Wetherspoon in Uttlesford

Ugh this is just okay, been to better spoons, this one is the smallest by far and worst. The food was okay it's the same across all spoons nothing to write home about but good if you are peckish. The pint was fine and the atmosphere was just OK. Toilets were good but not great either a lack of stalls in the male ones. Enjoyed a nice late chat with my mate and then moved on. Staff were absent at best and only saw 2 a waitress and a bar man. I get very bored of constant ID checks even though I clearly look over the legal age, but it is what it is I guess. The staff seemed somewhat miserable and didn't like my joke at the bar, it was ignored. Will only come here if my friends beg me enough.

Great place, breakfast was nicely cooked and service excellent. Friendly staff as new to the area.

Just been to the temeraire in saffron Walden would just like to say really lovely staff especially Mya and Marie couldn't be more helpful , keep up the good work lol.

Typical Wetherspoons which can get very busy at which point food service slows down.

Firstly it's a spoons, you get what you pay for and the food is usually decent. I left a negative review post covid, where I thought the standards had slipped. Things have improved on that side. Secondly very rude woman, working usually Sunday mornings with a terrible attitude! Think she's a team leader? Absolute zero customer service skills on her part. Had the misfortune of being served by her on a few occasions, and on every occasion she's very blunt and abrasive to me. I messed up my order and she bit my head off! Bearing in mind this took no longer than 30 seconds to amend! If you don't like dealing with the public, you're in the wrong job! Yet alone a shift leader!! As I said, it wasn't the first time of being left feeling annoyed by her attitude! Yes it's a spoons and I'm not expecting the Ritz! But being spoken to like an idiot by someone who's supposed to be in a senior position isn't a good look.

Good food with with good service & lovely surroundings

I just want to put a shout out to Caris (I think that her name). I was so impressed by how she, not only spent time training someone but handled all the orders and was amazingly helpful. I would so happily have her on my team 😊

It's your basic Wetherspoons, good value food, good portion, only downside was it was lukewarm when it arrived.

Perfect local. Staff are super friendly, and service is always 10/10. Loving all the changes that have been done to make the pub feel more welcoming. Such a good atmosphere anytime I go! :)

Glad to see Jan is making progress with our local spoons he makes the time to speak to people and makes every effort to ensure you have a good pint and meal and enjoy your visit at the Temeraire. Things have deffinately improved under his leadership. I would like to see a few stronger darker ales and perhaps less golden ales, but thats purely personal.

Very nice Wetherspoons. A generous amount of on street parking close by, great menu, and everything you'd expect. A fairly relaxed-feeling atmosphere on my visit too.

We ordered breakfast It was nearly cold when we started to eat it The mushroom was cold No one came and asked if everything was OK with the food Usually someone asks in other weatherspoons we have been to When the plates were collected they still did not ask if the breakfast was OK Was visiting the town, thought we would have breakfast but would not return again

July 2024, Saturday 2pm visit, a first to tick it off, as that's what I do. The first Wetherspoons ive come across, and sadly not the last, where forming one orderly queue to the bar is considered normal. Not impressed. The pub was not too busy, so I Sat down, and ordered my fish & chip deal via the app. This arrived, with the drink only 45 minutes later. Food was very much OK, but the staff seemed indiffent, unapologetic and just coping I guess. I can only put this low rating visit down to staff issues and/or poor management. That's the way sometimes. 👍🤔

Went here for breakfast after hearing good things about it. Unfortunately the food was ok, but really nothing to shout about. Food was just about warm, bacon on the pancakes was small portioned and quite fatty. We won't be going here again for food because if the breakfast is not really good, the main menu may well be the same.

Absolutely our go to pub in Saffron Walden. Include a large drink in the meal. Good service children friendly as well. If can include football would be amazing!

Food will be sent back multiple times for various reasons, this is after waiting an hour for nachos. The staff are cocky. And the coleslaw will be warmer than your chips... The first time around. 3 stars for atmosphere because of the people I was with. Get your cheap beers but whatever you do, don't order food. I put Naan are the recommended food as its the closest to none.

Comfortable, prices increased tremendously still worth a visit.warm in winter,cool in summer. Sometimes hard to get served at counter but they try hard, management problem .best beer prices ever. Coffee all sorts 1.50p with free refills.sad at weekends no staff to clear the tables.we and others turned away by our own judgement again low staff/managers issue.

