White Lion in Carmarthenshire

Bizarre place. Took 30 minutes for them to make a jacket potato which was old and green, with watery tuna mayo. Bleak atmosphere being badgered by the people at the bar about who knows what (foxes mauling chickens??). Left my food and then took a further 40 minutes to pay while they argued about the card machine and made phone calls. Do they ever have any real customers? No suggestion of a refund or discount. Real mood kill atmosphere after a lovely day. Grim. I hate to leave negative reviews but honestly, this was terrible.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch at this olde worlde pub today everything was fresh and hot and very reasonably priced. Staff were lovely can't fault it. Will definitely be going back soon for another Sunday lunch.

Bit of a distance from where we were staying but worth the drive. The Inn is oldy worldy with an unusual setting inside. Menus is extensive and some of the meals are massive. If you want a meal with a difference this is the place to go . Treat yourself. We did. Would definitely go again and can highly recommend the Inn and the meals. GIVE IT A GO.

Omg.. few days away in the van and just typed in food near me.. the barmaid or owner was a lovely person.. well mannered and felt welcome even tho nit from the area.. I had surf and turf and my dad had the sirloin.. didnt even need a steak knife to cut the meat.. I will even say it was the best steak I have ever tasted and the portion was huge.. will defo go back

We ordered a Sunday lunch ( pre ordered Saturday ready for collection 1pm Sunday). Sunday lunch was delicious- proper home cooked dinner. Also amazing value 2 starters and 2 Sunday lunches for 2 adults under £20. Cant fault it. Staff are also welcoming when we collected. This is the second time we've ordered, and this time it was even more delicous.

Amazing food with a lovely friendly welcome. We went here for Sunday lunch to be greeted by a lovely lady who showed us to our table, the food was amazing with so much choice. We had 3 dogs with us who all had there own little carvery amazing👍 a brilliant pub run by people who give brilliant customer service.

We had a party of 16 people for a birthday. The staff were amazing from the day of booking, when we got there we couldn’t have asked for better service. Everyone had a friendly face, a positive attitude and overall amazing. The food was outstanding, best steak I’ve ever had. Will definitely be back!

After a 6 HR journey we fell across this wonderfully inviting inn at 9 pm I asked if they were still serving and they were eager to oblige The food was made fresh for us and was delicious Highly recommended

Lovely pub, about 14 of us arrived at once. There was an issue with the plumbing in the kitchen, but when the food came out it was great. Proper old pub, pool table and sport on the tv. Great afternoon.

Friendly pub serving good food. We called in unplanned on a walk. There were16 of us and there was a little wait as expected but we all enjoyed our meals - especially the chips! Well done.

We called in after visiting some local CADW sites. It was a fairly basic menu but rather fancied the cooked breakfast, so ordered the Lion and Cub versions. It took a while to be cooked but was worth the wait; but what a lot of food and it was delicious. We didn't touch the bread and butter that came with it as we were pretty full ... nor could we manage a dessert. The place was good, local customers and landlord very chatty & engaging and thoroughly enjoyable food ... what's not to love? Comes hightly recommended and we look forward to returning.

Holidaying in Wales, chose to eat here as read the good reviews.....think they are made up! Ended up waiting over an hour for the starters, not ideal when you have a 3 year old with you plus elderly parents. There were no others eating either, just 2 people in the bar. My mums 2 choices of main course werent available. Our grandsons kids meal was actually the best one that came out of the kitchen. My jacket was a wizened microwave one and i had a chicken breast that was just served plain......tough and dry, plus cold peas. We literally couldnt wait to get out of there. By far the worst dining out experience any of us have had!!

I've just had a beautiful Stilton & veg crumble in the pub and it was absolutely lovely. The jacket potato that accompanied it was super delicious, too. You could feel it was lovingly prepared. My friend had a burger and he loved it - and he knows a good beef patty as he owes one of the best gourmet burger places in the country. Five stars!

My Welsh conversation group has been meeting at the White Lion twice a month for several years, and Annne and Keith always make us very welcome. In winter the back bar always has a glorious log fire. We have had several Christmas meals there in past years, which have always been good. This year there were 14 of us, and the food lived up to Anne's normal excellent standard. Before beginning the meal, we had a choice of orange juice or mulled wine. As a starter, I had a prawn cocktail which had plenty of prawns on crispy lettuce, while others had homemade vegetable soup or garlic button mushrooms, all with fresh rolls and real butter. To follow, some of us had salmon or beef whilst I had turkey, and our sole vegetarian had a choice of mushroom stroganoff or stilton crumble. I have never seen such an extensive selection of vegetable accompaniments! The roast potatoes were perfect - golden, crispy and crunchy with fluffy centres, and there were plenty of them. The mashed potato was smooth and creamy, and the roast parsnips golden and perfectly cooked. Besides this, there were carrots, peas and sprouts, plus cauliflower cheese and mashed swede. Plenty of gravy and accompanying sources were served, and everything was beautifully cooked. For dessert I had a home-made Malteser cheesecake, which was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted, whilst others had Christmas pudding, and home-made trifle was also available. Tea, coffee and home-made mincemeat slices finished off the meal. All this for £17.00 per head, which we all felt was excellent value.

Ann will cook anytime for you! Her burgers are hot, delicious and served with fries and salad to your liking! Sunday lunch is buffet style and you can help yourself to the tasty roasted parsnips and potatoes. There is a lot of choice on the hot plates. Keith is a superb landlord and makes you feel very welcome. Dogs are a feature in the bar. A fantastic family pub.

Staying at cl on A40 and decided to have a meal out. Went to the White Lion with friends and had a lovely meal. Was so satisfied we went back today. So would highly recommend it.

What a find for a Sunday dinner! We were lucky enough to get a table despite not booking. I would however recommend booking as they get really busy. Food was lovely and very well priced

Really good old school pub. Great value food that really hit the spot. We went when there was a rugby international on, even so we had no problem finding a spot to eat. Staff are really friendly and helpful. There should be more places like this around.
