Village Green Fish Bar in Rugby

Been on the hunt for decent chips for ages. Most seem rubbery and a bit weird tasting if they have been sitting for a bit. We heard good things being said about this place and gave it a try. Chips cooked to order, piping hot and tasty. Fish looked good so will be having some next time. Really happy we found you and worth the drive from Dunchurch. Thank-you for making the effort to serve great food.

I now love my local chippy, it's an honest clean place in my own friendly village you can usually always park somewhere free, as a fan of battered fish I must admit fish is what I usually buy I have had a few Donner kebabs too and they have always been great, I know fish and chips aren't a cheap meal anymore but that's why I will travel for a good fish or at least used to have to, now under this management it's great right at home. And if you think fish should be cheaper just remember those guys rolling around on the sea I'm sure you'll feel different

This is honestly the worst fish and chip shop food i've ever tasted. The chips were so dry that it was like chewing cardboard. They were a really funny colour and super dry. I went at peak time on a Friday evening (7pm) so you would expect it to be fresh. Clearly, they are cutting corners with the amount of oil used, it's old oil or the chips had been there for a very, very, very long time. Even my two year old toddler refused to eat them - she's never refused a chip before. There's so many nice fish and chip shops around. This is not one of them. Don't waste your money. After wasting my money, I then had to cook myself another meal after it - which defeats the object of getting a takeaway. I wouldn't have eaten that food if it was given to me for free. Please, if you are reading this, AVOID!

Even though the best chips locally. What's happened to the portion sizes. 🤔. They've considerably shrank compared to many previous visits. Still hungry!!!!

Been going here for years being are local sadly the last few times our order has been wrong and food not what it once was. Whether it’s the new owners or the haphazard staff it’s not on and honestly getting fed up with it now.

I have just moved to the area and tried other fish and chip shops, I was impressed with this one, fresh fish fried to order, great portions and very good quality, excellent experience

Me and my friend went for the large mixed meat wrap. Raw-dogged it in the car outside the shop. Monumental effort from the magician behind the meat station. Couldn’t recommend more.

Had the pleasure of popping in here for a late night takeaway , absolutely spot on with the food , best one in the area I've been to so far, portions are huge , value for money and great service , definitely on my top ten list, if working in the area again.

Service is slow 8 mins I waited for a piece of halloumi and chips. Halloumi was sitting on side for atleast 2 mins but did other no 3 before mine. And the wedge of halloumi @ 2.95 is a joke. Images below.

Can’t fault the food but 55 minute wait for your order is ridiculous. If you want fast food go elsewhere.

Really nice and tasty food - I don’t mind waiting a while as the food is tasty and fresh. They do let me know how long the wait will be before taking my order - which I appreciate after a long day at work! All staff are amazing - they took over from previous owners and have done a amazing job, very friendly nice staff - new manager goldy is very nice and chatty. All staff are nice. Took a while for them to build up with their speed but it is expected as they have newly took over from previous owner. The staff now are polite and bubbly. I love the red chicken - not dry and old. This chicken is fresh and cooked daily I can tell. Chips are golden crispy. I ask for extra sauce and they provide it - i also like their own sauce they have created. Good luck and I hope you go far! P.s Don’t change your fish. 😊

1st time having food from here since being taken over and it was like organised chaos to be honest. Most of the staff seemed to be panicking apart from the 2 young girls. Ordered nuggets and chips for my boy and mini fish and chips for myself. The nuggets were only warm and not freshly cooked by the looks of them and the mini fish was tasteless and the batter was soft, probably because fish was on the bottom of the tray and chips on top!! Thank god for the curry sauce to give it some flavour. Needs a lot of improvement to get to the standards of the previous owners. Disappointing.

Been here twice what a great place for great food. And the portions were so big would feed 2 people. Would definitely recommend here for your food.

Ordered a mixed kebab as it was chicken tikka pieces and not only tasted amazing but the car they put into making it as I watched was like nothing I’ve seen a takeaway place do before. Shame I live so far away otherwise would definitely be a regular here!

Had a lovely chippy tea tonight from VGFB for the first time in years and it was delicious! Our chips were still so hot when I got them home I had to use a spatula to put them onto a plate (and that was even after making a quick stop off to drop some off for a relative!) My pitta was soft and fluffy, fish cooked beautifully and not greasy! Service was quick and smiley. It's been a long time since I've been in there, but I was very impressed with how clean it is now! We will definitely return!

What a lovely fish and chip s shop. Very polite and kind staff, I had to wait a few minutes for my order and after paying decided I would like curry sauce. I was given it free as they were near to closing. If I am in the area again I will certainly call in again.

