What a disappointment. Ordered southern fried chicken burger, the smallest one I have ever seen, served on a massive bun, not even a full lettuce leaf, tiny bit of tomatoe, however enough chips to feed four people, huge & very dry, obviously trying to fill the plate!!!. Ate the burger all be it extremely dry & over cooked. I did mention to the staff how wasteful it was serving so many chips, other diners left most of there chips.this cost me almost £12 . I won’t be returning, neither will my friends.

Afternoon tea with my family was absolutely superb. Attentive staff (Shazza). It was really busy and I’m not surprised, my advice would be to run not walk to book a reservation if you want a really good afternoon tea.

We were given vouchers as a Christmas gift and had a most pleasant visit. The staff welcomed us warmly and showed us to our seats and a table that had been made to look special with a floral arrangement and special serviettes. We were served an alcohol free fizz drink that made a nice start. When the tea arrived it looked most impressive as everything was so nicely displayed. The sandwiches were beautifully presented in quite an innovative way and were lovely and fresh. Scones followed with jam and cream and after that, we each had three cakes. Plenty of tea, too! Thoroughly recommended. Staff were excellent throughout.

I frequently use this cafe because it delivers on so many fronts. The food is freshly made and locally sourced, the coffee is excellent. The setting too is a delight, with restful views across the lake. However, it is a dedicated whole staff team that make this place so special. It remains a family firm with a philosophy that has been in place for three generations, that values and puts the customer's needs at the heart of everything they do. We are incredibly lucky to have such a gem in our neighbourhood!

It was meant to be a family breakfast birthday celebration. A table for 6 and a child had been reserved. I had bought in a birthday cake to be presented after the meal. We were informed after waiting in the queue to order that breakfasts were no longer being served. Apparently there was a staff shortage and they were unable to cope with the demand. Disgraceful. I explained our circumstance and a staff member did say we could have a breakfast but 45 mins later. Our 22month grand daughter was already hungry. No alternative but to wait. Of the 7 breakfasts one arrived 10 mins late - most of us had almost finished ours. The poached egg breakfast had to be returned as they were overcooked. The toast for all of us was on the burnt side. Insufficient scrambled egg compared to the amount of toast served. A very disappointing family birthday breakfast. Management should have catered first for the reserved tables before taking on additional customers.

Popped in for lunch with my Husband - we took advantage of a full cooked lunch. Had the lasagne - the meat and pasta were tasty, however it's far too loaded with cheese for me - some may like this, but it was swamped, shame. Salad looked a bit tired too - it's been much better on other days. Happy to give the benefit of the doubt as it's usually fab here.

Lunch here took nearly two and a half hours due to the slow service. Initially we had to select a table that wasn’t clean - one young male staff member started cleaning it then buzzed off without finishing the job and didn’t come back to the table, so we had to get the attention of someone else! Yes the cafe was busy, but some staff were not doing a lot and the staff operating the till were taking a long time and didn’t know the answers to simple questions about menu items e.g. was the quiche vegetarian. The staff member checked with the kitchen and came back saying the quiche had cheese & eggs in it, so they were clearly unaware of basic dietary differences between vegetarians and vegans! There was an issue with the card machine where it wouldn’t process our payment then the machine froze - our transaction produced a ticket for the kitchen but it was unclear whether the money had been taken, so we had to pay again just in case! This later affected our enjoyment of the meal as we had to keep checking online banking (on the cafe’s slow WiFi) to check whether the payment had gone through once or twice. The manager did advise that if the payment was taken twice, she would of course arrange a refund. Food took a while to come out and there was over a 5-minute wait between the first and fourth main courses for our table. This was an unnecessary delay; it’s not difficult to get 4 plates of food out to the same table at the same time or within a minute or so of each other. I had asked got extra butter with my jacket potato at the time of ordering and was assured it would come on the side of the plate - it didn’t of course, so I requested this from staff and had to ask a second time when they returned to the table without butter! My potato also arrived with no cheese, when I had clarified at the time of ordering for a potato with cheese & beans. Condiments on the table had also not been replenished. Surely all of these are basic things to get right, from a cafe that usually has higher standards. The food tasted nice, but was pricey. Puny portions of peas. Tea was also very expensive and not value for money at £5.20 for a small pot for two! Ordered puddings and these took a-g-e-s to be served. All 4 were brought over separately one at a time, and again with about a 7-minute delay between the first and fourth which was utterly ridiculous!! Time wasted by staff creating a dragonfly out of cocoa powder rather than serving the puddings, but they only did this on two of the four plates - unnecessary and why the inconsistency?! What really made me cross was when the puddings were brought to the table, the young male staff member who had earlier abandoned the task of cleaning the table put the puddings down without removing any of the dirty plates from our ‘main course’. He made no attempt to do this and this should be basic common sense/customer service in food establishments! I literally had to pass him some of the empty plates and ask him to take them away, absolutely unbelievable! The scone was quite dry and would have benefited from more jam. Puddings were better value than the other food, but at an overall cost of £75 for lunch for 4 people, it won’t be a regular occurrence for us to eat here.

