Very warm welcome for families. We came with our toddler and it was perfect. There was a kids menu, highchairs, good changing facilities, plastic plates and cutlery and a little bookshelf with kids books for entertainment while you wait. They even made sure that the babyccino and beans weren't too hot. Very quick service despite them being quite full and we had a great breakfast each. The real cherry on top was being offered a glass of water when I was breastfeeding my toddler - if you've breastfed you'll know how thirsty it makes you! If you've breastfed, especially into toddlerhood, you'll also know that you can feel a bit anxious not knowing if you'll get any negative comments so that show of support was so appreciated. It's a shame we live so far away otherwise we'd be coming back regularly.

Nipped in today for a quick coffee as I was in the area. The tables were reserved but I was able to have one, knowing that I would have to move on. I had a double espresso and the staff were really friendly.

Twice in a week we tried to go for a drink and twice turned away. As a cafe I don't know how you reserved tables for over a hour and half before they are being used, you surely must be missing out on business

I came here for lunch on Saturday with my mum, husband and 2 year old. We had booked a table and it was ready on our arrival. One of the waitresses brought a highchair over for us. There is plenty of choice on the menu, and it is really reasonably priced. The waitress came over a couple of times to clarify the order for my little boy, which I appreciated, as it meant he got the correct drinks. The food was lovely and cooked to order, but we didn't have to wait too long. My son's food was on a plastic plate and plastic cutlery was provided for him. We didn't have room for a cake, but they looked delicious and were cut in generous portions. There is a toilet and baby change facility. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The tea room is a decent size, but has a nice cosy atmosphere, we will definitely come back again.

Was recommended this lovely tea room in a housing estate in St Helens during a swift visit to the town following a long journey. It is a real gem. Clean, vibrant and friendly service. Good range of teas, coffee, cake and more substantial offerings. Absolutely top draw and very sensibly priced. Can’t praise it enough. Thoroughly

Been here half a dozen times. Food as good as ever, and clean and fresh. After half an hour on Sat 30/10, in a half full cafe we had to ask to be served, and order a second coffee. Another half and hour and we were about to walk out after completing 2nd coffee, when one omelette and one full English was served to the table. 3 tables were served and left in this time having arrived after us. No asking how we were, whether the food was ok or apologising for the time it took. The older lady and young girl were not the regular servers, and the lady preparing the food also looked like a stand in. Their observation skills were nil, and their communication with the chef non existent. They didn’t seem to care, or maybe had a lack of training. I won’t judge it permanently on this, but if repeated would swerve this place in future.

Seriously the worst “welcome “ to a Tea Shop I have ever experienced. As a previous review stated....A smile costs nothing!! We experienced a dismissive and sullen attitude from the lady who “served” us. It’s the first time I’ve been here in over 2 years after the last experience put me off! I won’t be coming again

Have visited here on several occaisions and found the service acceptable but sometimes the visit spoilt by the attitude of the staff . Today was worse than before . A smile costs nothing . The coffee is weak and of a poor standard but the cakes are good. The place is inviting to look at but totally spoiled by the attitude of one of the serving staff. Being made to feel unwelcome will mean my family will not be returning.

6 of us went for a bit of lunch. We felt that 55 minutes was excessive for egg on toast, 2 x bacon on toast, 3 x toasties. Food when it eventually arrives is okay. Problem is not enough staff. Even though many people are only having drinks 3 staff can't cope.1 in kitchen trying to cook, load dishwasher and bring food to tables is a recipe for disaster1 trying to take orders, dish out drinks and clear and clean tables. The other person (the owner?) not doing much at all.Only go here if you've got time to waste.

I've been here a couple of times now usually just have coffee and toast with the little one. He loves the little play area, probably stay in there all day playing shop with other children. I decided to have poached eggs as was hungry. I would even say they were the nicest poached eggs I've ever had. I think some people expect 5star service wherever they go these days and can be quite rude when they don't get it. Nothing wrong with the service. Coffee could do with being a bit stronger would have Been 5 otherwise I'm a bit of a coffee snob sorry.

Mushrooms tasted of bleach. Tomato looked like it was two weeks out of date. And cost!!! £9 yes £9 for a breakfast and a coffee. The view of the local spar didn’t make up for the cost.

This place has so much potential, I get the concept with particular reference to the children's play area and the target market is fairly clear. I attended here on a Saturday morning with a friend as I had heard about the place and wanted to try it out. I thought initially that the pricing was a bit off, especially with the competition in the area, notably on Dentons Green Lane, which is priced much cheaper. Ok, I guess the big breakfast is similarly priced but in competitors restaurant you are served with a pot of tea or cup of instant coffee within the price for the breakfast. So adding an additional cost to buy a pot of tea was a tad annoying, but then again I'm pulling my face over a couple of pounds which really is a drop in the ocean. This may be something Whistles might want to look into once they are settled in as i'm sure the overheads starting off initially may be high. Then we come to service, which again I didn't take to. By the time the food was served the pot of tea was gone. Not great. The cafe itself was relatively quiet too, and there were two serving staff on, if this is early days in the catering business then just keep going and it will soon come to you. I thought the food was actually ok, the beans came nicely presented, hash brown was good, so too was the egg and meat. Having the offering of an either/or option could help bring the price down of the food instead of providing everything, and then maybe add the additional charge to have both products on the either/or range. But if that is not the direction that Whistles's is going then who am I to comment. I'm trying not to be critical here, I'm trying to provide a steer to a cafe that could thrive, particularly in the area that they are in and the clientele that they will attract. I will return again later on this year to see whether or not things have changed and I really hope they have. I wish you the vest best of luck, you're going in the right direction.

