Very friendly staff, nice food and great atmosphere

The last pub on our Kirkstall Road crawl of 15/2/25. Visited at an unlucky time as virtually no beers were available on tap and the fridges were empty! Had to settle for generic lager as there were absolutely no other options. Nothing exceptional about the place decor kr atmosphere wise but absolutely not unpleasant or anything. Didn't have a meal, which is what the bulk of the favourable reviews praise so my review is purely from a drinking perspective and honestly would have been slightly better if more beers had been available.

Really great roast, amazingly sized portions and great meat and veggie options! Yorkshire puddings were brill, we’ve all been left stuffed and satisfied!

Had a midweek roast. Choice of meats, including roasties, mash, yorkshire pudding and more veggies than you can eat. Absolutely lovely and highly recommended.

I have dined with my children at the West End the last 2 Tuesdays and the food and service has been fantastic. I ordered steak & mushroom pie with mash and my children both had items from the kids menu (which is fantastic value and includes a drink and desert) The food was gorgeous and so filling that I couldn't finish The staff we're faultless and could not do enough for you I definitely recommend and we will be back next week 🙂

Vine para un almuerzo del domingo y para ver el rugby. Tuvimos 3 cenas asadas y un pastel de setas y Guinness. El equipo era muy amable y el chef incluso comprobó que el pastel era bueno, ya que era nuevo en el menú, todo se presentó bien, y sabía excelente. También fueron muy serviciales cuando pedimos cambiar a qué televisión estaba jugando el rugby.

Nice friendly local pub with a great Sunday roast

This could be a nice pub, but absolutely ruined by the pub landlord, who abuses his staff in front of customers. The way he speaks to his workers is beyond disgusting, shouting at them and insulting them publicly for the most minor thing. Our last trip to this pub we were made to feel very uncomfortable by witnessing such an interaction. As an employer it’s your duty to treat your workers with respect. I found the behaviour of the boss to be beyond pathetic - I’ve worked in hospitality for many years, and I could never imagine a reason to speak to anyone the way in which this man spoke. I also heard a rumour from another customer that he fired someone because they didn’t want to work on Christmas Day? Save your money and go to a pub where the workers are paid and treated well.

As a member of staff, the landlord overall is a great person and accommodates to his staff very well, the new menu has been made specifically to cater for customers who have given requests as he feels the customers matter, he also runs certain events to make the overall atmosphere of the pub a great place to be in, the manager himself is very friendly and wants the best for everyone, the food is always top standard and the wait time is always acceptable I would deffo come in as a customer

As a member of staff here, obviously i am a bit biased but its a great pub to be in, the management is amazing, he’s very friendly and treats everyone with respect staff and customers included, the food here is also immaculate all fresh and delicious, should defo come visit

Went for a quick bite and loved it friendly staff, nice atmosphere with good music, I had the chilli dog which you know is gonna be good when staff bring you extra napkins, would recommend and will be back

Habíamos reservado una mesa para 9 para el cumpleaños de mi hija. Nos habían informado que la cocina cerró a las 6 que estaba bien, ya que todos llegamos a las 5 - 30. Cuando llegamos allí nos informaron que no había Guinness ni sidra en borrador junto con varias otras bebidas, luego nos dijeron que estaban cambiando el menú, así que nada de pollo o lasaña o varias otras comidas, la señora dijo que todo será diferente la próxima semana, lo que, como mi mamá señaló, no nos ayudó esta noche, ya que era el cumpleaños de mis hijas hoy. Realmente mala práctica no hablarnos de los menús reducidos cuando reservamos, una pérdida de tiempo. Nos fuimos y fuimos a otro lugar, lo que no fue fácil para nuestra fiesta de las 9 en poco tiempo. Experiencia muy frustrante que podría haberse evitado fácilmente.

Food was dyer, expensive for what came. Steak n ale pie for 2 mine was OK (stale yorkshire pud on top, not pastry as menu said), our lass noticed it wasn't in puff pastry as advertised so sent back. When came back the stake must have been someone's leftovers (tuff as old boots). Worst was I said the food was gorgeous last time I came. Fortunately today will be the last time I would step foot in the pub.

‘Zero’ food hygiene rating which is basically rank. The owner said previously ‘don’t believe everything you read on the internet’ - what, you mean even the official website for the British food standards agency? Used to be amazing for a Sunday dinner under the old owners, what a shame.

