We went here for our works christmas meal. 9 of us! We were made to feel very welcome. The food was amazing, service 100%. The pub is warm and cosy , a real country pub vibe. We each said that we'd definitely be coming back here. A really nice place ran by people that clearly care

Bar staff very friendly, food is top notch. Location a bit of the beaten track, but definitely worth the journey for a fresh pint and some food.

Our third trip to the White Lion who always deliver particularly with the food. Having previously enjoyed the fish and chips, this time I found the mixed grill awesome! I would also recommend enjoying a dessert. We will of course be returning. Great music and relaxed atmosphere. My wife picks the curry every time!

Came here for their opening night of their beer festival. The pub was completely full yet the staff were still so attentive. Tried one of their pizzas which were so good! Really nice community pub!!

Having received good reviews we decided to try The White Lion at Bramcote, Nottingham and were truly given a wonderful Christmas lunch with extremely good food and service. It most certainly is recommended but a word of warning, one needs to book well in advance as every day appears busy! We friends visited the pub. Excellent staff. Though we did not have a reservation, the lady sorted us out. I had one of the best chilli salmon. The portions are very generous and very happy with everything. Well maintained place and good music.

Not been here for years, ( many years ) . I always remember it as warm and welcoming, with excellent ale and good food. Well it still is in every way . Friendly staff as one would expect. Quality always shines through.

Whenever we have visited and had a meal at lunchtime it has always been excellent. The special 2 for 1 is great. I usually go for steak, my favourite.

This was a second visit to this place in about 2 years so one might assume it can't have been too bad the first time around. The truth is, I have a shocking memory so I can't really remember the first visit, but if it's also true we generally only remember the very bad things and also the very good things in life I suppose it could be argued it had been OK to mediocre.So, this second visit then. A meeting with old and good friends who live locally. Not much about the service impressed me, in fact at times it was down right shocking. From an incomprehensible member of the bar staff who not only seemed to have difficulty with the fact that I wanted to pay for my order of two meals up front (not run a tab) to where we were sitting (the table of 6 over there that you directed us to when we arrived). It was a little like a real life Fawlty Towers sketch so in a way quite amusing. It took a while to get food ordered, a standard lasagne and a sirloin steak special called the Wexford, with a lovely described sauce, but somehow the order was manually typed in to the till and we got through the ordeal.A bit of a wait for the food, nothing extraordinarily long though and the food began to arrive. Confusion over the order ensued, some people got food, two did not. There was a long wait for the final two meals which on arrival one was wrong, mine."Shouldn't this steak have sauce on"? I enquired. The waitress takes it back and re appears some minutes later with apparently the same steak with a bit of sauce on it. Growing suspicious I asked if this was the Wexford special. I could see mounting confusion in the waitress. "Yes, it's steak with sauce" she replied. "Nope, it's not the Wexford special is it"? I looked around to see my friends with plates almost emptied and food nearly all eaten. What with the comical floor show whilst ordering, the wait for the food, then the extended wait whilst my incorrect meal was delivered and the fact that others amongst the group were well in to their meal I decided I didn't want a repeat performance or the wait and asked for my money back.This was where it gets interesting. An attempt by the waitress to refund me for a cheaper steak was accompanied with an accusation I had somehow caused the problem by ordering rump steak. I was growing exasperated. So, with a calculator and my receipt in hand, a quick mathematics lesson later and it was conceded that yes, I had in fact ordered the Wexford special.I don't personally tolerate fools easily but if you enjoy that sort of experience then this is the pub for you. From the point of ordering to the receipt of my money back this was an excruciating and frustrating experience for me.But, it's not all bad. My friends said their food was OK. The pub was fairly busy which suggests mine could have been an isolated experience and I had a nice pint of Abbott Ale to boot. I would have rated this as terrible but as my partner and I were leaving early to catch the Chinese Takeaway before it shut, the chef/owner(?) came out and gave an explanation from his point of view and was apologetic about the bar/waiting staff and food mix-up so I rate it as poor instead.Would I go back?See the Review Title!

Sunday lunch £7.95 with soup starter !

We have just held our wedding anniversary party here. What a great venue! The pub is not large but there is space for dancing and a great atmosphere is generated in the space. Some of our guests commented that the intimacy made the night. We hired "A night with you" , a duo that also played records. They were excellent. The pub supplied a brilliant buffet and the beer here is always good. If you have calibration coming up and are looking for a good venue you should consider the White Lion. Recommend.