Choosing baked jacket potato with salad and coleslaw it arrived without the coleslaw. I politely reminded the waitress who was happy to fetch it straight away. Well ... how very funny! I was given an eggcup sized tiny bowl with about a heaped teaspoon full of coleslaw - less than a mouthfull. Thinking there had been a mistake and on my friend's insistence I questioned this at the till to be told this was usual. We won't be taking our lunch there again - what meanies!

This is a lovely little cafe I'm a lovely setting within Wheat & Sons garden centre. There's a little fairy trail and the cafe makes for a perfect stop either before or after. Nice menu and selections with some albeit it limited gluten free items. Worth noting though that there are notices that cross contamination cannot be guaranteed. Due to my daughter having coeliac disease I asked permission for her to eat her packed lunch and with the manger consulted this was kindly allowed. I bought a beautiful hot chocolate which was perfectly made and a jacket potato which again was tasty and well prepared. Decent sizes too so I thought fair value. Nice selection of cakes and biscuits, again with a couple or gluten free options. We bought a prepackaged GF cookie which we shared and enjoyed. Will definitely visit again.

Visited yesterday afternoon 11/8. Arrived at 2.10, waited for a table in the shade, perused menu then went up to order. Despite the many staff milling around was left standing at the till for a good few minutes, then one of the staff started flicking through some papers and then without a word to me, hung a sorry we are closed notice on the till! Only when I spoke to query that I was there before the notice was I even acknowledged! I was told there was a notice outside telling people, there wasn’t! Notice says closed at 3.30, it was 2.40 when I went up to order. I understand it was an extremely hot day, they may have had issues but that does not excuse the complete lack of interest in customer care and rudeness. They were not interested at all in checking what I wanted to order, I told them my daughter who is pregnant felt dizzy and was not even offered a glass of water. We are locals and have been here many times, we will still visit the garden centre and florist, where the staff are excellent but will not return to the cafe. We went over the road to Pacific where the service and food was excellent.

Took 10 minutes for replacement cake to be served. Lots of staff hanging round till, lady on till kept turning round to eat something and turned round obviously chewing. Will never go back, lovely garden centre and walk but cafe lets it down big time. Also, opening hours are not helpful, opening at 10 and closing at 3.30 doesn’t make good business sense. This could be so much better.

I was a little dubious about coming back here as the first visit when they opened wasn't impressive but I have to say this was a much better experience. Our visit was for afternoon tea and I have to say it was one of the best we've had (and we've had a few). The addition of a glass of non alco bubbly was a very nice touch. We had excellent service from the friendly staff, nothing seemed too much trouble. The tea itself was plentiful and nice alternatives for me as a veggie. This morning a colleague and myself, fancied a more up market breakfast rather than a greasy spoon. We’ve had breakfast 4/5 times here over the last year and it has always been okey, Not fantastic for the money but no real complaints. Today unfortunately the breakfast wasn’t very good at all. Our pouched eggs were more like boiled eggs, sausages were small and over done and bacon was of poor quality. The service and staff are always polite and friendly but two lakeside breakfast, tea, coffee, two orange juices and extra toast was the best part of £36. We ordered extra orange juices throughout our breakfast as they were very dry which took around 20 minutes to come at the coast of £5.50. All in all rather expensive, lack lustre breakfast

Although it is titled 'Cafe' we felt that we were frowned upon for just ordering two coffees. The waitress delivering the coffees asked if there was anything else ? Not sure what this meant as we had just ordered at the till , other than " are you only having coffee and yet you are taking up a table with lunchtime approaching " .It was 11 .30 and 50% of the tables had a Reserved notice on them. For purely a restaurant, I'm sure that this is a good practice, but I feel that a Cafe linked to a garden centre should be more accommodating to people popping in to make a purchase at the garden centre. At the same time two moms with toddlers were asked to move off their table, to a smaller table so that a further Reserve notice could be put down. Shame, as coffee was lovely !

Had breakfast here and if I may say it was superb. All cooked fresh to order and served by friendly staff who deserved a tip. Keep up the good work.

This place is surprisingly good. Inside is very nicely decorated and lovely to be right by the pond. The cakes are all set out nicely and the Guinness cake is amazing! The staff were really cheerful and the food came quickly. Would visit again to try another cake.

Booked afternoon tea for 4 of us on a Saturday afternoon. It was my second visit to the cafe and first time trying the afternoon tea. As soon as we arrived, our table was clearly labelled and thoughtfully decorated to make it look a bit more special. Staff were friendly and attentive, but left us to it at the same time which was good. Hot drinks were topped up frequently, the non-alcoholic bubbly was lovely and the food was amazing - including an equally good vegetarian option. Had a great visit and will be returning!

We called in primarily to look at the plants but decided to stop for a coffee as the weather was so nice. The outside tables are located next to the water and offer nice views. The service was a little slow but the coffee was nice and hot. A nice spot to linger.

