Great dog friendly pub, new to the area so first visit. Food was great but very disappointed when we seen the table next to us getting an Eton mess dessert and when we asked for two we were told “no because it takes too long and to order something else” so we just cancelled dessert. Very disappointing.

Dog-friendly, albeit with limited seating areas. Food was okay, large portion sizes. Drinks were lovely, especially the mocktail.

Another great meal at The Grapes. The group commented on enjoying the breaded fish and broccoli and stilton soup. I had salmon and prawns in caper butter with mash, again. Delicious. Great service. Helpful, friendly staff. *Another visit and chicken burger also had good review, this time.

Staying at local caravan park, this pub is less than 10 mins away. accommodated our late booking, staff were really on the ball with service & hospitality. Food was lovely & arrived in good time for a very busy evening.

Been here tonight last minute and they were very welcoming. Food was 5 star ( chef can cook ) The Salmon and King Prawn on mash was absolutely tasty Would highly recommend this place also dogs are welcome which makes this better

First time visiting there with my pal after a walk at Almondell. We had a lovely meal. I had delicious Mac and cheese, also mocktail was really good. Nice decor and friendly staff.

Over priced, city centre pricing for a “village” pub! No atmosphere, as soon as food is stop being served the place is like the Mary Celeste. I once asked a waitress for a few drinks when sitting outside, turns out this waitress was the owner, her reply when I asked was “ I don’t do that”. £7:50 for four chicken wings 🥴

Great place for a beer and to watch the football. The food looks brilliant, and the bar area looks fantastic 👌

Great fish and chips, unfortunately ordered meringues for dessert .Really poor 2 small shop bought with artifical cream and one strawberry £7.25 a rip off!!!

We booked for our twins birthday and invited friends. Only to arrive with no booking. Staff member tried her best given the situation ( thank you) Our service was poor and the waitress shouldn't work in this industry given her attitude and attention to detail/ customer service. We spent over £225 for a poor performance. Not a village pub atmosphere Clearly no front of house or manager around

We had the most amazing meetup at The Graped today for meetup with friends and our 2 dogs. The meetup was hailed a huge success by us 4 people and 2 dogs, and this achievement was due in no small part to the hard work, support and enthusiasm of the fabulous staff at The Old Colliery.

Great place for a Sunday lunch. The staff were very good, friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and there were good choices on the menu.

If your a foodie they will highly disapoint great meat produce but bad chef and no good produce should be served with frozen chips like fast food . Cost wise big price for takeaway produce . They need a chef that can cook properly and sides that match the price tag

The Sunday dinner here was exceptional. We’ve not long moved here and this is the first time we’ve tried it - we’re definitely going to become regular Edit - come back closer to Christmas on a Saturday night and the music was absolutely shocking (really old 1930s, loud Christmas songs on repeat) . My partner asked if this will be the music that’s on all night - we could then hear the member of staff bad mouthing her at the bar “what does she want, pop music especially for her”. Asked the same member of staff for a spoon for her lentil soup to be told to go get it herself from the cutlery (we had no idea where they’re kept, we do now though to be fair). Time to find a new local I think….

Great little pub! Quick service, and cheerful staff. Good pint of Guinness at a reasonable price. Food is very good and reasonably well priced. Good music. Really nothing not to like!

We were staying at the campsite close by, freezing cold temperatures so we wanted somewhere cozy to tuck ourselves into for a few hours. Staff were friendly, busy bar but they managed to squeeze us in. Food lovely, nice menu and good value.

Absolute gem of a place! As soon as we walked through the door we knew this was our kind of pub. Such a friendly atmosphere, attentive and friendly staff and the food is amazing. Sophia was our server and at 17 years of age she was fantastic, very knowledgable and clearly enjoys her job! I opted for the Haggis bon bons to start and wow! Then for mains I had the Fillet Steak Sandwich with skinny fries and my fiancée had the sea bass which was cooked to perfection with crispy skin! With very generous portion sizes and an excellent selection of drinks its just an all round top notch experience 👌 such a shame we live 5 hours away and are only here for work as to have this place as your local would be awesome! 5 stars for every aspect of The Grapes 🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟

Nice place. Not flash but very nice. Country pub atmosphere without being a pub as such. I felt that you might feel a bit uncomfortable if you went for a few beers with mates. You’re close to the diners so you’d have to perhaps show greater consideration than you otherwise might in a traditional pub. The food was nice and reasonable value for money. Staff were courteous and accomodating of alight menus tweaks to suit what you wanted which is nice. Worth a trip.

Had a lovely meal and catch up with a good friend kirsty and the staff were very attentive and accommodating and the plus side it was dog friendly. Could not fault the service

We stopped off here on our family cycle through the country park. Got a great seat by the fire for some drinks and starters. Food was great and tasty. We have been other times for family meals and staff have always given great service. For better sunny days they have a great outside area for drinks/dining, but on the day we were there a fire was needed.

