Everyone needs a drink after 90 minutes ambling along on a steam train. This is a small cafe at the journey's end . It's ideal for a quick pasty and a hot chocolate before journeying home .It even comes in a special railway carton

Not impressed .... decided to go for a pasty 🤮🤮 I didn't eat it , it was awful , a meat ( I think paste ) with carrot and peas ! , scone with cream tea was mouldy and then also when I opened the tub of clotted cream so was that ! And out of date also .. I was asked to taste another out of date tub by the manager because she said it maybe OK lol which I refused , sandwich I had was dry and tasteless ....they did give me £3 back but the whole experience after a lovely steam train ride was awful

Stopped here for lunch on a long journey. Warm welcome from the ladies here. Food was good. Prices reasonable. All very clean. Well worth a detour.

Cafe associated with heritage railway. I struggled to find info beforehand about post Covid hours, but they were open October 2021 when trains running. Very basic fare, but good for coffee and sandwich before train ride.

Quaint, run by volunteers and basic wholesome refreshments. Comfy enough, reasonably priced and welcome especially when about to depart on the Quantock Belle.

On entering the cafe receiving a very cheery greeting which makes you feel welcome by Val and Jane who were the two lady volunteers giving service with a smile in the cafe on the day. The coffee and king sized sausage roll tasted really good with a steam train arriving or departing from the station. It takes you back in time. Thank you Val and Jane for your friendliness and service.

Congratulations WSRA for the outstanding organisation of the Scotsmans visit and enabling those travelling on the Scotsman to do so in a calm and relaxed no rush manner. It made the day.The cup of coffee in the whistle Stop Cafe prior to the trip was excellent.

Basic, but nothing special. Has the potential to be very good with some effort and staff training. Tea could be stronger.

This cafe is not run by the railway itself. It is run by a charity called the West Somerset Railway Association. It seems clean and well run. However prices are higher than those at the Turntable Cafe at Minehead Station that is run by the railway. For example a tub of the excellent local Styles ice cream costs £2.00 here but only £1.70 at the other end of the line and there is more variety at Minehead. Wait till you get to Minehead is my advice. The hard sell from the cafe is apparent as soon as a train arrives as Bishops Lydeard when the PA system urges alighting passengers to patronise the cafe. This is overdone as no such announcements greet passengers elsewhere on the railway. WSRA management please note!

A perfect way to start your visit to the West Somerset Railway is to enjoy a refreshment at the Whistle-Stop café at the Bishops Lydeard Station (the southern terminus). Located on platform 2 adjacent to the Signal Box, the café sells hot and cold snacks, sandwiches, freshly-baked pastries, soft drinks and sweet treats. The ladies at the counter are super-efficient and really welcoming and friendly! There’s nothing nicer if you’re waiting on a train to get out of the cold and to enjoy a hot beverage inside the café! You actually need to go through the Station Shop’s main door in order to access the café on the left of the entrance. We enjoyed a freshly baked pasty and sausage roll here which were divine! Make this a start or ending point to your WSR visit and you won’t be disappointed!

Really great pub. Delicious Sunday lunch and coffee. Staff extremely friendly. I would advise that you phone the pub directly to book. Don't use online service!!!
