We had an excellent stay here when we were attending a wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn. The rooms were spacious, clean with a great shower. Breakfast was excellent with cereals, yogurt, fruit and a choice of different hot meals. 5 minutes walk from the wedding venue, so perfect for us. Highly recommended

A home from home. For the past 6 years, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting The Waggon and Horses. The staff are attentive and the food is always incredible. We have celebrated achievements, birthdays and casual Friday afternoons here and I’m sure we’ll celebrate much more! One of Cheshire's treasures.

We went here for a family meal and it's a lovely pub in a lovely setting. They had a decent beer on (Robinsons) which was a bonus, I wish I could say the same about the food. The first meal we ordered had to be rethought out ,as they came back and said they had no chicken burger, another meal then had to be changed as they had no chicken. My partner had the steak and ale pie and thought it was quite bland, and someone else ordered the salmon with rice, which was really dry. A disappointing birthday meal.

We've just had a lovely lunch at the Waggon and Horses. Dani and Jill were extremely kind, helpful and friendly. We only live 2 mins down the road and have never been before, but we will definitely return.

I took my mum for a Sunday roast on Mother’s Day. The food was lovely and the portion size was really good for the price. Also can’t fault any of the staff. They were all really pleasant and helpful. Definitely recommend and will be going again soon. X

Great food with fantastic service. We attended on a Friday evening with friends. To food was to a good standard and reasonably priced for the quality of the food. The thing that stood out most was the service, the friendliness of staff and the fact that they went out of their way to make sure we had a great evening. There had been a recent menu change from winter to spring menu and my friend’s favourite dishes had been removed. My friend told the staff that she was gutted her favourites had been removed and the very kindly offered to make both dishes especially for her. There are not many restaurants that would go off menu at all, let alone to that extent but they were happy to do it. Thanks for a lovely evening

It was spur of the moment that we went for a late ish lunch. We had fish n chips, garden Peas and Tartare sauce. My goodness it was absolutely delicious. The batter just melted in your mouth fish was amazing. The chips were just perfect crispy and fluffy inside. Peas that just tasted like peas. We definitely will be eating there again 💯 absolutely fantastic

Awful room, broken facilities, and unbearable road noise, even with ear plugs. No response from staff. Rubbish.

We stopped by here for lunch today. we didn't stay in the rooms but if the rooms however if the space in the restaurant was anything to go by the place was immaculate. Clean. Tidy. Dust free. A warm welcome from our host who saw us too a table and continued to look after us all afternoon. A lovely outing. The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the vegan sweet chilli stir-fry and it was phenomenal. Thanks so much.

Terrible service!! I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this pub. Despite it being a Sunday with many empty tables (we were a group of 4 people - not a large one), we were told initially that no walk-ins were accepted. After some persistence, we were told we’d need to wait about 30 minutes, which we did patiently. However, when our wait was up, we were informed that the kitchen was at full capacity, and we’d have to wait another hour for food. The service throughout this ordeal was shockingly bad, with waitresses being rude and completely unaccommodating. This level of unprofessionalism and poor communication is unacceptable. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We have only recently moved to Congleton. We had found the Waggon & Horses during previous trips here and always found the establishment and the staff just fantastic. Tonight, we were served by Adam, Danny & Maddie again and as ever, their attention to customers is faultless and they always make us feel so welcomed. The food by the way, has never failed to impress. I can’t recommend this place enough, it’s great.

Excellent rooms and the restaurant is really great too. A special mention for the outstanding staff. Really friendly, helpful and courteous. After a further stay. I have to say that the place is even better. The new, cooked breakfast inclusion is fantastic. The service is still unbelievably good, too.

Called today for the first time and last time.. had the goats cheese and fig tart. I couldn't believe my eyes, never before have i seen anything like it. Two small very hard pastry cases(obvious bought in). Chopped with what was supposed to be figs on the bottom and about half a dozen small cubes of goats cheese, what would fit on a teaspoon. No cooking involved. Disgusting. I complained and was offered something else, i chose scampi much to my regret. Every piece was the same size and shape hard outer and hollow with not much inside. We were in and out within 45 mins. Food came out that quick. Months later after being told they would get in touch I am still waiting. We will certainly not be calling again or recommending you.

