Been a few times and never been disappointed, absolutely gorgeous food and atmosphere

Terrible customer service. Was wanting to enquire about booking for a private function, messaged their facebook page several times only to get no reply, tried ringing & ringing & when someone finally did answer I was told someone would ring me back tomorrow.. I am still waiting! How can a business operate like this & be a success? I used to do admin for a very very busy very popular Middlesbrough restaurant & we always responded to customers as quickly as possible.. look after the customer & they will look after you otherwise they will just go elsewhere.

UPDATE! We were eventually asked to come in for a complimentary meal now the new chef was up to speed. I am happy to say that things have significantly improved! I would now recommend. Worst food We have ever had. We took the mother-in-law for her 70th birthday at the end of last year. The place was freezing cold and the ceiling leaking. The food was shocking for the price we paid. We complained and were told that the head chef had left and that we would be invited back once things were “sorted”. We never received a call, not that we would go back.

Absolutely fantastic x obviously expensive because the food was great and the cocktails were even better if this was in London they would make a fortune. Great food , service on time and the music was superb x Would recommend the bloody Mary x

The staff went above and beyond for my niece's 16th birthday meal. Erica and Charlie were making sure we got everything we needed and drinks topped up. Lovely food and Kim the pianist was amazing. 100% recommend and we will be back!! Thank you Vine

With totally new kitchen staff and a fabulous new chef Vine is now producing top quality food, having visited on both a Saturday evening and Sunday lunch we have experienced some really great food. The chef is very enthusiastic and has great passion for food and takes his time to come and speak to you and explains how he cooks his dishes and his extraordinary Yorkshire puddings. If you have been before and not enjoyed your experience I recommend to try this place again it will not disappoint.

Simply love this restaurant, always have the lobster here that’s cooked to perfection, they make the best bloody Mary’s and the owners are so friendly and attentive. One of my favourite restaurants in Middlesbrough and we lucky to have it just on our doorstep as we only live on the avenue so it’s a short little walk which is handy after a few of those bloody Mary’s. Thank you for the great experience time and again.

One of the worst dining experiences we’ve had. No staff and the menu on the website is completely different to what is at the restaurant. We looked forward to the oysters and they didn’t sell them. Looked forward to the seafood options and there was only salmon and potatoes available. Literally a salmon fillet and 3 baby potatoes cut in half. Asked for a vegetable side and it was so raw I couldn’t get a fork into them. The steaks were clearly an off cut that needed a saw to get through. The Thai mussels dish apparently came with salad, not entirely sure how that works. I usually finish a review with a positive but unfortunately there weren’t any. If you’ve never been to a restaurant before then maybe this is the place for you. Otherwise, if you like nice food, drink and service then head somewhere else.

Another perfect Sunday dinner at The Vine , always produces . Had a duo of pork and beef and my wife had the chicken , all Meats cooked to perfection and veg and Yorkshire also .

Hands down the WORST dining experience I’ve had for a long time. We visited the vine for a family meal several of us travelling from around the country to enjoy some good food, service and drinks. What we received was quite the opposite. Horrendous service, even worse food and left feeling as though what we had been promised on the website was completely false adverting. The menu is NOT the same as the website, no oysters, pasta dishes or fish options aside from some dry salmon with a handful of potatoes. The steaks were tough and half of our food was incorrect or missing items. The staff looked like they would rather be anywhere else and the service reflected that. We attempted to finish of the evening with a cocktail, advised there was no menu just to pick something we never received these drinks despite the restaurant and bar being only half full. Nothing we expected from the website was available and was on offer was a laughable menu. Don’t waste your money.

We booked a table online for 2:30 on Sunday 1st Jan. Received an email saying the booking was confirmed. We turned up and the restaurant was closed.

The staff and owner went above and beyond for us to make sure we had an amazing night. Nothing was a problem and the absolute amazing quaint venue gave the wow factor for all our guests. The food/buffet was outstanding. Booking another party here very soon for my own birthday.

Visited on Sunday for dinner with the family and was pleasantly surprised . Beautiful food amazingly cooked to perfection so tasty . Presentation was amazing . Staff in there were lovely and very attentive would defiantly visit again . Amazing service

We went here for dinner and had an amazing time. The atmosphere is fantastic and absolutely love the decor. We ordered the steak and lobster sharing platter which was delicious.

