Waterloo Bar in Edinburgh, City of

TRAGIC Had a long day fighting the crowds in Edinburgh & we fancied a dram of Whiskey to make our trip to Scotland official. The place was dead but we really needed a sit down. I asked the lady behind the bar (she was not English) what Whiskey did she recommend & she brought over Dissarano so i just pointed to a bottle i recognised & asked for 2 which she tried to put in the same glass! It was cold, dingy & just not very nice. No need to revisit ever

The bartender was very rude. Never saw anything like that. When I went with my family, my father wanted to try some nice scotch, a customer that was at the bar got a dose of his favourite one to my father, and he paid for it. He got one for himself as well, paid for both. So the bartender tried to make me pay for the 2 doses again. Saying that we were 4 people and that we needed to order more drinks. He was literally forcing me to buy more doses. He has been very rude. It didn't make any sense . The worst pub I've ever been. The pub was empty, I was wondering why when we came in, because it's situated in a very touristic location... Now we know the reason. Do not recommend it at all.

Stale guiness and I am glad I didn't order a full pint. The most expensive one I've had in 3 countries. Don't recommend it.

Cute place but we spent 40 quid on one beer and 2 small portions of fish and chips. The fish was literally raw and one of the reviews said they got food poisoning so we figured it was worth 40 quid to walk away and NOT get food poisoning. Plus the bartender was coughing so bad he would go into a fit and then hack up a lung. After the 4th time, I could not eat there! I really wanted to love it but just NO!

Wouldn't recommend!! Musty smell and absolutely dead atmosphere. It was OK until a couple came in asking if there was a fire in the pub to warm up by (totally reasonable question, but there isn't one in this pub) and the guy behind the bar was pretty rude to them. When they asked if they knew anywhere nearby that had one be just replied "walk around" and had a bit of an attitude towards them. I didn't finish my drink because it tasted diluted and the smell of the pub was very off-putting. Hostile vibe, expensive drinks, rude staff, and don't even try going to the bathroom. 🤢

Stopped in with my partner, ordered some of their bar snacks, however their chicken skewers have given me food poisoning. Avoid the chicken dishes!!!!

Great for a quiet drink before getting bus home

Toilet Paper Police On Site My daughter & I went in to the pub. Before we sat down we went to use the toilet as we both had bursting bladders. There was a sign saying "customers only" but we couldn't wait until we ordered & went in. When we came out this man raced over to us & started ranting/raving that we couldn't use the toilet it was for customers only. I explained that I needed to relieve myself before I could look at ordering but he continued to berate us. I then said since we didn't feel welcomed we would just leave & he told us to go. As we left he continued yelling at us that he couldn't afford toilet paper for his paying customers. TIP: if you are struggling financially don't send potential customers packing!!!

Yes it was nice and quite chinese barmen nice chap .Place needs a good refurbish but its okay if you want a quite drink without anybody bothering you .

It's OK, was very quiet which is a nice escape from the crowds but still central.

Lived in or around Edinburgh most of my life and I never knew this wee pub was there. Handy watering hole while waiting on buses. Good pint.

Staff was really kind and accommodating, happy to help me and my boyfriend with anything we wanted

Definitely a "traditional old worlde bar"smelled old and smoky but pouring with rain any bar is a good bar! 🍺

Small pub but very welcoming, good service and good location for Princes Street

My husband and I escaped to this small pub after being around the huge crowd the day they brought the queen to St. Giles. Wonderful fish and chips and drinks!

Staff friendly can do with up dateing

Friendly barman. The area inside for drinking was small but cosy. £4.60 for a pint of Fosters lager. Went to the Chinese restaurant next door, don't know if it's run by the same people,but it was closed at 9.45pm on a Friday night so i've given 4 stars instead of 5.

A Basic Bar what you see is what you get, good staff, cheap drinks. Not setup for food, but if you are on a tight budget this is the place for you.

Nice & cosy wee bar slightly across from the train station. Outside seating too!

Gorgeous chow mein and salt and chilli chips, great deals with a half pint, good portion size and friendly and attentive staff, had a great time

Excellent music session with Alan Hunter this Friday night and I think he's there Saturdays too.

Small, cozy, and excellent small bites

Would rate 0 if i could. Extremely rude asian man at the bar who makes you feel unwelcome. Also drinks are expensive. Avoid this bar and go somewhere nicer.

Visited on a Saturday night, very helpful, friendly staff and the 80 shilling beer was excellent. Entertainment was provided after 9, a very good guitar player with a very large repertoire of songs to suit any audience. Unlike other venues in the area it's not in the least pretentious. Would recommend this bar for a nice, qiet and entertaining evening.

Beware the half pint bump! £2.60 for half a Kronenburg, £4.60 a pint. That’s not the way we do things up here 🤨

Disgraceful. Husbands beer glass not cleaned properly. My bacardi and coke was awful. No cola flavour and no fizz as if it had been watered down. No slice of lemon offered. Dismal little pub and to think it is in the centre of our beautiful capital city. On the plus side the toilets are immaculate and freshly decorated.

Entertainment in a Saturday is still in the classic vein.

Decent enough place for a drink while waiting for the train, no huge queues, just off Princess Street. What more can you ask for?

The pub was small and cosy , the food came from the Chinese next door not even a hatch the lady walk out of the Chinese into the pub with our meals and it very greasy fish not cooked enough.

Fell outside bar came in bleeding was not allowed to use bathroom to wash hands as not a customer only had 50p was told tough min item £1 get out!! Disgusting

The best chinese Guinness in town. Live music with soul and easy going atmosphere. You meet the originals.
