The staff were tremendously helpful

Not the cheapest chippy but great food and incredible efficiency of service. Had about fifteen people in front of me in the takeaway but was out in less than ten minutes.

Poor... today 13/03/25 my wife and I walked out of Whitbys. We ordered jumbo 16oz cod chips and peas, and small cod chips and peas, and bread and butter. To drink we ordered a pot of tea for my wife, and I asked for a pint of John Smiths. My wifes drink and the bread arrived but my drink didn't materialise. I like a drink before and during my meal to unwind and as an aid to digestion. I enquired about my drink twice and was told several times that the barrel was being changed. This took at lot longer than previous experiences of this type in pubs, bars, restaurants etc. Unfortunately, our food arrived before this situation was resolved. I couldn't imagine trying to eat such a big meal without a drink and I didn't want to sit there staring at it whist I continued to wait and whilst my wife tucked into her meal. We both felt that our visit to Whitbys was marred and so we sent the food back to the kitchen and told the staff that we were leaving. I don't understand why things like barrels etc couldn't have been checked before the restaurant was opened or why a bar towel wasn't placed over the pump. In that case I would have ordered an alternative drink... or why our foood wasn't held back until we both had our drinks. We were looking forward to our visit to Whitbys but it was a big dissapointment.

It's the best chippy around, as far as I'm concerned.

If you want some Decent Fish and Chips. Definitely worth a Punt. I had Haddock & Chips. It was a fair Price and the Fish was really Tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Whitbys in Rotherham are the most consistent fish and chips establishment ever. Always great service. The restaurant including toilets are always spotless and the fish and chips etc. Are just first class I absolutely love this place.

Another fantastic good meal, my only gripe is the price of a glass of soft drink at £3.45 which is more than 1 third the price of the actual meal !! It won't stop us coming back but the cost of the drinks is outrageous !

Quick to order, quick service, tasty food.

Three of us ate in the restaurant. We all had fish and chips. The quality of the food and service was excellent. We shall be going again soon and would highly recommend.

Family meal and although it was very busy we were soon served by a very friendly waitress and the meals were beautiful. I had haddock and chips which was cooked to perfection with the lightest crispy batter.

Amazing takeaway gluten free fish and chips (with great variety available on that menu). All prepared separately with gluten free vinegar available. Can't comment on the restaurant atmosphere as I have never been in the restaurant, but it has always been incredibly busy when I have been to the takeout.

20 minute wait for two fishcake buttys!! More concerned with virtual and phone customers than actual people in the shop. Overwhelmed waiting area probably due to handsworth chippy being closed but these waiting times think people will go elsewhere in future especially on lunch breaks. Great food just cant wait that long for it

We enjoyed our fish and chips, service was excellent, restaurant lovely and clean with a relaxed atmosphere. My only complaint was the size of the cod, felt it wasn’t a full piece and sliced, it was very thin, what I did taste was nice though.

Absolutely a lovely fish, chip restaurant food was great I had a scampi salad My husband had a large haddock which he said was beautiful the batter light and crispy the menu had a good choice of fish and other dishes and a good choice of drinks , staff very friendly decor in the restaurant very nice 👍 really recommend this place to go and have fish, chips there is a take out joined on to the restaurant as well

Oh my god! Best restaurant in England. Absolutely heaven. I had chips n scampi with curry. And I love the English curry. Best curry I've ever had n nothing tast like other chip shop curry. Definitely worth it.. Definitely going back soon. N will recommend to someone.... Few weeks later we had takeaway n take it home n taste the same. Absolutely heaven..Thank you 👍 👏👏👏

Best plaice to be for fish and chips

The food here is lovely, and the staff accomidating. The biggest down on the location is simply how busy it is in the evening, which is understandable given how nice the food is. Really has a coastal vibe similar to places in towns like Scarborough, Whitby, or Dover.

