Volunteer Arms Lounge Bistro in West Lothian

Just found this place out the blue on the way to Glasgow airport. Proper gem. Great place. Lovely lady running it. And real class food. The steak & ale pie was amazing. Thanks.

First time we have eaten at the Volunteer Arms Lounge and certainly won’t be the last. It was the best home cooked food we have had in a long time in a pub. The service was excellent. The girl that served us was extremely friendly and helpful. We were not rushed and had appropriate times between each course to allow us to enjoy our meal. Will certainly eat here again when we visit from Liverpool and my brother & sister-in-law who live nearby will also definitely eat here again.

First visit to this cosy pub and very good impression. Great service, good value and the food was lovely. Have already recommended to family and will pass onto friends who live locally.

So, food was ok, service was great, buuut... Portion size was absolutely shocking.. My daughter & granddaughter had a katsu burger which arrived 10 minutes apart??. The size of these portions were ridiculously small, I had fish and chips, when it arrived I was so taken aback by the small size of the portion I had to take a photo.. With a fork for scale.. The presentation was also pathetic. This photo was exactly as it was served (apart from the fork). We used to like this place but won't be back under this management.

Fantastic Lunch., today the meal was Fantastic, the service was First Class, could not do enough for me, will Definitely go back & Recommend.

Food is great. Been 3 x including a lunch and enjoyed it each time. We booked in advance from their Facebook page and it was simple. Received a call to confirm booking too. Atmosphere is relaxed and great time was had by all 7 of us who went for dinner on the last occasion. Great vegetarian options.

The young lady that served us was very pleasant and the service was excellent but the place was cold and smelt musty. I had to keep my jacket on. I ordered fish but was told that it was off the menu.

First visit to this pub/restaurant and very impressed by both the service and quality of food. Both servers were first class and extremely helpful. Restaurant was quiet but deserves more trade given the overall experience.

New menu and kitchen staff. Really enjoyed my meal and service was impeccable. Last night a special event was held to celebrate their new menu. Place was crowded with happy customers. I read some of the poor reviews from the past. To those posting, try the Volunteer Arms again, you won’t be disappointed.

Food was absolutely terrible roast was tasteless never again and was a regular here but will defo not be back lost good customer

Took my mum for her birthday 🎂, the owners were so kind they gave my mum a lovely card and cake. They also put some banners on and around our wee table for her. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Great service Food is great, good size portions. Definitely worth a wee visit Cocktails are really good too.

Went in for a meal/drink with family saw chasni on special board as dish of the day but was a bit skeptical of ordering it in the bar/bistro but I tell u 1 thing guys me and my wife enjoyed it was better than my local Indian would defo recommend this place. 10/10

Went for dinner on Sunday night with family I must say we were not impressed as many items had seemed to be unavailable we were going to leave and go else were but were settled in and drinks done so we decided go for the lamb curry of the day which I must say cheered me up it was absolutely amazing really lovely flavour I was actually quite surprised then we had steak pie which also was decent so I would say over all food was good service was slow but considering only 1 person running the show

Only the lounge area, which is small and not suitable to have a meal with 6 people, is Dog friendly….The nearby “Tally Ho” is completely DOG FRIENDLY. We were having breakfast and dinner at the “Tally Ho” for 7 days…Please make the place really Dog Friendly…or Dogs “Not Welcome”. Regards Rob van Poecke The Netherlands

Popped in for lunch, beautiful layout, very friendly attentive staff. Good pint of Guinness, best steak pie I have tasted in a long while! Lemon & white chocolate cake delicious. Love the soft seating area, fireplace, tastefully decorated for Christmas. Value for money spot on. Christmas menu very good, sampled that that week with friends. Well worth a visit!

Great place to meet up with friends and family for food and drinks. Staff are top class and made us feel very welcome. We will be back!!

We were staying in a nearby hotel of a few days, never been in this locality before. We saw the Volunteer Arms on Maps, had a look online and liked what we saw. We went to give it a look early afternoon, had a couple of drinks and a nachos starter to share as a nibble. What a lovely place, beautifully decorated for xmas and a very warm welcome. The nachos was a generous portion, was excellent and best we've had for a long long time. So impressed we booked to go back for dinner that evening and we're not disappointed. Same great welcome, really nice staff, and food really good too. There was a quiz night on during the evening and everybody was included and involved, a great atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Helpful staff fitted us in for a Sunday roast. Great value, very tasty & comfortable atmosphere. Won't do carvery again - this place is top of the list from now on. Parked literally at front of pub on the road, no issue. Had lady singing with guitar which was perfect background music, nice touch. Have been back for Saturday Eve tea, same positive experience & we are booked in for Christmas Menu too, can't wait.

Well went with the recommendation for the nights special which was chilli chicken I must say the food was delicious came with Popadoms and rice defo be back for more was best curry I had for a long time!

The Volunteer was my local when I was a girl so I was keen to go back as know it has changed lots over the years. It looks the same but different (if that makes any sense) however had the same friendly feel that it's always had. The food..... amazing! I asked the waitress what she would recommend between a few dishes and she suggested the burritos. They were absolutely delicious, so I was delighted with my choice. 2 of the party had steak and 2 had cheese & bacon burger with a side of mac n cheese. I would say 5 clean plates but there was actually so much food we couldn't finish it all! 4 of us had desert and one had a cocktail. Again, very nice. Overall, we very much enjoyed the food, there was live music too which we really liked, a very talented young lady. I loved and and would highly recommend it.

First visit Def won't be the last!!. Very friendly welcome, cosy decor, excellent service and fabulous huge plate of food!!. Had the steak baguette highly recommended. Definitely well deserved 5 stars*****

We visited after a recommendation, so, glad we did. From the outside, due to its position, you could give it a glance and drive by, "DO Not". It looks fresh, clean and inviting, so it's not that. it's just that its between houses with flats...

I was out in a group of eight. We had an absolutely fantastic evening. The food, wine and service was outstanding. I can't wait to go back and I would highly recommend a visit for the great food or even just a drink.

We stay local and are so glad to have somewhere with great food and drinks (the cocktails are delicious!) nearby. The staff are really friendly and welcoming and it’s great that they do different events for charity, music, quizzes etc.

New management in, and not only have they redone the place, they also clearly have their heart and soul in it. They're very friendly too. Mixture of tables and sofas. Drink costs reasonable, and a good mixture from cocktails to well-kept ale. Didn't eat here,...

Straying down the road we took a short walk and found this hidden diamond. Friendly and helpful staff (Max couldn’t be more welcoming) , gorgeous breakfast and relaxing decor. Will definitely be coming back for future visits.

First time visitors, sorry guys will not be back after todays visit. Chilli con carne was tasteless and mac and cheese was dry.