What a perfect night! We were greeted by who I think was the manager (very friendly man) and shown to our table where we were told there was a special live pianist show. Service was fast & friendly which was so comforting for a romantic meal at out candlelit table. On cue, the pianist Kim Tsang started playing as we were getting our starters, the classical music paired with the incredible food was one to remember. We had a pea soup and a mushroom starter, both faultless. Soon after we had our mains of risotto and a seafood linguine, again very fresh tasting & flavoursome. After our food had finished, the manager then made room for us down near the bar to sit with wine & watch the pianist to finish off our night. All round it was perfect as it was my first time taking my girlfriend (who lives in Birmingham ) out for a meal round Middlesbrough. She absolutely loved it and couldn’t believe the value for money too. We will definitely be returning as it’s round the corner on our doorstep. Thanks again Vine, and a warm thanks to Kim on the piano for bringing the evening together with her music!

Visited tonight as a table of 6 for my friends birthday after they had been before and said great things. Ordered 2 fillet steak share boards and one single fillet steak. Was told they didn’t have enough fillets so could only do the share boards not the single which is fine no problem. When the share boards came they were definitely not fillet steaks they were thin and fatty only 1 out of the 4 steaks were semi decent. When spoke to the staff about this we didn’t receive a sorry or nothing they just said straight away they have had a bad batch from the supplier and will take money off the bill so they knew these steaks were below average before even sending them out. £75 per board and we had very skinny very fatty steak and were missing a portion of chips and not even an apology! Management and staff were rude and just said well we have taken the food off the bill what can we do. After all that they put a £20 service charge on the bill. Massive shame because it’s a lovely place but food and service needs to improve for this place to be semi decent.

We arrived early for a Thursday evening pre-booked pre-theater meal. The place is really nice with an interesting 'vintage-industrial' themed decor and the staff were very friendly and comfortably down-to-earth. The advertised pre-theatre menu did not yet exist and several things on the main menu were not available. The food was disappointingly poor. My partner's 'salt and pepper chicken' starter was overcooked and dry and not even hot! The chicken parmigiano was a strange concoction of tasteless cold dry chicken with a hard greasy coating with an unpleasant congealed 'sauce'. The restaurant was almost empty but service took a little under two hours for a 2 course meal which for us was OK as we had time time fill but I imagine it could be a problem on a busy night. They did give us a discount and prices are OK. Despite the poor food we enjoyed it (I have definitely been to worse places) and I suppose it might have been the chef's night off. I would give it another try. Parking nearby was a pain. They are trying hard and it's a lovely place. If only they could improve the food a bit.

We went on a lovely warm evening and sat outside for a few drinks after our meal which topped off the night. I can't stop thinking about the food and we will be back very soon.

Firstly the site needs updating. There is no al a carte menu now. If we had known this we would not of booked. Booking could only be done online as phone was never answered. If you like a nice fillet steak or lobster, then go. If not then the rest of the menu is just normal pub grub. Had creamy mushrooms for starters, very nice but also very salty. Wife had fillet steak which she said was very nice, I chose chicken parmesan. Very nice but again chips over salted. Service charge added to your bill so check if you don’t like this addition. We don’t normally like it but left it as the staff very good and attentive. Would we go again, yes as a casual meal, as although some of the food was salty it was still very nice

Looking at the reviews I was a bit apprehensive. I asked the waiter why the bad reviews and all boils down to bitter competition trying to put this lovely place down, really no need, they need to concentrate on there own business instead of trying to make others fail :( Wow Scallop starter was amazing just wanted the taste to last forever and then comes a Steak and Lobster (Picked out from the Lobster tank) platter sharer with a free bottle of wine (Couples night) best food I have tasted locally in a long time. I will definitely be returning and recommending to my family and friends. Well done to all the staff/management for making this place what it is.

I actually read a lot of reviews before myself and my girlfriend decided to go here. The food was fantastic, the service from the Barman and Server was superb, but it felt like they were short of a Restaurant Manager !

I searched Google to find a nice spot for an interesting dinner and unfortunately I was quite disappointed. I think the decor is great, but the music was very loud! Prices very high, food aspire to great quality but its not thought through and some ideas just don't go together. My dish had fish on a very oily bed of calamari and pickled mushrooms but no carbs - bread/potatoes/rice to complete the dish. It was very heavy and simply lacked something that would add ti the whole taste. Wait was long, Iver an hour for the food. Staff informed us that they had not enough cooks. I wouldn't go back.

