Wetherspoons: Penderel's Oak in Camden

I have been visiting Penderil’s Oak with friends and family for many years. Always a good option for a good and reasonably priced meal and drinks. My wife and I did the same last Sunday afternoon after a 3 hour walk. We had a lovely meal, relaxed too well and forgot her new hat and sunglasses as we left. We returned the following day with a faint hope that the items had been found and handed in? Lo and Behold. When I asked the really pleasant, helpful, blonde lady behind the bar, (sorry should have asked your name), she said the items were there, located them and returned them to a very thankful couple! This sums up the pub to me - good honest food and drink, good honest people. Perfect!

Over for the weekend and spent some time in the bar. The establishment was spotless and the staff really friendly. Jan the bar manger was really nice and we had a great chat with her. Thank your whole team they really are a credit to you.

Nice big Wetherspoons close to Holborn tube. Clean and tidy. It wasn't that busy on a Sunday but at times there was only one person behind the bar. I resorted to ordering on the app which worked great. Beer was £5.45 and the food was good. Has a little patio area at the back that was being used by a couple of smokers.

Perfect meal in perfect place. ☺️ The service was very nice. Beautiful environment, quiet place next to a busy street. great food and great beer.

This is one of our favourite Wetherspoons to use in London when we need feeding or alcohol! It's just slightly off the tourist beaten track so you can almost always get a table and at busy times they also open the downstairs cellar bar for more space. It's always clean and the staff are friendly and service always seems very quick for how busy it can be!

This has to be one of the nicest spoons we have been to. Spotlessly clean throughout. Even fresh daffodils on the table. Toilets were spotlessly clean, too. Friendly staff. Split over two floors. It was great.

Must be one of the best value eateries in Central London. Meals, which are good value to start with, include drinks for very little extra.

Top rate in every way. We were doing The Snowman Trail and stopped here for a lovely lunch. The pub is run to perfection

Food and drink good quality for the price, but the pub was chronically under staffed and needs more staff for a higher rating. Nearly half the tills were closed due to lack of staff, only one bar of two open due to lack of staff and the same staff who were manning the manning the open tills at the one remaining bar were also having to take dirty plates and cutlery from tables to the kitchen, and plates with food on and clean cutlery from kitchen to customers. This was a Saturday in December, in a part of London that doesn't get busy on a weekend, so dread to think what the situation may have been if this had been a pub in a busier part of London. There are better Wetherspoons and better run pubs elsewhere in London.

Once again had a lovely steak perfectly cooked. Staff were pleasant and food was quick. Nice staff

Terrible service. 4 of us eating and all the orders came out incorrect. Our vegetarian was given a meat breakfast. Drinks were missed off and when we asked, the older lady came and argued with us over our table while we were trying to eat saying we had taken it. Count the glasses in front of us!!! Awful attitude and terrible service. I get that Wetherspoons is cheap but this is cheap and nasty. Avoid!

Walking around London I came across this beautiful establishment. I had a great chopp, ate a great seasoned dish (well seasoned) with curry. Fair price and professional service.

A group of 20 of us came here, we thought they would be kind as we brought plenty of business and were buying drinks but instead the worker decided to be rude instead. She never gave 4 of us our drinks and when i told them the PURPLE haired person (don’t want to assume its gender) said it is my fault i didn’t grab the drink even though it passed the drinks far away from half of our group even though i didn’t move after i paid. Never got drink, or understood my concern. Poor thing probably paying for its transplant still. Wouldn’t recommend

Tim you really have this right-! My wife and I had a wonderful lunch, a curry that the local Indian would have been proud of, and roast chicken that my wife described as ‘absolutely great’ 2 ‘large’ glasses of wine, all in,£26! I’m loving Wetherspoons, great food, great prices and a fun place to be ! All power to you Tim!

We stopped here for lunch and the fish and chips was excellent. Good value drinks as always and the staff in particular Cameron were absolutely brilliant. What lovely people. Would go here again today if I could.

All food cold, went back twice and still wasn't right, egg not cooked. We weren't the only table that sent back with their food being cold. We were also kept waiting a long time for the food to come out. Something needs sorting with the kitchen, definitely not running well. Will not use again

I want to start off by saying this a lovely pub down to the aesthetic to the architecture. I noticed there were only one person on the bar, a young black woman called Jess. She served me and 10 other ppl while also doing online orders, I really appreciated her attention to the detail of all our drinks and her ability to show kindness and a bright smile after serving each. Compliments to the chef for the tasty traditional brekky big thankyou to her for making our breakfast trip at Wetherspoons a lot more joyful. Will definitely be back again.

