WC - Wine & Charcuterie in City of London, Westminster

We came here after a bad experience somewhere else and were looked after by Maizie and Phoebe. They were amazing. The food, wine and cocktails were great. Thank you so much. Still the best place in Clapham. Service was above and beyond.

An otherwise fun novelty bar let down by poor service. We went quite early - 5pm on a Saturday - and the bar wasn't close to full, but the staff seemed pretty rushed / behind on set up. We arrived to be pointed to a table missing a chair, and had to wait around 10 minutes to be given a menu. We ordered some salted almonds which were forgotten. It gets pretty cold in their over winter if staff don't keep the curtained entrance at least mostly shut, which they didn't - I got up twice to remedy this but I don't think it registered. Despite this, it's generally a pretty cool, intimate space - candlelit and atmospheric. Unfortunately, they do have old boxes and clutter jammed above cupboards which somewhat limits the effect. Overall, a pretty underwhelming experience, which is a shame as I've previously been quite impressed by the enthusiasm, knowledge and expertise of the staff, none of which came across this evening.

After coming to W&C a couple of times for drinks with friends I decided to host my 30th birthday party here - and it was the best choice I could make!! Excellent service, Sam has been so helpful throughout the organisational process, with suggestions and general support. The food was great, cocktails too (they even made signature cocktails based on my favourite flavours). The atmosphere of the venue is intimate but unique and everyone had a great time. Whether you’re looking for a spot to grab some drinks with your friends, a date or host your event, look no further. W&C has got you covered!

Great little spot which feels hidden and local but in the heart of Clapham Common. Great food selection for nibbles while you have some drinks and great soundtrack!

Had a really great time for a friends birthday. Cocktails weren’t cheap but were delicious. Came all the way from north London and didn’t regret it!

I can’t believe how many times I’ve been at Clapham Common station and not come across this hidden gem but so glad I have discovered it now. The cocktails were amazing and Sam was super helpful and managed my friend’s birthday event perfectly. Will definitely be back!

perfect date night spot ! went with my partner with the intention of having a couple drinks and a cheese platter, and ended up spending the best part of four hours there, a bottle of wine, 2 cocktails and a couple of glasses of wine later.. great service and atmosphere, tasty food and drinks - will definitely be back !

Although I did enjoy myself here, The venue felt unheated on a cold November evening. The prices were a little high for the quality of the Red, and side portions for the area. Maybe a venue for the summer months?

A cute place however was let down by service. Staff were quite inattentive as we had to signal to them so we could order. We didn’t notice the 2 hour time slot when booking and were only told very shortly after ordering a bottle of wine we had to give the table back in 20 minutes. Felt quite rushed out, then when we asked to finish our drinks at the bar we were rudely told from staff behind the bar we couldn’t stand there as it was a private event. Wouldn’t been understandable if these issues were delivered in a decent way however it left us feeling unwelcome and an inconvenience to the staff. Disappointed as we were there for a friend’s birthday and had enjoyed ourselves until then.

We had such a great evening celebrating my father in laws birthday! The service was 6 stars with complimentary Prosecco and a cake with a candle despite me informal them on arrival (ps the phone lines don’t work). Apologies for not recalling the name, but the Irish gent could not have been more helpful or charming including taking my pram up stairs and not taking no for an answer. We had a gorgeous red from Rhone advised by him and the charcuterie was absolutely delicious. Even impressing my French father in law! Thank you so much guys!

This place is really authentic and unique. The architecture is just so beautiful. Good selection of cocktails and wines 🍷 The food is also delicious and the staff is really nice and helpful. I will come back for sure 🥰

Perfect place for a date, I'm fact tables are mostly for 2 people and you can tell everyone is there on a first date. The location looks great and the atmosphere is perfect. The food is probably not enough for a full dinner so don't assume this could be your restaurant date. Food was super tasty nonetheless, just a bit small the selection. I'll go back 100%

Lovely hidden Gem in London with a very cosy, intimate vibe. The drinks and food are absolutely fantastic and the service is even better. Everyone was super attentive and welcoming. Now this place is small!, but all things and packages as they say…great vibe and atmosphere..first visit and we live in the area! our server was so happy and friendly, recommending wines and mixed chac board, cheeses to die for, wasn’t sure how to fit on tiny table but just added to the charm…time passed quickly and didn’t want to leave…might be back!!!!

