We love coming here as the food is delicious every time. Our last experience was a bit disappointing though. The staff were very polite and courteous but the whole meal was incredibly rushed which spoilt the outing. It wasn’t super late or super busy, so I’m not sure why. We got the starters before we even finished the poppadoms and pickle tray, after the starters we got the main meal pretty much straight away, so there was not time to for that nice break to sit and chat and let the food settle. Towards the end, immediately after the dinner plates were cleared we were asked if we want the bill. There was no mention of deserts/ coffees. We didn’t feel like we had time to enjoy the meal. Like I said, definitely worth going for food but slow down with the service please!

Exceptional Indian restaurant in the heart of Woodseats. Decent sized portions, visually beautiful and with incredible flavours. Add to that, it's not expensive. Topped off with Kingfisher lager and great service.

it was tastless, made my partner throw up and I've had stomach ache all night. chicken was dry as it could be we had bhuna get more spice in Korma

The food was definitely 5* the best in Sheffield. Not been in for a few years as they don’t open on a Tuesday anymore but we spotted it open and went in. The let down was the female waitress who was 1*…. On being seated she just stood at the end of the table while we decided on a drink - more professional to give a few minutes and come back. Same one as soon as finished starter swiped the plate away while still chewing. She didnt bring the main meals but cleared the plates and brought the hot towel… a few minutes later she came over and said “ are you ready for your bill” never asked if wanted any more drinks , desert , tea/coffee. Made us feel like we needed to leave so got it paid and rushed the last of the drinks and left.

Restaurant has a nice atmosphere and staff are friendly. I ordered the Cod Tandoori and it was very rubbery and not great. However my partner had chicken which she did enjoy. Starters, poppadoms and pickle tray were nice too aswell.

Arrived cold and not as tasty as usual. The paneer was rock hard. Usually lovely. Maybe to do with it being Ramadan, I don't know.

It was ok in general and the balti was very good but other mains weren’t as good. Order was also missing the popadoms but the pickle tray was there and couldn’t really be used so a waste of money.

We ate as a group of 4 an a quite busy Saturday evening. We had three different starters between us, all went down well. We had 4 different main courses and left nothing but a bit of naan. The only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars was we thought that the plates and dishes could have done with being warm when the food was placed in them, it's a small point but makes so much of a difference to the meal. This made both the starters and the mains go cool quickly, but otherwise the flavours and spicing were well controlled and appropriate.

We really feel that the standard of food has dropped at Viraaj. We prefer to order from a local restaurant but tonight the chicken tikka dhansac was very watery and tasteless and didn't use chicken tikka, the tikka masala was lacking in any depth of flavour and the korma was bland, more bland than it should be. Even the sauces and chutneys were watery. A shame and will probably not use again as a take out or restaurant now. 😕

Interesting menu. Good selection of dips for the popadoms. All 4 curries were very good. The lamb was really tender. Mushroom rice was the best I had. Pashwari Nan was a bit plain but plenty flavour elsewhere. Overall definitely a 5 star experience.

Great restaurant, good food and great staff

Went yesterday after seeing some good reviews. Was welcomed in and ordered drinks that never arrived but after telling someone they eventually did. Ordered starters, which come after the main meal! Still placed them on our table even tho we'd started eating our mains and even charged us when they were absolutely pointless. Food was ok at best and I definitely won't be going back anytime soon.

Forgot the popadoms but they sorted it but…… best Indian around food is delicious highly recommend

Really good Indian restaurant with excellent food (Tarka Dahl was the best I have ever had), good unhurried service even though very busy, and very reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again.

Went last night and had it booked for a good 6 weeks for 8pm, got there and had to wait an hour and a half for table. Will not be returning

I recently ordered some takeaway from Viraaj and overall I had a good experience. The food was good but not amazing. I had high expectations given the price that the curry’s would be outstanding, but when my order came, I realise that the portions were very generous so it was a trade off. A good curry with great portions for a reasonable price. The lady who took my order and served me upon collection was lovely, and so were the other staff I briefly engaged with. The butter chicken was delicious, but the Bengal Naga was mediocre and the Tandoori Platter I really didn’t enjoy as it was over cooked and extremely dry. I’d visit again.

Food was awful very balnd not nice to eat , when trying to explain about the food not being nice the older man was very rude and didnt listen expensive for what was served will not be back

Went in for a birthday party; food beautiful but service - although friendly - was poor. Refused pudding for children despite being given the pudding menu and 3 members of staff saying we could order pudding; each time it came to request choices the manager said the bar was closed at 8.30pm but every other staff said it was fine and new customers coming in all the time: it was clear they just wanted the table back. Shame as we dine together regularly as a family but won’t be able to return due to lying to the children.

Excellent food and excellent service to go with it. Will be returning again.

Always 5*, return again and again We have even had a private party upstairs in the private dining area, easily fit 18 if us with kids and prams

Very tasty food and friendly service, we have delivery or collection regularly, have done for years. It's cheaper to use their own website, but you dont have the convenience of updates

Thoroughly enjoyed our birthday meal, staff were brilliant, food spot on atmosphere was Fab-u-lous, we will be back, parking a little iffy but plenty of on street parking around the restaurant.

