Very disappointing afternoon tea. The sandwiches were very poor, it would be better to describe them as just bread with little or no fillings! and cake selection"shop bought" style. I have been here previously and had a wonderful selection so extra disappointed as I brought 2 friends with me on my recommendation so embarrassing for me. Even more worrying is the fact that I contacted the hotel with accompanying photos and over 36 hours later have not even received a reply. The lack of customer service is disappointing and reading other reviews it seems like they just don't care. I have attached photos and include the ones from 2 years ago to show how good it used to be, so disappointing.

Not good. Service was poor, waited nearly an hour for food and they didn’t have many of the things on the menu on a Saturday evening. It seemed that several other customers sitting near us were frustrated too. The food when it came wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. Shame as restaurant is in a lovely location and looks nice. I wouldn’t go back until the reviews are consistently good. Unfortunately I would not recommend the place anymore.

The food is very good, and would highly recommend the Crusted Rack of Lamb Duo .. Our stay and dining experience was made extra special by the service that Rishi gave, he was extremely attentive and showed top class customer service skills. After deciding a little late to book Christmas away, we had little choice of venues and booked a garden room at Frensham Ponds Hotel. I then read the reviews and wondered just what we had let ourselves in for. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and directed to our garden room which was self contained and overlooked the lawn and accessed from outside. The room was comfortable and in excellent decorative order with some nice touches, a good shower in a modern shower room and a very comfortable supportive, but not hard, bed. The main part of the hotel was again in excellent order with an Indian theme that was not overstated. We slept very well and the garden room was quiet and private. As this was the Christmas package, all meals were included. Christmas Eve was a Pre ordered meal and was well presented, hot and tasty with a singer laid on for entertainment. The following morning we were presented with the usual choice of continental or English breakfast. We chose the latter which I have to say was easily the best buffet full English I've ever had. Everything was hot and tasty and despite being kept warm was just like it was cooked to order 10/10 There were other choices of fruit and cereal as well as the usual juices, toast, tea and coffee. Danish pastries were provided and were also excellent. Christmas lunch was as expected with well cooked Turkey and veggies. Boxing Day roast was even better with lovely roasties and home made horseradish sauce that had just the right amount of heat. Christmas Day and Boxing Day evening had a buffet with a choice of dishes all of which were up to the same high standard. An excellent singer provided the entertainment for Boxing Day evening. Throughout, the ample staff were professional, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The bar area was pleasant with a log fire and an atmosphere of relaxed un-fussed comfort was present throughout. Everywhere was immaculately cleaned, colourful and in good order with various different seating areas for guests. Reception staff were friendly and helpful with local knowledge and suggestions of places to visit. Overall I cannot think of much that could have been improved apart from perhaps making the dining room a little more cosy (difficult with a multi-function room under the circumstances) and a small patch of paving that had become loose on the way to the garden rooms. Whatever made people give a poor review seems, from our view, to have been addressed completely.

Absolutely terrible experience. I booked a table for 8 people a month or so in advance to celebrate after our wedding and when we showed up we were taken to a table of 4 and nothing had been set up for our booking. We then asked to move outside and they left us sat waiting for 15 minutes to move tables together without so much as offering us a menu or a drink. Eventually we went inside to complain and were informed they were busy dealing with suppliers so we’d need to wait. Absolutely zero apology or acknowledgement of the poor service and they knew at this point is was a wedding lunch. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful setting but recommend the Bel and Dragon Churt down the road instead.