Delicious roast and good selection of beer

Christmas meal was vile, meat was chewy and the mash full of lumps, roasts were roasted to beyond recognition of a potatoe. Should have cancelled after finding out they had a recent hygiene rating of 1. Never again

Christmas Day lunch was brilliant, couldn’t fault it. Always trepidatious about going out for dinner at Christmas but we had no reason to be this year. The food was top tier and there was enough of it to feed a small army, all fresh and tasty and seasoned beautifully. The sticky toffee pudding was absolutely stunning and we brought the cheese board home to dig into later. The service was personable as always and unlike a lot of places on Christmas Day, we didn’t feel rushed or an inconvenience. Even the pooch got her own meal! 10/10 would go again over the festive season. Massive props and thanks to all the staff, the entire experience was faultless and you all did a fantastic job ☺️

Personal amable pero pub necesita una renovación y limpieza. Moscas por todas partes. La comida está destinada a ser buena, pero no comió en mi visita, pero si yo fuera ellos deberían mirar el Beck and Call en Meanwood, dar al lugar un poco de un cambio de imagen y un exfoliante y si la comida es tan buena como se ve en las fotos será embestido

Qué gran decepción. Este establecimiento solía ser un lugar limpio, amable y acogedor para visitar. Leyendo comentarios pasados los nuevos propietarios han estado aquí desde junio. Si bien pueden haber heredado algunas cuestiones, ha habido muchas oportunidades para rectificarlas. El pub ha ido rápidamente más y más bajo en limpieza y acogedor. He estado en un montón de ocupado establecimiento que acepta perros, algunos en el medio del campo que han sido mucho más limpio. Ciertamente no comería aquí y eso confirmó haber visto la calificación de higiene alimentaria CERO. Por tu propia felicidad y salud. ALEJARSE de este establecimiento asqueroso y mal administrado.

Proper local boozer with an awesome menu.

Terrible customer service which is a Shame because the food is good. We’ve been before and the chef was shouting and arguing at our waitress but when the food came it was really good, hence why we gave it a second chance. Today we came (on a Sunday) we were handed the menu and when it came to ordering we were told that we can only actually order the roast dinner and nothing else on the Sunday menu as we hadn’t rang ahead. We then asked if there is any veggie wellington left as we had a vegetarian and were told there was one left. We then decided to go elsewhere because the food we fancied was unavailable and then the waitress was really rude to us and said “well the chef has already got the veggie wellington out the freezer” and stormed off. She then came back and said that the order is cancelled and stormed off again. We felt very uncomfortable sat in the bar finishing our drinks with the tense atmosphere. Really wouldn’t recommend- they need to send their staff on customer service training.

Lovely Sunday dinner turkey and gammon filling and really well cooked and good value.

If I could give it 0 pounds I would, dire food, almost inedible, the lasagna was like rubber and not one person said they liked their meal. Recommended from someone who visited years ago and said the food was great, though as I can see, a new owner came in and presumably the whole place has become run down. The service wasn’t friendly, not unfriendly but just not great. Not a good place to visit neither as a family nor by yourself. I even made an account solely to leave this review. 140 pounds. It was our choice to go there yet I still feel robbed

Came here for food after calling in previously. Food was amazing!! Huge portion sizes and brilliant value. We even ordered a sharing platter not realising how huge it would be... but amazing food will deffo be coming back

Fui por primera vez un miércoles a la hora de comer con dos amigos y estaba un poco aprensivo después de leer un par de críticas en línea recientes. Sin embargo, me impresionó bastante con la comida, ya que todos teníamos diferentes platos y todos calificados como buenos. El servicio del propietario era amable y las comidas eran frescas y calientes cuando llegaron a la mesa. No dude en regresar para otra comida en el futuro.

Jeez went in this pub many times over the years , fond memories before during and after covid , not sure what's happened! Cider off , glasses covered in black mould on the glasses . Weird dj karaoke ,terrible system/ sound and cba to get People up singing.

I visited for Sunday lunch with my daughter and family,(and Bonnie, the Cockerpoo) the pub is a homely friendly pub, and staff are amazing, real personal service. The food was excellent, real home cooked Fayre, there were six empty plates. Highly recommended

We went for lunch as a family group and felt very comfortable from the beginning. Our booked table was set up ready for us with menus to hand. The staff were very accommodating, allowing older children to order from the Seniors menu to get the dishes they really fancied. The food was clearly freshly cooked and came nicely presented. I had the halloumi salad and felt it was great value for money - plenty of halloumi, really nicely roasted peppers, onions and tomatoes, nice fresh salad leaves. The kids loved their burgers (after initial confusion over the charcoal buns) and chips. The ribs and wings platter was huge, but went down extremely well. I would very happily eat here again.