I've been here several times and it's consistently good but pricey for fish & chips. I've been to the restaurant and used the takeaway service. I wouldn't recommend it due to the price, I could get steak or a carvery cheaper. The staff are nice, friendly and professional. I'm finding more and more of these chains getting silly with pricing, it's to pay the shareholders profits I guess, so like Pizza Hut, KFC et al, that will be my last visit. A regular fish, chips and curry sauce was over £11 from the takeaway and there's only one size curry sauce, mushy peas or gravy and that's small, so bye bye, it's the last time I'll use the place, shame really, but there are other establishments similar and even better, cheaper!

Always a great experience was my "sitting in the restaurant" review. However, we had takeaway last night 2/12/24. Very disappointing. I didn't take any pictures, unfortunately, but the smell of old oil and grease was overwhelming in the car ride home. Then the batter itself on both normal and gluten-free was very dark and saturated, almost soggy. My test is, being able to pick the fish up in the middle and it not breaking because the batter is firm and crisp and holds together, this was not that because it was mushy and fish was over cooked to the extent of wet cotton wool, not the beautiful fresh white translucent fish you'd expect from Whitbys... won't be buying from there again. I will need to find a new gluten-free fish shop.

Nice, very large environment with lots of tables. Fast and cheerful service. Here there were seven of us and everyone took their own. I ate fish and chips, fabulous, accompanied by a good medium draft beer. I don't know how much we spent, because we were guests.

Went on a Saturday and expected to be sat at the table a little while. It was a very short wait for the order to be taken and not so long later for the excellent food to be served.

Service was great, chips and gravy were good. The fish was however underwhelming. The batter was dark and heavier than expected. I’m not convinced it was all that freshly cooked. It was so robust that it actually broke the wooden fork I was given to eat it with, which has never happened anywhere else. I visited because I’d heard great things, but I left a little disappointed. I’d rather wait for a fish cooked fresh than be served something that’s been sat around waiting, and this is what most other chippy’s do for exactly that reason.

Disappointing cod and chips. Fish overcooked and chips were soft and tasteless. There was the sound of what I thought was an industrial drill from upstairs somewhere. Not the best atmosphere for lunch.

Well organised queueing system, outside, under cover. Only one allowed in at a time. Very polite, efficient and timely. Waited outside under another cover for food to be brought out. Fish freshly cooked, with a carton of peas and a good portion of chips. Excellent as usual.

One of The best around, service is fast, food is fresh and hot and never disappoints. The staff are always friendly.

Tried to book yesterday for today and was told it was fine no need to book. Turned up today to be told it was full and had loads of large tables booked and had been for days. Not the only one to find this and feels like we were told to come anyway so we would order from the takeaway which isn’t cool.

Just popped in on our way back home. Used the take away service as the restaurant was very busy and several people were waiting. Good sized portions. Cooked just right for my liking. Would certainly recommend a visit.

Have you started using frozen chips now ? as they are not like the chip shop chips I get in rotherham done with fresh potatoes they was something different about the chips and my friend also remarked on them

Not been for 5 months . Usually love this place . Bought 2 lots of regular cod and chips , 20 pounds 20 pence . Poor value for money. I guess the owners decided to half the size of the cod this time.

Definitely gone downhill we used to come here 2 or 3 times a month not anymore, they must fillet the fish with a razor blade it's that thin.

Absolutely the best tasting fish, cooked to perfection. Only reason I gave it 4 stars was the size of the fish could be bigger and there’s no large cod option. I guess it suits most people’s appetite. Definitely recommend

Fantastic quality service and food.

First time going to this particular place,food was great ,as was the service,the waiting staff couldn't do enough for you and very pleasant. If I had to pick one fault it would be how dark it was on one side of the room,it made me feel quite anxious,we asked if we could sit near the window and it was rectified straight away. I personally prefer Doncaster Whitby's because it's much brighter with windows on both sides but I can't fault the service at the Rotherham one ,it's just the design of the building.

It was worth the 1 hour journey. Michelle was lovely. Excellent service. Food amazing. Parking super and perfect for disabled parking. Easy accessible. We will definitely visit again.
