This is a quaint thatched pub that dates back to 1669 I believe. It looks so pretty from the front and doesn't disappoint when entering it. Everywhere you look there is old artifacts and pictures showing its past and history. It almost transports you you to another time and it's magical. Log fires and a very interesting bar with such an array of interesting things I can only urge you to go and see your self. The food is 👌🏻.........we have been a couple of times now and the long drive for us is well worth the lovely food and the ambience of the whole experience. We really like it. Dogs are welcome 😁 inside and there is a covered seating area outside for those warmer days.tgere is a small car park at the back, parking at the front and across the road. The staff are always welcoming, friendly and professional. Accessible for the not so steady on their feet and there are accessible toilets available. All in all it's excellent 👍🏻 value for money in a rustic historic setting in a beautiful part of the world and we love it.

Not remotely friendly or welcoming, £9.50 for a meanly filled baked potato with basic beans & cheese with my pint. Nothing special and should be priced that way. Also no soya milk or coconut milk offered with coffee “because no one buys it, so it all goes off”. Pathetic. I’ve known this pub for decades but it’s amazing how uncaring, lazy and miserable these people are. Get some more professional people in who know how to smile -and do it fast.

Not at all impressed … no wine list; lamb as tough as old boots as was dauphinoise potatoes and fish cakes with virtually no fish. Tepid water not iced and worst of all felt rushed … closed half an hour before advertised closing time! Not a minute later than 9.30 had to leave the place and was constantly reminded of this deadline ! Positives the lamb gravy and the cream brulee.

Absolutely gorgeous carvery highly recommended, 2 seperate out side seating areas (one upstairs with kids play area/climbing frame and a sheltered one downstairs) can't comment on atmosphere as we had dogs and sat outside did pop in couple of times and it was lovely to look at, all the people I interacted with that didn't work there was very friendly, and the staff were great and just as friendly (carvery <£19 at time of writing)

Was told we could only have a large carvery when due to medical condition i can only eat small amounts so knew i wouldnt eat all the meat being put on my plate, when i asked a member of Staff about this we were told People were paying a price for a small meal yet filling their plates, having saw how some People were 'loading' their plates this then made sense what we were told & due to me knowing i can not eat the large meal is the only reason i will not go back.......on a plus, the Staff were great, the pub is great & the food i did manage to eat was excellent & to those who can eat a big meal i'd fully recommend it

A lovely old English pub, we chose this location to have a family get together and Sunday carvery roast. We are in a room at the front of the property and the setting and decor was traditional and very clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful but just lacked any genuine warmth, possibly because two of our party of eight had been unable to attend at the last moment and they appeared slightly irritated that we had not let them know in advance. In fact I had tried to contact them before we left home, but as it was two hours earlier they weren’t yet open. The food was plentiful and well cooked. There was a choice of three meats and a nut roast for vegans. In our house we season our food so I found it a bit bland, but if you don’t use salt in your cooking it will be fine. Two of our party chose the nut roast and this was probably the biggest disappointment of the selection, as neither nut roast was eaten, suffering from the same lack of flavour as much of the other food. Would we go back? Probably not, but if you don’t touch salt or herbs, this may be very much to your liking.

The restaurant is a very nice, cozy, and quaint spot, perfect for a comfortable dining experience. The eclectic decor adds a unique charm, making it a visually appealing place to enjoy a meal. However, one aspect that detracted from our experience was a server who stomped her feet loudly as she moved between dining rooms. Her heavy steps, akin to concrete, were quite distracting and gave the impression of anger or frustration. It's worth noting that she was nice and efficient, but her loud foot stomping was very distracting. Despite this, the food was excellent—affordable, tasty, and served in more than generous portions. Overall, it's a great place to dine, with just a minor service issue that hopefully gets addressed.

I are à lunch here that I regret not complaining about. Someone else was paying the bill and they did not want me to say anything. I ate fish pie, the description on the menu stated that the ingredients included cod, haddock, salmon and prawns in a parsley sauce topped with mashed potato. In fact the ingredients included some salmon in a white sauce topped with mashed potato. I think this shows a real lack of respect for the customer. I should have said something, but ultimately this shouldn’t happen.

The portion sizes were generous and so a main dish filled us up and fuelled us for our afternoon walk in the countryside. The place is dog friendly and has clearly marked vegetarian and vegan options. There is also a good selection of beers including local ales. We came on a Friday lunch time and it was busy! Reasonably pleasant Easter Sunday carvery but nothing special. Beef was quite chewy but the gammon was nice. Good selection of veg and sauces. The chap carving was a little mean, but it was to be a busy day and I think he may have been preoccupied. Wouldn't sell me a yorkie pud for my veggie wife who was having the risotto, even though only 4 out of the 6 we'd booked for were having the carvery. The serving staff were nice and friendly. £135 for 5 plus a pack up carvery for our poorly relative who was unable to make it.

Unfortunately the rooms in the oldest part of the building are just awful. Very cramped, difficult to reach by very steep stairs, low head height and overcrowded with poor quality furniture. Not even cleaned properly and very cold. Difficult to recommend these rooms to anyone however the rest of the hotel ( newer rooms) such as the dining area was comfortable and pleasant. Food very good and staff very helpful and friendly. My advice would be to avoid the old rooms if you can.

Nice place to go out with or meet up with people. Unfortunately won't be returning due to their high prices £5.10 for a pint of Carling. REALLY???? No disrespect meant but I won't pay that. I'm aware that the owners are now moving onto the Courthouse around the corner. I said in my review of the Courthouse that if your prices is anything to go by, then the chance that I give the Courthouse will be short lived. £5.10 for a pint of Carling is far too much.

Friday night group of six, friendly welcome but the pub was almost empty. Only one draft ale was available and ran out after our first round. Ordered some starters which were meh, overcooked from frozen, main course came out stone cold so had to be sent back. I guess with such a large menu the quality is difficult to maintain when the place is so quiet.