Booked for 7pm on a Sunday and were told there was only camembert left out of the main dishes/sharer boards. Ordered a glass of wine and then about an hour later the table next to us, who had arrived later, were able to get a sharer board without issue. The bar is very nice and creates a good atmosphere, but dissappointed with the supposed lack of charcuterie at a charcuterie restaurant.

Stepping into this WC turned wine and charcuterie bar felt like a journey from novelty to disappointment. While the idea of dining in a converted water closet may seem quirky, the experience flushed away any hopes of a delightful evening. The charcuterie, priced as if it were artisanal, resembled a school lunch gone wrong, and the taste? Well, let’s just say it left me wondering if I had mistaken it for dog food. Tables, reminiscent of tiny islands in a sea of limited space, posed a hazard more than a convenience. In fact, I narrowly avoided turning myself into a human torch just trying to accommodate our order. The ambiance initially whispered promises of charm, but the closer inspection revealed a layer of grime that made me question the establishment’s hygiene standards. The echoes of former restroom glory lingered in the air, along with the unmistakable aroma of uncleanliness. To top it off, the uninvited guests—bugs on the walls—prompted a sudden evacuation from neighboring tables, highlighting the staff’s prowess in bug hunting over service. And let’s not forget the ‘time limit surprise’—a gentle reminder that your hour and a half is ticking away, accompanied by the not-so-subtle hint of impatience from the waitstaff. In summary, leaving the WC wine and charcuterie bar left me feeling as unsatisfied as a clogged drain and as dirty as the walls. Two stars might be generous, but alas, even a water closet deserves some credit for trying.

If you're a person who loves candlelit, romantic, cosy and gothic spaces as well as CHEESE and WINE then this place is for you. Take a date 🌹 or a mate and you'll have a glorious eve.

Had high hopes for the vibe of this place and was not disappointed. Very friendly staff (Esme and Stuart looked after us exceptionally well during a very busy evening) and ultimately what you want from somewhere like this is good atmosphere, great wine at a reasonable price, and tasty meats and cheeses. We got all of those (only criticism would be that the charcuterie board could've been a little more generous) and had a great time in a cosy booth.

The food was incredible the drinks were incredible but more importantly Esme was incredible!!

Annabelle and Claudia are the most charming hostesses. Service was impeccable and they made sure our glasses were never empty.

After an evening out, we decided to swing by WC for a drink before heading home - the time was around midnight. Unaware that the bar normally closes at 12.30, we entered, were welcomed and seated as per normal, and ordered a carafe of wine and beer. 10 minutes after our drinks arrived, the staff came over to let us know the bar was closing and we had 20 minutes to leave. Feeling slightly surprised, I pointed out to the wait staff that we had literally just received our drinks, and this was insufficient time to allow us to properly enjoy our drinks. As I personally had ordered a carafe of wine, it essentially meant downing 2 glasses of rather expensive glasses of wine in 20 minutes. The wait staff called over the manager, who essentially informed us that she felt they did nothing wrong and that we still had 20 minutes to finish our drinks (that we received minutes ago). Shocked, I told her this was unacceptable and requested a partial refund equivalent to the second glass of wine (half of the carafe price), which she refused, once again citing that they have done nothing wrong. Before leaving, I stopped by the manager's desk, and let her know of my disappointment, as a long term loyal customer this was the first time the experience has been utterly beyond disappointment. The partial refund I requested was a small amount (15£) compared to the business that I personally have provided during multiple visits, as well as from friends, family and others that I have brought and introduced to the establishment. She told me with a flat face she understood and that she was sorry to lose my business. Whilst I completely respect an establishment's opening times and that staff need to abide by rules, the manager's handling of this particular incident was disappointing and communication would have been helpful. The staff when we arrived at the bar never warned us that the bar was about to close. When we were deciding between ordering a glass or a carafe (which was double the price), the wait staff also did not inform us that we would only have a short time to enjoy our drinks. Sadly that is and was the last time we will ever go back.

