Really authentic and good quality fish and chips fried for each customer. Highly recommend for anyone craving a real fish and chips!

Had fish and chips last week fish was small and chips were rubbish not ask good as usual for the price. Very disappoited and very greasy fish and dry chips

The fish & chips we had from Westmorland Fisheries was outstanding. The size & quality of the fish was amazing. The way the fish was cooked was excellent. We will definitely be going back here.

The fish n chips were good, probably the best in Skipton, but the wait was very long, (30mins to get served) everyone stood outside in freezing temperatures while no one was serving as they were obviously waiting for food to be cooked. Staff friendly but far to busy chatting to their mates to get round to asking customers who wanted fish (which is cooked to order) despite ordering a battered sausage the request was ignored initially, so by the time I’d got to the front of the queue had to stand for over 5 minutes waiting again? Needs to be much slicker, though good food all the same and still blows Bizzie Lizzie’s out of the water

Proper Fish and chips great to found this shop only 5 mins from the canal the staff are very friendly and helpful definitely going to go back before I leave Skipton

We are visiting Skipton and wanted to try some legendary northern fish & chips! We went to Westmoreland Fisheries and had the best fish dinner for a very long time! The haddock was perfectly cooked, the scampi was large and plentiful! This is definitely worth checking out if your anywhere near Skipton!

We came back today on a day trip from Carlisle and glad to report it was just as fabulous as it was when we did something similar a few years ago. The fish, a huge piece of delicious haddock, was moist and tasty and the batter was light and crispy. The chips were spot on. Friendly staff and keenly priced. What more do you need? We’ll done guys, you run a first rate chippy!

First time here and highly recommend. Queue up street on a Tuesday evening was a clue how good they were. Absolutely delicious and really friendly staff. Get there early we were last served. Homemade tartare sauce was delicious too.

Wow.. The fish is served in its own separate fold over box, some 14 / 16 inches long.. As in order a half portion of chips and also a few scraps. This means the serving lad or lass needs to grab another portion box to sell me my chips in as the fish coffin is already stuffed with the haddock. Always takes me two proper sit down pig out feasts to get through my one (half chips!) Order. There are corporate options for chips in Skipton but in my opinion they come nowhere near. Cooked in proper lard, always clean and fresh. Very grateful new owner didn't drop the ball. Thank you Westmoreland Street fisheries. Bob

Neither the owner or staff wear face coverings, when asked they say "we are exempt" young woman serving food talking to customers & shouting to people outside where to queue over the uncovered food she is serving NOT a good idea in a pandemic!!! I won't be going there again

This us without doubt the best fish and chip shop in Skipton, great service, great food, sometimes difficult to park but wait a minute and someone will move ! Enjoy

Just moved in round the corner so Westmoreland has become my new local chippy! Amazing friendly service and look to be keeping very strictly to COVID guidelines! Will be recommending to all my fiends and family, I certainly wasn’t disappointed and will be back again soon! Thank you!

We loved fish and chips from previous owner but wasn’t keen on next owner but having read recent reviews think we need to try again . Is it open during these awful times ?

Blessed to have this chippy close enough to be able to get them home whilst still piping hot. 2 minutes to boil the kettle and microwave a few beans and one is "game on" for a superb piece of our national heritage. Only 2 streets away from where Monty Python filmed the classic "Every sperm is sacred" song with Michael Palin dancing through the back yards and cobbled streets with his dozens of brats. Just thought id add a little colour to my review ;-) These fish and chips are so much tastier than the more obviously located, semi-corporate fish and chip emporiums in town whose quality of fish, spuds or batter are all inferior to Westmoreland street. I was worried when the previous owndmer sold up after decades of being wonderful ~ however the new owners and staff must have also enjoyed the previous offerings because they have only improved on what came before. Theyre not selling dandelion and burdock any longer from the drinks fridge. I'm told the mushy peas are the best, not something I enjoy ever so cannot offer my own opinion on them.