Just returned from meal with friends at The Watermark. Not quite sure what to write as I’m still in shock. Had we driven rather than paid for a taxi we’d have turned around upon arrival. The reality of decor is entirely different to that shown on the website- what is portrayed as an elegant modern restaurant with tablecloths etc is not the reality- I can only describe the restaurant as commercial hospitality with cheap tables & zero atmosphere. Cocktails were awful & sent back. Barman needs training. If you’re going to offer them, know how to mix them. Food - concerning that waiters haven’t tried all the menu so advice not available. Serious concerns following cocktail experience & had we had car we’d have left. Expectations over food were very low so when it did arrive we were pleasantly surprised. However, it was a arrange at best & incredibly over priced! Over-salted risotto & steaks. Presentation nothing like the photos on website which is misleading to say the least. I cannot express how disappointed I feel - the menu & photos on website are nothing like the reality. It needs a complete overhaul. Perhaps visit the Giggling Squid, Botanist, Bel & Dragon, Mercure Farnham Bush Hotel to see how it should be done…

Don't know where to start. Garden room (staff called it a suite but it is not like any suite I know). Good to have a patio with seats under cover. Good size room with comfortable bed and good shower but ... drain for basin and shower not draining quickly, broken gutter outside the room with water pouring onto concrete waking us up several times at night. Service in the restaurant was glacially slow and the food pretty average. Staff seemed disinterested and cool towards customers. Poorly trained staff - ordered rose wine and Malbec, delivered white wine and Merlot in thick glass wine glass with a chip and wine spilt onto the base. Bar staff much warmer and more efficient with tasty bar food well presented. Spa not included in the, not cheap, room price. Breakfast standard buffet fare and no fresh fruit.

Definitely recommended for a very relaxing and peaceful getaway. The views are stunning and there are forest walks that are scenic and lush. The hotel rooms are big, the beds are comfortable, and the showers are modern and great. Would definitely recommend the food which was really tasty and good size portions. We were not disappointed at all and often the food exceeded expectations. Staff were friendly and in particular Darren, the restaurant manager, was very helpful and attentive to everyone.

Had lunch as part of 1/2 day Spa experience which is included. The Spa is excellent but the restaurant is literally embarrassingly awful! A rip off considering the package costs £130. The room, tables and the windows were borderline filthy, tired tables and chairs, no curtains, no decor, no ambiance and listening to the sound of a blaring radio with adverts. Was served a small warm glass of pinot Grigio in a filthy glass and had to pay £4.50 for it. To top it all, there was an annoying blue bottle fly flying around the room. Yuk! Not sure what's happened there but the website photos of the restaurant are no reflection of the sad reality. Yes the food was adequate but far from special. It is just not enough to be complacent due to the prime location of the place overlooking the Great Pond, it was just a mere consolation that day and I could not wait to get out and enjoy my walk afterwards.

Restaurant has taken good note of the Covid restrictions, so ideal location to share Sunday lunch with my elderly father. Happy memory of our wedding reception right here 50 years ago. Not many people, and room spartan due to restrictions - but view over the Pond always special. Service good (waiter should wear his mask over his nose). Limited menu. Recommend chicken breast (well flavoured) & Three-cheese filo wrap; great extra vegetables. Rating reflects obvious care taken in Virus situation, better than most we have seen.

A business lunch in a hotel restaurant (not much atmosphere) but where staff were attentive but not intrusive. The service was efficient and friendly. The bread rolls were warmed, a nice touch and came with butter or olive oil/balsamic. Chicken liver parfait was light & really delicious as was the chorizo & mushrooms served in a pastry case and the brie with onion mamaralde also in pastry. Slight disappointment was the trout and salad. Too much salad, little fish. Mains of lamb shank, best for ages, ribeye - nicely chargrilled with great chips, belly pork which was tender and so rich it could have done with something other than sweetcorn to cut the richness. Followed by piping hot coffeess, we all agreed an historic business lunch. We will use this beautiful setting in future. Overlooking the 'pond' with beautiful gardens and a sandy beach nearby, recommended.