Had an absolutely lovely evening here on Thursday, highlights were the smoked pear sour cocktail and excellent service from Annabelle who was super attentive and helpful! Great atmosphere so will definitely be coming back.

Interesting quirky wine bar in converted Victorian 🚾 under Clapham Common tube station. Good selection of drinks & cheese/meats plus a few other lite offerings.

A great spot for a unique and cosy drink in the middle of Clapham. Hidden under the station this is the perfect place for an evening. The cocktails were interesting and delicious (highly recommend grasshopper, tastes just like ice cream) and the service was impeccable. Everyone was smiley, attentive and welcoming from the minute we stepped foot through the door. Will be visiting again soon!!!

They said they had a small kitchen on a Saturday night which is understandable but the managers could easily take fewer bookings or advice on waiting times. Incredibly poorly managed, unfriendly and unprofessional staff with no senses of urgency. We’ve all worked in hospitality before, it was abundantly clear to us that the staff were untrained. Would absolutely not recommend this place, £100 down the drain.

The charcuterie boards were tiny for the price and unfortunately service was incredibly slow. 40mins for a cheese board when it wasn’t busy. The waitress was friendly and nice but clearly needs more staff.

Very nice place. The wine list is both extensive and curated, showcasing a range of old-world classics and new-world gems. Each bottle tells a story, and the knowledgeable staff are more than willing to guide you through it. The cheese and charcuterie pairings are impeccable, elevating the wine-tasting experience.

It’s a comfortable , cosy and slightly quirky venue, perfect for a shortish visit. Service is pleasant and unobtrusive and perhaps not for someone who demands instant attention. Wine and charcuterie were all pretty good. I would perhaps have preferred a more extensive wine list. The decor is quite grand, dark and wooden and befits the heritage of the bar although perhaps for a converted Victorian WC, the single toilet is a little underwhelming. On a Monday night, it was full and with groups waiting / being turned away.

We saw this on a “strange things to do in London” list. It’s a great idea! I like how they’ve kept a lot of the old fixtures and fittings. The stairs leading down could do with a little tidy up to add to its impact. The place itself keeps its charm and it’s a nice atmosphere. We had a meat platter and cheese platter, both were very nice. The kitchen doesn’t open until 6:30, so just bare that in mind when making your plans for afterwards. They had none of the “specials wine list” which was a little disappointing. However, we did enjoy the experience and would recommend as something a bit different.

We had a table booked for 7pm and arrived on time. We were sat on a tiny table and ordered a bottle of wine and food. There wasn't even enough room on the table to fit the food, so they took away the plates and water on the table. I asked to be moved to a bigger table considering there wasn't any room at all and they declined. Just over an hour after we got there at 8.15 after only having the food for about 20 minutes, we were informed that we had to leave because they needed our table for another booking. I've never been anywhere where the booking for a table only lasts an hour. We got moved to a booth for 30 minutes instead and were then kicked out and had to rush finishing our drinks. We were out of the venue less than 2 hours after arriving. The waiting staff were then very rude when I respectfully requested to have the service charge removed due to this experience. It is shocking they had the audacity to include it on the bill in the first place with the service. Aside from being moved and kicked out after spending a lot of money, the service was slow and they didn't come to check how the food was. I understand places get busy and businesses are under pressure to turn tables around, but not even having an hour and a half at a table before getting kicked out when we had a bill of just over £90 between two is unacceptable, especially with how the waiting staff managed this. It's a shame because the venue is nice, but the service was atrocious. You wouldn't even experience service this bad at a Nandos or a Wetherspoons. My advice would be to spend your time and money elsewhere.

Came in here last Thursday with my family and I was astounded by how good both the food and service was. The atmosphere was just right, the music on point. Everything seemed under control and our food and drinks came out nice and quick. A good selection of wine is available, and the cocktails (especially the Mexican Butterfly) were very tasty. In terms of food, the baked camembert is a must! They serve it drizzled in honey and with a stick of rosemary on top - showing fractionally just how much care they put in to the venue. Definitely recommend coming here! Special thanks to the tattooed girl for her excellent customer service

Nice atmosphere but the service is extremely slow

Intimate atmosphere, best suited for dates atmosphere & food-wise. We had a few servers but our first was Yash, who was lovely and personable. To get here you need to walk down stairs and space (unless you get a booth) might be a bit cramped with a walking support.