Arrived for afternoon tea today which was pre booked for my grans 82nd birthday. Surroundings were great, staff friendly, but the tea, well the sandwiches were lovely if you liked cheese - which unfortunately 2 of us didn’t - no choice - cheese and tomato or cheese and onion !! Usually you get a good selection. Half a pork pie and half a sausage roll!! As for the cakes well I can only describe them as ‘where are they’. We booked here because my daughter was coming who eats quite healthily and your menu for the child’s afternoon tea read ‘carrot & cucumber sticks, Pom bears’ none of which were present. Therefore she just had a half a cheese sandwich and half a jam sandwich which she didn’t like and 2 cherry tomatoes cut in half and 2 ready made cakes. Which she got to decorate herself. When we came to pay we were told the child’s was £9.95 when on the web site it quite clearly said £6.95. I think £7 for a sandwich for a 2 year old is extortionate but £10 - well lost for words !! I felt extremely rushed too. The fizz was a nice touch but by one of the only ones. I would not visit again, I would have rather spent the money on an actual meal

Our first visit today attracted by the idea of sitting by the lake in the sunshine and we will definitely return. Yes our sandwiches were £6 each, but the bread was chunky and delicious, they were full of big tasty pieces of chicken and served with a generous pile of crisps and a lovely fresh salad. Staff were lovely and service was very quick. We sat outside surrounded by flowers and had a delightful walk around the lake inspecting the fairy houses afterwards.

The food was lovely, it was well worth the money. Both me and my partner enjoyed our time there thoroughly, because the staff were friendly and approachable, and the whole place is very well run and organised. There's a fairy trail just outside of the cafe, brilliant for when you have eaten too much and you can take a stroll through and spot all the lovely characters hidden amongst the trees.

Just come back from having afternoon tea for my wife’s birthday. The service was exemplary nothing was too much trouble. The food was just enough even though when first came looked small. Would give liked more sandwiches instead of pork pie and sausage rolls but that’s a small criticism.

Have been to this cafe on quite a few occasions. This time we had coffee and cakes it came to over twelve pounds, the portions were tiny my husband had a lemon tart and It was literally a slither my berry cake was no bigger we could have both eaten another portion. We were very disappointed as we felt it was very poor value for money and are not keen to go again which is a shame as it is a lovely setting.

Lovely setting. Ample seating both indoors and outside on the decking, Excellent selection of food but service is very slow, and prices are very high. After eating and drinking there is a lovely walk round the lake, with plenty to interest the children, some lovely themes. As said, prices are rather high for a garden centre restaurant, and this makes for an occasional visit only. Three stars only because of slow service and high prices. The staff are excellent.

Visited this lovely venue last week for my daughter's birthday. Found it incredible that at 2.30 they had no scones left or Victoria sandwich cake. We ordered cups of tea and waited 30 minutes to be served.

We went to Wheat & Sons garden centre to browse around to see what new stock they had in. After making a few purchases, we decided to have coffee in the Waterside cafe there. It was spacious, well laid out, very clean, with a pleasant view over the garden centre. Sadly it was too wet to sit outside. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble for them. They had a wonderful choice of gateaux, and we had a couple of different ones with our coffees. It was all very well presented, and was delicious. It was very relaxing to sit and enjoy them. We will definitely visit there again.

Lunch. Only really have full meals and no snacks. Partner had cheese and red onion sandwich. Ready sliced bread, and filling was a mixture bound with mayo. No indication on menu of this. Expensive for what it was. My apple pie was a bought in one. They don't know how to make macchiato- I got a shot topped off with foam. Lovely setting but need to do better.

I have used the garden centre a number of times in the past due to the quality of the plants etc but haven't been for sometime. At a loose end one morning we decided to try out the new coffee shop we had heard about.

Very nice breakfast and setting although quite expensive. Everywhere seemed to be reserved so we ate outside. Daughter wanted scrambled eggs but waitress said only fried eggs available. I said but if you’ve still got eggs all you do is scramble them but she said sorry. That actually cheered me up and made my morning. Breakfast was nice. Great setting.

Found a table after waiting 10 minutes only to be told too late for breakfast and too early for lunch. Couldn't even get a sandwich. The place itself looks really nice, and menu looks ok but something could be done about the change over in the kitchen, even if only sandwiches were made available. We had travelled quite a long way and looking forward to a nice breakfast.

I came in today with a friend for a quick drink and I wasn’t sure on what to get as I didn’t want to go for my basic drink the caramel frappe. But, I was greeted by the woman at the till whose name I think was Clair and she provided great customer service and helped me choose out a drink asking me what my preferences where. She was so sweet :)

Greeted by Gemma in a friendly welcoming manner even though we were a little early for lunch. Georgie served us and took our order and was sensitive to my allergies. Both of the staff were super even when the restaurant got busier.

Food was really poor, Cardboard chips and the jacket potato was very dry, both meals were cold just not nice at all. Service wasn’t good either, practically threw our food at us and wasn’t very welcoming, the app says order at the table when we tried it charged us extra for drink even though they were free? I wouldn’t ever return!
