Very friendly and efficient service - had the most delicious lunch - the macaroni cheese was amazing - and the portions are very generous. Would highly recommend this lovely pub if you are in Sturminster Newton.

Sorry but too hot and miss to visit again. One Sunday lunch was outstanding, the next visit was very poor. Cold pork and it all seemed like it had been microwaved badly. Some veg warm , some cold.

Booked a table in the bar and was moved to the restaurant. The restaurant is totally void of atmosphere. Food for 6 people came out in 3 lots of 2, each arriving after the previous 2 had finished their meal (we joked that they didn’t have enough plates, but actually it was just awful service). 2 meals were terrible and the staff didn’t care. 4 meals were below average. In summary - there are plenty of pubs int he area and it’s not worth bothering to try this one in my view

To start with the menu on the website doesn't match what the menu is on arrival, we did ask and was told that it is a couple of months out of date Food menu is limited if you don't like spices on food Service was very slow and the pub wasn't busy It looked to be run by teenagers who did their best and were polite and helpful Food when it arrives was nice, fresh and value for money Am afraid we won't be back Shame as we had gone there for a birthday lunch and was disappointed

Poor pint,tasted like the lines are not cleaned properly. I've eaten fish n chips the length and breadth of the country;what I eat last night must be up there with one of the worst.

We were shown to a well set-out upstairs room which was freezing, and were promised they’d turn on the heating -a promise which remained unfulfilled. We waited ages for our meal which turned out to have been mistakenly given to another couple upstairs. The waitress seemed a little perturbed when we said we didn’t want the chicken meal destined for the other couple who were happy to continue eating the beef meal we’d ordered . The pub seemed so disorganised.

I have been here with my husband, friends and family quite a few times over the last year and every time the service has been great and the food fantastic. Absolutely recommend the burgers, fish and chips, steak and dirty fries. Really great selection of Ales (and other options of course) and it's nice to find somewhere where you can just go for a few drinks or have a meal and not feel rushed to leave.

We ate here a couple of times in the week we stayed in Sturminster Newton and would happily come back again. Very decent pub grub with friendly service and no pretensions. Very dog friendly too.

What lovely gastropub food and the friendly service in this traditional alehouse in the heart of the north Dorset town of Sturminster Newton. Five of my friends and I discovered this pub and everything we ordered we all thoroughly enjoyed. The portions were plentiful and the chef’s presentation of this homemade delicious foods, including chicken salad, carrot and ginger soup, chicken wings, stuffed mushrooms, triple cooked chips (mine with bacon, melted cheese and paprika dip nom, nom). They obviously enjoy making this scrummy food…and we definitely will be visiting again and helping them eat it 😋

We recently retired the White Hart having heard the Landlady Sam was away during our last visit. The pub has definitely improved, its a lot cleaner (maybe a new carpet would help more) The beer quality has improved on the last visits with bright beer at a good temperature. The staff are a lot better. Having looked at the menu again. It could do with an update, as it hasn't changed with the seasons.

Food was very tasty and excellent value for money, not overpriced like some pubs. The staff friendly and welcoming with efficient service. Plenty of outside seating if you want to, inside is cosy and welcoming.

You walk into a pub with superb old fashioned ambience and very friendly staff. This pub is THE MOST DOG FRIENDLY pub I have ever been to. The owners dogs will come and say hello to you probably before the staff get a chance to. There is always a great selection of ales and spirits and the food is plentiful with some basics and different alternatives. A must visit if you come to Stur.

Went here for drinks yesterday with my family, my mum Sarah and her boyfriend Ken are regulars and the pub didn’t disappoint. Amazing if you love dogs, which we do! Will be returning today for a roast dinner because it was so lovely :)

When open, the busiest pub in Sturminster which says volumes. In lockdown they are pulling all the stops out to try to survive. Takeaways are great but the Sunday lunches are absolutely awesome. Can't recommend highly enough.

I love this place, you can literally feel the effort Matt and Sam put into the Alehouse. It's has a great vibe, with great food, ales and gins to match. It's the heart of the town.

New, enthusiastic licencees are refurbishing this rather neglected, but characterful pub. First impressions are very good. Great selection of ales, spirits and wine. The kitchen is being completely refitted, and will be up and running in the next or so. Worth a visit.