You get a friendly welcome at Westmoreland Street chippy, the shop is clean and prices are clearly displayed. The staff are friendly and the portions of food are generous. There’s just one thing missing quality, the batter is sometimes undercooked and makes for a soggy greasy piece of fish and I prefer properly cooked crispy batter.

Forget the chip shops in the centre of Skipton this shop is the best by far. It’s a 3 minute walk from the high st just past the Plaza cinema. Friendly service. Very clean. The food is very tasty. It’s always busy. Check the opening times as it’s not like the shops in the centre. They don’t open all day everyday.

I’ve tried fish and chip shops all over the country and none of them come close to the quality from this place. They are simply the best fish and chips I have ever tasted.

I have been going for 2 years now,friendly staff ,fish cooked to order ,generous potions and for the environmentally friendly all packing is bio degradable recommend you give this a try you definately wont be disappointed

I have used this fish and chip shop whenever I’m ‘Up North’ and was anxious that the quality might have changed as I’d heard there was a change of ownership. I needn’t have worried. The batter was still the famous bubbly and crisp kind that Southerners just don’t seem able to replicate. The haddock within was perfectly cooked. My only comment would be that they need bigger take away boxes as the very generous portion of fish ( regular not a special )is larger than the container so was a little squashed by the time I got home. Chips were good too - liked that you can get a half portion. Thoroughly recommend.

Me and my partner fancied chips and gravy for lunch today..sat..chips were bland some not cooked through...gravy very watery and tasteless...disappointing.. 2nd visit now and prob be the last 🙁

Called in today and had a the best fish and chips we’ve had for ages. Huge haddock, crispy, light batter and beautifully moist fish. The team behind the counter were great crack; it was hugely encouraging to learn that they were relatively new to the venue but vastly experienced.

The fish of choice here is haddock (I'm used to it being cod and having to wait for haddock to be cooked). It was very nice with crispy batter and a generous portion of chips.

Not good now gone down hill I have had two fish which the batter was not cooked then chips today were warmed up again will stop going there. This is a takeaway only fish shop

We have always loved The fish and chips from here and recommend it highly to friends and family but first time trying since the change of ownership but the batter on the fish was soggy on one side and over cook fish. Not what we really wanted.

Got fish and chips x3 with a tub of gravy...only live round the corner...were not very warm when i got home...chips very dry...gravy very watery...was a let down was looking so forward to them aswell...

Unfortunately this business has changed hands within the last six weeks and in my opinion it wasn’t as good as the previous owners. Before, the food was really hot, now it’s not, our chips looked dry and were not particularly hot, the mushy peas were very thick. I thought the new owner could have been dressed smarter, he looked scruffy. We have been going for years as it was always the best chippy anywhere and ate our fish and chips in the car, but sorry, but we will not be going again.

I used to work close to Westmoreland Fisheries and consequently visited quite often. Their portions were generous and always without exception cooked to perfection. I've just visited again to find the owners have now retired (far too young I might add!) and there's a new team in place. I was delighted to find that the standards have been maintained, and it's still up there with the best around! Giant portion sizes, perfectly cooked - and mushy peas to die for! This is now back on my culinary map, despite not working in the town any more.

Consistently good, good value price wise, joint best chippy in Skipton, with Newmarket Street. Only criticism, is the portions at times can be on the small side.

Banter and the batter are second to none. You will not find better fish and chips in the area and if you wish you can be informed of the state of Skipton Town Council's ineptitude for free

Delicious, fresh and excellent value. My hubby and I love chippy tea at the weekend after work and this is by far our favourite place to go.

Came highly recommended by some local people. Fabulous fish, lovely crisp batter and perfectly cooked chips. It may be tucked away and you may have to queue but it's well worth it to have an authentic Yorkshire fish & chips experience!

After a hospital visit ,I was recommended a visit to this fish and chip shop by one of the nurses and not fancing chips I ordered a special fish and a fish cake. When I got home and opened up my evening meal I was suprised at the size and quality of the fish and the cake was just as good.I can only say that this fish and chip shop should be given a Michelin star at least, and I hope that people reading my review will try it for themselves.

Now this is the best chip shop in Skipton and the best Yorkshire fishcake anywhere and service to match.