We go here to Whistles quite a lot and have always had very tasty food and a good cup of coffee. We sometimes take our granddaughter who loves playing in the little kitchen. A very nice little place that serves fresh cooked food.

We visit whistles at least twice a week. I have two young children, and they love the little kitchen to play in. The menu is great for both adults and children. It's nice to go somewhere with young children, feel comfortable and at ease with them, knowing they can play and you can enjoy a coffee..It's also very clean, and well looked after. No matter what time of day you visit, your always made to feel very welcome, and well looked after. Couldn't recommend enough.

I have visited this cafe with my two children many times. Lovely place to meet up with friends. The food is always lovely and the staff are always extremely friendly and polite. The little play area for the children is wonderful and keeps them occupied. They do close the playroom an hour before closing to clean it all down and antibac the bits and bobs which personally I think is a fantastic idea and would rather it be closed an hour early and kept spotless.

I visited Whistles with my baby regularly when it opened as I live in the area. A few months back I went in with my toddler only to be reminded that they closed in half an hour and he could not play in the kitchen as they had “tidied” it! My son was screaming, he couldn’t understand why he couldn’t play with the toys in the kitchen at Whistles, the so called “play café” which was empty and I had to leave my coffee and didn’t return for a good few months. On returning today with a friend and our 2 toddlers, AN HOUR before it closed, I was greeted at the door by a member of staff before I had even sat down with “the play kitchen is closed as we close in 1 hour, you do know that don’t you”? I replied “no I didn’t” in utter disbelief at how I had been addressed. There were a couple more toddlers inside who also wanted to play in the kitchen (which was closed before 3pm when Whistles tea room shuts at 4.). Unfortunately the staff’s enthusiasm to finish bang on the dot at 4pm is more important than welcoming families to this tea room. We got the boys a juice and biscuit and left without our planned coffees and cakes. This is the 2nd and last time I have been made to feel unwelcome in there and I will never return. I will obviously not recommend to any of my friends and can see why the place is becoming more empty. This is the very first poor review of a restaurant/ café/ hotel I have ever written and have not done so lightly.

I visited here yesterday with a friend who is emigrating. It is a testament to this coffee shop that he chose here as a parting meet. Although this place is tucked away in a row of suburban shops you will whistle when you take a sharp intake of breath at the welcome, ambience and the fare on offer from a full English breakfast to simply coffee and cakes. They even serve decaffeinated drinks. The only issue that prevents me from giving it an excellent rating is that I wish there were a few more comfy seats. Having said that, this coffee shop is wheelchair friendly and is suitable for all generations with supervised toddlers being especially welcome. Great for parents and young kids.

My husband & I visited here looking forward to a slap up breakfast, wow, it didn't disappoint. Unfortunately on the day we called in, the café seemed to be experiencing numerous problems ie staffing, non deliveries, breakdown of equipment etc. This did not bode well. However, the only server/waitress was very apologetic and honest with us about the impending wait. So, we waited patiently......After 30 minutes our coffee arrived (yippee!) and shortly after our 2 x large full English breakfasts were delivered. Oh wow, what a gorgeous plate full of food. I didn't need anything for the rest of the day until I made the evening meal around 6.30 pm. The lovely waitress also refreshed our 2 coffees by way of compensation for the long wait which I thought was a very nice touch. Go and treat yourself, pig out, it's worth it. ENJOY.P.S. I would just like to add a note that we called in for coffee and a cake earlier in the week and whilst the cake looked amazing, it was bland and boring. Sorry about that!

I visited here with my wife and friends from Wolverhampton in March 2017. This traditional tea room is well laid out and provides not just excellent service but a fine range of light bites and drinks that you might expect of a café that mixes both tradition and a modern twist. It is situated rather oddly in a row of shops on a 1950s housing estate in Eccleston, St Helens but nevertheless it attracts both local residents and others who travel some distance to experience that laidback atmosphere here. It would be quite easy just to while away the hours and watch the world go by.

I placed an order on just eat at 2.30pm, so not even a busy time, it took them 5 minutes to respond to my order and they declined it and still took the money from my bank! I phoned them up to ask why my order had been cancelled, a very rude male memeber of staff answered and said because they were “too busy”, I wouldn’t have minded waiting a little while for this, they had my number could they have not rang and asked? I said “seriously you cancelled because your busy?” Like what food establishment isn’t busy? And he very sarcastically replied “ yeah seriously” what kind of staff does that!? Not an apology or anything, very rude and disrespectful to their customers, they need to employ people who can actually manage to do their job, it’s pasties that go in the oven not rocket science, not exactly a hard task is it, never have any problems with the other pound bakery’s so just avoid this one! Absolutely appalling…..