I am very familiar with going into random 'spoons for a mixed grill when I am out and about. This one was at the more disappointing end of such things though. I felt unsafe - on a Friday lunchtime. There were bag theft warnings on the tables. The lavatories were down stairs into a room full of doors like something out of a 1980s adventure game. The pattern on the plates was very loud. There was a black metal oak leaf theme to the decor that was deathly. The bookshelves looked unwelcoming with all those wooden sleepers.

I was at a company event in the pre-booked, basement bar. This should have been a thoroughly enjoyable event. However, it was marred by the lack of ale and the attitude of one member of the bar staff. If possible I will head to a Wetherspoons pub. I am a real ale drinker and they usually have a good selection of ales at decent prices. In London this is especially the case, which means my first choice (and recommendation to others) is the nearest Wetherspoons. My company office is near Chancery tube station and we usually go to the Knights Templar, another Wetherspoons, but for this event we chose the Penderel's Oak. Sadly they had none of the nusual ales on tap and I had to make do with some of the newer beers, not my favourite so a little disappointing. The main probelm however was the attitude of a member of the bar staff calling himself Raj. I noticed him being quite rude and dismissive to colleagues trying to get served. At this time the bar was not very busy. Later on more people came down to the bar, people not part of our party, and it got quite crowded. A member of bar staff trying to get through behind me pushed my neighbour. I turned back to bar and siad to no one in particular that this was rude, Raj took it on himself to question my statement in a rather rude manner. My point was that his colleague had to push through becuase of 'all these other f**kers' in the bar. Raj immediately went into 'don't swear me', 'I'll have you thown out' mode. Puzzling as I had not sworn AT him, I had merely used a swear word. He then went on a rant at me and I asked him to call the manager. He refused but another member of the bar staff did and eventually a manager arrived, came up to me, introduced himself and shook my hand immediately bringing some sanity to the situation. Raj smirked to himself and wandered off pretending to make himslef busy, whilst listening. Another staff member joined, a bigger man, grey shirt, unshaven dark hair and stood leaning on the beer taps. The first manager, a very impressive black guy, maintained his attentive and polite demeaner as I explained why I was now quite upset. The manager in grey (I had to ask who he was becuase he did not introduce himself) told me that swearing was illegal and I would be arrested if I said those words in the street. I found this quite amazing, none of them seemed to understand S5 of the 1986 Public Order Act as I tried to explain that I did not swear AT anyone and was not abusive to Raj. I made the point that we had booked the space and spent a lot of money through the evening and I did expect some common courtesy from staff. The man in grey started to argue about us not booking the whole space but this was really a diversion. The balck manager was very good, calm and collected and made me feel listened to and said he would investigate this with the staff member involved. the other manager had wandered off by now. the black guy (I'm sorry I have forgotten his name) apologised and I went away heard, if not happy. I will not recommned this pub to anyone in the near future. By comparison, the Knights Templer, which is always busier than Penderel's, has well trained, friendly staff whomdo a great job.

Literally came across trying to take plates away before we had finished our Pizzas then at 1204 said we had ten minutes to drink up and leave no last orders called disgusting

A quick lunch but the kitchen should spend a little more time on presentation and portion sizes. The burgers looked drab and one plate had noticeably more chips than the other. Used to be able to rely on a Wetherspoons burger but this was not up to standard.

A run of the mill pub, with much better options elsewhere. Not surprised it is scheduled for closure as it doesn't really add much to what is already in the area. Staff were quite slow, one of the managers had a bit of an attitude on him, to be expected in London though where customer service is always awful. Beer was fine if expensive but it's central London so to be expected.

I had the standard breakfast. It was quite tasty, but it was also quite cold. Another culinary disappointment. I’ve been in London for 3 days and every meal or drink I’ve had out, with the exception of one, has been a disappointment. They have one job, serve you a drink, or a snack, or a meal. Then why do they keep getting it wrong?! I’ve been short changed on coffee at every Pret I’ve been to. Short changed on quantity of coffee in the cup and the temperature of that coffee, after I specifically ordered an “extra hot” one! Now we have this place. A nice breakfast ruined by the fact that it hadn’t been near any heat prior to getting to me. I love London, but the culinary offerings here are sub standard. As for the one exception I spoke of, that would be The Morpeth Arms opposite the MI6 building. Great food, great drink, great staff and a lovely atmosphere! That’s it. Rant over. I’m going home tomorrow. It’s been a great visit, severely let down by those people that have one simple job that they cannot get right!

It was a very nice evening. Pub was clean and tidy, food was cheap and the portions were big. We stayed from 6pm until 10pm and had a grand time. I love the decor, will come back again.