As Wetherspoon pubs go this is a decent one.

Had a late lunch here this afternoon..food we had was well cooked and presented, staff were friendly and efficient, people say about pub grub but this was good value for money food with nice staff..

Great for get togethers as everyone can order own food on app. Prices excellent.

We love whetherspoons pubs, but today very disappointed waiting be served about 7mins ,only one person serving others just pottering, went to coffee machine only one working ,poured first cup only filled 3/4 s of cup second cup machine stopped ,went to bar had to wait quite a while kept try to tell them but still had to wait,finally found waitress an told her she sorted it ,had pour 1st cup away to long in cup luke warm ,went to pour coffee again and machine failed again called another girl tapped the machine and it was OK worse wetherspoon we've been in, not the first time we have been disappointed in this one won't be going in there again ,Shame .

Great Wetherspoons in the High Street of Saffron Walden Essex. Good atmosphere, clean and well run. Food service was first class when we visited recently.

The Temeraire looks gorgeous inside, the artwork displayed is great and the information on the places and characters is very interesting and certainly worth a read. There is unfortunately a down side… and that is the food. The food came out lovely and hot, but also with several things missing from the orders. My black pudding was fried so much that it was hard and tasted of just oil it was cooked in, not pleasant. But the beer selection was nice and got to try ones that I haven’t had before. Always an added bonus. 😂

Had lunch here with a few girlfriends. The food was quite nice, but the desserts were very small! Plenty of outside seating as well as inside. The ladies toilets were not the cleanest and didn't smell particularly nice. For a Weatherspoons it wasn't too bad, I've been in worse!

I visited here the other day and ordered some breakfast I ordered from my table and whilst eating it another order of the same came to the table which was took away and I was told the order must've came through twice and that I'd be refunded I still haven't received it I end up being chargered 26 pound for scrambled egg on toast and a breakfast so beware if ordering from your table we also watched as umpteen people left because the tables were piled with dirty plates and took forever to be cleared

It is a Wetherspoons. You will get a comfy chair, bit of peace, a perfect pour on your pint, food in 10-15 minutes barring a rare disaster... It's a 'spoons.

Enjoy a brew dog or two lovely back garden and spacious bar. Haven't had any food here

Staff were absolutely useless, clueless and not interested in serving.

We ordered on the app it took 45 mins for are food and drink to arrive. When are drinks arrived they were in plastic cups. Not enough staff.

The food was lovely : I had a Chared chicken breast burger with chips and a beer. The food was nice, maybe a bit dry, but I loved the endless ketchup and mustard option 😁. The service was really bad: I was waiting at the table for 20min, 2 waiters passed by and I even asked if I need to order at the counter. After reassuring me about the table service, I still needed to wait until I decided to just get up and order at the counter 😂. After that I got my food in 5min with loving attitude. Despite bad service, I'd eat there again 👌

A real surprise, I've not eaten in a Wetherspoons before and the food was excellent , the staff friendly and the prices were very good

9 April 24, food and drinks all good but service was slow. Both took over 10 mins. 26 Jan 24 3 cups of coffee, food a little slow in coming, but tasty and hot. 23 Oct 23 food and service very quick, ordered by the app. 26 July 22 - All good at last. 19 July 22 - drinks arrived half way through meal, still have staffing problems. 23 March - Staffing problems? Ordered via app, 35 minutes later drinks arrived. Another 20 minutes for our food, not good for a fast food enterprise, going downhill fast. However the food was excellent. 19 March - breakfast - bacon butty cold, eggs benidict, eggs like bullets and cold, not our normal experiance Always good value. Service prompt. Last Tuesday 8 Feb, food was fantastic, very fresh, good portions. A week later, it was very poor, a different chef perhaps. Need to sort out their quality control.

Staff are disgusting. Threatened my friend who was standing behind us at the bar, because they have grudges against his family. Told one of my friends who’s the kindest guys I’ve ever met to not get rowdy. Appalling behaviour.

Service is alright you know, depends who is on the floor. I just don’t get why they have such a huge building yet only one floor. Upstairs would be good. They should make it a upper floor thing…

We was at Saffron Walden on a busy Saturday lunchtime trying to find somewhere to eat. We were happy to find a Wetherspoon and luckily found a table. Despite being warned, we may have a long wait. It wasn't too bad at all, and as always the food was good.

