Fabulous place for Sunday lunch for a group of 7 The food was hot, tastey and plenty of it and not too highly priced The staff were very welcoming, helpful and attentive. Would have no hesitation in recommending the Wheatsheaf Hotel in EVERY aspect Many thanks to Sandy Carol and staff WE WILL RETURN!! We DID return today 22 Sept 24 As fab as ever. Fab place fab food, service and staff You don't know what you are missing. Thank you to Faye, Carol and the very helpful young man!!

Basic pub but with cheerful , helpful staff and somewhat deaf landlady, a bit like myself, so all was well at the Inn. Food in plentiful quantities using fresh ingredients and cooked to a nicety. You couldn't do better, pricing is incredibly good and you won't be saying "Ow Much" and leaving dissatisfied, a "must do this again jobby" in our opinion ( Wife's permission granted ) 👍👍👍

We stopped overnight in a motorhome, people were friendly, only wanted us to have a drink, we had two carveries, two pints and a G & T, £35, bargain. Car park was flat and quiet. Would recommend and definitely visit again.

Carvery meal including pudding for £10 a head. Choice of pork, turkey and beef with 3 veg, roast and mashed potato. Food was delicious and plentiful portions. Well recommended.

Superb very well cooked and presented, everything really hot and tasty, the carvery and pudding were absolutely delicious, all for the amount of £10 ,,per person. The staff are so pleasant and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. One word, excellent.

Food was terrible and all drinks were flat. Felt uncomfortable to be in the company of a racist landlady, even checked her Facebook after and I saw various hate speech’s shared including both racism, religious hate. Would not be visiting here unless you are also as thick as she is. God only knows what’s said in the confidence of privacy if this is what’s shared publicly.

Chuffing hell this place is soooo good. The food is amazing and lovely people. I'm defo coming back here. They also do overnight stopping for campervans and just get a drink at the bar. Spot on 👌

Nice food proper chips home made

We dropped in on Wednesday and parked up on large level carpark. We were welcome to stay in our motorhome overnight. The menu for the evening was carvery and desert. My wife had vegetarian option with vegetables and vegetarian gravy. My meat was very good and we both throughly enjoyed our meals. The freindly service was excellent in a pleasant old style public house.

We arrived very late to expect sunday dinner but they accommodated us with a warm welcome and a very delicious sunday dinner with fresh vegetables and yorkshire pud !Happily took our scottish notes ,will definitely return

Superb Sunday lunch (carvery!) Meat just melted in the mouth, plenty of veg too, everything cooked beautifully, good beer too, (I wasn't driving for a change!) Sunday carvery at the time (may 2023) £14 Wednesday carvery £10 I believe they serve Sunday lunch from 14.00 (2pm) website says closed untill 2pm but pub is open before, outdoor seats to front if sunny! And I think it may have a garden with seating to the side and the rail station is at the side! We will sure go again!

Wonderful food at a great price

Good old fashioned pub with dinning area. Great vibe very welcoming even the punters look happy lol. Staff are the best both behind the bar and serving nothing is too much trouble fantastic down to earth landlady. Me and my wife went for Sunday dinner after seeing it on facebook. Quality of the meat was first class I chose lamb my wife had chicken and gammon (gammon was particularly delicious) mountains of veg and gravy all served from a wheel barrow lol the portions well generous is an understatement. Worth the money all day and all night. They only take cash which might catch some out. Wednesday evening is a carvery with free pudding but might have to take that home lol.

What a great stay. Landlady and barmaids were really nice and couldn’t do enough. Hotel - Never slept in the hotel but I know it’s often booked out. Once you’ve been you can appreciate why - cheap and very cheerful. Motorhomes and camper vans - Large level car park with plenty of room for 8 MHs / vans. Landlady doesn’t charge as long as you call ahead and / or pop in for a drink. Pub - It’s a traditional JohnSmiths pub with big fire, big TV showing whatever the majority want, pool table (free), darts and real country old-pub feel about it. Landlady and barmaid were lovely to chat to and nothing was too much for them. They made us very welcome as did the locals. Lovely seats out front in the sun. Nice beer garden to the side and a families garden out the back with climbing frame, slide, swings and picnic tables. Kids loved it and asked to come back. Food - When I read home cooked food, I think ‘yeah right!’ But this really is ‘home cooked’. 2 carnivores and 2 vegans are not easy to cater for. Before too long a hand written menu specifically designed for veggies and vegans came out of the kitchen. It took a while to arrive but when it did I could appreciate why - It was cooked from scratch. (See pictures) the portions were huge with everything steaming and freshly cooked. Sausage and mash - The 5 Vegan sausages were like real sausages, the mash mountain it came with was soft and light. The cauliflower and carrots were fresh with sweet frozen peas. Gravy ship was delish too. Leek Lattice was really tasty with big fat real hand chipped chips. Same veg and gravy. Onions rings were made there and then in front of us with real beer from the beer tap in they and tasted amazing. Kids sausage and mash. Same as adult but with 3 real sausages a desert and drink for £5! Kids chicken strips with mash and veg. 4 massive chicken pieces with the same delicious veg, a desert and drink for £5! Kids deserts - They had a huge choice. Two big pieces of chocolate fudge cake with 2 big scoops of ice cream for one, and 4 big scoops of ice cream for the other. Both served with cherry drinks. You could have rolled us out of the place we were that full. Kids had so much fun they had to be called in because they were playing. Barmaid gave the kids a hot chocolate drink before they left and a small bar of chocolate. They are so friendly and we can’t fault the place at all. Would I recommend - YES Would I return - we are planning stay over again next month when we travel past.

We had our first company reunion here some time ago and our second just last week. Carol is the perfect host and laid on some superb food for us. A great time had by all.

Desperate for a sunday lunch at short notice when visiting family. Fitted us in no problem. Food was lovely, typical sunday roast. Staff very friendly, locals friendly, treats for our dog given. Will definitely recommend if you are stuck for somewhere to go.

This is an old fashion pub serving home cooked food which is extremely tasty, went for Father's day dinner today and throughly enjoyed it. Food came out piping hot which is unusual in pubs of today. The staff where very pleasant and organised and to top it off, each dad came away with a little gift of chocolate which was nice. Definately recommend and will certainly be going back for more

Very kind of the Owners to allow trucks to use their car park area to tip off during the Railway works. Many people just Kick off and refuse access to HGVs. Thank you for being so helpful despite being closed due to Covid; it Means a lot 👍🏼👍🏼

Just been 3 days ago. My cousin has always recommended this place and I have to say I was so impressed!! The food was lovely and the staff were so friendly. It is a lovely place to just go relax and have a drink and some food. It has that nice country feel and outside for when the sun is out. There was a big Marquee outside that day for an event/party for 150 people. So whether you are a small group just wanting a bite to eat, sunday lunch or looking to do a big event definitely check this place out!! Or a quick pint and a chat with locals you would feel comfortable just popping in.

Faultless Sunday lunch spot ,waitresses could not do enough, when we had finished they brought out a plate with smarties and chocolate bars after eights for my grandchildren to take home ,also huge amount of food highly recommend Ann

What a great little pub. Was looking for somewhere dog friendly locally and came across this place. We had a fabulous Sunday roast which stuffed us all... They even gave us meat to take for the dog. Super friendly bar staff, would definitely return...... In fact we are coming back Tuesday for steak night lol.