What a most unusual and unique restaurant which we discovered from researching on the internet was originally an abattoir! We enjoyed a very nice lunch. My partner loved his burger. The service was a little slow but our waitress was lovely. The restaurant is well worth a visit , not just for the food, but also for the decor and ambience.

My daughter was treating me and my mum for Mother’s Day lunch She made a booking 4 weeks in advance for 2.30pm We arrived at 2.25pm and was asked to have a drink as our table wasn’t ready At 2.55 we finally were showed to our table subsequently our order was taken Our starter arrived at 3.20pm we then sat and sat watching lunches being served finally we asked when would ours arrive this was 3.50pm We were told hopefully in the next 10 -15 minutes! We decided this was unacceptable and informed the staff we we’re leaving They informed us they had extra walk ins and staff sickness which had led to the delay but for us this wasn’t relevant to our special day The only plus staff were pleasant and polite as for the food who knows it may still be cooking! If they had told us we would have been waiting for our lunch for 1 1/2 hours when we arrived only wish we had left sooner.

Very poor service party of 20 spent over 550 in total with drinks 2 meals missing hardly an apology more tried to blame us. Offered a meal to take home as a piece keeper but declinded table for 20 had 16 sets of cutlery had to take 4 from a spare table we brought a cake they didnt offer forks to eat it with overall poor place not served a meal about 6=7 time ive been never again over priced and lack of customer care in my opion a shame as a lovely setting.. if the right person was at the helm this place could be spot on. But until that time i will never return. Management please raed and take on board 🙏 andy

Great place. Came here with my wife on a Friday evening. Lovely atmosphere. Everyone who served us was friendly and knowledgeable. Drinks were nice, but the food is another level. Mussels starter with Nduja sauce was the best I've had. Fillet steak was beautiful, seasoned and charred to perfection. Lime tart was great. A shout out to all our servers again though, they really made the evening, and we'll be visiting again very soon.

Gorgeous evening last night at Vine. First time visit but will definitely be back. Lobster and steak sharing platter was delicious. Steak cooked exactly as requested and was beautiful. Service was impeccable.

I took my family here for a Sunday roast , it was absolutely superb, the wait staff were awesome, nothing was too much trouble and roast lunch was one of the best I’ve ever had, can’t wait to try the rest of the menu

Very pleasant staff and helpful waitresses only young but only a few things what they could improve. 1 bigger tables as we had a party of 7 on a table for 6 not enough room personal. 2nd just a bit too long to bring drinks to the table when we placed drink orders but overall beautiful share platers food cooked perfectly to everyone would definitely go again and staff overall were 9out 10 score. Absolutely Freezing inside, we had to keep our coats on whilst eating our meals / shouldn’t of been open if not prepared to heat the place up …choice of 3 meals for lunch as they had no food in stock ..2 pasta dishes or burger...

Absolutely love this place! Beautiful restaurant, amazing staff who were very accommodating (our waitress was so wonderful) and the food was phenomenal. Garlic mushrooms, fish & chips, sirloin steak and sticky toffee sundae. All amazing! Can't wait to go back!

This was our 3rd visit and we were frankly underwhelmed, as we were on our previous visits. We keep wanting to give this place a chance as it is a convenient location for us, it's a beautiful venue, and we like to support local businesses, but we definitely won't be going back again. We were ignored on arrival for about 5 min, there were 4 staff behind the bar directly opposite us, none of them even looked at us to acknowledge us. Eventually we were greeted and taken to our table, but it wasn't a great start. However, the staff we did interact with from that point were friendly and helpful. What really annoyed me was when I asked for veg instead of salad with my steak, I was informed that there would be a charge for the swap. I always ask for veg everywhere I go, and never have I been charged for it anywhere else, from high-end restaurants to high street chains. I was less than impressed but the alternative was to have no side with my steak, so I had to go with it. In the end the veg didn't appear on the bill but it wasn't clear whether it was an oversight, or someone had suddenly decided to provide some customer service. The food itself was nice, it took a little while to arrive but we all enjoyed our mains, no issues there. Things went downhill again when we decided to order dessert. We were told there were only two options left, which was disappointing (it was a Saturday night, the restaurant wasn't busy, and it wasn't particularly late either). Most of us didn't fancy either option, but one person ordered a dessert only to be told that actually they had ran out of that as well. So we paid the bill and went home and had to settle for a shop bought dessert as we were still hungry. The whole experience wasn't exactly great. We got a decent main course, which you would expect for the price (over £100 for 3 adults and 1 child), inconsistent service and no dessert. There are plenty of other restaurants in Middlesbrough that serve good food and make you feel a lot more welcome, so regrettably we won't be going to Vine again.

