly staff who made us feel right at home. The food was incredible—every dish was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. "The steak and ale pie was the best we've ever had!" The portions were generous, and everything arrived hot and beautifully presented. The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive, and they made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The pub itself had a lovely charm, with a cozy, relaxed vibe that made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Throughly enjoyable couple of nights at the white lion and in Hebden Bridge.

Great range of Real Ales and an excellent food menu. Well worth a visit if you are in Hebden Bridge.

Warm and comfy place with tasty food

service was exceptional especially from a lady at the bar called megan, her service & drinks she made were amazing. very kind & charismatic. made us feel so comfortable away from home, definitely recommend !!

Had the pleasure to dine at 1657, experiencing the tasting menu. Every dish was absolutely mind blowing, with expertly paired wines complimenting each course. The pre dinner cocktail also delivered, and the genuine, warm, friendly service truly stood out

We had lunch, it was very nice. We chose 3 for £12 for starters, the frickles were nice, crispy and the dips were nice. The falafel salad could have done with more falafel, there were only 5 in a big bowl. The burgers were nice as was the fish and chips. Reasonable price, £100 including drinks and coffee.

Decent pub menu and lovely atmosphere & service.

We have just had a lovely 2 night stay here and everything was spot on, accommodation , food and staff were excellent, we felt very welcome even with our dog. We would love to stay again and highly recommend

Room was dark and ill thought out in layout of furniture.Small details like lack of shaving light/mirror,impractical position of tea+coffee station,two piece dressing mirror,only one comfortable seat irked within this price bracket.Likewise Full English breakfast lacked quality ingredients.Which was a surprise as all other meals were excellent.Staff were friendly,efficient and helpful.(If these issues are addressed I'd happily award 5stars matching the price.)

Great food, never felt rushed, happy enthusiastic staff.

Good old fashioned pub with rooms .very good quality food and beers and wine .steaks cooked to perfection. Service was a little slow when we first arrived but got better as the evening went along. Would recommend and will visit again when back in hebden bridge

We had a lovely weekend, staying for a wedding nearby. The staff in the White Lion are a real team - everyone trying their best to give us a great experience. Facilities, food, accommodation and the warm welcome were all on point. Excellent value for money too.

Top notch in all respects (bar parking which, in the centre of a historic town, is understandable). The room was superb, about twice the size of a typical hotel room! and very well appointed. In the bar there was a good selection of beers and cider, and food from the kitchen was very tasty and reasonably priced.

Had a lovely 1 night stay here in the Hardcastle suit , what a beautiful room . Breakfast was amazing , staff were so lovely and welcoming, would definitely stay here and again. 😊

Three of us ate here this evening, and we were really disappointed. Have eaten here before several times and really enjoyed the food, but tonight the portions had been reduced, and the quality had taken a noticeable turn for the worse. The fish and chips were poor, and the three-cheese pie had little taste. Unfortunately, the service wasn't great, either, and we felt we had to chase to get attention. A real shame, as this is a great venue and I've had some lovely evenings here.

Nice place, but car parking is a problem. Even if you have booked a room you will be unlikely to get a spot at the hotel. On top of that, I found public parking was packed out too. The food and the room was good. Lots of noise from traffic and deliveries. I won't return here.

Had Sunday lunch which I found disappointing. Roast potatoes looked as though they had not seen the inside of an oven, same with the parsnips which were totally undercooked. The slow roast lamb was not as tender as others I have had and being rolled it was somewhat not very easy to eat. I do wish that the majority of restaurants would use bigger plates as a high pile of food is difficult to keep on the plate and is unfortunately not very aesthetic.

The room we stayed in was noisy and cold. The food we ordered for the evening meal came out cold and then we struggled to get the attention of the staff to give feedback at the time. Hebden Bridge is lovely though

superb meal today one of the best Sunday lunches i have had for a long time.

Went for some lunch today, just about every table was reserved so we sat in the area reserved for dogs. I got a pint of beer which was sour and clearly off. I took it back and politely said I think it was off but there was no apology and it was like I'd done something wrong. We got a beef sandwich and bread nibbles. The beef was tough but ok, the bread was nice. I've given them 2 stars as the gravy was excellent. The bread nibbles were a joke, I was expecting a plate of artisan bread, but it was two slices of brown bread and some butter and it cost £5.50... Won't be returning.