Absolutely top-notch food…unbeatable chips, scallops, and doner cooked to perfection! 10/10 on the doner meat naan with salad. Can’t beat it…seriously!!! Go for the “hot” sauce if you can handle it coz it just adds that extra kick 😀 Not to mention the portion sizes…oh my word…wowsers!!!

Staying in the area for a few days from Plymouth. After reading a few good reviews, we decided this was the chippy for us. Gorgeous food and portion sizes were huge. Highly recommend. .

Amazing! This is what every Fish and Chip shop should be like. Customer service second to none. Simply superb. Super polite, friendly and helpful staff. Food is excellent. I tried a Masala Chicken wing yesterday and the flavours were amazing. We also tried the homemade onion rings. I don't normally like onion rings but these were brilliant. Not greasy at all, but so flavoursome. Highly recommended. Can't praise this place enough. Will definitely be back.

First time at the fish bar and it won't be our last time and great service too

Been going over the course of 6-7 years and not once has the food dropped in quality or made me wait too long. Just as covid kicked off they were quick to set up screens to allow people to still order in person and pay without needing any contact which came a lot faster than most fast food chains at that time, since then they've taken those down and had a stab at using an alert system using a series of small LED buzzers to give customers that would go off when your order was ready, I'm not sure when they stopped using those but it's not a loss in my eyes, having a quick conversation with the staff is always nice and preferred when it's less busy and if you've been as often as me they'll know your order before you've even said it. Or in my most recent case remember your face from months since your last visit and ask what you've been up too. With me being a uni student and busy for months at a time it's nice to know the regulars and locals are not easily forgotten. I cant rate them high enough for how professional the staff are, keeping in mind the influx of customers but still making sure everything with your order is right before you pay is a service many resterraunts woefully lack.

Dal and his team have got the chippy back to its original best. The chips are exactly as they should be, but the fish is very very good, perfect batter too. No need to drive to Brinklow, Binley or Willenhall anymore, the quality here is superior.

We are a first time user of the Village green fish take away and we were impressed with the gluten free batter fish and the haloumi. We ordered online, the fish arrived, we were searching for the rest of the order and no sausages, i contacted the take away and they said they will cook them when the other orders have been processed, our order should of taken priority as our order hasn't been completed yet. We waited an hour and 2 more chase up calls eventually the sausages arrived, I did say as a gesture of goodwill could they send a portion of chips as I must of not pressed the button hard enough on the order screen. No chips. So I went to the mega chippy to buy some. All in all the food was good we had and we will return, this time to collect.

Back to how it used to be!! It is so much nicer being open when you walk in (and actually being open most days!). The food tonight was beautiful. Lovely chips and delicious fish - and the mushy peas!!!!!!! Will be back more often!

Sorry but not good portion.size tonight our large Haddock was small and thin as a piece of Plaice and chips were luke warm and not up to usual standard but mushy peas were great..

I love this chippy when visiting my parents. They do the best chicken meat and chips. The chicken meat is red like Tandoori, the chips are good, well cooked not too many itty bits. My parents rate his fish, they never have had a bad fish. When they have ran out of fish and near closing time he s happy to cook a piece of fish fresh. The meal deals are good too.

Wolston chippy is back! I used to travel up to the mega chippy on a Saturday. No more! Very nice food, very nice people, massive portions. They even give my dog a free sausage!

Completely inedible chips last night, we ended up throwing them away! Very hard & dry. It’s a lottery here whether they’re ok. One week not so bad, next week terrible!

Just picked up my veggie burger and chips.. Both veggie burger and chips were as good as you could get. Owner was friendly and had a nice conversation. Nice family run business.

I live in the village and remember when the chippy used to be really nice. Just got some chips and a sausage, I can’t even believe they actually served me it. The chips were all dry, brown and soft. The sausage was so dry and hard. Wish I took a picture of it but I just threw the whole meal away. Completely disgusting and disgraceful!

Really poor, especially during quiet times.

Worst fish I’ve ever had. Eaten here five times now, each time I keep hoping the fish will be better. Each time the batter is damp, almost wet, not crispy at all, just sticks to the paper and the fish has no flavour, just watery. Chips are good, but doesn’t make up for terrible fish. I won’t eat here again. Waste of money.

Living here 7 years & thought my old chippy in School Lane (Kenilworth) could not be beaten but it can! Always ask for fresh Haddock n chips and you will not be disappointed. Love it even when I should be trying for a bikini body 🤔

Limited chip shop menu for takeaway only. Clean kitchens but the fries can be soggy. Parking is limited and only cash accepted which can be inconvenient in a village with only one ATM locked inside a nearby Co-op.