Sadly we missed out on the large fish as they had sold out but that should tell you all you need to know. Nice fish... and chips were best that we've had this year. It won't be long until we are back again for more!

Can guarantee this fish and chip shop is always queuing out of the door, even though you wait a little longer you know they will be freshly cooking it- you can even see them doing this! It is a small shop with the same few friendly staff each time :) would definitely recommend!

Been going here for years and every time it scores 10 out of 10. Fish & chips are cooked the proper Yorkshire way, in beef dripping and are always fantastic. They put all other establishments to shame. Quality food and good sized portions.

Been going to Westmoreland St Chippy for as long as I can remember. I haven't had better Fish and Chips ANYWHERE. The man who makes the batter and fries the fish must be some kind of sorcerer! Good portions, good prices, always friendly.A great old school chippy.

Always served quality fish and chips that's why there is a queue and is known around Skipton. Not the biggest like others in Skipton but beats the rest hands down for Quality

This place is a hidden gem! Don't be put off by the exterior or the location of this place. I would have to say that it gives Bizzie Lizzies a run for their money. Really tasty food and at fraction of the cost compared to the hyped up Bizzie Lizzies! And it's Halal for anyone that needs to know.

The fish & chips here are cooked to perfection and it is a shame that I no longer live nearby. It is always busy and it is worth queuing at times as the quality is so good.This place is not in a shopping area as it is situated at the end of a Victorian terrace in a residential area of town.

Visited on a Thursday teatime and again went for the haddock special and chips. Shop very busy (always a good sign) and food was worth the wait. Nice fish in dark batter. Great chips...perhaps the breadcakes could have been a little bigger but a minor detail. Food not greasy at all. We will be back.

This is by far the best chippy around, don't go if you are only just peckish because you get s good helping. Sometimes you have to queue but it's worth it. Don't go expecting it to open all the time like other chip shops in Skipton it's not. It's open weds,third,fri,sat lunch and tues,weds,thurs,fri teatime. Enjoy

I visited this chippy after moving to the area and been told what a gem,how wrong they were!! When returning home I was really disappointed with the size of the portion x2 we had received and we are by no means greedy people,but after a hard days work on a Friday we look forward to a treat..The portions were certainly a kids size will not be returning,and the opening times are also a little short,

Visited this shop on Saturday lunchtime having read reviews and been disappointed by one of the larger outlets in Skipton previously. Two large haddocks and chips ordered and was very pleased we'd taken the time to visit. Good quality fish, nicely cooked in dark batter and chips were similarly well cooked and not greasy. Decent size breadcake and all very competitively priced.Friendly and attentive service and given the shop is around five minutes walk from the bus station,we'd heartily recommend it to anyone.

We visited Skipton for the day on the way home from a short break in the Lake District in search of great Yorkshire fish and chips ,after reading a previous review of Westmorland street fish and chips we decided to try them ,the chip shop is situated in westmoreland street just a short walk from the center of Skipton and is well worth a visit , we arrived at 4.25 just before opening and there was already a queue of locals outside ( which says it all ) Lovely white Haddock crispy batter and handmade chips cooked the traditional Yorkshire way and nice size portions ,would highly recomend .

By far the best fish and chip shop in the area. The queue outside isn't coincidence and the efficient service means you won't have to wait long. The fish is always large and cooked well with delicious batter. The chips are less fatty than you get in a lot of other places and the portion size enough to satisfy everyone.

This fish n chip shop is the best in the area always good quality and get pleanty for your money, locations not great as it's not situatuated in town so doesn't get the publicity it deserves from the tourists

Forget the rest, this is an old school chippy that opens at tea time and gives you good fresh fish and chips. There's always a queue out the street which speaks for itself. Forget the others and seek out this gem as the fish and chips are the best by far. (It's where the locals go for tea on a Friday)

It is well worth finding out this establishment 10 minutes walk from the High Street. It serves excellent fish and chips. The fish is especially good: flaky white haddock in a delicious crispy batter. Portion size is generous. There is always a queue but they are always efficient and friendly in serving their customers.