We were looking forward to celebrating our friends birthday with great food and wine unfortunately this wasn't the case last night at Vine. We were seated to be told there was no mussels, steak and only one oyster left?? The waitress got the wine order wrong and then we were told we would have to wait till the wine had been chilled. Proir to our food arriving the table behind where I was seated were inconsiderate to other diners as the children in the party were up and down running around the restaurant and the back of my chair was constantly being bumped into. To my dismay when the my duck arrived it was like rubber and although the veg was burnt the whole dish was cold. My friend had the pea risotto which she was disappointed with as she said it tasted like mushy peas!! But my other friend said her parmo was nice!! The waitress who checked regarding the food insisted I have the duck replaced and went to the kitchen. On her return she told me it should never have been sent out and I totally agreed. It looked and tasted disgusting. To be fair the waitress didn't really listen as I told her I didn't really want another duck as my friends had finished their food. She did bring me a bowl of chips while the duck was being cooked but again these weren't asked for and I didn't really want them. When the duck arrived it was a great improvement on the first time but the kids running around and my chair getting bashed it was too little too late. We took our drinks and sat in the bar area. To our dismay three very drunk people were having an altercation. We asked for the bill which had two bottles of wine on it and the dreaded duck. We had to ask for the correct bill. I was still charged for the duck and its fair to say we shall not be returning.

8 of us ate here last night. Wrong steaks were delivered to table . Wife's pasta was cold and 2 burghers were like rock cakes and to top it all a drink was spilt by a waiter over one of the ladies. Won't be back.

We visited for the lobster and steak night and were not disappointed. Steak was cooked to perfection as was the lobster. Will definitely be going back as food was excellent, staff were very friendly and the restaurant decor was amazing! Thank you so much. Its lovely to see a local restaurant of this calibre.

Well what can I say first and last time. The food order was wrong and cold. chips burnt, burgers burnt, steak over cooked and wrong steak entirely, lobster dry. Tagliatelle cold. You would not serve it to dogs nevermind humans. They offered us 10% off and a free drink fine only to have a drink poured over me with no apology will not recommend this place to anyone and the bathroom was disgusting.

Still sat here trying to work out why we came here to start with wrong stakes brought out and cold then the wife gets a double gin and lemonade poured down her back and the so called manager says all I can do is apologise not not good enough when you are trying to celebrate your sons and friends birthday. We will not be back

Food was good. But front of house service was abysmal. Had to stand and wait for 10 minutes before a member of had the grace to attend to our party, reception was unmanned. Table service was good though we were given four mismatched wine glasses (one actually a beer glass). Table staff were friendly and helpful. After leaving one of the reception staff shouted after us "have you paid the bill?" This poor service doesn't deserve patronage.

We organised a last minute wedding for 36 people at this restaurant. The staff went above and beyond to make sure my partner and I and our guests had such an amazing day. The food was impeccable, cocktails were fantastic and we couldn't have asked for better service. All of the staff were amazing. All of our guests commented on the service they received and would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Thank you again for a wonderful day.

Been here a couple of times for food and drinks respectively, the staff from the owner and front of house to even the chef's are beyond amazing. I had a carbonara and it was super yummy. They even added a complimentary dessert slate for my friend's birthday. Definitely coming up again to taste their full menu.

Came here for (socially distanced) wedding celebration, another venue had let us down and the owner took us last minute and made us super welcome. The head chef dressed the tables for us, put on some amazing finger food and the brilliant staff looked after us all night. Not only is it a wonderful quirky location, there was a live performance by saxophone, a wide range of quality drinks and the menu and food served looked divine. It's a lovely place with lovely people, a real gem. Don't miss it!