I went with my partner, who is more familiar with it. I have been a couple or three of times. Once, we could not be served, as there was a funeral wake taking place, so we went elsewhere. Then we had a nice meal. The table was a little small, I have to say. I don't think they could have gotten a smaller table if they had tried! A small pub, but nice.

So, we're driving down the M1 when I do a trip advisor for pub grub, saw this as a 4 1/2 star.

Visited on Friday lunchtime for the first time in years and sat in the pleasant garden. Drinks were excellent: San Miguel and beautifully kept Old Golden Hen. Food was also excellent and really good value with a varied menu including several veggie options. We had battered fish, chips and mushy peas and a Ploughmans. Fish was enjoyed by other half and everything on my Ploughmans was perfect, from what looked like home-made pork pie to what was homemade pickle and beautifully thick-cut ham. I had to prioritise what to eat as it was too big for me and nearly asked for a doggy bag for the pork pie. Slight negative was part-baked baguette accompanying it which was a bit anaemic and tasteless. Service was quick and pleasant, tables cleared quickly and they checked we'd enjoyed our meals.

This is our local and we can't get enough, the staff are all lovely and the pub itself is the very definition of a traditional pub. Beautiful. The food is wonderful and the quiz nights are a lot of fun. Well worth a visit

Without knowing the area finding the right sort of place for a family lunch was not easy but well worth the search. This is an old fashioned English pub producing genuine home cooked food and making an excellent job of it. All 6 different mains were served piping hot together and were totally dispatched. I could not fault the quality, portions, service or prices which all added up to a great value lunch. Will certainly be calling again when in the area.

In pub chain United Kingdom it's hard to find 'proper pubs' and this is definitely one. Top hand pulled ales and top pub food. I love this place.

We went in recently for a drink on the way home from shopping. The pub seems popular with the locals and got a oldie worldly type of character to the interior. The pub is small but nice and serves hot drinks as well as normal pub beverages and a nice menu on offer also. The landlord was nice and friendly who served us which makes you want to go back.

I first went in this pub 60 years ago with my grandad. Known locally as the" top house",I it was opposite where my great grandad Squire Ginever lived and farmed.This 300year old Pub is a favourite venue of many locals.Excellent beers and a quinine to die for,Ivan the landlord has very high standards . The gents toilets are a must as it is done out with pictures and quotations of Sir Winston Churchill.Ivan resembles a young Winston.

Six of us celebrated Burns Night at The White Lion - Great authentic menu, delicious as always and good value for money. Highlight was the Scottish piper and raising a toast to the haggis.

Had Sunday dinner here today, was great. Service impeccable and great home style food, no chain pub blandness. Two courses plus two kids meals with drinks £40 We reminded ourselves that we need to eat locally more often.

Went for Sunday lunch with family and really enjoyed it.We had the 2 course Sunday roast and soup.The soup came with a roll and was very nice the roast we had beef plenty of it.On the whole portion size generous and well cooked.Will definitely go again but best to book in advance as it was busy which is no surprise.

Having been here a few times for a meal, and holding the wake for my father's funeral here 5 years ago, it seemed the ideal choice of venue for my Mum's 90th birthday. We could not have had better treatment if we had gone to The Ritz. It was easy to book the venue (by email initially) for the 24 people who were invited. It was very easy to speak to the staff after the initial booking by phone. We had an incredible deal, a really reasonable price for a 3 course Sunday lunch, the pub was warm when we arrived and our tables were reserved. It was easy to set up a tab behind the bar and there were plenty of staff on, who began serving us straight away. The food was delicious and there was lots of it. I cannot fault it in any way and we will definitely be returning. I would recommend this place for a meal or a proper celebration/occasion.

My wife and I paid a first time visit to the White Lion for a meal on the recommendation of friends. It's a lovely old pub with ample car parking.

Our regular meeting place for the last 10 years. Excellent food, good friendly staff. Regular special events.

My wife and I booked a table for a Special Tea ( High tea) to celebrate our Anniversary. On arrival, the table was all set out nicely for us with fine china crockery. A member of staff brought us a massive pot of tea and a cake stand full of sandwiches, scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream and a dessert each. We really enjoyed the food and were really looked after. We have been here for nice meals before and will certainly come again.