We had a very enjoyable meal this afternoon. The steak and ale pie and fish and chips were very good indeed. Service and environment very good too. We'll be back.

We called ahead to check if they had enough vegan options in stock, and they said they did. Didn't have any vegan sweet chilli at all, so we ordered vegan lamb koftas as replacement. They brought three koftas instead of the four we asked for, then we were told they were out of koftas, so we ordered one round of chunky chips as a rwplacemt. They brought us fries. Total disaster, waiters/waitresses were nice and apologetic about it.

Beautiful country pub situated on the A54 near Holmes Chapel. Easy check in with a friendly welcome from the manageress. I found my room to be very clean and functional. Shower was amazing! Plenty of towels, fridge, smart flat screen tv, light up mirror, tea/coffee facilities with fresh milk, three pins and usb charge points, blinds and curtains, towel rail and heater, comfy chair and a double bed with ample pillows all made for a very comfortable stay. It is situated on a main trunking road (A54), but I still had a lovely sleep, wearing ear plugs. The only thing that let it down was not having a cooked breakfast in the morning, however a continental breakfast is delivered the evening before. I found the staff to be very accommodating in regard to my allergies and food preferences. Food portions were perfect and very tasty with plenty of choice on the menu at the right price point. I forgot my phone charger and the staff were very kind in allowing me to borrow one of their chargers in order to charge my phone. Have booked to stay there again whilst working in the area. All in all a lovely stay, thank you 😊👍

Returned for unplanned lunch today. Food was excellent. Piping hot. Had the club sandwich with the healthier option of a mug of the soup of the day. Love this idea. Highly recommend to anyone following well known food plan SW. Cheese and Onion pie with skinny fries and peas was excellent too. All round excellent welcome from staff. Gill was excellent advising us with food choices. Thank you Gill.

I had booked the Wagon and horses very last min for my sons 18th birthday and the service I had received was amazing. Nothing was to much trouble from communication on the phone with Demi. To friendly services from Adam, Danni and Olivia. A huge Thank you to the chef Hannah all 16 meals came out on time hot and all tasted amazing. Would definitely recommend wagon and horses to anyone looking to eat or even have a drink its a lovely pub myself and the rest of the party will definitely be returning.

My first time coming here and what and amazing experience it was! Amazing food, fantastic service and an overall wonderful experience. Special mention to Jack who was ever so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this pub to everyone and anyone.

We travelled for over an hour to come back to this restaurant as it was so good the first time we came & as we imagined, it surpassed our expectations. The staff were absolutely brilliant & the food is delicious. Highly recommend this place.

We stayed here for our friends wedding. What a great loacation, room was delightful. Lovely breakfast cooked by Hannah who i believe is the head chef. We shall definitely be back to try more of the menu ! Thankyou to all the staff.

The decor of the pub creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are excellent and the quality of the food is high.

We visited last week as family were staying at the pub and we were getting married across the road at Sandhole Oak Barn (conveniently located). Although there was a big crowd of us, the staff were amazing, food was prompt (and delightful) and nothing seemed too much for the staff working on the day/ night. Some of the party were there from 2pm through until close and everyone’s reviews were positive! Would highly recommend to anyone who is in the area for either food or drinks! (As we didn’t stay on site, I can’t first hand comment on the rooms but from what I’ve heard they were just as great!)

Came here for sunday lunch after a viewing the area. Lovely atmosphere, food was amazing and well priced and even with 8 of us it wasn't a long wait or too expensive. Only complaint is we live too far to visit again without being in area

We came last night to celebrate our anniversary, and as always the food was incredible, staff were so attentive and the atmosphere is always so amazing!