After previously being a chef and eating out quite regularly, I am usually reluctant to give my full praise to a restaurant, as there is often something to pick up on.Vine really exceed all my expectations! Scotch egg starter, seafood linguine and a triple chocolate brownie for dessert. Everything was prepared to perfection and served up promptly in beautiful surroundings, full of great character. Visited last night and had a great night with very tasty food/drink and great attentive service!Covid guidelines were followed perfectly. Making our first date night since lockdown, very memorable.All dishes from starter to dessert were amazingly presented and executed. Will be back to sample rest of the offerings!

We often eat here as this is local to us however I feel this was the best meal we have had for a long time. There is a new chef in Vine and his meals were fantastic, we ordered the mackerel escabeche with Spanish marinated vegetables which was outstanding to start this was on the specials menu followed by the pan fried duck breast with baby leeks in a blackberry jus and the my partner ordered the lamb rump also on the specials menu with a side order of chips with a cheesy salt topping. The food was well presented, cooked perfectly and extremely tasty, the new chef had worked wonders on this new menu. The service by Adel again was great if she didn’t know the answer to any of my queries she went to the kitchen to ask, she always takes time with the customers and clearly loves her job. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Such a great experience, staff were lovely, food was amazing. Only thing that let it down was I had the pastry tart and it was so hard to break with spoon, like brick. Drinks were awesome too and you didn't have to wait too long for anything. Great atmosphere, made you feel very welcome. Booked a last minute reservation after close friends had recently been and spoke highly of food and service.Upon entering we were met and shown to our table with no hesitation- great start.Looked through the menu, ordered drinks straight away.To start we ordered goats cheese and the chicken. Very disappointed with the chicken, description stated chilli there was no chilli to be seen just so much spring onion and there was so much grease. Goats cheese was a hit but we did have to order more balsamic.For the main we ordered the sharing steak, with cheese chips and chilli broccoli. Steak was cooked perfectly and to our liking, the downside the cheese chips were normal chips with a small sprinkle of cheese, very basic. Broccoli lacked chilli and when asked for more ... a small dish of spring onion was brought out, very poor effort from the chef.The one thing that really let this place down was the service, we had the pleasure of sitting next to the kitchen which we love so could see and hear everything. We could see our food sat under the heat plate for a few minutes while one waitress took the chefs drinks to refill ... she was clearly too interested in the kitchen staff. There was two other waitresses and the weight was picked up by the three ladies so well done! Overall very disappointed in both food and service.

First time here had such an amazing meal from start to finish decor so rustic and romantic, food cooked to perfection, very reasonable for quality and service especially Anthony and Adele lovely people very attentive and chatty. Nice food with superb staff. Only marked down one as limited menu at the moment it would appear and could do with more choice. (We will revisit in more 'normal times' and review again. Food was good quality and well presented and tastes great. Staff were all superb and I cannot fault the service. We were a large table and accommodated at very short notice after being let down elsewhere.

A great steak and a half decent parmesan to be had here... The service was patchy - some fantastic, some rude which was unusual, and avoid the sticky toffee pudding

Went for lunch with my partner - I ordered the bruschetta and the fish finger sandwich, my partner had the scotch egg and fish and chips.The bruschetta was ok but I've had better. The ciabatta wasn't toasted enough so went soggy and wasn't particularly tasty. However the scotch egg was top notch - my partner said it was one of the best he has ever had.The main meals were delicious - the batter on the fish fingers and the fish was crispy, bubbly and perfect.However, my sandwich was meant to come with tartar sauce and didn't, and the fish was meant to come with peas and didn't.The service was below par - there was clearly not enough waiting staff. We queued at the door to be seated even though there was a guy behind the bar doing nothing and a woman flitting round taking photos. We were eventually seated by one woman who was trying to wait on the entire restaurant on her own.The tables in the main dining area offer a view into the kitchen but that meant we could witness the plates of food lined up sitting under the hot lamps for excessive periods of time whilst the chefs repeatedly dinged for non-existent service.

Garlic Yorkshire puddings and mash was odd, dont think I'll have it again

Me and my partner visited last night and we weren't disappointed. From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive and friendly especially the gentleman waiting our table. We chose the crab starter and king prawns which were both delicious and the pork and chicken dish for mains. Flavours were excellent and we shared bits of each others dishes and as we were a bit jealous of what we'd each chosen. I would highly recommend Vine and can't wait till our next visit