Massive Wetherspoons pub in the heart of Holborn. Gets very busy at lunchtimes and after about 5.30, so we had no problem finding a seat and eating at about 4pm on a Friday last week. Good food, great choice of beers.

I enjoy visiting Wetherspoon pubs. Unfortunately my wife has a rapeseed oil allergy and is unable to eat at this chain where this is the main oil used in the cooking, so I usually visit at lunchtimes to meet friends. Penderel's is a particularly pleasant pub, with a nice atmosphere and very clean. Service was friendly and efficient and the meals were decent and tasty. It is hard to beat Wetherspoons when it comes to value - lunch for 2 including drinks came to less than £17.00. Consistently good.

Genuinely the nicest banana I've had in a long time. The peas were a bit dry, but the banana more than made up for it. Gr8 banan.

Often have early meetings in the Holborn area, so I try to arrive early enough to partake of a 'spoons breakfast.I have no compunctions about being seen coming out of a pub at 08:45 in the morning!. This is a large place, lots of seating and also a downstairs bar area with more seating. It can get very busy so consider this when arranging to visit. Offers all the usual menu options you would expect from a Wetherspoons pub. Food is good, service is good, (bearing in mind that at other times it can get very busy) I've only ever been there on weekday mornings between 8:00-8:45 and evenings after 6pm, I don't know what it is like during the day or at lunchtime.

Quería un lugar agradable, un servicio rápido y una buena relación calidad-precio: Wethys cumplió perfectamente con los requisitos, como siempre. Dama irlandesa que nos atendió, muy amable, disfruté el chat. La comida llegó rápidamente, sencilla pero buena, bebidas a buen precio especialmente para Londres. Un entorno agradable, práctico para el metro, lo visitará de nuevo. Pedido de la manera antigua, verbalmente!

Penderel's was recommended to us, it was extremely busy and we were lucky to get a table. The unusual thing about it is that you have to signup on their app to place an order. Not long to wait for the food and our meals were good, nothing extraordinary.

The Penderel's Oak is conveniently located 5 mins walk from both Chancery Lane and Holborn Stations. With plenty of seating and a great ambiance it has a good selection of real ales. Food is the standard Weatherspoon fare, basic but ok and reasonably priced; you get what you pay for.

On our Sunday late morning walk we found very few places open to have a snack. Thank goodness for Wetherspoons. Penderel's Oak was welcoming with plenty of tables available. The food is what you expect - good quality and cheap.

Fair prices and very good breakfast. You can refill your coffee free. The staff that are working here are really nice to you.

We visited the pub July 16th. Had fish and chips for four. very good and tasty. Excellent fillets, crispy fries. Only "problem" is that children are not allowed after 1900, had to come back the next day, Very well worth a visit..

Nothing to complain about here. Whenever we have called in for a meal we have enjoyed the whole experience. There's a good atmosphere and the staff are very pleasant and we've always received a check to see all has been okay. Hope you will agree.

We ate here a couple of years ago and were very satisfied. Last week we were nearby again and were more than satisfied. No complaints whatsoever. It's one of the most pleasant Wetherspoons in the Central London area. Service was excellent, the food was fine and the atmosphere was just what a good pub's should be. Will call again whenever it's convenient.

This restaurant/pub had a good atmosphere with many people sitting around talking and yet not being full to the rafters at 6pm. The food was basic but well priced, quickly served which was important to us and of reasonable quality, especially for the price. The staff were friendly and polite and tables cleared quickly.

Fui al bar a la orden esperando una larga espera, fue servido en unos minutos, felicitaciones al personal allí. La comida llegó dentro de 10 minutos, el bistec Gammon, que no me puedo quejar por el precio, menos de 10 por una comida y una pinta en el área del West End es una ganga. Un pequeño problema, si tiene objetos de valor con usted, por ejemplo, una bolsa para computadora portátil, y está comiendo solo, no hay un lugar seguro para dejar la bolsa.

Popped in for a late lunch just before it started to get busy. Service was quick enough but the quality of the 8oz steak on a Tuesday Steak Night was disappointing. Why so few chips??? I left thinking that this was not good value for money.

This pub is run by Wetherspoon's, and surprisingly is one of the few restaurants we found open on a Sunday afternoon in this part of London. The pub has a cosy, traditional atmosphere with a dark wood interior. The menu had a good selection and the food was served promptly. You have to order at the bar, but waiting staff were helpful, courteous and unobtrusive. The food tasted good - I ordered vegetable Lasagne with side salad, which they had the sense to bring with the dressing in a separate pot, so that you could add as much or as little as you prefer. A glass of wine was also included in the price of the meal, which was great, very good value for central London. The tables are spaced so that you can have a private conversation and the loos downstairs are deluxe - newly refurbished, with gilt mirrors etc. All in all, a really good experience, esp. considering this is a chain. I have usually had similarly good experiences in Wetherspoon's restaurants.

