Very pleasant and friendly pub, families also welcomed, the food is well cooked by a quality chef, so happily recommend the White Lion, well done Adam and Co.

Recommend by friends for a Fish and chip meal and we were not disappointed. £6 95p Haddock or scampi. Loved it ++ My wife and I have now eaten here 5 times and the quality and service are 100% and the price. The best Haddock a chips anywhere. loved it ++Still excellent value.💋

I have not eaten there but the ambience is very nice. Welcoming staff and locals. Reasonably priced too.

Food and drink was OK. But sadly not a family friendly pub. Only came because it looked like the only pub in the area with a kids playground but that’s now gone. Only two high chairs, one of which was broken. And baby change only in the ladies toilets which is very old fashioned.

We had a great time today at The White Lion in Bengeo for St Patrick's day. Great music and of course delicious Guinness. Lovely local crowd were really welcoming, we will definitely be coming back 😊

Superb fish n chips and incredible value at £6.95. Lovely and efficient staff. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you have a good appetite as portions are large. Equally lovely juicy beef burger, cooked to perfection with super chips too. Amazing value at £10.

Homely pub. We were told to sit where we liked and the service came with a lovely smile. Rather cold in the dining area and the pub should have utilised the fireplace to warm the place up rather than just have fairy lights in it. My wife ordered ham off the bone, chips and egg and I ordered a crispy chicken burger. To be honest neither were that great although cooked well and presentation was good the chicken burger was tasteless and the wife's ham looked like gammon out of a tin which was slimy and again tasteless. Everything else was great.

Popped in for a drink and received a warm welcome and had little chat. Pub of all, nice family garden, with different seating. Big screen for sport on main bar and nice seating for eating. Nicely decorated. Lovely tasting Doombar and wine served in a nice glass.

Went here to watch one of the rugby world cup games, nice pub with what seemed a few locals but friendly nonetheless. Staff were friendly and helpful and the beef burger was the best I've had in a long time, I'd go back for the burger alone! It felt homemade and was cooked to perfection! Only downside is that they played music instead of the rugby commentary so it was hard to know what was happening but it was a Saturday night so it makes sense to have some music! Will definitely return.

The Pub looked really nice inside and a large Pub garden at the back... Atmosphere was really good... Got served quickly and served with politeness.... Worth another visit in the future....?

Never been here before but we will come back, popped in for a drink and walked through to the beer garden, what a lovely space! Really big area so lots of space, they have a tent like structure across the middle so a little cover if you need it. Lots of tables and chairs, some chairs have backs as well so not all picnic benches. They had live music the night we went and it was an amazing atmosphere, people up dancing, really lovely It was Friday Fizz and Gin night so a gin and tonic was on offer I think £5... whole thing was fab

Proper old fashioned pub with sports tv and darts board. Clientele mainly council housers ..bald 70s guys and obese cackling women. Perfect! Food prices about the same as the Ivy but bigger portions

Visited the White lion public house this afternoon or a drink and a meal. There was a very nice vibe in the pub itself but we chose to eat in the garden this was also very nice. We had 2 ribs, 1 roast beef and one katsu curry. The ribs were the best I've had in a long while. Fantastic food would definitely recommend.

Great atmosphere and lovely staff

We’ve just moved to Hertford and on a walk exploring the area we came across the White Lion and decided to stop for lunch and what a great decision. The pub is lovely inside, really tastefully done out with a welcoming atmosphere (not like some places ive been in the past when you’re a new face) the staff found us a table for lunch even though we hadn’t booked and looked after us for a very enjoyable few hours. The landlord Adam came over to introduce himself when he heard we were newbies and made us feel very welcome, told us all about the regular calendar of events they put on like the Reggae / Ska night with Jerk Chicken and live band in a few weeks that we’ll definitely be coming back for. We can see us spending many happy times with Adam Karen and his staff at their pub and can’t recommend it highly enough. I haven’t even mentioned the big beer garden! Jonny & Mag

Lovely family local, we need more pubs like this. An old Yorkshire saying "use it or loose it" and use it the locals do. Amazingly friendly place to enjoy the fayre. We'll done the staff.

Went to the White Lion at lunchtime to day Hoping to enjoy their brilliant garden. Our experience was ruined when the chef decided to play rave music in his kitchen at full blast! We had to move to the front garden in order to get away from the racket.! Is this pub there for the staff or the customers! Will I revisit this pub ? NO

Really friendly and warm welcome for 5 ladies having lunch. This was matched by a crackling open fire. Different food chosen and enjoyed by all. It was especially nice that the chef came out to introduce himself and to check we all enjoyed it. Wewill be returning. 😊

Is ok when i went in on a Sunday Afternoon but is no doubt better at other times.

The roast dinner although it was presented well and had some good flavour had obviously been sitting in the oven pre cooked for hours, it was so bad when eventually I managed to cut a roast potatoe there was nothing inside ! Never seen one so dried up and shrivelled. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were inedible. I was offered replacements by the very polite and helpful waitress but by that time is eaten the rest. In short they should not have been sent out of the kitchen. I paid full price for 2 carrots a ball of stuffing, a parsnip and a few greens..plus 1 slice of beef... with 2 ice cream sundaes the bill came to £60.. oh I had to laugh at the cheek of the Terrys chocolate orange cheesecake... it was crumb base with I'm sure just actual cream cheese and 1 segment of a Terrys chocolate orange poked into it, presented in a cup and saucer. Once the orange segment was eaten there was no orange flavour at all...and yes i had 2 puddings because i didn't feel like I'd eaten any dinner at all...on top of all this there were around 15 very noisy men at the bar, it wasn't a pleasant experience at all.

Staff were great and served us with a smile...Sat in the garden with my daughter and grandaughters..They loved the slide and was entertained on the play area.

We went here for the first time for Sunday lunch. The roast beef was superb, both my wife and I had it. The potatoes, vegetables and gravy delicious. Excellent service throughout by friendly and helpful staff. There was a live band afterwards and we stayed until the very end. We will definitely go back!

Often have live music but columns make sight lines difficult. Back garden is OK for outside seating . It's a popular and lively pub.