Really nice, clean wetherspoons with helpful, friendly staff and great food.

The girl serving was rude and had no customer or hosting skills, if she don't like working serving people go find another job as I'm sure there's lots of other staff that could shine, I didn't end up staying longer that a quick drink, her unwelcoming demenor put me off ordering food. I've worked in the restaurant and bar business for many years and she was by far the worst bar worker I've ever encountered, shame really as the building and restaurant it's self wasn't too bad, got to sat Bury St eds spoons is by far the best ibe been to to date.

Been sat waiting for over an 2 hours for a few plates of food, then to be told children need to be out by 2100, well I ordered food at 1800 and its now 2000. Not my problem

Wetherspoons' breakfast exceeded expectations with its delicious offerings and efficient service. The full English breakfast was cooked well, and the coffee was very reasonable. The cozy ambiance and friendly staff made for a delightful start to the day. Highly recommend for a satisfying breakfast experience.

Very impressed with the high standard of the Christmas Dinner. Quite delicious. Quick and friendly service too. Beer excellent. My wife and I have noticed an improvement of late in The Tem. This is since the new manager took over. A promissing start indeed. I understand as a real ale fan, how difficult it is to provide 4 guest ales when the volume of sales dont justify it. Still the Abbot and even the Ruddles are usually nice and clear and taste as they should. Deffinitely good value and based on this visit a five star review is justified. Well done the team at the Tem!

Excellent if you want good value, swift service from friendly staff. Nothing fancy, but efficient and reliable.

It's only a Wetherspoons, but you have to admit, the value for money is outstanding. If they could only make it a bit more cosy.

My daughter and myself chose the same and had a large mixed grill,came with only 2 out of 6 onions so had to ask for more, the lamb was a big ball of mixed fat and meat, beef was really nice as was the pork and gammon but we still enjoyed the meal. I tried to give a tip with my card but was an unavailable option.

Today we had something to eat again and it was all very good, I could say even better than the previous times, we ordered a spicy chicken burger, a chicken burrito, a Tuna panini, a pint of beer and a Coca-Cola, no We had to wait too long, the food arrived right away. For all this we only paid a little more than £15. We were served by a very young boy who was quite polite and attentive, everything was great, we will return soon.

A very pleasant wetherspoons. A variety of seating areas and a very smart and spacious outdoor area. Friendly and efficient staff.

Food was excellent, steak cooked to medium well, heatwave burger tasted like KFC. Both meals were hot and lovely. There was staff everywhere we kept seeing different ones appearing and all cleaning, serving and asking how customers were. One staff member Mark was like a machine he works incredibly hard. Its very clean and we eat in several wetherspoons and I have never seen staff members cleaning menus and these guys did them all. Will most definitely recommend and return.

This pub has the potential to be a nice place to eat if only it were given some care and attention. We have eaten here a few times over the years but yet the food continues to be served lukewarm and “Chef Mic” had clearly been a factor in warming the apple crumble and custard. A simple classic that I subsequently wish I had bothered ordering. Disappointing.

Great staff, great prices, classic Wetherspoons Pub.

Dirty and in need of a full refurb. Everything was filthy, carpets were disgusting. Food was awful, even compared to other wetherspoon pubs. The one highlight of the meal was the friendly and attentive waiting staff. Couldn't have been better. It's a shame that this dive of a place doesn't live up to their staff. I will not be returning.

Great food cheep beer and a friendly bar staff

One of the largest beer gardens of any pub, never mind 'Spoons, that I have ever seen. Fantastic for summer evenings. Service on certain days (for example when there's a big gig on at the nearby Audley End House) is despairingly slow. Not the fault of the staff, but maybe a bit of planning for the sheer numbers would help?

We went after attending a concert at Audley end. It was full of young folk having a good time although it was tad noisy. Clueless as to whether there is a queueing system when ordering at the bar. A good outdoor area, but this closes at 11pm.

Stayed in Saffron Walden for the Noel Gallagher gig at Audley end. We came here on Friday night and Saturday before the gig.. The pub is absolutely lovely!! Great venue and very welcoming. As it's a Wetherspoons there was a superb selection of alcohol on offer! The bar staff were all very friendly and didn't mind answering our questions about the area. Overall an excellent experience....