Great quality food, friendly staff, dog friendly

My girlfriend found this spot after looking for somewhere for us to take her visiting parents for a Sunday lunch. We were all very impressed. A very friendly welcome, excellent home cooked food and overall an enjoyable experience. Nice to see people still willing to take on a pub in this climate and work hard to repair any previous bad reputation, hope they keep it up and we look forward to visiting again soon.

Just had a Sunday lunch with my parents and my boyfriend, and it was lovely. Proper home cooked everything, even the gravy. Empty plates and full bellies all round! The bar maid was so lovely, couldn’t do enough for us, and the food didn’t disappoint. The roast dinners look exactly like the photo of them in the kitchen. Being honest, this was not my first choice (two other places fully booked), and was a bit nervous after reading some of the reviews. Yes, the place is a bit run down (which I appreciate the new owners are working on), but the friendly welcome and amazing food more than made up for it. Would I return? Yes, definitely!

Came for food with my 2 children. Lovely friendly service and the food was yummy. Recommend the Yorkshire pudding wraps and the Sunday roasts 😋 oh and the chips are thee best! Yet to try the menu through the week but if there anything like their roasts we will definitely be back.

Visited last week for my birthday meal, 15 of us and we had a feast, Yorkshire pudding was delicious, the pie was outstanding and wow the cauliflower cheese was Devine, defo recommend

Called for a late lunch today, staff were really good, food was good and good value, even had the Olympics on the screens. Could do with a bit of a refurb but otherwise we'll worth visiting with plenty of different drinks on offer.

This place is run down since new owner came in. Clearly the owner is not the brightest crayon in the box and has the business acumen of a 3 year old. The owner is a man utd fan and refuses to show liverpool and city games due to his allegiance. Which brings me back to the guy having a few wires loose up there... who on earth would lease a business in leeds as a man utd fan and show more allegiance to his club than keeping customers in his business happy. Strange person. I hope he changes his ways as I know many people who have stopped going there who were regulars. Vespers gate is the new go to for us now

Absolutely fantastic pub the new landlord and landlady are fantastic. Such welcoming lovely people. The food, service and drinks are exquisite.

me and my fella came in for the first time tonight. The lovely staff made us feel welcomed straight away and the landlord sat bar side was keen to have a laugh and a joke with us which we enjoyed. would recommend if you’re up this way. (walked in on happy hour too getttttttinnnnn)

Popped into this local to meet family before moving on elsewhere we were looking forward to coming as it’s always been a bustling pub especially on a Friday night! Walked in and there was a guy sat at the bar asleep with a pint in front of him, the one member of staff on the bar running round like a headless chicken serving, taking food orders and bringing it out. There’s a sign on the door warning you about a friendly dog which might come and say hello, it wasn’t there for our visit but the aftermath was, seating covered in dog hairs, carpets the same, I was shocked at the cleanliness if I’m honest and then went I went to the loo there’s a sign in there saying the taps don’t work!!! Did manage to wash my hands but then couldn’t turn it off. What a shame the pub was empty no atmosphere which is very sad as in years gone by if you didn’t book a table you weren’t getting in! New owners take note major revamp and deep clean required - oh and get the bloke asleep at the bar moved to a quiet table in a corner somewhere as not a great advert for your pub to see this when you walk in!

Me and my boyfriend popped in today for lunch !! We were served by Lucy who was was very friendly and very welcoming are lunch was really nice and big portions we look forward to another visit

Excellent food, excellent ales and by far the best and most attentive service from any pub I’ve been to in Leeds. They go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable (even moving us to a different table at very short notice to accommodate our pushchair) they could not do enough and it was honestly the best Sunday roast I’ve had in Leeds (we have tried a fair few!) could not recommend you try this pub more

Just came for food here. Asked if they were still doing food.. to be answered yes… kitchen closes at 19:00… So we ordered a couple of drinks..sat down…. To then be told the kitchen is closed and only pizza is available…. Table next to us was reserved.. the guests arrived… sat down.. they were then told all orderers had to be in kitchen for 18:30… To which I said we just got told kitchen closed except for pizza…. Don’t come here 1 1/2 hrs before advertising is the lesson I think. Try else where for customer service..