This was my first visit having heard good thing from others. We had reserved a table for 4 at 8 pm on a Saturday night- after getting taxi's there and having some drinks in a nearby bar we wandered across for 8pm. As soon as we walked in it was obvious that there were issues. The bar area was rammed full, all the tables were full and with many complaining . The table nearest the bar told us they had been there an hour and only just were being served their starters and were waiting for drinks. All the tables seemed to be on their starters , none looked like they were almost finished. There were also staff walking through with carrier bags full of takeout. We queued to let them know we had arrived and no-one came to check with anyone in the queue, after about 10 minutes we grabbed a passing waiter . we said we had booked for 8pm and he implied we probably hadn't as they were already full, we had a confirmation email but we were told we weren't on the list and even if we were we could expect a long wait. There was no apology and to be fair the staff just looked very stressed and said they were massively over booked and it wasn't usually like this. I stepped outside and called another restaurant to see if they could fit us in and promptly left after telling them we were doing so.Such a shame as we would not visit again as it is some distance and not worth the risk.

This was the first time I’ve ordered from Viraaj, and the food was very good in fact the best I’ve had in months. The Viraaj poppadoms were fresh and crispy, which isn’t that common with some other restaurants we’ve ordered from. The food was well presented, tasty and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

The best Indian restaurant in Woodseats, possibly Sheffield. Fantastic food and great service. They also do a collection service and I've been told also do take away, but I'm not 100% on that. Very highly recommended.

Mixed reviews about virajj the food here is wonderful every time it really is but the service of late has declined alot and that's ashame

Amazing place must be one of the best curry places in Sheffield

Pre- ordered two hours in advance and despite the restaurant accepting the order, it was 30 minutes late. One of the curries had damaged packaging and had spilt in the bag. Food was ok but for £54 for two people, with the delay and spilt food, was totally not worth it!

Went to this restaurant after recommendation from a family member. I was not disappointed, the food was faultless. It was the best Indian food I have had in Sheffield and would go as far as saying the best I have had anywhere. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant for food or service.

Best curry in the north!? It's not even the best curry on its street. I've been very disappointed with the quality of the food on both occasions I've ordered from here.

An award winning restaurant, and you can see why. I'm not a curry kind of man, but I've got to admit the food here is amazing. They understood I am a baby when it comes to spicy food and sorted me out a lovely Korma, add a little Indian cheese, and you've got curry perfection. I've been in a few times, and nothing is too much trouble for the team there. Can't rate the place enough.

It was very busy, which usually means popular, my fish was very oily, could have just been my choice, but I didn't like it very much for that reason. The onion bhaji were very average, and on the greasy side. My friends all enjoyed their meals, but agreed food was nice, not fabulous

Although food arrived piping hot it wasn’t the best. Keema nan meat very very grisly, prawns had a lot of shell on them and the biryani rice was dry and bland. Have ordered from Viraaj for many years but it will be a long time before we order again.

Every visit has been lovely, Hussan always makes the place full of life.

First ever visit. Sat close to a party of about 7, at 6pm on a Sunday night. This group were raucous and drunk and spoiled it for everyone else, but the staff didnt intervene. Although premises about 70% empty, intrusive waitress kept trying to take our plates away whilst we were still 'grazing'. Not a comfortable experience realy.

First time here, definitely not the last. Great staff, gorgeous food, very welcoming for a larger party. We did book in advance but there were plenty of walk ins. Lovely evening with family in a little gem of a restaurant.

Firstly the staff are so welcoming. We were served by a lovely young lady, she was so attentive, polite and very helpful. The food was very nice and tasty, all fresh, pipping hot and flavorsome.

Great service. Great food. I had a lamb tandoori nihari and found it delicious with the lamb falling off the bone. Although it is down on the menu as hot I didn’t think so but I did ask about heat so they might have lowered the heat. So tasty I didn’t care. Next time I can ask for more heat. The Viraaj naan I had was soft and fluffy and tasty. I think they must all be good ingredients and great cooking! Keep it up!

TLDR: Really tasty food, extensive menu, friendly staff with great ambience and good value for money but unhygienic practice noted, so cannot rate it 5/5. We went here for a birthday meal as Viraaj had recently been named as one of the nation's finest and managed to book a table for 8 on the day. As it's on a high street there is no dedicated parking, but you can park by the roadside. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and well-dressed, helpful staff. There was one chap, likely the manager who was especially cheerful, which is always lovely to see. Alcohol is served in house. The menu is extensive and the food was really tasty and very reasonably priced. It's easy to see why this place is so highly treasured by those in the know. A lot of dishes are rated as "hot", but I didn't think the "medium" dish was too spicy at all. Online, Viraaj has a food hygiene rating of 4 and I'm sure the food is absolutely fine, but we sent two glasses back with lipstick on and I saw the waiter clean a plate with his finger before handing it to someone at the table - at least use a cloth, guys!

Shockingly bad service. We booked in advance and there weren't enough seats. Seavice was terrible. Breads never arrived even though we booked up front. Didn't bring glasses for drinks. Worst of all the food was meh. Really meh. I'd never come back

The lamb dish I ordered was like eating warm cat food.
