Wendells in Bridgend

Called here a few days ago for chips in the afternoon, as I queued up I noticed there weren't any social distancing sticker warnings, hand sanitizer or anything. The 2 people who were serving weren't even wearing masks but people who were in there used their common sence thank god. Waited for chips to be cooked when blonde woman who was serving went by the door not even outside and lit a cigarette up, all the smoke was coming in and people were coughing. I thought I'd wait to see if she'd go outside to finish but no she just stayed in the door puffing away. So I waited further to see if she washed her hands after her ciggie and and pulling the knickers from her arse and guess what?? She went straight behind the counter and started serving again!!! Totally disgusted I looked at her and walked straight out. Never again, I gave them the benefit of doubt last time but no way am I stepping foot in there again. How they have a 5 hygiene rating is beyond me.

Amazing fish chips and mushy peas. Real traditional British food. The portions are huge and definitely value for money. Hubby had pie chips and curry sauce which neither of us could finish because of the generous sizes. Excellent service too.

I wrote a short review a while back after our first visit to Wendells. We are renovating in the area so have been back a few times now. They are consistently excellent, some of the best chips I have had from a chippy, good sized portions and fantastic value. It wasn't a one-off, they are good every time. Hats off to you all.

We are staying on the area for a while and thought that we would try the chippy about 200 ft away! Glad we did. Ample portions,perfect chips and a reasonable price. All served with a smile.

I was new to the area, and the owner made me feel welcome, but they were closing at the time I went there. They did serve me with a lovely meal and told me the opening times for the future visits, as I live 200 yards away. I will be going there again soon.

Food fantastic as always best chippy around here. Big portions and great prices can't wait to have another meal from here

Everything is good from here, with large portions and huge fish you cant go wrong, little bit slow and over priced but still really nice. Second best in the area behind Cymmer fish bar

well worth a visit if you are in the area would definately recommend going there you can have a good meal plenty of choice to please all the family and the chips are excellent

Called here tonight 24.01.17. Was informed that the prices have gone up due to v.a.t increase, what bull pooh!!! The lady serving informed me that she also has been made to cut portions by half and she was very embarrassed and stated lots of customers have come back to complain and she feels awful, I believe her as she's lovely! So i ordered my large cod and small chips (which normally fully feeds the two of us) As i looked at the price board the prices only went up by about 40p but when we got home the portion of the chips was really half a scoop. And although the fish was still excellent it was quite small in comparison to all our previous visits, Feel quite ripped off and they have lost our custom, they know they have the monopoly and i think they are hiding behind "v.a.t price increase" as they know people will go there for the fish, but very sadly we will not be returning as portions are quite considerably not worth our hard earned cash! We understand that prices do increase but to cut portion sizes the same time is just a rip off and people are not stupid they will go elsewhere. So until they return portions to normal sizes then we will not return, never thought i would slate this place but here we are!!!!

Had cod and chips and sooo happy to say it's back to normal, i found out they had a lot of stress as owner was not too well and there was so much worry about her,but thankfully she's ok now, as it is family run you can really understand. Food delicious as usual. Thank goodness all is ok. Thanks to a great community of customers that they understand the importance of such a worry about a loved one being ill and still trying to keep a business afloat, well done to them xxxxx Food delicious, staff wonderful,and clean as can be.

Hands down best chip shop in the area. Always hot and delicious. Sometimes a queue but it's well worth it. Plenty of choice. We love the Irish curry too.

I feel really sad to say this but the quality and standards have really gone down hill from my previous visits. The last few times i have been here, i got home and the fish has been extreamley greasy and the chips have been tasting rather sweet. I don't know what the change is but they have to reverse it. I used to love coming here as it is clean and staff are fabulous, but there is just something missing. Maybe they have changed supplier. I'll give it a few weeks and try again hopefully it will be back to the same delicious food.

A lovely little chip shop in my local village of Caerau Maesteg. The fish and chips are lovely big only thing I will say it's going down hill slowly it's awful to see.

Very clean, Good food, fish is always cooked well and very tasty chips but the cost is a bit of a shocker for a family of four, even with the kids choosing jumbo sausage!