Great staff and a warm welcome. I have to say that the overall cleanliness of the pub wasn't great....blu tac on the ceiling from Christmas decorations etc, and the gents toilet wasn't in the best of condition, cobwebs on the ceiling and the urinals were either rusting or stained with dried urine. That said, the food smelled and looked lovely, although we didn't eat there. I'd definitely visit again because the staff were lovely, although I'd expect an improvement of the overall cleanliness of the establishment.

We have tried to visit here 3 times recently. The one time we are here the food was good. However twice we have been turned away as the kitchen is closed. Once because of "gas issues" and another because "we have ran out of food". Running out of food on a Monday at 4pm isn't great. Unfortunately we won't bother trying again, and will try elsewhere where we can be reassured the kitchen will be open. This used to be a great pub with great food, but it looks like poor managing and planning will result in the demise of another great local pub..

Following my previous 1 star review and the manager Jamie reaching out to me, I decided to give West End another visit. This time around was a full 180. I always believe that the way a complaint is handled is the true representation of a business, and I am more than happy with how my second visit turned out. I would happily come again. The food was amazing and Jamie and all the staff couldn't have done enough. Thank you! P.s the nachos are the best!

Lovely friendly traditional pub.Food was amazing fresh cooked no frozen veg etc ..The owners are such a friendly couple also wish them every success .The chef also does baking amazing cupcakes and all his desserts are home made ,although we was too stuffed to have one

Terrible experience, food shocking, waited 50 mins, didn’t get what we ordered. Excuse given was the chef had defaulted back to the old menu. I felt sorry for the lady who was relaying the chefs excuses and trying to put things right. Asked to vacate our table before the end of our 2 hour slot, which wasn’t even in the restaurant area, but in a shabby untidy area of the pub, so they could seat another party. The sad part is I have been here before and the food was exceptional.

Had a 60th birthday party on Saturday the 24th February. It was a brilliant night with family and friends. The buffet food was excellent, THE STAFF WERE AMAZING AND THEY WERE PROFESSIONAL AT ALL TIMES THEY MADE MY NIGHT, THE NIGHT TO REMBER, LUCY AND JAMIE ARE BRILLIANT HOSTS.i would recommend the food.

Booked family evening for mums 80th, the lady in charge was brilliant, tried to sort as much as possible because short on some things as day before delivery. Chef made up a combo sharer of what he had and it was very good, as said lady brilliant. We had lovely evening, friendly, chatty and lovely food.

Can't remember the last time we visited this pub.Decided to call in and see if they had room for us for a roast,which they did. Very friendly waitress took our order for beef Sunday roasts. When it arrived,it was nicely presented.Wouldn't say over generous portion of beef or veg.If I had to be over critical think the roasties were reheated as they were rock hard.Never the less I cleared my plate which is unusual for me. Would call in again!.

The bar lady name Victoria was genuinely atrocious, her attitude, her service ect was just completely unacceptable. She also seemed like she was definitely under the influence of drugs, she was sweating during service, had white powder round her nose and constantly taking bathroom breaks while hardly able to form a sentence. I will not be returning to this institution ever again !

29 th anniversary had some lovely food and great hosts. Would definatley recogmend very friendly staff great food best pub in kirkstall.

What a lovely, cosy pub with welcoming and friendly staff. My family and I visited on 2nd January after having had an awful experience at the Bridge Inn. The contrast in customer service was immediately evident. On entering the pub, I was warmly greeted and told we could sit anywhere with our small dog. The food was great and really good value for money. I had the Cumberland sausage and mash which was tasty. They even have a senior citizens' menu with smaller portions and smaller prices! Definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Superb, tasty home cooked Christmas lunch with plenty of choices. Professional and personal touch from the chef who checked that the gluten free choices for one of our guests was ok. We are looking forward to coming back to try more delicious food in particular our relative who requires gluten free as she said that it was the best gluten free meal and choices that she has experienced as a diner.

Had a fabulous festive dinner. Very tasty nut roast and perfectly cooked veg. Brilliant welcoming staff too,all in all had a great time.

My family decided we were having Christmas meal out this year, and this is where we went. The food was better than I expected, and they were good at adapting the dishes due to dislikes of ingredients. The staff were very helpful and nice. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and if you haven't been, I would recommend.

The food here is excellent just went yesterday 17/12/23 for family Christmas dinner. The food was fresh taste lovely and plenty on the plate and service was great . I highly recommend it here and look forward to next visit.

We had a really lovely meal here. Some of us had the Xmas menu which was really nice. There were 12 adults and 2 little ones. Will definitely go again. We spoke to the chef / manager who was really chatty and helpful