We regularly eat here and never had cause to complain. Good food at a fair price - that is the £9 meals for 2. Excellent beer and friendly bar staff. Looking forward to our next meal soon.

We've had great meals in this characterful pub and enjoyed some very pleasant evenings enjoying some top beers and wines. But on too many occasions our food orders have been refused for being "2 minutes too late, because the bar staff were chatting" or "because the chef decided to shut the kitchen early (on a Sunday)". We were treated with disdain when we complained. I have raised this with the owner who said he would listen but clearly hasn't. As a result, we no longer visit, despite it being in a convenient spot and would rather travel for better and more reliable service, I'm sorry to say.

this was our first time at the White Lion. We went with two friends who also had not eaten there before. There is an ample car park which is a plus as roadside parking would not be advised. The bar area also doubles as eating area and when we arrived at 7 pm several people were already dining.There was a choice of four or five different ales. We went on a Thursday which apparently is their Grill Night when they offer Rump steak, Gammon and Mixed Grill as the specials. I opted for the 12 oz gammon which was nicely presented with hand-cut chips (the menu seems to make a big thing of this) a rather overcooked fried egg and and some peas. The gammon was very chewy and I found about a third of it totally inedible. To be fair, my three companions said their meals were 'OK'. Our server did ask at the end of our meal if everything was alright and, when I told her about the gammon, said "I'll tell him". No apology or reduction was offered. In my opinion this is just a mediocre food pub and I will not be rushing back.

It's a while since we ve been here but it was just as friendly as we remembered. More to the point, the lady behind the bar remembered us which was lovely. The food is hearty and delicious and always generously portioned. We won't leave it so long next time.

Having just moved into the area, we were delighted to find this lovely warm pub in walking distance to the new house. We were warmly greeted and made to feel very welcome. Cant wait to return to try the food. Menu looks lovely and going by the amount of people who were eating there, looks very popular and tasty. Like the look of the beer garden , too. Plenty of car parking spaces. Happy staff and happy customers. What a great find!

I hadn't visited this pub for a while and was not disappointed in the place it was a superb meal, served piping hot and a substantial portion to boot. My partner and I opted for the steak and kidney pudding with hand cut chips and mushy peas. FANTASTIC. The surroundings staff and general ambience are all the ingredients of how a pub should be. Recommended and going back for the fish and chips, which looked monstrously huge.

This pub really is a gem, not ruined by fancy modern decor or frivolity, a superb selection of ales, not to mention single malts, all served with a smile and good banter from the staff, can't go without mentioning the excellent food..quite simply bloody marvelous, hot and plentiful and very well priced.

I went up with my dad on a Friday night, and we sat in a cosy corner of the pub and had a wonderful meal. It's very welcoming and homely, with brilliant value for money! The staff were down to earth and very helpful :) they had a good selection of food and good quality ales! Would definitely recommend booking prior as was very busy.

I used to go with friends to have dinner there for the grill night on Thursday. It was very good at the beginning, over time however it started to slip in quality. Steaks were getting smaller and sides smaller. Last time I have been was a complete disaster: steaks were smelly, really chewy. The gammon was served rare. Both were delivered with almost no vegetable sides but worst part were the chips: pale and soggy like they were fried in cold oil...I might give it another go in the future but if stays this bad it will be the last time I go dinner there...

Note that coming from the A52 that the car park is on the left just before the pub, it's not immediately obvious. The slope to the front door is fairly steep and has a couple of steps, if you had mobility issues it may be a problem. The welcome was good and I had a nice conversation with who I assume was the landlord. I went on a Wednesday which is Curry night. The normal menu is also available. Food was ordered and delivered promptly. While basic it was well cooked and tasty. The salad is undressed which makes a refreshing change and the chips are made in house, again a nice change from 'frozen' chips. Value was also good.

A nice local pub, with decent grub and good beer. Good place to bring the kids too, particularly on a nice day. There is a nice enclosed garden with a hen house.