This is one of the largest wetherspoons i have ever visited and busy as a week before xmas .unlike a lot of there outlets this one seemed a little soulless not helped by staff who treated everyone like they were doing them a favour by serving them.the prices mean they are going to be busy but a smile costs nothing.

Not had a bad one yet, and this was no exception. Quiet on a Sunday morning so lots of seating and competent staff behind the bar to take our order. Food delivered without issue and as tasty as ever. No queues at the tea station for once so 5 stars all round.

Twenty of us arranged to meet here for a special reunion. 5 of the party, including an under 18, having travelled from Greece. They were happy to take the money for meals and drinks then we were told that as the junior wasn’t 18 we had to leave by 7pm! We explained that we were waiting for more friends and some had just ordered food but the jobsworth manager said we couldn’t stay. There were no visible signs informing us that under 18’s couldn’t stay after 7pm and the staff had seen us all arrive and no age limit was mentioned. The website states”child friendly”....it certainly is not. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone and will not be visiting again. We moved on to a much nicer pub just down the road and were made very welcome and enjoyed the rest of our evening there. Shame on you Wetherspoons!

Walking up Holborn to reflect on a business meeting we happened upon Penderels Oak around 11:30, We managed to get a private booth which was excellent, and the small breakfast was perfectly cooked Definitely on my revisit list!

We chose this pub for our works' gathering as we had not been there for a number of years. Sadly, we will not be returning as the staff were very rude to us! Next time we will choose a nicer pub.

Only stopped here for a drink with friends but happy to come back. Packed Friday evening but still served without too long a wait. Good atmosphere and plenty of room top and in the cellar.

Walking back from the south bank, I stopped in at this Wetherspoon's. It was getting on a bit and I was lucky to get a table - shared with a visiting artist from the US who was exhibiting nearby. Simple fare - a baked tattie with tuna and beans and a nice pint which quenched my thirst after the walk. A nice experience.

The pub is situated almost opposite the Probate Registry and courts so it was a welcome relief to be able to fall in here after swearing oaths, filling in forms etc. Very fast service with very pleasant staff who checked everything was to our liking. Bravo, Penderel's Oak. Who was Penderel btw?

Stay away from the beef burger. Not sure what this indescribable, inedible, tasteless, tough-as-old-boot-leather imitation of a slab of beef is.

Convenient to my hotel so used this pub as a meeting point. Big open spaces, good range of beer. Particularly liked a couple of different Porters. Easy going half hour before we set off for lunch. Only gripe, all those stairs down to subterranean lavatories.

This is the nicest Wetherspoons I have ever eaten in. The pub was very busy as expected but the staff were polite and served us quite quickly. I met with 3 old friends and we all ordered different meals and drinks. The food was well presented and portion sizes were good. I had a chicken salad which I enjoyed. This pub also serves smaller portion sizes of some dinners for those that can't eat a big meal.

We went to this very nice pub, service was good . The bar is big with lots tables. We ordered pizza as I have not seen this on the menu ‘s of other Wetherspoon pubs.... Both pizzas were good 😀 Thanx

They've refurbished this pub to a good standard, it has a nice relaxing atmosphere and you have your usual very reasonable Wetherspoons prices in Central London.

Popped in for an all day breakfast in between meetings in town. Used the app which is brilliant, and the Large Breakfast is better than you think. Lovely pub that caters for everyone - recommended.

It is a spacious restaurant which is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner with friends. Very convenient location, 5-minute walk from Holborn station. Good variety on menu and good quailty food reasonably priced. You just order at the bar counter and the waiter will deliver to your table in a timely manner. Very efficient. So, we had been there many times for breakfast and dinner during our stay.

I go here very regularly, not only because of its great location, but because it's less crowded than other pubs and Spoons chains in Central London. It's spread over two floors, with upstairs (the ground floor) being quieter as they don't have loud speakers here, unlike the downstairs area. Penderel's Oak are also good with table reservations. You just have to phone them up to reserve.

Have visited here a few times while at in London. I do not recognise the poor reviews. It is clean. It is efficient. It is friendly. It is decent food. As good as you like!

Avoid at all cost. Fourth time and food was as bad as last visits. Certainly will not eat here again ever

I do love a Wetherspoons! Ordered a curry each, went large, added an alcoholic drink each, and still didn't come to a tenna each!