Loved this place! The staff were very friendly, the food & wine were delicious - my favourite was the duck roulettes. The only let down was that they had ran out of a few things, such as the meatballs, truffles & belvedere vodka, but other than that it was a lovely night x it’s right beside the tube so it’s convenient for getting home afterwards - I can’t wait to revisit x

Having been to WC many times and experiencing great food and service, last night was very disappointing. The cheese board was, for lack of a better word, laughable. It honestly looked like a child assembled the board. It was shocking, and clearly a far different standard than any of our previous visits. While the waitress was friendly, the bar was immensely understaffed. I felt bad for the staff. The plating on all of our food was juvenile at best…far from the professional standard we have had in the past. I hope this was a glitch, otherwise, we wont be regulars for much longer. :(

Had a wonderful time at this quirky and intimate venue. I loved the authenticity and atmosphere in here. It is totally unique with a romantic and intimate vibe to it. Drinks are very reasonably priced, so you can try out as many as you like without spending a fortune. Shout out to Tomacina, the Manager on duty on Saturday night. She was rushed off her feet, but could not have been more welcoming, helpful and hospitable. Perfect host - thank you so much! I would definitely return here. Loved it.

This is one of those places you don’t want to review because you don’t want other people knowing what a gem of a place you’ve found. Thanks for looking after us so well - I wish I did have an “in” on those red sambas.

Cute bar, nice atmosphere and enjoyable wines. A shame that when the bill came, all but 1 (of 6) prices were higher than stated on the menu. When I went to the bar to pay, (because the service was slow - admittedly it was busy, but, there were 4 staff on shift) I was told the menus are outdated and need updating, with no offer to correct the bill. I had to request to pay the prices on the menu. (why?) The online prices haven't been updated as of 23rd July 2023 either. This wasn't the service charge either, that was separate.

One of my favourite places in London. A true hidden gem right next to the tube station. The wines on offer are all great and the food is absolutely amazing. My go to, to take out-of-towners for a brilliant time.

Worst service I have ever experienced in London. We had to get up and go to the waiters for every order as we got tired of waiting and not have anyone come to take our orders throughout the night. They messed up more than half the orders and over charged us at the end. Food was edible but far from great. I would avoid it at all cost.

Just been here this evening, really nice. Warm welcoming and nice staff, great selection of drinks and food. It was an ideal place to start and it's right next to Clapham Common underground station, so it's an ideal location and easy to access too. It's very cosy, ideal for going on a date, visiting with a loved one, or catching up with a friend. Solid A**** LDT x

Went to WC Clapham for Valentines Day, but came away quite disappointed. We go to WC at least once a year and have done for a few years but this time it just wasn't the experience we're used to. It lacked that warm hospitality that has had us returning year after year, and a few of the wines on the list were discontinued so felt there wasn't the exciting list of options to try new things. Hopefully by the time we go back there'll have been a turnover of staff and an updated menu. Might have to try the other one in Bloomsbury in the mean time, or go back to Naughty Piglets in Brixton, as a similar offering, more foodie, but much better quality overall.

Visited this bar on Tuesday evening as a group of three. The place is quirky with a cosy atmosphere. We were given a lovely little booth and told they would need the table back in 2hours which was absolutely fine. We tried various wines and cocktails - wines were good, cocktails were generally not to our taste, bar one that was fabulous. As I’ve seen in various other reviews, the service is what really let the place down. We found ourselves sitting with empty glasses a lot, to the point we twice went to the bar to order. Just under half an hour before our time to leave our table, we flagged down the waitress for another drink. As we ordered from the menu, she quite literally lifted her wrist and stared pointedly at her watch. Our drinks came much faster than previously and were plonked in front of us rather rudely. Not long later, she returned and threw the bill on the table, telling us our table was to be vacated, before herself disappearing once again. A waiter who we had not encountered then appeared to take payment at which point my boyfriend asked if the service charge could be removed. The waiter turned on his heel without a word and stormed off. When he reappeared, my boyfriend said he wanted to explain why we had decided not to pay it, but was interrupted by the waiter snapping “You don’t need to tell me, I’ve taken it off.” My boyfriend disregarded this and explained it was due to slow service etc. to which he was told someone had called in sick and they were therefore busy. It was exceptionally uncomfortable and we could not wait to leave. As we gathered our things, we could clearly see the staff discussing us with distaste before sarcastically simpering “Have a lovely evening,” as we walked past. What a let down.