Superb rump steak the best I've tasted in a long time, hubby enjoyed a huge and very thick gammon steak. Service is excellent really enjoyed our visit today after Christmas shopping.

Terrible “continental” breakfast to be eaten in the bedroom! Left outside room the night before in a wooden box so orange juice, milk and yoghurts were all warm. Pre wrapped croissants and a minuscule amount of milk which was barely enough for 2 cereals so none left for a cuppa. This is not what I would call a continental breakfast and not part of the treat of having a night in a B&B, we expected to go across to the pub where we could have chosen from a tempting selection of continental type breakfast food. If you just want a comfy bed and a clean bedroom for a night away from home then this place fits the bill, but, if you want anything approaching a half decent breakfast sat at a proper table then don’t bother going here, so disappointing and not entirely sure about food regulations with food that should be chilled in a fridge being left out all night.

A pleasant lunch with family while grandson on holiday from school

Overnight stay room very hot no fan, Road noise windows not great can hear everything delivery van parked outside around 7am filling gas. No remote in room for TV. Ordered 2 breakfasts only one delivered considering the pub served homemade meals breakfast consisted of shop bought croissant very disappointing. No staff on site so unable to check out until gone 10am or bring any issues to their attention. Email sent but as of yet no reply. Email sent 19/07 resent today still no reply. Just to update this company really doesn’t care about your stay 13/08/24 still no reply to emails sent if you are thinking of booking to attend a wedding nearby stay somewhere else you can’t walk back of a night no lights or pathway.

Since I last posted some time ago, when newly opened, we have had a recent poor experience. Went in Friday night early doors - 5.00 pm just three of us, on if us being vegetarian. The one decent meal on the menu was not available as the kitchen had run out ! At 5.00pm on a Friday night that doesn't bode well for the rest of the evening and indeed the weekend.!!! Asked about a simple pasta dish , but as all meals are now bought in then there wasn't that alternative and presumably the "chef?" didn't have or didnt want to help us out, so resorted to a soup and bowl of chips. As one of the three was celebrating a birthday it put a downer on the rest of the meal.Hopefully Robinsons will take note from the Plough and have a seperate menu that caters for a wider choice of visitor.Also now there seems to be a need for more maintenance etc. Toilet seat in the ladies has been broken for at least two weeks abd other niggles beginning to creep in .

The room was clean and comfortable unfortunately it was right next to a main road and very noisy fortunately I carry ear plugs so wasn't as much of an issue.

The rooms were clean & nicely decorated. They are also spacious. Unfortunately it was very noisy, we had to have the window open as it was so hot & there was no fan in the room but the road outside is very busy. It wasn’t much better with the windows closed. The breakfast was the main let down for us. It specified an included continental breakfast, however this is something you order & is delivered to your room the night before. It’s very small & everything is in packets (nothing continental about it). There’s nowhere to eat it in your room either. The next day we were out at a wedding most of the day (we had mentioned this on check in) so as a consequence we didn’t get breakfast on our 2nd morning. No one had been to clear the breakfast dishes from the day before or left a new order form, the pub doesn’t open until 12pm so there wasn’t even anyone around to ask. Very much lacking effort. I feel it would be vastly improved if you offered a fresh breakfast inside the pub.

Stopped off here for food last night on our way to Manchester. The waiter seemed very confused when he asked if we'd booked and we said no, he looked around at a very empty pub confused about if he'd got a table he could sit us at. He was also confused about drinks to, and just kept repeating "it's all in the drink menu" Husband had a lovely burger, we did ask for no coleslaw due to allergies, which we weren't asked about, but it came in a bowl and not on the burger. I had the salmon. The salmon was lovely as was the warm pea salad but what threw me was the potato. I was expecting a few crushed seasoned, even buttered, new potatoes, what I got was 4 tubes of potato, like frozen mashed potato tubes, they were a bit weird tbh. No need for the balsamic either, didn't go with anything on the plate.