I had several meals in the restaurant over the period of my stay. Half way into the stay the menue changed to A La Carte. In my view this was a big improvement. The food was well prepared and served. The menue gave a good variety of options and the prices were reasonable. The staff do all they can to make sure you have a good meal but do think it would be better if a side dish of veg was included with the meal rather than dishes being extra. These side dishes can turn it quickly into an expensive meal. One of the faults of the restuarant is if it is used for a large group the noise level tends to be very high due to the design of the restuarant. When it is all being used is a big area with nothing to contain the noise. It is worth having breakfast in the restuarant with its beautiful view over the pond and again attentive service. A good choice of hot and cold food to start the day off on a good note. It is a pity that after having a meal at night and going to the bar area it was not always very warm. Great when the log fire is alight but cold if it is not..While the hotel does do bar meals it is a little limited and the menue certainly needs updating. This is important if staying in the hotel overnight for several nights.as after 10pm you can only get two hot dishes or sandwiches. The restaurant closes for orders at 9pm and if one has been out all day does make a meal a rush, but it is cerainly worth trying to get back in time to eat in the restaurant.Graham

I cannot wait to return to it in the summer for dinner. The food is of verry good quality and is well cooked and presented. Meals are always hot including the plate!! The staff are very attentitive but not obtrusive. It is good as they offer both two and three course meals as the main course is very filling. It was good to see that a wide selection of reasonable priced wines were on offer and very important for me being a sole traveller a good selection of quality wines by the glass. Unlike some restuarants, on a cold winters night it was nice and cosy, and really enjoyed me meal. The restuarant has that WOW factors as soon as you are greeted and shown to your table which is well set and looks attractive. It really looks as if care has been taken.I only have one small complaint. I stayed for a long time and it is the same menue every night. It is a pity no CHEF SPECIAL is on offer, but if staying for just two nights the menue provides a good choice. It was pleased to find that staff knew, or found out for me, if a dish contained nuts.

Beautiful setting by Frensham Pond, and table with superb view. That's the good bit. When I arrived the entrance was deserted apart from a couple of staff behind the desk. There were workmen everywhere and I had to question of the hotel was open. There were cupboards full of tools, paints and drills on the floor. The bar counter was covered in a dust sheet while they painted the walls. There was banging and hammering. The ladies toilet door wasn't finished. The steps hadn't been finished and there was plaster dust all around. Not really what one expects entering a hotel. The gardens were a job in progress too.We had a lovely table for lunch with a great view of the lake. We were the only diners. The "fizzy" drinks were flat as the electricity was switched off. The starteds were quite tasty and well-presented, but my pork belly was 95% fat.I won't be rushing back, and sadly won't be able to give a good account to others. What a shame.

I really enjoyed having lunch at this restaurant. The food was very good, everything that should have been hot was and served fresh. The service was excellent and value for money quite surprising, with a three course meal costing £15.50 it was a real treat. My main course of beef was served with four different types of fresh vegetables including asparagus, so the price is exceptional for the quality of food. The setting is beautiful, we had booked a window table so that we could watch the ducks etc. on the lake. A swan with her cygnets provided a lot of entertainment for the whole period. The restaurant itself has a quiet elegance and charm, the tables are all laid with white linen, silverware and fresh flowers. Yesterday the tables were laid with pink roses which looked beautiful. It had been many years since I had visited the hotel, but I think I will be returning far more often for lunch or afternoon tea just to treat myself. I do recommend booking a window seat.

Very good service and compliments to chefs.

We stopped here for lunch, or rather attempted to have lunch here. We pulled up in the car park just before 2.10 and knew we would probably have to order lunch before 2.30, so rushed in to order immediately. No-one at the bar. We rang the bell, as directed by the little sign and no-one arrived. We waited several minutes - the place was almost empty with one couple outside and two tables in the restaurant. I went to reception at 2.19 to inquire whether they served non-residents and was assured that they do. I then requested to order lunch and was told as it was nearly 2.30 and they were busy, that this was not possible. So, they stop serving at nearly 2.30 and 2.19 qualifies as nearly. I asked if we could just order sandwiches was was advised that "I suppose that would be ok". We decided against based on that response. The staff were utterly disinterested, and believe me, it looked as if they needed the custom. It was, to be honest tired and shabby looking in many ways, especially the outdoor seating. And judging from the menu, it was not cheap. I would never, never return there as any business so utterly disinterested in customers and potential customers, deserves to go under.