Such a cute wine bar, perfect for dates or a night out with friends. The drinks are expertly made and the food is so so yummy! Sarah is amazing and made me an elderflower gin cocktail that I highly recommend.

Booked an anniversary meal here and after we had been seated we were told that no chef was available for two hours so we couldn’t eat. We had plans afterwards so couldn’t wait two hours to eat but were quite disappointed that they didn’t call ahead to let us know this or that none of the members of staff mentioned this to us until we had been seated. The restaurant was empty so imagine most people had left and we ate in a nearby restaurant. I emailed them about this a week ago and got no response.

Me and my friend turned up to the Bloomsbury branch on Sunday 11th, in the freezing cold and snow, travelled 90 mins to meet each other in town and we turned up to the bar padlocked up, no explanation to why the bar was closed, open table had only confirmed the booking with me the day prior. I rung the Clapham branch and no answer, a couple of days later I tried again as Bloomsbury number wasn’t answering. The ‘operations manager’ answered and I explained the situation and he apologised and said it’s a glitch in system and it shouldn’t be allowing people to book Sunday as they are closed - which is absolutely ridiculous as there was even another couple in front of us who also had a booking so how many people and how long has this been happening?! The manager said he’d call me the next day to sort out some compensation- I heard nothing. I then chased the Tuesday after that, he said oh I’m sorry, I will call you tomorrow I promise, he took my email number, and again, nothing. This is the worst customer service I have experienced, I am having to chase them, which I shouldn’t have to do. I spent £35 in travel to get to London to meet my friend and we were left in the cold with our plans ruined. I will be chasing again in the new year but I would avoid this place altogether.

Had high expectations for this wine bar/restaurant. Unfortunately, didn't live up to them. Good wine selection. Food was okay: we ordered the rilettes which was nice, the Camembert with bread and the raclette (cheese was quite bitter not sure why). Atmosphere was nice though. Slightly overpriced.

Lovely little spot. A converted toilet that now houses a cute basement wine and charcuterie place, very cool with tasty food and great wines to pair with it. Highly recommend to fans of either.

Visited afterwork with my sister in law and had a couple of nibbles alongside some lovely drinks. This small and inviting space is intimate and cosy. It really has a lovely vibe and is certainly one you’d need to book in advance due to the limited number of seats available. We had a lovely time and will most certainly be returning.

We were looking for charcuterie and this spot came up in my search nearby. You really need to look for it - located downstairs and only a small sign. We enjoyed our visit - great atmosphere and we enjoyed our wine and charcuterie. Would recommend.

Lovely place that I hadn’t been to since pre-lockdown. Unfortunately an incident wasn’t handled well, where at the beginning when ordering we requested gluten free due to allergies (didn’t mention severity because why should we need to) this wasn’t passed on for the final dish. The staff took partial responsibility while explaining it’s also our issue for not explaining the extent of the allergy. If you do have allergies please mention it and the severity at every encounter with staff as they seem to need the reminder. Personally I don’t think it should matter what the severity is, if an ingredient free option is offered and requested it should be honoured.

There for a private party, very slow service (25 minutes wait), drinks wrong several times, staff standing around (only 1 serving drinks). Min spend not reached it wasnt reached due to slow service.

Such an amazing atmosphere, staff are all so welcoming and friendly and most importantly the wine and cheese is absolutely amazing! Such a large variety - would highly recommend!

Lovely cocktails and food. The service was great, we had a lovely server (we didn’t get her name, hair in a bun with a dress) who was so attentive and friendly. Great bar for a date or catch up with friends in the centre of Clapham common.