Stayed one night for a wedding over the road. Wish I never stayed. I phoned ahead of our visit To see if I could book in early as the wedding was 1:30. We were told could not book in until 3pm. I also informed them I was disabled and needed to set up medical equipment and they still didn’t accommodate us. The noise from the constant traffic kept us awake all night. The bathroom had toothpaste down the sink a pee stains on the wall. Wish I had took pictures. We were put on the first floor so I had to climb stairs. We had to leave the wedding missing speeches and cutting the cake. Come to book in we were told to join the queue of people waiting to dine. We were handed a leaflet containing breakfast details but we didn’t read it due to rushing to get back to the wedding. Hence we didn’t get a breakfast. I would have kicked off but my husband paid the bill. I would stay clear if you book and want to cancel make sure you do it within 14 days as you won’t get your money back. Not worth £128 room only.

What can I say well I was very disappointed came here today for lunch for a birthday lunch and waited over 1.5 hours for food to come which never came waitress came over and said I have lost you're order and had to take again still no food came half an hour later then they charged for our drinks felt really insulted, if I could give 0 instead of one star I would, the staff don't have a clue what there doing, won't be coming back I since have had an email from a manager to email in which I have contacted them and after 3 days I haven't had a reply, just shows you how incompetent this place is!!

Very poor service, we pre booked for food, placed our order and waited....40 mins later we asked about our order and they said sorry, they must have lost it. Placed order again, waited another 40 mins before asking the waitress who went and checked and came back, looked embarrased and said they'd get it sorted. We gave up at that point and went up the Davenport Arms instead which was superb. No apology at all from Waggon and Horses, didn't seem to care. Avoid.

4 STARS for our one night stay. The room (6) was lovely, newly decorated and very cosy! We stayed on a Saturday night, all the rooms were fully booked by wedding guests in the local area? The noise late at night was a slight issue as you could hear people opening and closing the main door and coming up the stairs. The windows to the rooms are not double glazed, again, you can hear the cars driving past and people talking outside. We had everything we needed in the room, en-suite with a shower, large tv, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities… but NO cups/mugs to make a brew in. We didn’t sleep very well and needed a coffee to kick start us before our journey home! I loved the continental breakfast!! and the box it was delivered in. Sadly, only 3 STARS for the meal we had in the restaurant. The food looked delicious - plenty to choose from off the menu. I was really disappointed with the ‘Hunters Chicken’ it was like eating rubber and the cheese on top wasn’t melted it looked like plastic cheese. Also, the fries on the side had a ridiculous amount of salt on them! It wasn’t very enjoyable :( That being said, we will return to stay and dine again. We loved the room, layout, decor it felt very homely.

Went to the Waggon and Horses tonight for dinner for my wife's birthday and we had an amazing visit. Matt and Kyle looked after us exceptionally well and were very attentitive to everything we needed. Service was excellent, food was fantastic and the cake I dropped off was well presented to us. Thoroughly recommend and will be returning again, 5 🌟

Been a couple of times recently and everything has been fantastic.

Generally very good, however if the menu is telling you what is on offer you should get it when ordered, unfortunately this wasn’t the case on this occasion. Disappointing..

Excellent service, with 2 coeliacs in my group, every one was very helpful and accommodating, had no issues with the meal and was presented with a good choice. This despite their disclosure on the menu of not guaranteeing cross contamination in the kitchen. Meals were excellent and staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Road noise not ideal, windows single glazed and draughty so noise gets in. Our room looked like it had a botched repair on the wall where something was leaking through. This was unnoticed until the dampness plus reasonably fresh paint transferred onto my partners coat and ruined it requiring her to wear it to a wedding with stains on and needing dry cleaning. Overal everything else with the room was a reasonably good standard. Location was good for a wedding at the barn over the road however not ideal as it is very close but the road to get to It is not safe to walk. Pub was good, and food was good if not a little pricey. Good selection of food and drinks.

We came on a bank holiday Monday and service was great! Gill was particularly helpful and the food was delicious!