A place that's friendly, clean, with quality food and it has all the local Scottish charm. Dogs are welcomed as well, which is a nice thing.

Great wee bar/restaurant! Had a lovely Sunday afternoon here with our dog (who was spoilt rotten!!). Loads of different sitting accommodation, with an excellent beer garden with even more sitting options!! I think my favourite thing was that the TV (and there was only one!!) was turned off! So nice to find a pub encouraging people to be friends!! The staff were absolutely lovely, very helpful and looked after us perfectly! Just enough attention to get everything in good time, without being overbearing. Basically, perfect!

Really lovely Sunday roast in this pub, refurbished a couple years ago. The food menu is lovely and the cocktails even better if you get a chance to go without the car. It's dog friendly which is amazing and the staff will bring water for your dog and give them a fuss! Really nice place

After a walk in the nearby Almondell country park we went in for some lunch without a booking but they managed to find us a table even though they were getting busy. Food was good and the coffee was excellent. Staff were pleasant and service was good. Will definitely be back again Recommended 👍

I booked a table of 7 for mothers day at the Grapes. From the time we sat down to the departure, the staff were so attentive and helpful, the food was outstanding and the value for money was excellent. Thanks to all the team for making our mothers day lunch a lovely outing!

Nice pub friendly staff very nice food

Last time we were here, I loved it. The pie was wonderful. Shortcrust all around and the chips were homemade, just like my mother made back in the day! However, back again last Saturday, the menu hadn't changed - in print - but it had in what I received. The pie was now what you expect in any run-of-the-mill pub - stew in an enamel dish with a slice of puff pastry on top (not a pie) - and although still advertised as "proper" chips, they were in fact, bog standard frozen chips. What a disappointment. If you haven't been for a while and enjoyed the food before, just bear in mind, its now probably going to be just the same fare as you'd find anywhere else. As J Fritz laments in another recent review, "Why?". I guess it's all down to profit margins. Shame.

Hit on this gem by way of accident and could not have been happier. It's a really nice venue with great decor and a friendly vibe. All the food was delicious - special mention has to go to the chicken pie and the raspberry cheesecake because they were beyond heavenly. I also tried the Cherry Jam cocktail which I warn you about - it tastes like pop so be careful how many you drink!

Seems like a nice family friendly (and dog) pub, clean enough and nice decor. Sunday roast was spot on, very tasty. Only thing was the young waitress who served us with crop and wearing lots of jewellery/watch etc seemed a bit flat, like she couldn’t be bothered, I felt her attitude was a bit poor and her face quite sour, I don’t like that in a restaurant and puts me off coming back so no tip coz of her, ashame coz other staff members were pleasant and more friendly.

A lovely pub with great service and great food. We had visitors from across the water over for a family occasion. At very short notice, only a couple of hours, they managed to fit in a party of 19 in the outside area for food. The staff were exceptional and the food was excellent. We all stayed on for drinks and the atmosphere in the pub was brilliant. Thanks for making it a great night for us all.

Village pub, its name says it, the village bar where local people meet. Good atmosphere, very nice waiters and good food at a more than reasonable price. You can not ask for more.

This restaurant was perfect. Our first restaurant in Scotland. I had veggie curry, which was delicious. Best mini corns I had in my life. My cousin had a cheese burger. He describes it as very tasty with the bacon. They have draught scottish beers, which is very nice since we wanted to try some. The music/ambiance was awesome, the playlist reminded me of one my sister and I could have created, so of course, I enjoyed it a lot. The staff was super friendly and answered our many questions. They seemed interested by our journey through Scotland. Also, the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend that place.

Arrived solo with no booking, place was packed. Staff endeavoured to find me a table to settle in for the night, though it took some shuffling around - but I hugely appreciate the effort, they went above and beyond to accommodate me. Food was great, staff were friendly and attentive, awesome vibe, lovely pub.

I quite like a burger, but this is the worst ever!!! The chips hard and over cooked. I thought a pudding would cheer me up but no the churros were hard cold and the wee jar of toffee sauce was cold 6.95 for two!!!!

Loved the food here for years. After lockdown however it’s a “new menu” Steak Pie in a rich gravy was the best anywhere, top class. Now, there’s much less of it with stew in a watery gravy and chips were also quite thin and crispy on what looked like a smaller plate. Seriously disappointing meal and why when you have a winning formula would you change it? Won’t bother in future.

Nice pub with a good atmosphere, plenty of parking space and some really good food from a fairly simple menu. Pub quiz seems to be on Thursday nights at 8pm, so possibly try to avoid that time if you are looking for a quiet romantic meal for two (or just join in for £1 and come last like we did during our visit last week!)

Excellent food, cocktails and service

Food is nice, however the smaller portion size is way to small. I had the Chicken and leek and bacon pie 🥧 it had 3 very small pieces of chicken 1 piece of bacon and no leek. Very disappointed. 😞 To summarise : Service good. Food was good Portion size poor