We visited the White Lion for my Mother in laws birthday meal after driving past it for about 20 years, and we are so glad we did. There is a lack of decent pubs in the area and after reading reviews in Tripadvisor and checking menu on-line booked a table. We arrived to a wonderful smell of food. Lovely cosy interior with nice traditional decor, and lack of glaring music. Tables are a bit close together but pub was not busy so fine. Staff very friendly and landlord told us specials were available, recommending the fish pie or battered fish. My son picked the battered fish, my husband the beef pie and myself and Mum picked the fish medley. All meals arrived quickly, piping hot, smelling delicious and wow the size of the portion was amazing. My son's fish was the size of the plate, with pile of homemade chips and pot of mushy peas (best fish ever and from an 11year old praise indeed), my husband's pie looked delicious with large pieces of beef in a thick gravy with new potatoes and fresh veg, our fish medley consisted of four different pieces of battered and breaded fish, chips and mushy peas. We couldn't finish it all which was a pity as so tasty. Another round of drinks were had and some time later we had puddings. There wasn't much choice but what we had again was very tasty. We have already planned on visiting again to sample other dishes and have recommended it to friends and family- next time we will arrive starving so can finish our plates. Excellent food at great price, what more could you ask for!

The White Lion happened to be convenient for us (a group of ex-work colleagues, meeting up) and we found a pub with a good lunch menu with a good atmosphere (and for me good beer). The food was well prepared and well presented and enjoyed by all.

We were in the area on a day out with friends and was looking for somewhere for lunch, after checking trip advisor the white lion had the best reviews of any pub in the area, we therefore decided to give it a try, it was a good decision. There was four of us in our party and none of us could fault the food, price or service. The food is home cooked, great quality and very reasonably priced, we will definitely be visiting again the next time we are in the area. It's so nice to find a nice pub serving good home cooked food.

Food was pretty poor. But the Chris de Burgh lookalike Barman / Waiter / Landlord seriously needs to cheer up.

3 of us were on a trip down memory lane and the choice of venue for lunch in Beeston/Chilwell/Bramcote was very limited with very poor reviews for most hostelries - all except the White Lion, The lunch menu was brilliant and we were not disappointed! Surf&Turf;, Fish&Chips; and Vegetarian Pie were all superb and amazingly generous.

Been going here since 1980 and has not changed {for the good} Good oldie worldie pub with good food and in a nice setting not spoilt by sky tv man u v arsnal or some fruit machines etc...

May be a bit biased as I'm from the village, but I still frequent regularly despite not living local. A quaint traditional old man pub, in an intimate setting which is friendly to all customers (including well behaved dogs). Good lunchtime and evening food deals. Nice garden and patio for summer. No loud banging music or groups of 'lads'. Can't recommend this absolute gem of a pub. Forever my local with love :)

This is a little gem of a local pub, the food is all freshly cooked which makes a pleasant change from the usual microwaved meals you get at similar pubs! Service was warm and friendly - I had a steak and it was perfect and my husband had a chicken curry which was extremely tasty! Nice bottle of wine too. Will be going again.

I took my family to the White Lion and the food and service was fantastic! The staff made a real effort to engage with my children which meant we could relax and enjoy a fantastic mixed grill...meat lovers paradise! We just wanted to emphasize to anyone that may be thinking of eating and relaxing at the White Lion ,that this is by far one of the best pubs for food and atmosphere around,, a local traditional british pub where the food is excellent and the staff are very friendly and welcoming,, we have been many a time and always chose to eat here, we find the food faultless and wot more could you ask for when if you decide to eat from the 2 for 9 pounds menu that you get more than your moneys worth( much better value than when you pay top prices for manky macdonalds rubbish) ,,we went at lunch time on Friday just gone and although it was fairly busy the food came quickly and hot, and delicious, all i can say to the last rating that was reviewed, is that they must have been on one of those times where things just didnt work for them.!! as we find no problems whenever we go.....Just look at all the other reviews they say it all as well... Sorry,I don't know where you are Coming from saying the food in the White Lion or top house as we call is terrible. We have eaten in this pub regularly for a long time. The food is always very nice fresh and tasty.

Cannot emphasise enough how bad our food was.Chicken tasted as if it had been microwaved. Chips were raw and vegetables were certainly not fresh. I'm not usually the type of person to complain but it really was that bad. To top it off, the lager (San Miguel) tasted flat and there were children running around everywhere. This was around 8:30 on a Saturday evening. Certainly the first and last time we'll be going there.

Recently visited this wonderful traditional English pub And I'm so glad that we did the food was amazing with great choices all homemade with the best chips in the world ever This place is a must especially for their in house battered cod

Lovey traditional local pub, great atmosphere, great service and really amazing food. Went last night for tea with the girls, we all had different meals and we all thoroughly enjoyed our choice from a great menu.
